Hi XDA,
I have a Canadian Note 2 SGH-i317m from Telus (Canadian carrier). Baseband = I317MVLALJ2. The phone has stock 4.1.1 and is unlocked. I'm thinking of upgrading the phone first to Kitkat (OTA) and then applying the custom AWS modem because I don't want to take a chance with a custom rom. I know you dial *#0808# instead of *#7284# for Kitkat, but my concerns are as follows:
I'm assuming version QPST 2.7 build 323 is compatible with kitkat......
1) Is the custom modem compatible with Kitkat (OTA)? The reason I ask this is because I heard the further the upgrade with Android, the greater the chance of the custom modem losing compatibility/function.
2) Is it possible to do a factory reset with a custom modem once it's installed? Will I lose the custom modem and gain the old one?
3) Is the QPST backup of original modem qcn enough to restore a lost IMEI (just in case), as compared to a Nandroid backup?
4) Will my baseband name be changed after procedure?
5) Is it true that you can't downgrade from official kitkat or is it just a rumor?
My apologies for the many questions but little info is found for kitkat. Too many conflicting responses.
Many thanks in Advance

I just picked up a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (model: SGH-T889V) from my local WIND Mobile carrier in Canada as a backup device. To my knowledge, this is the same variant which is used by T-Mobile. I'm told the device hardware supports LTE but since WIND Mobile is not a premium carrier, Samsung has crippled this feature.
I have a Note 3 and after unlocking the device, I was able to use chainfire's method for ROOTING the device, installing TWRP recovery and then flashing with the Telus Mobility ROM (as all Canadian Note 3 devices are the same variant: SM-N900W8).
My concern is I am new to ROOTING/FLASHING and have searched the forums but am looking for concrete advice so I do not end up bricking my device. I am currently running Android 4.1.2 (stock from WIND at day of purchase) and when I go into the regional carrier settings, I do not see the regional code for Telus (TLS). I did see this on my Note 3 but I did not look until after unlocking and rooting so maybe it will not display until the proper ROM is loaded.
My questions are:
1) Can I use the same version of ODIN I have downloaded when ROOTING/FLASHING my Note 3?
2) Can I flash the same version of TWRP I did for my Note 3 or is TWRP device dependent? If I need a new version, could someone post a link for my model: SGH-T889V?
3) Can I flash the Telus ROM for their Note 2 variant (like I did my Note 3) or will this brick my device? If not, what ROM can I flash so I have LTE capability?
With my Note 3, it was straight forward! All I did was ROOT, FLASH TWRP recovery, install the Telus SM-N900W8 ROM, enable the regional setting for TLS and voila, I had LTE. I'm going to assume it's a little more difficult with the Note 2 but answering my questions and the guidance you provide would be much appreciated and help in my process. Thanks!
I bought an unlocked AT&T i747 in the U.S. and gave it to my sister in Germany, where she uses it on the O2 network. It's still on the 4.1.x AT&T stock ROM, and I want to upgrade it to 4.3, but have a few question for you S III experts:
1) Should I use the official AT&T MJB ROM, or one of the Rogers/Bell/Telus MK5 ROMs? (keep in mind that I need none of the carrier specific stuff, I just want the best 4.3 stock ROM for the i747)
2) It is unclear to me what difference the new 4.3 bootloader makes. Do I need o flash it, or am I better off leaving the bootloader unchanged? I understand one cannot go back once on the 4.3 bootloader, but I don't understand what advantages the new bootloader brings.
Any advice is greatly appreciated. I am still in Germany for a few days before returning to the U.S., and would love to perform the upgrade while I'm here.
Also, battery life is of utmost importance, so if upgrading to 4.3 is known to have any negative impact in this regard, please let me know.
Thanks!

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?
can any aussies help me with this...ive got a n 7105 4g coming to me...now I know(??) its not a Telstra phone,as it doesn't have the Telstra logo next to the 4g on the back cover..i need to find a firmware on sam mobile to load into it (previous owner has rooted it and left a custom rom on it)..now I can find Telstra and optus firmware (im with optus atm), but I was hoping theres an aussie unbranded 4.1.2 firmware I can flash that will work ( owner assures me phone never updated to 4.3,and I want to keep it that way,to avoid all that knox bs.. also will I have problems just flashing a stock 4.12 to the phone??? I have read that I could have problems if I downgrade the firmware, what could happen?(assuming it hasn't seen the 4.3 update)..will I have problems if I flash the optus or Telstra? any help mu7ch appreciated, thanks :good:
It's an old thread but this is a 4.1.2 aussie based rom

If you want to run a 4.3 rom without knox you just need agni or devil kernel for wifi. I'm from the UK so can't really help with much else

Hi Luis I would like to help you, as much as I can, first of all tell me what have you done so far on your phone to make the GSm work?
Have you rooted your phone?
which rom do you have right now in which android 4.1.2, 4.4.2 or which one?
did you installed apn pro? and titanium back up pro?
did you enable apn pro into an system app?
after you answer those questions or if even better you mention what have you done so far will be able to help, I have done several SPH L900 into gsm phones, so I know I can help you.
saludos,
Just flash LK8 modem. Looks like LJ1 and LJC works too.
Hi. I'm just wondering if I can find my existing modem on the PC and replace the modem in a custom ROM with my existing one? If so is there a tutorial or could someone please make one. I don't even know where to find the modem or what it's called. Thank you ☺
Anyone? How do I know the custom ROM will support my countries bands?
There's no need to do whatever you're trying to do.
All gsm custom ROM should work fine in your country.
I used to have Telstra & Optus when I was in your country.
Most important is, your firmware is the latest Marshmallow or at least Lollipop to use custom ROM.
Your firmware carries the radio and carrier specific band, not the custom ROM.
