Well here is a funny thing that happened to me I got case for it and then after a while I got the problem you had but it's an easy fix .. Take off the back cover get something like a pair of tweezers and grab the button pull it up click on it few times and voila FIXED.
I bought the gel type Verizon case with the phone so it's been in that since day 1 and I have such a problem with my power button I actually use a widget on my home screen so I don't have to push it to put the phone to sleep. I'm past my 14 days and I don't want a refurb, I think my phone has a problem but as long as it works, it works. so. I compared to my inc1 with the same gel type case and it's amazing how much harder the inc2 is. oh well love the phone.

Is it that shiny gel type case? That's the only one I could find. I notice in the case the button is hard to push. But this is hardware version 0001 lol we all know how that goes.

that case has a technical bulletin out on it for the issues with the power button, bring it to your store asking for a refund/exchange.

I'm going to try and get a refund for that gel case... I just picked up a to part incipio case at the Verizon store and I love it!, I can actually use the power button again. Hopefully they refund that gel case without a reciept. That was the worst $20 I ever spent.

Anyone know of an app that turns your screen off without pressing the power button? I use Screen Off and Lock on my Evo but it isn't supported yet on the N7.
Try GoSwitch.

Get a smart case
Like ragnarokx said, get a smart case to turn the screen on and off automatically. We're just stuck waiting for the manufacturer to get their act together and fill store shelves with them.
Thanks for the suggestions. Yea, I'm definitely getting a smart case as soon as there's something to my liking. I wish the official N7 case had stand functionality.
try screen off and lock in google play....

Take a stand for what its worth. They usually add bulk.
My wife has an Ipad2 for roughly a year now and has had the smart cover all along. She only uses it to fold it up as more of a handle, and she never, repeat, never uses it as a stand.

If you're on a train, or an airplane and you're watching a movie, I'd agree.
I have a home theater at home for that.
I use a stand every night when I'm using the Kindle app. Very handy sitting for long stretches of book reading

You could try *not* mashing the button like an American Gladiator?
I've never had trouble with a power button failing. I treat it like an electronic device and it lasts far beyond the time I use it for. There's no need to find other means of using a device that comes with its own.
I know there's the s-pen and the hardware buttons, however, I remember on the 10.1 note original there was a screen capture icon on the dock. Is there a way to get this feature back?.

Is there another way, its a bit hit and miss though more miss really to be practical.
Hold the power button down while also holding the raised home button. It will take a screen shot for you.
Its actually easier than you think! You have to use your whole Handheld edge resting on the screen.
When you get it, it is easier and faster than any other method.

Just becaues of the palm screenshot thing? there are many ways to take screenshots you know. There are even apps for that and the S-Pen or power+home button methods work just fine.

I'm just lazy but found out holding the button on the s-pen on the screen does the same thing.
BTW did the 2014 note come with different nibs as well, as mine didn't?.
Thanks guys

As for me, I sincerely hope the buttons are capacitive. I've never been a fan of on screen buttons for various reasons, not to mention. If they are on screen buttons, what the heck is the big black strip at the bottom for? It holds the HTC Logo, sure, but if that's the only reason, then make more use of it. Put some freaking buttons there. Lol. I absolutely love my HTC One 2013, and I'm more than likely getting the 2014 model (which i really hope is called the One Up as some rumors suggest), but the on-screen buttons kill me.

Confirmed by who? Don't a lot of phones use on screen simply for development models, then add the capacitive in the final models?

I've read a lot of the leaks, and none have really CONFIRMED on screen. Most do show it though. My big question is why the big black useless bar. It just looks bad if there's no use for it.

On screen isn't a game breaker for me. Just a nitpick. The all metal body and front facing speaker (as well as the Sense UI,which IMO isthe best stock UI) are enough to warrant me wanting one. Plus I have to buy a phone so I can give my wife my old M7
M8 dump has on screen buttons, if that's not enough confirmation :00

On screen nav keys are very uncomfortable ...you will be confused about where to click...and in android (except Nexus) nav key bar resizes the layout everytime when appearing...this thing is most annoying!!!

meh, on screen keys will be quite nice, and im positive they'll be customize-able once rooted and xposed added in, just look at aosp, can put almost whatever button you want down there.
I actually find on-screen buttons more comfortable. Capacitive buttons on a large device dramatically increases the range of thumb motion required to efficiently operate it one handed. I can't say how many times I've tried to elegantly enable on-screen buttons on my GS3, but each time I was successful it was much less of a reach to hit the menu button.
I am excite for this phone. Seems more and more like a real winner. I don't mind a 2600 mah battery as the GS4 had that same size and was just fine. I was concerned they'd go with 2300-2400, at which point it'd be a deal breaker.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk
I'm hopeful thatvthey might offer the ability to turn off on screen buttons, with hidden capacitive buttons in the large black bar. That would be ideal--the best of both worlds.

I disagree on the on screen buttons, but it's an opinion, so there's no point in arguing it.I would LOVE to see a 3000 mah battery, but supposedly 2600 is "confirmed." I personally am skeptic about anything being confirmed until HTC themselves says it.

I would LOVE to see this. Or at least some use for that area. As I said earlier, it's not a deal breaker, but the random black bar along with the lack on capacitive buttons won't be appreciated on my end at least. Though I understand one opinion does not change an entire company. Unless I'm the CEO of HTC and I didn't know it.

BUT htc probably kept the digitizer all the way down the black space, soooo.....

come on people start looking forward, after release most software solvable problems will be dealt with

Hey, guys. New owner of the Z1C here, and I'm wondering about my power button. It's really not clicky at all, maybe just barely when I push it a bit harder, and it just seems like something's not right about it. So, is this the case with all Z1C's, or are your power buttons clicky?
Thanks in advance.
Cheers, guys!
mine is not clicky, but also doesnt feel loose at all
i prefer not clicky type of buttons anyway so its good for me.
but yea it feels soft compared to volume buttons
Hmm. I guess I didn't get a defective device after all.
It's just that I was used to clicky feedback. I had a G2.
How much does it stick out of the outer ring (the one closer to the phone - that doesn't move)? Mine's a millimeter out, I'd say.
Thanks a lot for your answer!
Mine gives me a kind of clicky feedback if I push the power button. And it stands out about 0.7 millimeter.
Yes, mine too, but it's quite weak. Can you confirm this as well?
Thanks for your answer.
clicky, the same way as volume buttons
Hmm. Mine is less clicky than the volume buttons. Sometimes it's even hard to press.
I'm asking all of this to see if I should replace my device while it's still fresh.
Mine is clicky, but not audibly clicky.
That's ok, I didn't mean audibly either.
I just meant that you have a strong feedback that you pressed the button.
Thanks for all the answers so far, guys.
Mine is clicky aswell.
But it is also a bit loose. Its the only thing that bugs me about my Z1C

Yeah, I was in a bad mood because of it for a while.
I'd be happy if I knew that it will remain that way - that it wouldn't deteriorate in a matter of months. But I'm really not sure.

Yeah, that's a bit of a problem. They ran out of these models in the store, so now they have to order them each time someone wants one. Therefore, I can't compare it. And no one else that I know has this phone.

After a year my Z1C has a very unresponsive power button. Not the smallest click, nor the smallest feedback.
I don't think it even moves at all. It still works, but in the majority of times you have to press it very hard to work.
This was a bit progressive. Another friend of mine has a Z1C for 3-4 months and upon playing a bit with it I would say that is on course of breaking as well...
Obviously it is hardware fault caused probably by weak materials...
It is in service (warranty) for 7 days now. When I'll have a response from the service I'll share it here.
my power button is still clicky after 18 months. my problem is the squeaky back cover.
