I think you save the file in your firmware folder of Flashtool (if it's XDA Flashtool).
Then, plug in your Xperia SL (when off) to the usb charger, holding down -- entering flashmode.
Select the lightning icon, choose flashmode. Then select from the dropdown folder, the file.
Next, make sure you selct wipe cache, wipe data, and apps log... then deselect all else, except
for "No final verification". It should work then.
Open Flashtool first, and then plug it in. Make sure you are using a compatible rom, I am pretty sure the only difference between the SL and S (Lt26i) is the processor.
Cheers, MC.
Thanks

Did you flash an Xperia S ROM to your Xperia SL? I am asking since I also own an SL and couldn't find any stock firmware here in XDA specifically for the SL for reverting to stock purposes ...
Thanks!

I also want to know!!!!!! I have been trying to install CM7 on my Arc Lt15i phone for a long time but was never able to due t the dreaded status 7 error. I toggled the script asserts but it still did not help me at all. Then I tried CM9 and it was the same damn disaster! Please let me know if you are able to install it. I hate the fact that I have the ARC S and the ARC Lt15i problem always colliding together. I hope this will not be a problem when JB comes around!

It's simple, flash the kernel, install the ROM, done.
The kernel is in the .zip file(boot.img). You have to extract it. Place the zip file on your arc. Flash the kernel with fastboot or flashtool. Then enter cwm. Wipe Cache, wipe dalvik cache and factory reset. Then install the rom.

Simple like that
just follow the instructions provided exactly 100% and you should be fine.
however,
last time i tried to install fxp cm9.0 by flashing the kernel 1st i almost killed my phone and it scared the **** outta me. i cant even enter recovery or fastboot and i had to reflash a stock ftf in flashmode to try it again. i think that flashing the zip file together with a full wipe then only the kernel works better..any ideas?
My friend is currently running Arconium ICS on his Xperia, and now when I tried to install CM9 (Did full wipe > install CM > install gapps in CWM) it just gets stuck at the boot logo (SONY). After recovering the backup of Arconium in CWM it boots up fine again.
Since the boot logo didn't change, I'm thinking CM9 maybe didn't install a new kernel or something? Is there something I can do to make sure that CM9 fits as well as possible? If kernel switching is on the table I'd like to be able to do this from CWM.
Thank you!

you must install the kernel "boot.img" through flashtool
is inside the zip file

Do I have to do this via flashtool? No way to do it from inside CWM? Please excuse if this is a stupid question, I'm not still a 100 % sure what boot.img, recovery, kernel and all these are and how they fit together.

Yes, through the FlashTool is safer.
For all your doubts see this link, is a little extended but very complete.

Boot.img is the kernel in a compiled file, which needs to be installed via fastboot. Flashtool includes fastboot aswell, so you can install the kernel(boot.img) using it.
Recovery is a certain 'program' used to install custom stuff, make full backups(Nandroid backup) and restore them, wipe/format partitions and some other stuff. Recovery can be included already inside the kernel, but there is also possibility to install it on /system partition for those who can't unlock bootloader and/or install custom kernel.
My recommendation - Don't do it if you don't understand anything. You should go and learn about the whole Android first, get yourself familiar with how to recover the phone(install stock firmware etc), what are the terms that we use, what is what etc, then come back. Else...you might get yourself a nice (temporary) brick and then you have another problem, how to get back the phone.

Obviously you didnt flash the kernel..and before doing that u need to make sure if ur bootloader is unlocked..if it is unlocked then only you can proceed with flashing the kernel and then installing the ROM.

Dude, nozomi is only for Xperia S device. You installed the wrong ROM!
Go check the supported devices list to find your device's codename.

Ok then. Reflash stock firmware, root, and install cwm.
After rooting phone and installing CWM ,follow these steps in CWM
1. Wipe data/factory reset
2. wipe cache partition
3. go to mounts and storage menu and\
4. format /system
5. format/data
6. format cache
7. exit mounts and storage menu
6. go to advance
7. wipe dalvik cache
8. wipe battery stats
9. exit advance
10. install custom rom from sd card without rebooting
It's sad to say that... but it's what i've do :/.
Hum thank you i will retry :/ may be can you tell me a perfect rom ? I love jelly bean i had it on my old HD2.

I backup my rom and i do it now
I will tell you, thank you.
Nooooooo o: I do that since 2 weeks and nothing works but with you yes
Thank you very much you are the best my phone boot :silly:

I have just successfully rooted my Xperia Arc and installed CWM recovery.
I was about to flash a new ROM so before that I factory reset (nothing went wrong) and format my sd card (it went wrong here)
At the Recovery, under mount and storage, i formatted everything, including the system :crying:
I thought it was something on the sd card, not the operating system :crying:
Now when I try to boot up the phone it just stuck at Sony logo
I have come so far just to screw it all up at the last step
Is there any where to install back the OS
Please I really need help. I just started a day ago. Please help

Hi Just dowload any room from here put the sd car and install from the cwm .or try to recover from sony pc companion just do repair
Hi thanks for the quick reply
Hmm all my phone can do is stuck at Sony logo, nothing else
It is that bad, and for your info
It can't go into Recovery
My PC / Sony PC Companion is not able to detect it
Flash tool still can detect that it is connected
and by any ROM u mean custom ROM?
I have Speed ROM 8.0, not installed on my phone yet though
If I just install custom ROM I can get my phone back to life?
But first, I don't think I can install custom ROM / do anything when I can't do things I mentioned above
Download stock ICS and flash it using flashtool.
Thanks for the reply
Ok I will try that.
But how to flash a ROM using flash tool? It is possible? I have only used flash tool for firmware.
And all I can google is about how to flash a ROM using ROM Manager or Recovery.
Do you have link to any tutorial about this?
Edit:
Opps I found something about that.
Another question, is it ok to use any version of stock ICS?
I found Dovahkiin 1.2. Is it ok?
Or is Speed ROM 8.0 ok?

First you will need a stock rom, than root, cwm and than you can start with custom roms...
Flashtool works only with .ftf files as i know,so first download ICS Stock .587...

I tried flashing .587 ICS ftf. And as soon as it reboots i get com.android.process has stopped message. I flashed an GB ftf and it works fine. Please help me. What must be the cause of the problem..?
PS: I was using Omega ROM for the past one month. Suddenly it became unresponsive. Now No ICS ROM is supporting.

You mean in the CWM..? But that can be done only after flashing a kernel right? But i get FCs after the first reboot of the system after the flashing processes is done. Or is there any " mount system and wipe system" option is the flastool that should be done before flashing?
Flashtool will wipe system by default unless you unchecked it before flashing.

SEUS need locked bootloader.
And no, restoring your phone by SEUS means a full wipe, which means you lose your personal data.
