[Q] Can I keep my Apps after Flashing 4.3 - Sony Xperia M

I have a Sony Xperia M Dual C 2005 with Android JB 4.2.2 Full root ,
I read the post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2709911 and would like to do the upgrade but I need to keep all the apps I downloaded .
Is it possible ?
I made a backup using built-in backup and restore app.

Well this is what i did, i used root browser or any other root compatible file managers. I opened /data/app. I coppied all the apks there and pasted them onto my external sd card. Then i upgraded my android to 4.3 and rooted again. I got the root browser again and went to my external sd card where i put all the apks. You then click on each apk and install it, the process doesn't take long. And it works very well.
Hope this helped
Sent from my C2004 using xda app-developers app

Thanks but
Nice Idea
but what about the backup and restore did anyone try it ??
also what about Link2SD
I have installed a lot of programs in my second partition. Are they going to be deleted completely or I must delete them before flashing or what should I do ?

If you are flashing with flashtool, I think you can just keep the data and apps that are there, however, bugs are possible.

Which flash tool
Which flash tool do you mean is it sony emma or this http://www.flashtool.net/index.php ?

After running the script, you'll need to flash the entire FTF of 4.3 excluding system. In that step you can also untick "wipe data", that way you'll have all your app data in 4.3 with root without needing backup

It's Flashtool from flashtool.net, here is the tutorial for flashing if you need one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2697277

download Titanium Backup and backup your apps

Thank you all folks for your precious answers.
I did upgrade my system to 4.3 without removing my apps and this is how I did it
1- I used the ftf of 4.3 and as told when flashing I didn't choose to wipe data
2- When flashing using windows 8.1 update 1 64 bit I TOTALLY FAILED TO INSTALL DRIVERS , so I installed the flashtool on another machine running the 32 bit only and drivers were installed normally.
3- I did the flashing and during the driver installation my device started up ( I still don't know why , I did PANIC as the guide of mbc07 told not to start the device or else there will be bootloop) , I just stopped the device by removing battery then continued the flashing operation.
4- After the flash I took a long time to start and it upgraded and optimized my apps ( later I found out it was only apps at my internal memory )
5- APP2SD WAS NOT ABLE TO FIND MY 2ND (FAT) PARTITION , I tried many times to recreate or configure it to see it but in vain , Hence I un installed it and reinstalled it and THERE IT WAS MY 2ND PARTITION .
6- After rebooting all linked apps were there but ALL FAILED TO START ( ALL CRASHED) , hence I tried to reinstall all linked apps using LINK2SD ( my saviour )
And now I have a normally functioning 4.3 Sony Xperia M DUAL C2005 with full root , a 2nd partition and lots of apps

Xperia play R800i error! please help!

hi, I'll been looking through the forum for hours and was unable to really understand how to execute my issues. Therefore i have to create this threat to asking for help out of no choice ( I rooted my phone 2 month ago using zergrush method and recently I wanted to upgrade my busybox and I uninstall it before reinstall a newer version, but when I am uninstalling busybox, It stopped half way and say there's some program that stop it from uninstall fully, and then my root access couldn be granted to my busybox anymore and it couldn be install back to my xperia play again. so do my Titanium backup couldn get the root access from SU. but others root access software remain ok. I reformatted my SD card and phone hoping to get rid of the error but my system apps(screen locker, silence mode) is GONE! and the root remain in my phone but my preinstalled data gone. I decided to do a flash to reset everything but Im scared and unsure. any pros please do advise whjat should I be doing on this issues? thanks in advance.
These are the steps I took 10 times so far:
1.Do a clean flash of 2.3.2
2.Root your phone with Gingerbreak
3.OTA to 2.3.4
All Fixed!
4.Restore all your apps with titanium(if you didnt delete backups)
5.Install CWM for locked bootloaders
6.Do a Nand Backup if your phone is working correctly and save it to your PC
BTW just download busybox installer from the market and you dont have to uninstall it before update, just launch the app!

Or you could flash the proper Cwm for unlocked bootloader if it is unlocked. Don't think you need to be unlocked to flash official roms

ROM is very good good battery life in standby. But i have one problem with "Permission Manager" eg if some app need root access first time Permission Manager crash, but if i go to Permission Manager and allow that apps to root access (make rule) then everything is OK, that's is annoying only with new app requesting root permission first time, after create rule there is no problem I don`t know if only my have that problem :silly:

You can try SuperSu instead of the permission manager and it will work ok after that. Ohh and by the way shouldn't this post be moved to Acro thread ?
thanks for tip
P.S. If i don`t create this ROM it`s can`t go to Development section for Acro S, that`s why is here more info you find here: LINK
Flashed this yest. Works fine with locked bootloader.
The only problem is few apps are in chinese.. And even the clock widget has chinese font on it.. Any way to make it fully english?
And i noticed that my free ram is always low... Its always orange... Not much apps running at the background. Any idea?
And how do i flash GAPPS?
I install the zip from CMW but nothing at all..
for full English try select English(UK) language even if is selected in the phone settings and reboot phone.
For me google app works fine
Ok... If i want to flash GAPPS now.... Do i need to wipe data/cache/dalvik?
Sorry but wat are the apps in the GAPPS package?

no need to wipe data/cache/dalvik, Inside GAPPS is Google Search, Googla Play Store, Gmail, Google Talk, not sure about Google Maps ( available in Google Play Store)
Where you store GAPPS.zip file? in internal SD or external ? Some of CWM Recovery showing only internal SD

[Q] Low on space notification -- Please help me

First of all i am new to android, Thank god, i found this fourm.. I recently bought Xperia arc from my unknown friend. He gave me with Android 4.0.4 updated. After watching some Youtube videos, some guy told that Android 2.3 i best for gaming so i flashed to LT15i_4.0.A.2.368_Generic Global using flashtool by reading many guidelines.. After flashing successfully i still got this notification *Low on space" Note that even before flashing i got that. After googling it several times.
Solution said to install some apps, but that dint help... It says there is no movable app. And tried to enable the move to SD card button ->It says i need to root i tried Doomlord's app dint work. i deleted dome application cleared cache, force disabled, ut nothing seems to freeup spaces,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1488351
Even this link says on step3b, make sure there is no low on sapace notification, but how do i do it?
OK i decided to partition my SD card and move the apps, but i could'int download app2SD because i had no space. Please note that TEMPLE RUN is installing)but cant app2SD). Please advice me to clean up some memory. So that i can install some apps and make my android really work. Shall i update to 4.04 or gingerbread is fine. I am totally confused what should i do. Please help me.. :crying:
Thanks in Advance
Just do a factory reset then make a second partition on your sdcard and use link2sd. Problem solved.
Is factory reset and hard reset are the same?

You could search this for yourself http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1874801 or with pictures http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/38251 Its basically flashing an older kernel then running a rooting program on your pc then flashing back newest kernel.
edit
I think you need root for this mod.
AW: [Q] Low on space notification -- Please help me
sorry, i was at training, so i could not reply that fast.
well, rooting is allways a first step.
i did it that way: (short form only, if u want additional info's, just ask)
1. root
2. put a new rom + gapps on ur sd card
3. flash a prerootet kernel with preinstalled recovery which fits to ur rom
4. flash rom + gapps
5. reboot
6. connect phone to pc
7. backup ur sd card
8. delete ur entire sd card (thats why u have to make the backup)
9. reboot into recovery
10. wipe all
11. search for 'partition sd card'
12. choose ur values that u want
13. reboot into system
14. connect to pc
15. put all files back on sd card
16. download the mod and put in on sd too
17. reboot into recovery
18. flash the mod
19. wipe all
20. reboot
21. YOU'RE DONE!!
press thanks if it helped

You need newest CM10 zip file from here http://get.cm/?device=anzu&type=nightly and a modules.zip for your kernel.
copy these two files to your sdcard
boot into cwm
wipe data format system and cache
choose install zip from sdcard option and flash CM10 zip then modules zip
reboot

Modules.zip is inside of fusion kernel rar file : D No there is no risk in flashing wifi modules because these are just a files required for a custom kernel to work properly. I mean like a drivers in windows so the wifi can work.
Just remember to format system, data, cache partitions in CWM before flashing anything. And I forgot about this http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip these are the newest google apps for JB without this Play store, google maps etc wont work.

I was about to flash a new ROM so before that I factory reset (nothing went wrong) and format my sd card (it went wrong here)
At the Recovery, under mount and storage, i formatted everything, including the system :crying:
I thought it was something on the sd card, not the operating system :crying:
Now when I try to boot up the phone it just stuck at Sony logo
I have come so far just to screw it all up at the last step
Is there any where to install back the OS

Hi Just dowload any room from here put the sd car and install from the cwm .or try to recover from sony pc companion just do repair
Hi thanks for the quick reply
Hmm all my phone can do is stuck at Sony logo, nothing else
It is that bad, and for your info
It can't go into Recovery
My PC / Sony PC Companion is not able to detect it
Flash tool still can detect that it is connected
and by any ROM u mean custom ROM?
I have Speed ROM 8.0, not installed on my phone yet though
If I just install custom ROM I can get my phone back to life?
But first, I don't think I can install custom ROM / do anything when I can't do things I mentioned above
Download stock ICS and flash it using flashtool.
Thanks for the reply
Ok I will try that.
But how to flash a ROM using flash tool? It is possible? I have only used flash tool for firmware.
And all I can google is about how to flash a ROM using ROM Manager or Recovery.
Do you have link to any tutorial about this?
Edit:
Opps I found something about that.
Another question, is it ok to use any version of stock ICS?
I found Dovahkiin 1.2. Is it ok?
Or is Speed ROM 8.0 ok?

root , Injector(Init.d) and Mounts2SD - stock

hello everyone
so i just got my new HTC desire 816 dual sim ( after an old desire 816 which has factory issues ) . with the old device i installed CM11 the unofficial 4.4.4 and installed mount2sd and everything was good
now i got the new device and i'm a bit scared of installing a new rom , so i'm thinking of rooting , adding the injection support then installing mount2sd but i'm not sure about the compatibility of all this mix with the stock
so here what i'm going to do and i need your opinions
1- root the device => guide followed here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2775801
i don't know what the wp_mod.ko module do so any tips would be great
2- installing Injector to enable injecting the init.d support http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2256647
my device is not on the list so i'm a little bit scared :/
3- installing mount2sd https://github.com/SpazeDog/mounts2sd which i used before with CM11 and was fine
OR
A friend suggested that i install the new CM11 official and then install the mount2sd and done ??
ps* i'm using a lot of apps and i like installing everything so basically i need A LOT of storage for apps and their data and obviously the stock only gives 3GB which is nothing
ps* i kinda like the stock so anything other solutions with the stock would be perfect

The wp_mod.ko file is so that you can enable writing to the SD in the system on stock.
This is basically what allows mount2SD and link2SD to work and init.d support might be needed for both as well so pair that file with your injector and your good to go.
I personally am able to download and put any files I want to the SD thanks to the wp_mod.ko alone. Having init support will allow it to just run scripts on startup and in combination with the wp file it will allow scripts involving the SD card.

Make a NANDROID backup, try it, cross your fingers and give it a go. :good:

Only the apps and data that would normally move to an external card. What I can't move are the apps that Titanium Backup would force to external card. The easiest option would be to partition the external card with an ext partition and then use an app like Link2SD to mount it. To do that though, without S-OFF, requires that the OP work.
Even though I'm rooted, I don't have anywhere near enough knowledge to be able to safely*recover if anything goes wrong. ?

There is no S-OFF for our device, and if there was you wouldn't get it by flashing CM11 lol.

You can't! There is no way to S-OFF our device. You are stuck with S-ON. That's it. Unlocking the bootloader, flashing a recovery, and a custom ROM. Those all have nothing to do with S-OFF. Our phone simply doesn't have S-OFF.

Your screenshot shows you trying to install the Xposed Framework, not Mount2SD. Also, the screenshot shows (and the original topic clearly states) that if you're S-ON, you can't install Xposed Framework whilst booted. It is offering you to install through Recovery. If you click OK, the app will automatically boot into recovery and install Xposed Framework. If you had followed the guide about installing Xposed Installer, you would have seen to change the install option from Classic Write to Recovery. You would then bypass the message in your screenshot and gone straight to the install through recovery.
You must be rooted and have a working busybox and recovery installed for Xposed Framework to install/work.
Also, Xposed Framework will not make any bit of difference to Mount2SD or any apps like that. They will still not work. However, Xposed Framework does have some great modules that tweak a phone.
