I've had my G3 since launch and it's always lagged really bad when I've been using more than 1 app at once e.g., listening to music and web browsing. The device reaches 95c and then shuts down so I've had to downclock the CPU to 1.9ghz to stop the shutdowns. With it underclocked, it lags even worse now and still reaches quite high temps (75c~) I'm still on a rooted Kitkat as I haven't had time to upgrade the ROM. Do the new 5.xx ROM's fix the lag? Does it still over heat when doing really simple things?
Hi,
When i was on the stock 5.0 (20h) i had a bit of overheating but never reached the point of a shutdown.
Now I'm on a custom Rom (cloudy 2.5) and i have no heating issues, and a very good battery life.
You can try flashing the latest KDZ for your device and test it. You should also check that you don't have a process eating resources running in the background.
For me the only application that lags is the phone/agenda. It is bad lagging when you have many contacts.
I hope it helps.
Regards

95c? thats frying hot and not safe at all. I guess since you have had it since launch you cant return it. try custom roms and kernels and if it doesnt still fix, i d say go for another device.
assuming you are rooted and have twrp, you can try the ctt mod: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/development/thermal-mod-t2907363
worked for me and im on stock rom stock kernel kitkat(vs985). i just got on opera browser for about 6 minutes and the temp just sat at 55c and the power button is not even warm. before flashing the ctt mod i would start blowing at the back of my phone after 2 minutes of web browsing alone.

Hey guys,
i got stable hung ups in 3D intense games (asphalt5, dungeon hunter 3D, crusade of destiny)
some 3-10 mins of play and bang! you got complete stall - have to plug out the battery to reboot.
all other games (2D arcades, tetrises, arcanoids, pacmans) are working quite stable.
i've already tried almost all available ROMS (except stock non rooted one, btw - i dont want to update HBOOT to 0.8, full reset with wiping all the caches inc. dalvik and ext3 part before each ROM.)
pays ROM (several vers)
MCR r2-r3.1 (with richard's kernel either with OCUV or with OC only or without any UVOC and with original MCK 1.1 kernel)
amer_mod des final
all are behaving the same....
what the heck? My phone is generic and certified for Russia (PCT) and it's from white shipment.
the only idea i have is slow SD, cause i use the one which was with the phone - 4GB class2 SD.
please ideas? i wanna play some time not only tetris!
just noticed one moment. it happenes not only in 3D games, it also happenes when using the phone intensively, i.e. now I got stable instant reboot when using internal browser (even with pictures and flash turned off) and opera beta for android. the most interesting part is that just before reboot the back bottom part of the phone becomes noticeable warmer, let's say about 40°c and then instant reboot. (just as it is in 3d games) I use Richards OC only (no UV) kernel v14 with Max freq. set to 998 and MCR r3.1 (everything was wiped upon flash)
Re: Stable HangUPs in 3D CPU intense games on all ROMs
Maybe its some kind of thermal protection of the cpu?

i thought so too...
does any one knows some king of CPU thermal monitoring tool with logs for android?
Happens to me as well. The phone heats up like crazy particularly on badly coded games like the ones gameloft released. For example polarbit's armaggedon squadron runs perfectly well for any amount of time but realfootball for example causes the phone to overheat.
They really botched their ports.
just did a thermal monitoring with tempmonitor lite - but on Desite it only monitors BATTERY temp - it's about 32-33 degrees - so far i found no CPU temp mon which works. and still phone reboots during hard flash playing in about 10 mins with battery temp about 32-33 degrees. i also noticed an infinite boot loop when turning on the phone with AC plugged in. (it starting to load sense and just after SD card preparing notification STABLE instant reboot, though it may not be related)
will try to use stock ROM today (i still have the very first nandroid backup)
Try to uv without oc...should get the temps down.
Any of you guys still experiencing these problems? Have an untouched desire (sim free) that hasnt been unlocked or rooted and sometimes (although rarely) the phone just restarts itself.

UV only kernel reported to have some stability probs....
when u use OC only kernel and, as in my case, set up max. freq to 998 it literally means that you just dont user any OC. so overclocking is not the issue...

My phone reboots when I'm playing robo wars, when the battery is LOWish and Im charging the phone at the same time. No battery warning, just reboots. If I have a good charge on the phone, and am charging then it seems fine. This is NOT a lock up, like the original thread starter, but a straight old reboot... Annoying, but I dont play robowars when there is low charge from now on!

i got complete lock ups with only one game (heard rumors about it's bad coding style) the rest issues just reboots the phone. also i noticed that it reboots more frequent when using the phone and it's connected to charger simultaneously.
!!!UPDATE!!! 27.06.10
got back my Desire from the service after 10 days. They've changed motherboard (IMEI also changed) and no more overheating problems!!! HOORAAAY!!!!!!
It's working now even under high load!!!!
ok so im running the STOCK GB but im rooted and have been running gingertiny 9/29 ran into rebooting issues.. phone constently reboots after 20 mins of use. usually when this happened before like on stock kernels the battery temp would rise up to 104 but i kept eyes on the temp and it never goes over 78.4 F
not overclocking cpu im actually running at about 625 mhz but issue still occurs
SO with that being said i need help finding either a better kernal or trying to find solutions with this one.
i went back to complete stock and rooted to see if i still have this issue
any help will do thanks!
These questions belong in the Q/A section. This has zero relevance to development.
Now:
1) pull the battery then place it back into your phone.
2) Charge it awhile to make sure you haven't dropped a considerable charge during the bootloops.
3) Turn your phone on and move your clock speed towards 998400 (stock clock speed) via setcpu or however you underclocked.
This bootloop is likely due to you being underclocked so low. If you want, flash Tiny's latest kernel from 9/29/2011 to bring yourself up to date.
Was your min clock speed underclocked below the stock 245000? I had random reboot issues when I underclocked my min to 128000.
Having your max_freq set at 628 or whatever it was shouldn't cause reboot issues. You're phone should be rock-solid stable at a speed like that. I'd suggest taking a look at your voltages.
I've never run that kernel so I'm not familiar with what the voltage table looks like, but it might very well be that your voltage is too low. If your max_freq were higher, the transition through that clock freq would probably be too brief to cause an issue. I don't know if that kernel has sysfs enabled, but if it does, upping the voltage at that step .25 volts should cure it.
Min speed was at 628 even switching back to stock kernel still having issues I'm not sure what can be the issue I only last few mins playing any games or watching anything all speeds are stock

Sounds like it's time to start wiping stuff.
My One X (international version) face overheating which leads to restart
here is the common situation, I use my phone for watching videos, playing a game or web browsing, then I put the phone into my poket, after 10 minutes or so, I feel the vibration and finding that the mobile is restarting and it is hot in the back upper area (around camera lens)
that was happening due to some heavy gaming, but now even for the smallest tasks (viewing some pics for half hour), and in my pocket the restart, which could happen twice a day or so
I was using a leather cover and afterward did not use it, thinking it might keep the mobile from releasing its temperature
is that ordinary? I like HTC since My desire but now I think of selling it, lose some money and Buy SIII (I'm not big fan of Samsung though)
I'm on the stock OS not rooted
any thoughts?
Are you using a custom ROM ? You can also try downloading CPU Spy and see how your CPU behaves.

no I'm not even rooted the phone yet
Have you try to update the root with the last official RUU ?
Maybe It could help you. Versions 2.xx are better for this.
An other thing. It can come from a software running in background.
You can try to hardreset your phone and reinstall software one by one, with time between two installations to find wath app causing the problem. To see if your cpu work in background, install cool CPU or something else. You will see if the CPUs are busy while your on the home.
If you don t want to hard reset, you can try to uninstall all software, but I think it s less good.
Before uninstalling, try to find the application causing overheating with task manager.
Hope it s can help. Don t hesitate to thanks me
Stupid question but are you running at full brightness all the time (this heats up the phone).
Get hold of 'better battery stats' and check if any app is eating the battery

My Tab S 700 is overheating and getting terrible battery life. Does this even after reflashing.
Its over 30 days old, and is rooted and debloated, but still stock rom.
Can I still get it services under warranty?
What is my best option?
Should I unroot it?
Need some advice. Thanks
Check for CPU load and wakeups
It seems to overheat under normal loads, cpu at 1600ghz an up, loads 70 percent and up.
Battery life is ok if asleep, but awake barely lasts an hour browsing or playing game, if it doesn't lock up first.
I flashed thunderom. Battery is so much better after installing it and doesn't overheat no more.it might be some apps that you installed or may be the hardware. What apps have you debloated and installed? When you first got the tab s did it have these issues before? I would suggest deleting some apps or factory reset or flash a different ROM. It could just be apps that are running in the background that you installed.

My S3 has recently been extremely laggy and will be unresponsive for up to 5 minutes at a time. Occasionally, it will reboot, but usually it will just freeze and stay there. I haven't installed any new apps and I kept an eye on my CPU temps and clock speeds. Seems like it is always running at 1.5 GHz whenever I touch the screen and stays there until the screen is turned off. CPU temps also reached as high as 69 Celsius and cooled down to a constant 47-50 Celsius (which I believe is unusually high).
I've ODINed back to stock NF1 and NH2 firmware, and the lag still persists. I've flashed SlimKat 9, CM11 M12, and it seems the 4.4 ROMs freeze more often than the CM12.1 0516 nightly I'm currently running, but all ROMs I use all freeze up. On 4.4.4, I used LeanKernel v9.16 with no overclock/overvolt and interactiveX. On 5.1, I'm using the stock kernel.
Could my hardware be damaged? I can't tolerate this freezing issue anymore, especially since each reboot drains battery and will lead to another hang 50% of the time. I actually contemplated tossing my phone against the wall.
Does it hang from a fresh flash without any third party apps installed? If so, then it is probably a hardware issue

Just flashed the CM12.1 nightly as a clean install. Ran all apps and did not experience any hangs, will do further testing to confirm the issue is gone. Seems like your advice worked and I should be ashamed because I troubleshoot computers and it's what I do/recommend when a computer is slow.
