Im looking for One M8 S-OFF making but really confused. I used European M8 with latest lollipop update. Firewater discontinues s-off making. So can anybody tell me which way is the S-off making up-to-date. thanks for your help.
Sunshine......Has been covered a lot already, if you have had a read at the firewater thread you would have seen it links to the SUNSHINE exploit

I'm currently rooted via the HTC Dev. method which obviously means I'm S-ON. I keep having to flash the boot image of the ROM every time I restart/reboot the phone which is really annoying. So I want to go the whole 9 yards and obtain S-OFF status. I read the comprehensive thread on the matter and I'm a little confused and quite apprehensive about attempting it. Is there a newer or more updated method out there? Here's some info on my phone:
HTC Dev unlocked with S-ON
HBOOT-0.98.0000
ROM: MIUI.us_vivow_1.12.30
Thanks in advance guys,
Eric

I assume you mean this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1751796
I didn't use that one, but what I've read from others is that it is easier than it sounds if you just take your time and follow the directions exactly.
You'll have to relock your bootloader first I believe.

No, I just did mine before this method was available. I don't believe it was any easier.

Yeah dude prototype spent a lot of time getting all the info together, so I recommend that thread usually. Just go step by step and you will be thankful you did. Good luck.

I want to root my DHD. I had downloaded AAHK (zip file) few days back when the link was working and AAHK was not retired. Would I not be able to root and S-OFF my phone using AAHK now?

You can still S-OFF your phone.
After a while, the script might (if needed) try to download a PD98IMG file. When it gives an error simply google for the filename (might be PD98IMG-GB2 for example) and place it in the PD98IMG directory AAHK created. Everything should go well. I S-OFF'd my Desire yesterday.

Sorry KirovAir, but if the people you are advising to use the Hack Kit get stuck due to not following instructions or some other issue, will you support that? Because let me remember you that the Hack Kit is no longer supported nor here or in the IRC channel. Don't you think that what you are advising is dangerous and might leave quite a few fellas with their phones in a blank screen?

Sorry! I forgot to mention that using the Hack Kit is completely on your own risk and unsupported here! (and probably anywhere else..)

Thanks for the information!
I had also read about 'Easy Ace Root Tool' in dev forum. But I have a question regarding that.
- It says that only Custom ROMs can be installed, not Ported ROMs. What is meant by 'ported ROMs'? Will I not be able to install, say Sabsa prime or Venom's ROM(which are ported from One S and Desire X), if I unlock bootloader using Easy Ace root tool?
Also, does it support flashing 4ext recovery?
could you please tell me at least which version of aahk you used? already found in the web PD98IMG-GB2 and i am willing to do the proccess... already red many forums about rooting my desire hd. but since you did that proccess already i think you can give some reliable tips even if this topic is unsupported here. i know that discussing about aahk is unwelcome in the xda forum and i am sorry for this but i think you would agree that its the way with the most chances of success. or anyway could you suggest me any another way to follow?
thank you for yoour time

Unlocking the bootloader will allow you to flash any recovery that is for the device (DHD / Inspire 4G), Custom roms built from source (CM) and modified sense roms work great. Ported roms I am not sure, but you can try it out. In the worst case scenario, you might get stuck in the splash screen and you will have to flash a different one.

No, Hack Kit is no longer supported anywhere. If you are willing to do it, you are on your own and will have to find information about it somehwere else. There are other ways to root or S-OFF the device that are supported here. So, please let the Hack Kit rest in peace.

definitely i would prefer a way through xda furums since its the most trustful, helpful and updated site!!!! but pls... there are more that 5 suggested ways in the forum from 2010 till 2011 or early 2012 and some files needed to be downloaded no longer exist. moreover, above the topics many people explain that had problems during rooting and s-off proccess..could you suggest me one of these as most efficient... its not that i cant do it but i need a guide by following exact steps since i am not a programmer of android. sorry if i am asking so much but im reading for more that a week forums about rooting and s-off dhd and i am really confused with the difficulties this phones has. (i have 3.0sence with 2.3.5 gb, but i bought it on froyo version if this could help)

You don't need S-OFF to root. You can just run this and you will be just fine. You don't have to be a programmer to root your phone, just do a little reading and searching will suffice.

Now that we can temproot with sunshine 1.7. I tried Firewater after getting temproot, got a message from firewater that said HTC patched the firewater method. Is there anyway to unlock/s-off 4.10.605.3 other than java card?

AFAIK not yet. Jcase will update sunshine once S-Off is available.
i dont think their will be any other s-off exploits posted here. Sunshine will be it unless someone else comes up with an exploit other than jcase and beanups

And jcase already said he's got s-off/unlock working just fine, but wants to wait until another phone needs it too, because he doesn't want to release just for one device.

well that just sucks, when is another device going to need it? even though there are people wanting it now for the m7
jcase doesnt do this for us, he finds the vulnerabilities and reports them for a living. im pretty sure he is waiting on HTC to patch this current vulnerability before releasing it, giving HTC or any OEM to get it fixed before public release.

If you don't use Sunshine, the only option is a Java card/clip. They're fairly expensive, although there are some users who are willing to share their hardware to help other users who live nearby.

Ye, the only way without sunshine would be with an xtc clip or Java card, and they are expensive.
On nougat, unlock your bootloader, flash twrp and follow these instructions https://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/general/guide-htc-one-m9-nougat-downgrade-s-off-t3554665
to downgrade to marshmallow and run sunshine. Then, you would be s-off.
That's the only accessible way unfortunately, unless you know someone with a Java card or something?
Hope this helps,
Jev
Thanks for all your answers!
I've already rooted my phone succesfully on S-ON, I just want to have S-OFF in case I want to install custom roms on my mobile.
I'm just a bit mean that I'm not willing to pay 25$ for just making my phone S-OFF..
But as I'm reading your comments it seems like there's no other way getting S-OFF.
You are aware of the fact that S-OFF has nothing to do with the capability of installing custom roms, aren't you?

Don't trust everything you read on the internet, lol. You read bad info. Maybe somebody just quoting old guides, or asking the same question as you (does firewater still work).
Keep with reputable sources, such as XDA members with reputable ratings.
