Yes, I understand the Official Froyo maybe more stable since it's more updated and complete than the leaked Froyo in custom ROM. But really is it worth the upgrade?? What I mean, when you upgrade to official froyo you will loose your root, and possibly a new updated radio that would maybe need "Paul" time to hack again. Without the root, it may not be possible to change to different ROM. I am pretty sure, once those official FROYO is out...there would be lots of different custom ROM MOD based on Official FROYO available?? Also looking at my past experience with HTC, once this official 2.2 update is available, they wont update very often anymore. It maybe better to stay with custom ROM since those cooks tend to get newer system kernel somewhere. I guess for me, even if the update is out, I will just wait out till someone make new custom ROM based on this official FROYO? cheer...that's just my opinion.

Most, if not all people will be waiting for a rooted version. I'll be amazed if people unroot just to get it, when it'll be modded in no time. The test release by udk is a prime example.

Gingerbread
Agree with the original poster's sentiments. Also worth considering that this could very easily be the last major update for HTC to roll out to the Desire. There's already a newer generation of devices out and HTC have no incentive to keep us at the leading edge. I got a clear taste of this with my previous HTC Magic - dropped by Vodafone like an unwanted toy once they started selling newer devices. Thankfully it was completely unlocked and I could flash all the custom ROMs on that which I liked but since it was a 32B if I had gone official and somehow ended up there I'd have been left behind at 1.6.
I "upgraded" from Hero (which I liked pretty much) to Desire about a month ago, and it's still unrooted. I rooted and installed a custom ROM to my Hero (a couple of weeks before the official 2.1 came out) and I was far from impressed. It became slow and laggy, the available RAM was way below than on the original 1.5 etc. I assume that I should've try other ROMs as well but at a certain point I just got tired so I switched to Desire. I love the way it is. It's fast, responsive and I enjoy all the possibilities of the hardware. I can even impress my iPhone friends with a little smile on my face.
The guy I sold my Hero just updated to the official OTA 2.1 a couple of days ago. Guess what? It's flying! I wouldn't believe it if I couldn't see with my own eyes.
I love what you guys do here. I really do. I'm amazed and impressed with all the work and effort you put in these custom ROMs. I'm reading all the interesting threads, tips, tricks etc. It's good to have a place like this board. It's good to have full control over our handsets, install software others can't. But I kinda like the way HTC puts together and tests its ROMs even if it's bloated with stuff I'll never use. I'll check for updates every hour this weekend Cos I'm eager to try all the new features. Maybe later I'll switch to a custom ROM which is based on the official, but for now I'm focusing on the "Check now" button
even though it hurts to say so.. but I agree

Why would it not possible to root back after unrooting? Since rooting is now riskfree...
What I would like is a standard final realease, rooted and A2SD+'ed, thats it, no other mod`s.
as long as froyo doesn't modify the hboot to a new version, you can always rollback and unroot.

Because the leaked froyo came with a new HBOOT (which was removed by devs here) which at the moment is unrootable. And may be unrootable forever!

Agreed, I finally took the plunge to root and A2SD, the latter of which is amazing Is it really too much to ask for, just to install apps on the SD?
I will wait for Froyo Official-based custom ROMS!

So if someone buy a HTC desire after the update he may not be able to get root ever. Lucky us!

I highly doubt no one is ever going to be able to root if they officially upgrade to 2.2. It will happen, it might just take a while that's all for Paul and co. to do it..
I think that all of you that says that the new Hboot could not be hacked, underestimate many very very skilled peoples knowledge. Just because it isn't cracked now, it not equal to *incrackable*.
I am very certain that it will be cracked or something else and then root access can be achieved again.
I decided to wait to see the lay of the land instead of diving in for the OTA update, and after seeing all the issues people had with the Market and then not being able to gain root access and green cameras amongst other things, I'm glad I did.
So now I believe it's safe. I'm already running Pay's 2.2 with Sense, but a few things don't work in it so I'd like to go to the official HTC build...problem is every chef has to ADD their own little flair to every ROM they release. I don't want extras or Arabic or Chinese or edited host files or to have half the apps removed or random dev apps added. I just want the exact ROM released by HTC, but rooted.
I can't find it community..maybe because I'm stupid. Can you help?

Found exactly what I was after at last:

+1 As well. I would like to flash a simple stock ROM that has all the HTC bloatware removed. I don't do stocks, facebook, twitter and so on but haven't found nothing yet. I guess the Devs need to to disect the official ROM, a bit more waiting then.
I guess i better start looking into rooting my Desire via Unrevoked to enable me to flash the ROM when it becomes available.

From what I've seen you can get that sort of thing easily. It's the reverse I was actually looking for. I DO use most of the stuff HTC ship with their build, apart from Teeter and Plurk, but every ROM I've seen goes to the pains of removing almost everything I use!
I use the froyo sense ROM from the open desire team which has the minimal mods but it sound like this is the one you're after...

Yeah thanks, found it just before you posted. Appreciated anyway.
hello all. this is my first time ever setting foot in the incredible threads. im currently a roooted eris user, but recently upgrading to the incredible due to eris's limitations. i should be recieving one in the mail today hopefully. i have a few quick questions for you guys and im hoping i can get answers today or at least before i start rooting my phone.
1) can titanium backup restore all my apps + data and configurations, that were backed up on my eris without any issues?
2) which rom is the best so far? i was enjoying cm 6.0 port on my eris but i prefer sense now because im not much of a fan of stock vanilla look.
I do enjoy the 360 degree rotation and was wondering if anyone has created a sense based rom with that particular feature or does cyanogen have a monopoly on that one?
3) does metamorph work on the incredible? and are these roms available now currently themable
4) which is the most preferred kernel? ive read so far about hydra kernel and kingx, what are the advantages each have over the other
5) in case of a necessary warranty exchange attempt, is there an ota based ruu rom available to restore the original bootloader? in other words is it unrootable as of yet? (eris users are currently able to do this.)
Oh and i forgot to ask.
6) is the 2.2 ota released for upgrade or are the 2.2 roms available right now leaks?

1) Most likely not, while just restoring apps should work, apps+data may bring about problems because they are different phones. don't quote me tho. (My advice make a nandroid before you restore apps+data then if you get FC'cs you'll see something went wrong and can go back)
2) The most popular ROM on this forum seems to be Skyraider, it has both a sense and vanilla version. There are 3 more fairly popular ones on ROM manager, I advise you to test them all out they all have their own flair.
3) Yes, check out the theme's section for more info on that.
4) Both kernels work well, it's all a matter of what you're happiest with. I'm not sure of the specific differences of both tho, so maybe someone else can answer that.
5) If you use Unrevoked3 you can RUU back to stock yes. If you use Unrevoked forever (which is S-off) there is currently no way to get S-on. So you would just have to hope if you turned it in for warranty that the guy didnt check the bootloader.
6) Most 2.2 ROM's right now are based off a leak released here on 8/1/2010. There is no official 2.2 release for the Incredible.

Hi,
Can someone help me find a ROM as-close-as-possible-to-stock ROM that has removed (or able to remove) all the Verizon Junk and other forced apps (ie Blockbuster). Fully functional and bug free would be ideal; also an active download link as well. :fingers-crossed:
I'll probably mess around with other ROMs but I want a stock like one to have.
FYI: I just received a NEW-IN-Box replacement DINC2 to replace my dying 2year old DINC2. I'm not renewing and am stll happy with this phone. I rooted my prior phone (ERIS) so after some reading I'll be flashing like a pro again.
Thanks In Advance - I hope!
NOTE:

2.1 Sense

How about this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1392516
or this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1737494
?
I've used andyBONESTOCK briefly before.
But for my wife's phone, I just HTC dev unlocked it, flashed recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-vivow.img and used that to install UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.65.zip. Then I installed ES File Explorer and deleted the Verizon crapware.
Installing ROMs is a bit more complicated without S-off, but I deal with that if and when she's willing to try something other than stock.
So I've never rooted a phone before but I want to start.
I bought this old Droid Incredible from ebay and am trying to get basically the most up to date version of Android on it. I'm doing some app development so something that is as up to date as possible is nice.
I've been reading all the different posts and whatnot on how to do this. However it seems that half the links are dead because the posts are 2 years old.
So if anyone can help me with just some steps on how to root my phone and put one of the most updated ROMS on it I would quite appreciate it.

Here's an excellent guide for rooting the Droid Incredible:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1600904
You only need steps 1 through 3 of that guide to get root and be able to flash custom roms, though if you want to go the whole way and disable the secure boot flag on the radio, you can follow the guide to the end, it works.
The latest stock rom is Gingerbread. There are newer custom roms, the newest one being this one, which is kitkat:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2579031
This build of Jelly Bean was pretty good:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2050930
Finally, if you run into dead links in your search for a particular file for the Droid Incredible, scour this site:
http://dinc.does-it.net/
Hope that helps. Have fun!
