Hi, I've talked of this before. The firmware update, I tried returning to stock then attempting to update the firmware through updating the software OTA but that failed no matter what I did. I returned to stock, flashed the stock recovery, and even locked the bootloader. And finally I attempted an RUU but the RUU failed. So now I lost all my data in vain. I rooted the phone again and reflashed it to Insert coin android 4.4.4, ect.. And I currently am really tired of this. Isn't there any way to get through this? I want the new Insert Coin Lollipop but I have S-ON and cant update the firmware. Can someone please help me? It would be really appreciated. Thanks for reading this lousy comment.

I don't know anything about Insert Coin. But if you want stock lollipop from Rogers, you could restore a Nandroid backup via TWRP.
For a start, post your fastboot getvar all (without serial no. and imei no.)
Then most probably the nandroid that ikeny mentioned is the right backup.
I'd be more worried about the RUU failing - I wonder what the error code was?
If OP's M8 was Rogers branded, CID ROGER_001, then RUU from Rogers never existed in the first place. Perhaps this explains the error.

Yes, that would be correct. That's my first assumption. Although do you have any methods to update my firmware to the latest android 5.1 lolipop?

I'm actually kinda wondering, is there a method to update to lollipop without returning to stock? I don't have S-OFF so I cant update the firmware alone. All I want is to update the firmware somehow and then I'd be able to use the latest Insert Coin Lollipop Rom. Although thanks a ton for that link, I'll use it as my last resort.

So just a confirmation before I get started, I can just restore this backup despite being in a custom rom at the moment? And will this erase all my data on the phone such as media, ext...? Thanks man, appreciate it a lot.

Yes, and yes.
If you want future OTA, replace TWRP with the attached stock recovery as the final step.

Hmnn...Thank you very much. I appreciate it a lot. So now that I have downloaded the last link to the first post which named "Rogers_5_0_1.zip" I just have to backup all my media, apps, ect...Then I can restore the lollipop backup, root the phone, then install Insert Coin 5.1. And I'm also assuming the data being wiped is absolutely unavoidable.

After you unzip the file, you will get the TWRP nandroid image. This image is a 100% stock, and all your files and apps will be wiped. Unavoidable. You could follow the second post in the previous link for rooting. Beyond that, you are on your own.

Hi, I unzipped the Rogers_5_0_1.zip file and it came out a folder named "2015-02-05--12-39-33 LRX22C release-keys" and an img file named "recovery.img." Do I just copy the folder to my backup TWRP folder then ignore the img file? Sorry for being really annoying and asking a lot of question, I just wanna make sure I'm doing it right.

You don't need the img file now. That was the stock recovery, for later, if you want to replace the TWPR recovery.

So i've got a rooted S4 Mini running on stock firmware (4.2.2) and i want to upgrade to 4.4.2.
I've got a few questions about the procedure... What can i do to keep my contacts and text messages? I don't mind the apps much because i can install them again but if there's any way to keep those i'd find it helpful.
Also do i need to make a full backup before? And if so how should i do it?
My phone has the stock firmware from the carrier i bought it from (MEO - Portugal) and the only Portuguese 4.4.2 firmware i found on the samsung website is from Vodafone... Is that a problem? Is there a way to remove everything Vodafone related from the phone after i install it? Will my MEO sim card still work?
Final question, as the phone is rooted, will i need to root it again after?
I know it's a lot of questions but if someone could please help me i'd be very appreciated! Thanks

To backup your appdata, text messages, contacts, mobile data statistics,.. use Titanium Backup. Dont you sync your contacts with Google? But since your are simply upgrading an official firmware a backup shouldnt be necessary. ´But to be safe make a backup
A Full backup is done by flashing a custom recovery. Look for the thread here in the forum, where this procedure is explained.
If the new firmware will work with your simcard, I dont know since I'm from Europe where the firmwares are universal. For this case you have a full backup to restore if wont work.
To remove bloatware, again, use Titanium Backup.
And yes you have to root again.

Since I am in the same boat is there anywhere a procedure on how to do upgrade. Mine is also rooted and has 4.2.2. Not sure about CW or anything else. Guess I can do upgrade by loading firmware on flash card then power the device off and press volume down + home + power for a while? Once in download mode just point to file and let it go?

Unpack the zip and delete the .dll file. You only need the .tar.md5 (I suppose it had this ending).

I doubt that any stock rom will flash with twrp recovery....in the past with oppo phones (n1, 7a) its always needed stock recovery to flash stock roms...I guess we just play the waiting game until someone can upload the boot image from the updated rom. I'm pretty sure flashing that alone will get wifi back up and running. 07 Or if someone has the stock recovery they could upload....I am unsure if you can just rip it directly out of the rom and flash it....Also on oppo forums they have posted the rom for 5207 I am also unsure if you can flash that to the 5206.
The zip in that thread is images to flash in fastboot?
...
I would think you would have to flash each image individually.... system, boot, recovery ....unless if we start by flashing only the unmodified boot.img to see if it will fix wifi....but i doubt it because i suspect the wrong boot image is what screwed up wifi in the first place...someone please correct me if im wrong

Yes, you're right; the boot image is not compatible with the upgrade; so downgrade to get root. I'm working on trying to upgrade again with the OTA upgrade and then getting the new boot.img and rooting that. More soon I hope!
FYI I tried your images, Lum_UK and found that I couldn't flash boot.img with fastboot, BUT I could dd them from within recovery, so I got myself up and running again.
Yes you'd have to flash all the images by hand one after the other.

I have no idea what it changes as it's the firmware my International N5706 was shipped with when it was released last week. It may be different to the US model (though I believe the only difference between the two is the baseband) and is definitely different to the N5707 for Chinese users.

Hi there, I'm using Hong Kong version of htc10, i tried to root it but when i flashed supersu and xposed arm64 sdk23, it comes to stuck in the system ui interface showing that: 'System UI has stopped unexpectedly....etc.' Looping in that point. So i tried wipe all data in twrp mode and reboot again, still the same situation. Then I download a TW version of stock IMG which is 1.30.708.1(Original was 1.53.708.4) and flashed it in download mode, after that i rebooted it, everything is normal again. Fresh new welcome screen.
But there are some features that i can't use such as can't receive 4G+ signal, can't receive VoLTE, even could't use battery saving mode ....etc.
So I just want to know where can I find the STOCK IMG for my HK version CID HTC__622, which is 1.53.708.4 or so called RUU for it? Thanks.:crying::crying:

the working link for the download is on the next page.
this is definitely the HK rom as after a wipe the default language is HK Chinese.
only problem is OTA does not work and when trying to manually flash the OTA manually (using TWRP and stock recovery) the check on the OTA zip passes but the system check fails so it looks like system has been modified.

I have the T-Mobile HTC 10. I never converted it to US unlocked or anything. When I got it, I unlocked the bootloader, installed custom recovery (TWRP) rooted it, and slapped on a custom ROM (LeeDroid). I have a nandroid backup of my stock rom. I'm still S-ON.
Now I find out that T-Mobile has FINALLY pushed the firmware update. How I can easily upgrade the firmware on my phone?
What I tried was to backup my leedroid, restore my stock rom, and then take the update. But I got the corrupt file error.
No idea what to do now. I saw someone had a file of the OTA update (downloaded it), but I don't know what to do with that, or even if I can as I have S-ON.
How can I easily get to rocking the new firmware on my T-Mobile HTC 10?
Thanks!!

Thanks, very helpful!
Everything worked great until actually applying the OTA update in recovery. It wouldn't do it, saying the update was for PMEWL devices, and mine is PMEUHL. I definitely tried to use your OTA update file that you posted in another thread. Any idea what this is all about? (Seems WL is a reference to another phone, maybe US unlocked. So perhaps this is the OTA for US unlocked, not T-Mobile US? Or it's really for TMO DE?).

I'm getting the same error unfortunately. I have USA T-mobile HTC 10. Does anyone have a solution for this or are we USA T-mobile folks doomed to wait for an RUU?

Well, you're S-OFF and I'm S-ON. I don't know if that makes a difference or not. Thanks for your help by the way

Yea I was gonna ask.
It might make a difference being s-on but wondering if u tried to update firmware from the signed firmware?
I was running into issues flashing the Ota but eventually managed to to get it to work. Here's exactly what I did.
Place the Ota file on the root of an SD card.
On your PC, Pull the recovery image from the firmware zip within the t-mobile OTA file and place in the ADB folder.
In twrp, go to Mount, and mount system as read only.
Then, select Restore and go to your untouched system backup. The only two options that should be checked are System IMAGE and Boot.
Reboot to Download
Flash the stock recovery pulled from the OTA.
Reboot to Bootloader, then boot to Recovery
Select install from SD card and select the Ota file.
For me, it did seem to hang at "patching system" or something like that, but be patient. It did complete loading.
Hope this works for you

Hi guys. I need ur help on this one .
I've had the m8 since new and first things I did was unlock bootloader to install custom roms. The phone was never s-off !
So, I've been having connectivity problems and I have to bring it in to have it looked at. But my current provider(Eastlink) won't support rooted phones or phones with custom roms. So since last night I decided to put it right back to stock and update it. This is where I ran into problems and the problems I've found are most likely what is causing the initial connectivity problems.
So I restored my original nandroid backup, flashed original recovery and went to do the ota update which will update the phone to MM. But when it flashes the OTA it always comes up with a (status 7) installation aborted with this message ... (see pic) something about was expecting build fingerprint of htc/Rogers_wwe but mine has htc_europe.
Also, there is no OS version in bootloader(see pic).
Any help would greatly appreciated.
Thanks
You restored the wrong stock ROM and/or wrong stock recovery.
OS number missing is a symptom of using a very outdated version of TWRP (known bug).

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking that it could be a wrong stock recovery but the stock rom is a nandroid backup I had taken when I bought the phone.
THe version of twrp I've been using is twrp-3.0.2-0-m8.img

I see you've had the device a long time, and unlocked bootloader right away. So you had an older version TWRP at one time, which wipes the OS number. Updating to a new TWRP does not fix the problem. The only way OS number will show up again is if firmware is installed by flashing firmware.zip, RUU, OTA, etc.

Also I wanted to mention was that I'm pretty sure I had the stock recovery which was on my computer with the htc m8 stuff since Jan, 2015. But that one doesn't seem to be working. But I could be wrong on that. It could be from a different phone now that I look at that folder more closely.

What's the software number (phone Settings>About>Software information>More>Build number) now that you restored the stock ROM nandroid you made previously?

I'll check as soon as the phone boots up. But I think I may have found the problem with recovery. I'll post results back soon. I think I was trying to flash the stock recovery with the bootloader locked. Long night ... :\
Update: Build number is 4.20.631.3 CL463267 release-keys
Going to try the ota right now ...

Your recovery version is wrong.
It expect recovery version 4.20.631.3 or 6.13.631.7 but you installed 4.20.631.2

Hopefully that works ...

Did not work. Apparently this recovery was for a Telus device. I need a Rogers recovery.
Anyone have a link to one that's required ?

Hi ckpv5,
I installed one of ur stock recoveries 4.20.631.3_recovery from ur collection, and now I am getting this error while doing the OTA.(see attached pic).
Any ideas ?
Update ...
I decided to go and flash the firmware.zip file from within the OTA file. It flashed ok and I now have an OS version in the bootloder.
But now it won't go any further then going to the bootloader, which I have to force into. Goes to black screen.
I then tried to flash the OTA file the same way "fastboot flash zip RUU.zip(renamed) and it fails to flash. So now I am soft bricked.
Never been in this situation before and need some advice please !
Solved!
After flashing the firmware from the OTA zip file I forgot that everything would be wiped. So here's what I did ...
1. Unlock bootloader.
2. Flash recovery.
3. Restore nandroid backup.
4. Boot up then shut down and flash proper version of stock recovery.
5. Relock bootloader.
6. Install OTA !
Thanks guys for all ur help
