Hi all,
This is my first post to this forum so please be gentle. I've searched for and answer and I've read the FAQ. In the FAQ, the first question is:-
Q) Can I root my phone?
A- Yes, only if you have S-OFF
Now that HTC have released the Unlock Bootloader for this phone, is it still true that a Wildfire S can't be rooted while S-ON?
My main requirement is to be able to delete the pre-installed apps I don't want.
Thanks

If you have Unlock Bootloader you can root WFS with S-ON
So the FAQ is wrong!
Thanks btw.
s-off was the only way to unlock the bootloader, untill now that htcdev released unlock, which is actually unlocking bootloader, but leaving s-on for the sim lock...

FAQ isn't wrong, just not updated
Unlock bootloader via HTCDev allows you to root WFS, but it will be still S-ON
Is it possible to lock unlocked bootloader? I relocked it on HTC site and now it says RELOCKED, but I need it to be LOCKED. By the way bootloader is S-ON HBOOT 1.09.0099.

You could try SimonSimons34's Wildfire S tool, I think it can help with that, not 100% sure though. You can download the tool from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1576844&page=25
^The download link on the first page is down so just scroll down this page, someone was nice enough to re-upload it.
If it doesn't help then you're stuck with the RELOCKED sign I guess.. :crying:
Thanks, I'll try

You have to unlock the bootloader, no way around it. Have you looked into using the Sunshine S-off method? It will unlock your bootloader in addition to making your device S-off.

its not the problem to unlock the bootloader i can do that with the guide out there :good:
i have done this before but relocked it to send it back to dealer and seems there is no other way to root without unlock it again
If you're S-off you can put the phone back 100% stock, S-on.

I want to sell my phone and need to get it back to stock.
I´ve unrooted it with a Nandroid Backup+flashed a Stock Recovery and locked the bootloader.
But in the Bootloader stands: Software Status Modified.
I´m S-ON.
How can i get that away?

Hi, Passi0509...
I'm no expert regarding the M8, but I'm guessing your bootloader isn't actually showing as LOCKED but as RELOCKED.
(As I understand it, the bootloader has three possible states: LOCKED, UNLOCKED and RELOCKED).
From what I've read, in order to get it to show as LOCKED, you need S-OFF.
See here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708571
So maybe that has something to do with your problem.
Anyhow, I'm sure there'll be somebody with more expertise than myself to help you.

Ged.

RELOCKED instead of LOCKED will not result in the "software modified" status.
Additionally, I don't recommend the OP do s-off just to make it LOCKED; as I do not believe this will change the "software modified" status.

A nandroid you made before rooting, or one downloaded from the nandroid collections?
What is your CID and main version number (OS number on bootloader screen)?
