[Q] Restor nandroid backup on new installed rom - Xperia Z1 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi!
If Im installing the same rom flashable zip (what I already have, 242) through recovery, can I use nandroid backup files (system and data) to recover my old rom data/system (same stock 242)?
And if I'll update to . 270, can I use the nandroid backup from 242 to restore my data/system?
Thanks

You can flash a stock pre rooted 270 through your current recovery and wipe dalvik cache and cache partition. This way you get to keep your data and apps. If you have any problems just use the recovery of your choice to go back to 242.
Using PC companion or OTA updates will make you lose root.

No..... if you use nandroid backup it's a system image and will replace whatever you have installed so you'll effectively downgrade ..... if i understand you correctly you simply want to update to 270 and keep all your apps and data so when you reboot the device it looks the same but it's running 270 instead of 242...?
have a look at the link I sent you above.... you should take another nandroid sys image backup once you have 270 in place and running how you want..... if you have a nandroid 242 and a nandroid 270 you can effectively swap between firmware versions really easily by restoring either one..... and you can see for yourself exactly what the changes have done in the update... BTW... here is the changelog for 270
Xperia Z1c update (14.5.A.0.270) changelog
– Ensured the lock screen / notification bar doesn’t indicate “no service” when the device has coverage
– Added a Sony feature; bringing back the “close-all-button” in the activity menu, so you can easily close all apps at once
– Unblocked devices with server policies (such as Exchange Active Sync for e-mail), to enable the new Lollipop lock-screen notifications
– Ensured the LED light is lit across all sound modes – and no longer offset by “silent”
– Made the necessary fixes to enable the easy movement of content from internal memory to external microSD card (something we saw affecting a few devices)
– Improved messaging functionality in Ultra stamina mode – some conversations could not be opened before in Ultra stamina mode

Great, exactly what I ment..
Xperia Z1 Compact .242

Most of the time it's better to explain what you want to achieve and detail your device status... rather than ask if you do abc will you get xyz...? English can be a very ambiguous language in written form.
I reckon it might be good in this thread to have a standard format for OP which gets the all the status info about your device and then whether it's an issue and what you've tried to do so far to fix it.... OR.... as in your case a mod task/firmware update that you want to achieve with the results you's like to get.
anyway.... let us know how you get on with that update....

I'll try it as soon as I can..
Do you know if I'll need to install xposed framework again?

Xposed framework for lollipop is still in in early dev stage.... so regardless of whether you 'could' keep the installation, due to it's possible instability I would recommend a re-flash of the latest updated framework build

I think you save the file in your firmware folder of Flashtool (if it's XDA Flashtool).
Then, plug in your Xperia SL (when off) to the usb charger, holding down -- entering flashmode.
Select the lightning icon, choose flashmode. Then select from the dropdown folder, the file.
Next, make sure you selct wipe cache, wipe data, and apps log... then deselect all else, except
for "No final verification". It should work then.
Open Flashtool first, and then plug it in. Make sure you are using a compatible rom, I am pretty sure the only difference between the SL and S (Lt26i) is the processor.
Cheers, MC.
Thanks

Did you flash an Xperia S ROM to your Xperia SL? I am asking since I also own an SL and couldn't find any stock firmware here in XDA specifically for the SL for reverting to stock purposes ...

[Q] Bit if help & advise please - custom rom

OK to start. Yes I have searched and read more info in the last 5 days than. I have done in the last year !!
I've literally spent about 10 hours reading / testing so far
Sorry for the war and peace below but if I explain everything so far it may help answer some of the initial questions that are normally asked
Here is what I have, what I wan't to achieve and what I've tried so far and the results.
I have a "Basic" arc (Not pro or "S" or anything like that). - LT15i. Latest version of andriod it will take via the official channels is 2.3.4
Build 4.0.2.A.0.62 (I Think).
I want to put on a custom rom and jazz things up a bit
Searching for good stable roms etc, several polls / posts point to "Xperia Ultimate HD" so thats what I'm trying 1st.
Looks to be on 4.1 of ICS (Seems a bit of a big jump from 2.3. (Can my arc handle that)
OK Here's what's happened so far
Tried to root the phone (flashtool, then loads of other ways) finally found out that build ......62 has a Kernal that can not be rooted, so I flashed .....42 with a rootable Kernal and then the zergrush rooting exploit worked.
Next I tried to unlock the bootloader, did the "*#*#7378423#*#" (Service info > Configuration > Rooting Status) check which was blank, thus shouldn't be unloackable, but I'm kinda stubborn and tried it anyway. Flashtool reported that it worked and now the status says unlocked !!
So I installed X-parts and flashed the zip file exactly as its says in the instructions to flash the rom, leaving all the default options as they are unless I specifically had to choose something, like i.e. which phone is this for (Chose ARC), when finished I re-booted and it now just gets stuck in a loop, getting to the Sony logo screen and re-booting. None of the support searches seem to fix / address my particular issue
I've managed to re-flash back to the stock version and tried the above method a couple of times.
Note: I'm a little more comfortable flashing FTF files via flashtool, but can use recovery software and flash from a zip on SD if required
Q: Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
Q: Does this ROM work on the Std Arc or is it for the "S" (LT18)
Q: Any other roms you advise I should try. Want something stable but with a little bit more Jazz than the outdated version I'm on now.
Q: Any advise on best way to backup my current phone & config. (Solved - figured how to do a backup in CWM)
I don't mind flashing a backup if something goes wrong / doesn't work when applying a new rom, but at present i'm having to flash a stock image and re-do my contacts, play account etc etc.
Thanks for taking time to read this, any replies / suggestions greatly appreciated
Did you do factory reset, cache partition, user and system clear and battery stats reset?

Yep, done all the usual resets / clears
N.b thanks for the hint on CWM backup. I'd just figured that bit out also
If your bootloader is unlocked you don't need X-Parts, and wiping data will remove it from the system.

I've managed to get this installed
Not sure which of the following worked (suspect it was the latter)
1 installed stock ICS rom 1st
2 When installing the HD ROM, I chose the 2nd option in the launcher install menu (GX)
Although I have a CWM backup, I would like to know if there is a way to make an FTF file based on my current phone config so I can image this via flash tool in the event of a non booting phone?

[Q] Can I keep my Apps after Flashing 4.3

I have a Sony Xperia M Dual C 2005 with Android JB 4.2.2 Full root ,
I read the post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2709911 and would like to do the upgrade but I need to keep all the apps I downloaded .
Is it possible ?
I made a backup using built-in backup and restore app.
Well this is what i did, i used root browser or any other root compatible file managers. I opened /data/app. I coppied all the apks there and pasted them onto my external sd card. Then i upgraded my android to 4.3 and rooted again. I got the root browser again and went to my external sd card where i put all the apks. You then click on each apk and install it, the process doesn't take long. And it works very well.
Hope this helped

Thanks but
Nice Idea
but what about the backup and restore did anyone try it ??
also what about Link2SD
I have installed a lot of programs in my second partition. Are they going to be deleted completely or I must delete them before flashing or what should I do ?

Which flash tool
Which flash tool do you mean is it sony emma or this http://www.flashtool.net/index.php ?

After running the script, you'll need to flash the entire FTF of 4.3 excluding system. In that step you can also untick "wipe data", that way you'll have all your app data in 4.3 with root without needing backup

It's Flashtool from flashtool.net, here is the tutorial for flashing if you need one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2697277
download Titanium Backup and backup your apps
Thank you all folks for your precious answers.
I did upgrade my system to 4.3 without removing my apps and this is how I did it
1- I used the ftf of 4.3 and as told when flashing I didn't choose to wipe data
2- When flashing using windows 8.1 update 1 64 bit I TOTALLY FAILED TO INSTALL DRIVERS , so I installed the flashtool on another machine running the 32 bit only and drivers were installed normally.
3- I did the flashing and during the driver installation my device started up ( I still don't know why , I did PANIC as the guide of mbc07 told not to start the device or else there will be bootloop) , I just stopped the device by removing battery then continued the flashing operation.
4- After the flash I took a long time to start and it upgraded and optimized my apps ( later I found out it was only apps at my internal memory )
5- APP2SD WAS NOT ABLE TO FIND MY 2ND (FAT) PARTITION , I tried many times to recreate or configure it to see it but in vain , Hence I un installed it and reinstalled it and THERE IT WAS MY 2ND PARTITION .
6- After rebooting all linked apps were there but ALL FAILED TO START ( ALL CRASHED) , hence I tried to reinstall all linked apps using LINK2SD ( my saviour )
And now I have a normally functioning 4.3 Sony Xperia M DUAL C2005 with full root , a 2nd partition and lots of apps
Thank you XDA FORUM YOU ROCK

I'm still learning all this stuff so thanks for the info, I'll try that instead as it sounds easier than running a script that Im not really sure what it does!
So Flashtool will wipe all partitions and get rid of all previous program folders and pretty much everything safely? Cheers.

Flashtool is best used for putting a stock rom onto your phone, although it has other uses. When it's finished the phone is completely clean, wiped, no data.
You will then have to put an account on the phone, root it, put dual recovery on it, or a custom rom, or do nothing
Remember the TA partition contains your DRM keys, do not wipe this or certain Sony stock functions will stop working. This is indicated in the flashtool by the letters TA, so do not tick this box when wiping the phone.
To find the rom for you service provider/area use then you should head over to IaguCool' s thread on Xperia Firmware Downloader & Checker. Follow the instructuions there. You will need a copy of Flashtool and it'd be good to read the thread on 'how to' as all the instructions are there, rather than jump to the last page and ask, which is what everybody does.

Thank you, I have previously rooted the phone and installed a stock rom a few weeks ago and probably wiped the TA partition via flashtool being a newbie although not 100% sure! Is there anything specific I would notice if I had wiped TA?
Im now running CM11 but just notice theres a lot of junk folders still and its not running smooth as it should so wanted to wipe again completely. I'll follow the process again and be sure to untick TA although maybe too late, Ive prob lost my warranty by losing the keys but sometimes its the only way to learn by just going for it but hopefully its no big deal.
Thanks again for your help.

To be honest it's not an issue, there are only half a dozen apps at most and if you are to believe jimRnor on his DRM FUNTION RESTORATION FOR UB thread, you can get them working again anyway.
Thanks, so when I flash my CM11 rom after a wipe and stock rom flash via flashtool, it will completely overwrite the stock rom correct?

An update, its still working amazingly bug free!!! (w/o data wipe)
Also, *I think* battery life has much improved ... but that may be because I wiped cache and also turned off Stamina mode after reading it sucks battery life rather than help it lol!
I did run into some battery level quirkiness within the first few days of install, but hoping it was just some learning curve the OS had to do w/ battery ... time will tell =)
I do have a question tho, just noticed you state the bootloader/recovery is "locked"? Does this overwrite my previous "unlocked" state and its relocked now? Or does an unlocked state persist? Thanks

No,this doesn't overwrite your unlocked bootloader. your unlocked state is persist. You can check by dialing *#*#7378423#*#* /Service info/Configuration/Rooting status:
Sad update, seems my phone has fallen victim to the "LP upgrade & damaged battery" coincidence =( ... I know its not a fault of ur ROM. Phone works fine from 100% to 50% then a 50% it rapidly drops to 1% and shuts off =/
That being said, ordered a replacement battery kit + back door + NFC tag. Hopefully normal battery functionality will be restored after its replaced =)
Seems to be a widespread problem =/ Its weird because I had LP 5.0.2 on it previously.
Battery replacement went well, back to full expected usage time!

Dirty flash I love you dirty flash blahblahblah
Thanks for this, just what I needed without the hasle as Gen said I just flashed over the rom I was using (mx 8.5), wiped dalvik and that other thing but kept data and now my phones overheating has stopped, installed xposed and my tweaks reinstalled themselves... Because of the dirty flash some of the apps needed updating but apart from that its ask good... Nice one
