[Q] Freezing and Terrible Lag On any ROM (Including Stock) - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

My S3 has recently been extremely laggy and will be unresponsive for up to 5 minutes at a time. Occasionally, it will reboot, but usually it will just freeze and stay there. I haven't installed any new apps and I kept an eye on my CPU temps and clock speeds. Seems like it is always running at 1.5 GHz whenever I touch the screen and stays there until the screen is turned off. CPU temps also reached as high as 69 Celsius and cooled down to a constant 47-50 Celsius (which I believe is unusually high).
I've ODINed back to stock NF1 and NH2 firmware, and the lag still persists. I've flashed SlimKat 9, CM11 M12, and it seems the 4.4 ROMs freeze more often than the CM12.1 0516 nightly I'm currently running, but all ROMs I use all freeze up. On 4.4.4, I used LeanKernel v9.16 with no overclock/overvolt and interactiveX. On 5.1, I'm using the stock kernel.
Could my hardware be damaged? I can't tolerate this freezing issue anymore, especially since each reboot drains battery and will lead to another hang 50% of the time. I actually contemplated tossing my phone against the wall.

Does it hang from a fresh flash without any third party apps installed? If so, then it is probably a hardware issue

Just flashed the CM12.1 nightly as a clean install. Ran all apps and did not experience any hangs, will do further testing to confirm the issue is gone. Seems like your advice worked and I should be ashamed because I troubleshoot computers and it's what I do/recommend when a computer is slow.

[Q] CM7.1, Defy gets utterly slow on occasions

This is the fourth occurrence, my Defy will randomly become unable to rotate, become slower than it ever has, and take 4+ seconds just to unlock/lock. The CRT screen is like molasses, and looks horrible when slowed down this much. The phone becomes useless in this state, and sometimes even a reboot will not fix it. It is overclocked ondemand. Typically, it is very responsive and everything except randomly losing an entire connection, works fine. I have been unable to pin point the cause of the problem, it's usually when I'm not even using the phone and it's been sitting there for a half hour or so.
I have had plenty of problems before with the phone, but none like this. This has happened only during my use of CM7.1.
Try wipe cache and dalvik cache
Motorola Defy CM7 RC 1.5 OC 1GHz
Which version you on?
Try updating to the latest one thats coming out today, or the nightly 111110
I sometimes get that with some nightlys, where its like slow-mo, and i need to pull the battery, sometimes still slow afterwards.

[Q] ARHD 7.0.2 "Phone" process keeping CPU at 100%

Hi everyone,
I just flashed ARHD 7.0.2 on my Desire HD last night and I'm experiencing the following problem:
The CPU remains at 99-100% all the time, the battery drains excessively fast and the phone gets really hot.
Using "Watchdog Lite", I detected that when the CPU does not stay at 100% (after a battery-pull), the "Phone" process uses 0,0% of CPU.
However, for some reason, after a while it will jump up to 80-90% and stay there, causing the CPU to go berserk.
I suppose the heat-issue comes from the fact that the cpu works all the time at 100%.
The battery drain issue comes also from the CPU.
However, I do not know why the Phone process would suddenly go crazy and use that much cpu - and keeps doing it until the battery is dead.
I'm thinking it is because the ARHD 7.0.2 ROM is actually a stock Sensation XL base and thusly requires another RIL than the one that was on it before that.
Before flashing another RIL or radio I would like it very much if somebody could confirm that the fact that the Phone process goes crazy like that could very well be linked to the fact that the RIL and Radio don't match.
It seems obvious, but I don't know enough of the inner workings to verify this, so therefor: this thread
Thanks in advance to all!
sstm
The RIL should be pretty standard between HTC devices so that shouldn't cause any issues. Did you do a full wipe before the install?
Hello TransientMotion,
Yes I did a full wipe, I even cleared the battery stats for good measure.
I even formatted my SD-card to make sure nothing remained from some app somewhere.
The phone is as if I'd have bought it fresh out of the store with ARHD 7.0.2 on it (and rooted of course)
It's just weird to see that the "Phone" process is using this much cpu, even when on Airplane mode.
Thanks for you reply,
sstm
It may be worth trying out an earlier version of the rom just to see what happens. I used 6..3.1 before I switched over to ICS and never had any major problems with it. If that works fine then try newer versions until you get glitches again or it works without the drain
Hey,
I just found out that it is Llama (kebabApp 'location aware' application) who is causing the problem.
Whenever I leave an area and then re-enter it, the CPU goes berserk and stays that way as if some loop can never be interrupted.
I didn't have this problem on ARHD 6.3.1, but I didn't have the same Llama configuration on it either so I tried the Llama config on ARHD 6.3.1 and it did the exact same thing: cpu 100% and slowness all over.
So conclusion: Llama config is the culprit.
Anyways, thanks for you help TransientMotion.

G3 lag and high temperature shutdowns

I've had my G3 since launch and it's always lagged really bad when I've been using more than 1 app at once e.g., listening to music and web browsing. The device reaches 95c and then shuts down so I've had to downclock the CPU to 1.9ghz to stop the shutdowns. With it underclocked, it lags even worse now and still reaches quite high temps (75c~) I'm still on a rooted Kitkat as I haven't had time to upgrade the ROM. Do the new 5.xx ROM's fix the lag? Does it still over heat when doing really simple things?
Hi,
When i was on the stock 5.0 (20h) i had a bit of overheating but never reached the point of a shutdown.
Now I'm on a custom Rom (cloudy 2.5) and i have no heating issues, and a very good battery life.
You can try flashing the latest KDZ for your device and test it. You should also check that you don't have a process eating resources running in the background.
For me the only application that lags is the phone/agenda. It is bad lagging when you have many contacts.
I hope it helps.

flash new rom clougyg3 v2.5...works wonders ....avoid task killers ...use system ui with expose installer if you want some customization...

95c? thats frying hot and not safe at all. I guess since you have had it since launch you cant return it. try custom roms and kernels and if it doesnt still fix, i d say go for another device.
assuming you are rooted and have twrp, you can try the ctt mod: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/development/thermal-mod-t2907363
worked for me and im on stock rom stock kernel kitkat(vs985). i just got on opera browser for about 6 minutes and the temp just sat at 55c and the power button is not even warm. before flashing the ctt mod i would start blowing at the back of my phone after 2 minutes of web browsing alone.

Apps slow to install on android 5.x.x?

I have noticed ever since I have started using lollipop based roms, the apps seems to install alot slower. For instance I had about 10 apps to install and I went to bed, when I woke up the next day it still wasn't done. They download fast, they just don't install fast like they did with kitkat. Has anyone else noticed this? If so, is there a fix?

Apps definitely install slower on lollipop. It has to do with ART vs Dalvik. Lollipop uses ART by default, where earlier Android versions used Dalvik, though kitkat did have an option to switch to ART. At a high level, on ART your apps will take longer to install because of some pre-compiling that has to take place. They also might take up some more room in your storage. However, they should open faster and hit the CPU a little less hard each time they open when using ART. Whereas on Dalvik some just in time compilation happened every time you started an app.
Not getting 10 apps installed overnight seems extreme. It sounds like your phone went into deep sleep and didn't work on the installation. Do you use something to try and aggressively force your phone to deep sleep when the screen is off, or revoke some "keep awake" privileges somehow? Also, if you use a CPU governor like interactivex that locks your CPU to min frequency when the screen is off, installing apps on lollipop will take a looooong time if your device is sitting with the screen off.

Should be longer, but all night seems excessive, perhaps it failed overnight or your phone went into deepsleep.

SM-G920P Random reboots

Hello everyone. I have a problem with one of my phones. This galaxy S6 started to reboot randomly. You can see how it reboots in the video below. The CPU temps are ok, i tested it in heavy load (usually stays at 60-80C in benchmarks, and below 60C under normal use, idle temps are 30-25). It doesn't crash specifically in heavy load, it can happen even in idle. I have tried different stock roms, full wipe of internal sd card, custom roms and nothing helped. Usually in custom ROMs the phone random reboots not so often. This phone is not water damaged and has not been dropped. Is that a battery failure or what it can be ??
Any help will be appreciated.
Video 1
I forgot to mention, reboots happen more often when battery is under 40%.
I have this problem too, I'm not sure if this will bump the thread, but if you ever solved this problem, I would love to hear how! I got mine used to idk the history. I rooted it as soon as I got it and the problem didn't start til a month or so later. I have tried two different roms and both seem to have the problem. It started with just the occasional crash when memory was loaded. Then one day it started crashing every couple minutes so I tried to restore from TWRP backup. The restore failed and it could no longer boot into the OS. I then flashed a new rom and it is currently trying to configure it (the flash worked) but it is still crashing randomly. It seems to happen every time the screen times out as well as randomly.
