Tmobile Lg Nitro 3g/HSDPA Possible? - LG Nitro HD

So i was walking along the road and then when i looked at my phone i saw a H above my signal bar and i screenshotted it. It switched between H and E, then 3g also appeared, but i couldnt get a shot of it because it disappeared quickly.
so now im wondering is 3g/hsdpa possible on a lg nitro using a tmobile sim because when i look around the forums people said only edge is available.

It's possible that you were roaming onto the AT&T network due to getting no T-Mobile signal for a brief period of time. The phone won't be able to get 3G on T-Mobile's network though.

It works!

I flashed back to stock ICS but now have whatever baseband you get by following the unbricking procedure and now I get Tmobile HSPA+ "4G".

Is it possible u live in an area where tmobile is rolling out there 1900mhz hspa?

That has to be why. The Nitro definitely doesnt support AWS bands for 3G/4G.

Just wanted to issue in case anyone wanted to save some money. I live in Kansas city and just started Wal-Mart family mobile service and I am getting 3g and hspa signal on my unlocked att p930. That being said, it does look like the data speed itself is throttled to 1mb/s up and down. I'm wondering if it's possible to change that by messing with the apn...

You definitley were in an area with 1900 band being utilized. It's been rolling out around Annapolis MD and Alexandria VA areas. Love it!
10mbps down.,

here is the map
http://www.airportal.de/

Yes it appears that it's deployed throughout Kansas city and even about an 80 mile plus radius of the city. My device picks it up but family mobile have the speeds throttled down to .9mbps up/down no matter what. Very frustrating seeing the H symbol and not being able to break 1mbps anyone have any ideas?

Leave the proxy blank. For some reason the proxy.mvmo.tracphone.com limits data to 1MB.

OK I thought it was worth a shot. It was a problem with straight talk and thought it might also work thinking it might be a Nitro issue.

Download speedtest.net. after you run the test go to results and click on one of them. Scroll down to network and if you are on 3g or 2g it will say cell. If you are connected to hspa+ it will display utms. Also you can generally tell by the speeds you get from running the test.

Make sure you choose a close server too, don't choose one that's 500 miles away.
I got Mobile Signal Widget from Android Marker. It's really nice. Will show a H, 3G, E, G, etc depending on what you're connected to.
Same here really good tool. It's helping me in seeing what freaky stuff my phone is doing with data and signal strength. I think I'm in a poor spot and I'm going to try to spend some time in another spot where the coverage is known better and see if I get the same issues.

pierrekid is right. however, he shoulda thrown in that it was also sideways endorsed by cyanogen (i think, it was a long time ago when he suggested only using speedtest cause other apps dont show real results)

Every Single one of mine says cell... I'm in Salt Lake City Utah, which it says is one of the finished cities. WTF, do I call T-Mobile?
Lol first off krashunist, you also are making yourself look like an idiot. It obvious I'm not spamming. Second I would try and drive around a bit to differnt locations in your area just to confirm that it not your phones that's faulty but the actual network. If you see that your connecting to 4g is different areas just gotta wait till they refine and improve the network to work in your specific area. Believe I'm going through the same exact thing here in miami.

Data needs to shape up,

I've had my g2 for about 4 months now and I'm quite happy with it. Rooted with perm s-off, running about 4 different roms, blahblahblah. I have the full data plan for my phone, and I've used it passed the data cap through all my billing cycles so far.
However, I live in hawaii. The data here is unbearably slow. Using speedtest, I see people with scores of 4mb down and 1mb up.
I average ALMOST 0.3mb down 0.9mb up. that's with 3g on, if you couldn't guess.
I've already tried flashing different radios for my phone, but it only minamally increases my data speed for a huge increase in battery consumption.
Am I stuck here, to wander a 2g world with my almost-but-not-really-4g phone? Help me out if you'd care to lend a hand, I'm kind of sick of seeing the buffer icon permanently on youtube.
Toodles.

The phone is 4g. That doesn't mean your area has it though. Have you bothered to call you service provider to make sure you are connected to the proper tower? I had data speeds like yours but found my phone was trying to connect to a tower in a completely different city.

There's kind of no tower in, around, or relatively close to hawaii. The closest tower is in L.A I believe, which is the one I'm connected to. So no matter where I go on the island, the signal stays around there.

You're not getting 2G speeds. 2G speeds is edge which is at BEST and THEORETICALLY a little under 250 kbps. You're doing decent for 3G. If it was a 4G connection you'd see "H" instead of "3G".

That doesn't seem possible. there has to be some sort of cell towers on one of the islands there. Carriers use each others towers at times to. I know the internet out there can get screwy at times so I understand your frustrations...write your local congress person lol

You're right, the OP can't possibly be correct about there being no cell towers in Hawaii. The max range of a GSM tower is about 22 miles in the best of conditions, and almost always much less. Towers have to be placed as close as 1/2 mile apart in some terrain or urban conditions. 1 to 2 miles apart is average in many conditions.

Even if you're rooted, that symbol will not show unless you've got a theme or rom that is set to show HSPA+ in the status bar.
Download mobile signal widget, it will tell you whether or not you are actually on HSPA+.

Same thing is happening in my area as well. (Chicago western suburbs / Schaumburg, IL)
I have both a contracted 4g and a prepaid 4g T-Mobile plans and as of the past couple of weeks data speeds have dropped to Sprint speeds ( 0.38Mbps / 0.01Mbps) while using HSPA.
When I was getting at the same location ( 19.30 Mbps / 1.70 Mbps).
Verizon's LTE is looking pretty darn good right about now, I may end up closing these 2 Tmobile accts real soon if they can't get this straightend out quickly.
It probably has something to do with T-Mobile refarming the bands / towers over to the 1900Mhz freq.

[Q] force 3g on GS3

I recently rooted my GS3 and i have been trying to figure out how to force 3g service on it any help? since i can only pick up 4g in certain areas im tired of the EDGE 2G.
Im pretty sure you cant, seeing as hspa+ is still technically 3G or WCDMA. So I think your stuck with Edge for now... Until T-Mobile does more service upgrades in your area... Don't worry, I get crappy service wherever I go, and I have the worst service here at home... Should have went with Sprint...

You could try, but AT&T uses the same thing "HSPA+" which is really 3G, but they still call it 4G, and that's what would show up on your status bar (it would still say 4G), so I don't know if that'll work... You can give it a try though. I'm actually going try it our right now, and see how it works. I'll keep you posted. :good:
Have that issue too and don't count on them upgrading anything anytime soon. Just wait till your contract is up and make that switch

sprint ditching 4g and reverting back to evdo ?

Since I first turned on my LGOG in my neighborhood in Miami, I've been on the eHRPD network. This week, however, eHRPD is gone from my whole zip code and evdo_a is back.
While eHRPD gave me crappy signal and horrible data throughput, evdo_a at least gives me 1Mbps. But does that mean sprint is abandoning 4g LTE for my zip code?
maybe working on it or upgrading? doubt theyd go backwards lol

Wonder if the OP knows that eHRPD and EVDO-A are broadcast from the same tower on the same channel using the same technology and the same backhaul. It is one signal, not two different signals.
I'm seeing this in my area too. Looks like ehrpd was stopped from broadcasting, logcat shows its not even trying to authenticate or connect to ehrpd. but lte is still broadcast. Time to check s4gru.
