Network performance? - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I haven't gotten my TMo G4 yet (arriving next week), but I'm curious to see if anyone has tested their LTE speeds.

I don't know if it's just cause phone isn't full released or my area is having network issue cause I have not hit above 10mb down on tmo lte network when I use to get around 22-30 down

Signal seems better than the m9 and s6
Not bars but dBm

So for some reason my tmo APN got deleted and after putting it in manually my speed seems to have gone back to normal

Tmobile Lg Nitro 3g/HSDPA Possible?

So i was walking along the road and then when i looked at my phone i saw a H above my signal bar and i screenshotted it. It switched between H and E, then 3g also appeared, but i couldnt get a shot of it because it disappeared quickly.
so now im wondering is 3g/hsdpa possible on a lg nitro using a tmobile sim because when i look around the forums people said only edge is available.
It's possible that you were roaming onto the AT&T network due to getting no T-Mobile signal for a brief period of time. The phone won't be able to get 3G on T-Mobile's network though.
It works!

Sorry forgot to update ya'll
I flashed back to stock ICS but now have whatever baseband you get by following the unbricking procedure and now I get Tmobile HSPA+ "4G".
Is it possible u live in an area where tmobile is rolling out there 1900mhz hspa?

That has to be why. The Nitro definitely doesnt support AWS bands for 3G/4G.
Just wanted to issue in case anyone wanted to save some money. I live in Kansas city and just started Wal-Mart family mobile service and I am getting 3g and hspa signal on my unlocked att p930. That being said, it does look like the data speed itself is throttled to 1mb/s up and down. I'm wondering if it's possible to change that by messing with the apn...

You definitley were in an area with 1900 band being utilized. It's been rolling out around Annapolis MD and Alexandria VA areas. Love it!
10mbps down.,
here is the map

Yes it appears that it's deployed throughout Kansas city and even about an 80 mile plus radius of the city. My device picks it up but family mobile have the speeds throttled down to .9mbps up/down no matter what. Very frustrating seeing the H symbol and not being able to break 1mbps anyone have any ideas?

Leave the proxy blank. For some reason the proxy.mvmo.tracphone.com limits data to 1MB.

No dice I'm using a tmobile apn with proxy blank, hipri connection and all.

OK I thought it was worth a shot. It was a problem with straight talk and thought it might also work thinking it might be a Nitro issue.

TMO LTE

Hey guys, just a wisdom about lte.
I get 1 bar of LTE inside my house, 2-3 bar of HSPDA and 4 bars of 2G. Does anyone know if tmobile will continue to add towers to the area even though my area has lte?
1 bar of lte is still faster then HSPDA.. Idk why I get 0-1bar of lte although I get full bar edge.

Tmobile will definitely be expanding LTE coverage. As to when and where, only they know. When hspa+ first came to my area, I noticed an increase in signal every few months. I'm sure they will work on just getting LTE to all major cities before they work on increasing coverage.

Alright..Kinda sucks to keep switching between lte and 3g and 2g.. I noticed even on only 2g/3g, the network switches a lot more compared to my old phone galaxy nexus.

Slower than 3g, LTE?

Hi, I'm here in Williamsburg, with updated everything (PRL, software, firmware, modem, etc) on a rooted stock MD4 ROM. And when I turn on my 4g LTE radio, because I have pretty decent coverage here in the burg, I usually get speeds of about 90-200 kbps. Since the new update of speed test, it doesn't even ping at all because of how slow it is. When LTE first reached Williamsburg I had a solid 16-24 Mbps in certain areas. Multiple people tell me its the amount of people that is throttling it but that I don't think that is logical since 3g is faster. Any ideas? Anything I'm doing wrong?

Are they working on the Network in your area ?
Well every LTE site is technically still being "worked on" but the base LTE has been up for a while.

Most be Network issue. Happened to me, I was able to connect to LTE, but no data or slower than 3g. I'm running Slim, so I just turned off LTE. It lasts for over a week. And I'm really far away from you, so yes must be Network issue.

Straight talk( At&t lte)

Maybe it's just me but in the past week the signal has gotten terrible. I get 4G lte but like no bars. In Areas Where I Normally Get Full Bars And Great Signal . But when I do get is great speeds up to 19mb down .

Questions about throttling

Hello, I have a question for all the tmobile users here.
I am currently on Sprint with a note 3, everything was going great with Sprint until I moved out into the county. I have been here for a year now, no cable, dsl, 4G lte on Sprint's spectrum, Wimax, fiber obviously, and no other reliable sources. Sprint is available here and all I have been getting is 3g until recently...now I'm stuck with 1xRTT. My only other option is satellite and I just can't bring myself to do that and I'm done waiting for Sprint's "Spark" since it will take years for them to actually update the towers and roll out any kind of improved network in my area. Sprint is upgrading towers now hence the drop in signal but this has been going on for months now. Lte is in the area maybe 5 minutes out but not on my property at all. They want to combine their three bands into one, providi g 40-50% more data coverage but we all know thats a big dream to come...if ever. Verizon LTE works here along with at&t's LTE (I understand Verizon sold them their lte spectrum on lower blocks and now tmobile), and T-mobile works with hspa+ but I have not tested lte yet, either way hspa+ would be amazing for me compared to 1xRTT.
My question for you is this, if I make the switch to Tmobile and bring over my domestic unlocked note 3 with the sim kit and start fresh as a new customer on the unlimited data plan and I reach my soft cap of 3gigs, how bad do they really throttle you? I guess I want to ask if they really check up on you and if the throttle speeds are equivalent to 1xRTT or faster? I'm just trying to figure out if it'd be worth the switch, I could handle the throttle if edge is a better punishment than 1xRTT. A good friend of mine works for tmobile and says the throttle is very real and that tmobile will know exactly when I reach my soft cap or if my phone is even rooted (doubtfull) and if I try to use a hot spot mod. I have been with Sprint for 8 years (too long) but it was nice to always have unlimited data with no cap or throttle if and when you actually had service, so my knowledge and experience is only with Sprint.
Can someone please help with some of your personal experiences?
Thank you!

Edge is .08 mbps download not really usable. I've used hot spot hacks for a year with no problem .

Thanks Mike, are you on the newer $20 unlimited 4G, or are you grandfathered on the older unlimited data plan? Also when you used the hot spot hack are you throttled still or is it just when you use it normally?

I've never been throttled. I'm on the unlimited $20 that does not include tether . When I'm in a 2g area it's basically unusable data

Okay awesome, thanks for the feedback and help

If you get the unlimited data plan you won't be throttled and if you root your phone you'll be able to bypass throttling limits. The only way for T-Mobile to know you're rooted is if you have the T-Mobile app installed. It can tell if you allow it to run a diagnostic on your phone.

Ah I see, so does any particular rom help in that aspect or just simply need to be rooted with SU and use a wifi tether mod/app?
I'm already rooted and am running a rom on my Sprint note 3 and I'll be using a T-Mobile sim so it sounds like I'll be good to go.
The T-Mobile app makes sense to why they would even know in the first place, maybe running AOSP would be safest?

Okay sounds good and thank you. Looks like I'll be making the switch then.
Most roms do at this point. I recommend tweaked nf1,, doesn't get any better than it.
