Hi,
I downloaded an OTA-update for T-Mobile (CID 111) and want to backup this file before installing the update.
But I can´t find the location of the OTA-file. On my old One M7 the OTA was located in downloads - but this is not the location on my M9.
Were is the OTA-file-location?
Thx Nem.

I´m not rooted yet, thats why the data-partition in ES-Explorer looks empty.
Bevore rooting I would like to update the firmware (because s-off is not yet released). And (this is more important) I would like to have a "original" recovery-backup. Otherwise it may be difficult to go back from twrp to stock in case of sending the phone back for repair.
Is there any way to pull the OTA-file from the data-partition (maybe with adb?) Or can I mount data as read only to copy the OTA-file?
Thx Nem.
I found a solution:
With "adb backup -all /data/data/" I got a backup.ab on my computer. And with Android Backup Extractor I decoded the backup.ab to backup.tar. Then I got my OTA-file "OTA_HIMA_UHL_L50_SENSE70_TMO_DE_1.32.111.15-1.32.111.6_release_426744.zip".

Slight update to the path: /data/data/com.htc.updater/files/
On M9 Dev Edition: /data/data/com.htc.updater/files/OTA_HIMA_UL_L51_SENSE70_ATT_MR_NA_Gen_Unlock_2.8.617.4-1.32.617.30_release_439080.zip

Hi nemesis01,
Will you be able to point me to the right direction?
I'm trying to mimic what you did with the Htc M9 but can't get the same out come.
Here is what i did.
"adb backup -all /data/data/ -f C:\backup.ab"
After that I used the unpack with Android Backup Extractor
"java -jar abe.jar unpack backup.ab backup.tar"
After unzipping the Tar, only a directiory called "Apps" inside.
Couldn't find anything with OTA in it.
Lend me a Hand =D

i have the file but i cant update the device using adb sideload the error shows that signature not verified and installation abort.
Hi, I've talked of this before. The firmware update, I tried returning to stock then attempting to update the firmware through updating the software OTA but that failed no matter what I did. I returned to stock, flashed the stock recovery, and even locked the bootloader. And finally I attempted an RUU but the RUU failed. So now I lost all my data in vain. I rooted the phone again and reflashed it to Insert coin android 4.4.4, ect.. And I currently am really tired of this. Isn't there any way to get through this? I want the new Insert Coin Lollipop but I have S-ON and cant update the firmware. Can someone please help me? It would be really appreciated. Thanks for reading this lousy comment.

I don't know anything about Insert Coin. But if you want stock lollipop from Rogers, you could restore a Nandroid backup via TWRP.
For a start, post your fastboot getvar all (without serial no. and imei no.)
Then most probably the nandroid that ikeny mentioned is the right backup.
I'd be more worried about the RUU failing - I wonder what the error code was?
If OP's M8 was Rogers branded, CID ROGER_001, then RUU from Rogers never existed in the first place. Perhaps this explains the error.

Yes, that would be correct. That's my first assumption. Although do you have any methods to update my firmware to the latest android 5.1 lolipop?

I'm actually kinda wondering, is there a method to update to lollipop without returning to stock? I don't have S-OFF so I cant update the firmware alone. All I want is to update the firmware somehow and then I'd be able to use the latest Insert Coin Lollipop Rom. Although thanks a ton for that link, I'll use it as my last resort.

So just a confirmation before I get started, I can just restore this backup despite being in a custom rom at the moment? And will this erase all my data on the phone such as media, ext...? Thanks man, appreciate it a lot.

Yes, and yes.
If you want future OTA, replace TWRP with the attached stock recovery as the final step.

Hmnn...Thank you very much. I appreciate it a lot. So now that I have downloaded the last link to the first post which named "Rogers_5_0_1.zip" I just have to backup all my media, apps, ect...Then I can restore the lollipop backup, root the phone, then install Insert Coin 5.1. And I'm also assuming the data being wiped is absolutely unavoidable.

After you unzip the file, you will get the TWRP nandroid image. This image is a 100% stock, and all your files and apps will be wiped. Unavoidable. You could follow the second post in the previous link for rooting. Beyond that, you are on your own.

Hi, I unzipped the Rogers_5_0_1.zip file and it came out a folder named "2015-02-05--12-39-33 LRX22C release-keys" and an img file named "recovery.img." Do I just copy the folder to my backup TWRP folder then ignore the img file? Sorry for being really annoying and asking a lot of question, I just wanna make sure I'm doing it right.

You don't need the img file now. That was the stock recovery, for later, if you want to replace the TWPR recovery.

Stock recovery alone will not let you update your phone. you also need an untouched system partition. do you have that ?
The update should be located in data/data/com.htc.updater/files .. you need root to see this partition
The RUU for your phone is here >> https://mega.co.nz/#!LglThKDY!twq1btwcGbXB25DsC6WfQe0kmXWmd6pExLdiwk_Mi0k
Did you get this sorted?

Hi all,
Ive been trying to find the stock recovery for my m9 in order to install the latest OTA since I have flashed TWRP recovery and have not backed up original recovery.
Right now im downloading the RUU 0PJAIMG_HIMA_UHL_L50_SENSE70_hTC_Asia_AUS_1.32.710.16_Radio_01.01_U11440261_56.02.50306G_2_F_release_427214_signed.zip
Hoping to extract the recovery img and flash. My software version is 1.32.710.16. Optus Australia
Any info on how to go about returning my recovery back to stock would be appreciated.

Why didn't you just flash the RUU? Would have been the easiest solution if you already downloaded it since the M9 can only install OTAs if the system is completely untoched (=not rooted) and mount as read-only.
Nevertheless if you're still looking for a method to extract files from a RUU (no matter whether it's a *.zip or an *.exe): Download latest 7-Zip, install it and right click on the RUU file > 7-Zip > Open (the second option from above) > #. It may take some time to open the RUU but then you will find what you need if you open the archive 2.zip.

That should be what you need, I came from a test build for Nash and used the FlashAll zip (RET specifically) from that site to take me all the way back to stock., Hence why each zip is ~3GB uncompressed.

There should be a NON_HLOS.bin in that folder, if im not mistaken a fastboot command posted here should fix that, but i should mention that i have not done this myself and can not vouch for it. maybe someone else has a more (for a lack of a better word) trusted way to fix your issue

I'm having the same issue. I've downloaded every 2+gb zipped XT1789-04 factory reset zip I can get my hands on. It says it's flashing a modem, but I still get no baseband when I go into fastboot. no wifi or cell signal. I've tried the commands linked above after flashing. If someone has a solution I'd be eternally grateful.

Thanks but NO GO .
I ran into this problem attempting to root the latest Oreo OCX27.1 and got into a bootloop. The only Oreo firmware available to download isis the previous OCX27 and I believe that downgrading to that causes the lost of baseband and imei. I am waiting to see when OCX27.1 will be available to download so I can try to return to stock to 27.1 see if it restores my baseband
The problem i am seeing is that none of the stock firmware are for ocx27.1. they are all for ocx27. i have seen an ota update that is for the ocx27.1 but i have not figured out how to extract it yet
