Hello everyone ,
I have rooted my phone and install recovery many times on it, for put a new custom rom. But when I flash a rom my phone reboot and just stuck at sony logo. I can put only the original ftf with flashtool for boot .
My bootloader is locked but many roms says "for locked bootloader", but on my phone they doesn't works.
I'm lost.

3. go to mounts and storage menu and\
4. format /system
5. format/data

So, i want to try Jelly Sandwitch 5.0. It seems nice to me and everybody tells that this is a very fast ROM.
I have unlocked bootloader.
This is how i tryied to instal JS 5:
- root my phone with DoomLord method (downgrade kernel, root then replace the kernel with the .587 one).
- install cwm with x-parts
- reboot and enter the recovery menu
- wipe cache, data, dalvik
- install from zip
Jellybean have an installer that let me choose different option like the launcher, keyboard, some apps and some other options.
I've tryied 3 times using different option like install link2sd, wipe data, and so on, but everytime it ends up just showing me the sony logo, then i have to reinstall everything, root, cwm, etc.
I can't post in the Jelly Sandwich thread on the developer forum so i ask here if i'm doing something wrong.
Also, can you suggest me a rom good as JS5?
Thank you in advance (and sorry for my english)

Try flashing doom kernel ver.5 . Many users have the boot loop issue with stock kernel.
With doom kernel it works (for me too).
First flash doomkernel, than wipe cache, dalvik cache, data, and format /system
Reflash the rom and it will works.
The only kernel that works on my Arc with Jelly Sandwich 5 is XArc.
I tried other kernels but always get bootloops or crash just after typing my pin number.
XArc is great but don't provide HDMI.
JS 5 is probably the worst JS version. Maybe you should try an older version.

if you have an unlocked bootloader and installed a custom kernel, I don't think you need x-parts to install CMW as the kernel contains it?

I have an unlocked bootloader but not a custom kernel with cwm in it. Do you have a link for a guide about installing cwm without x-parts?
I tried it also and i got bootloop. Then i repaired phone and gave up...
After unlocking bootloader, find a custom kernel for your version of android ie: Ginger bread/ICS, DoomLord is a popular choice.
Keep in mind there is a version that can't be rooted, from memory its .62, in this case you have to down grade to .42
Flash the kernel:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
You will have root and custom recovery installed.

3.wipe dalvik cache (inside CWM)

5.Format /cache (Format cache)
6.Format /Data (internal data)
7.Install XperiaPlay Ice Cream Pureness.ver.1.zip (don't need to extract, put the zip you've downloaded into your SD card, go to CWM, install zip, choose zip from SD card, select that zip, press install, wait)

hi guys
doing this for a few friends at work, so i want to get it right tha'ts all
we get LT18As and i'd like to root it.
i've read about this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1683189
would this work for LT18A?
i can't tell since i thought that you can only flash kernel in tft format if you have unlocked the bootloader..
anyway sorry to be a pain
thanks
arc and arc s are almost same . so the method in whe post will work for you also get the firmware for arc s from the general section and follow the rest steps in the thread you have give .
1) get a stock .562 firmware for arc s ftf flash it to your mobile and use this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1601038 ( thanks to doomlord )
2) install x'parts from market and install CWM
3) get any custom rom from dev section which can flashed on locked bootloaders also and flash them from cwm.
all you need is to take a bit more PAIN to find them
unlocking bootloader breaks sony warranty , i hope you know this. also unlocking bootloader is neded only if you intend to flash kernel and not custom rom.
also mostly firmwares are in tft or zip format and kernels in img or sin types
Follow these steps for a rooted ICS arc s
1. flash a rootable ftf like this one
2. download and extract the files from this
3. put your phone on debugging mode and plug into your pc and run the Runme.bat file from the extracted file
4. phone will be rooted
PS - works for locked bootloader :highfive:
Thanks for the advice guys,
I actually managed to down grade to gingerbread and then I tried flashing jelly sandwich from the recovery. But I got into a boot loop.
Is it the way I did it? Or is it jelly sandwich?
What rom do you guys use?

If you are thinking of flashing jelly sandwhich, here are the steps (which the original post doesn't actually say). Also flash ics first just for safety measures.
make sure in cwm before installation
1. Wipe data/factory reset
2. wipe cache partition
3. go to mounts and storage menu and\
4. format /system
5. format/data
6. format cache
7. exit mounts and storage menu
6. go to advance
7. wipe dalvik cache
8. wipe battery stats
9. exit advance
10. install Jelly sandwich from sd card without rebooting

last version of ICS is not rootable without unlocked bootloader so you need to downgrade it then root and you should use the recommend kernel also, custom kernel might caused that.
Using Ultimate HD v1 /2 or Jelly Sandwich both good
I have a arc with locked bl and I have rooted it and installed cwm.
But when I try to install custom roms like Ultimate HD 2, Jelly sandwitch 7.4 or Xperia pureness 13 everything goes right except installing.
The installation of rom takes only 2 to 3 seconds and it finishes successfully but when I reboot my phone, it stucks at sony logo.
Normally installation of a rom takes minimum 30 seconds but in my phone it takes only 2 to 3 seconds.
What should i do?

Ensure that the custom rom you are installing is based on your current firmware..i.e. If you are in .42 or .58 GB install custom rom for GB, if you are in .431 ICS install custom rom based in .431. Ultimate HD, Jellysandwich 7.4 are based on .587 ICS. I have installed these on my arc s w/ locked bootloader with no problem..just be sure to do the ff via cwm:
Wipe cache partition
Wipe data/factory reset
In advance wipe dalvik cache
In mount and storage wipe cache, wipe data and wipe system
Install rom via install zip from sd card
Also make sure that you downloaded the rom completely, verify if the mb you downloaded is the same as the mb indicated in the link.
I recommend you try the ultimate hd v2 by jader since cwm is integrated in it.

Depends on if you have your bootloader locked or not. If it's locked, get either Jelly sandwhich or ultimate HD (They're both pretty much exactly the same)

Anyway .587 ICS has a lot of custom roms working for locked bootloader so you may consider upgrading your firmware.

That would suggest you've read things like the stickys, and given that there is more than one page in each section that you may just have come across some of the various guides that are floating about that describe how to flash ROMs via CWM (which are in the stickys to begin with), so when you then say...

I said i am a newbie, i don't know how these things work because my friend used to do root-roms things for me. I have already seen the installation notes but i am not aware of flashing roms or gaps or how to get started.

So what on Earth have you been doing here for the last few days.
All i recommend is just reading up on it all first.
Otherwise if things go wrong you will have to ask more questions...and have no phone till you fix it.
Only start messing about with you phone when you at least know a bit about what youre doing.
Or you will just keep on getting sarcastic and pretty rude answers.
XperienceD...you clearly arent going to stop this problem with people posting without searching, so PLEASE give the f*** up with your pointless answers
Install adb drivers, java sdk platform and flashtool 0.6.8.0
1. Unlock boot loader with adb
2. Download fusion 5 and fusion add-ons, Rom and gapps
3. Copy fusion add-ons and Rom / gapps to sd card
4. Use flashtool -fastboot to install kernal
5. Reboot phone and press back button when phone vibrates on fusion logo this will take you into cwm
6. Follow from step 5 on how to install
From flashing kernel to Rom booted will take 10mins
If you get stuck use search or google, just remember you are not the first person to ask and there are LOADS of tutorials on how to do everything on here
One other thing super jelly bean are only one out off I think 4 or 5 roms which are based on jelly bean CM10 The most of the rest are ICS which use different kernels
Don't be afraid, sjb is a worth-messing-up rom. If you got bootloop you've got your friend afterall.

What you may find pointless, I don't, and if this new member grasps the point of my post (hopefully a few older members will too), then it isn't actually pointless.

I am currently doing this. Flashed the .img with flashtool and fully-wiped. The problem is I can't install the Super Jelly Bean rom that i copied into my external sdcard. It says Can't mount Sdcard. Any helps from the seniors please? In addition I've actually searched numerous but none of them seems to work with this particular version of CWM which included in the SJB package from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2134257. Best regards for helps!
