Not since 2014. Seriously folks, why are you trying to still use firewater?

Don't trust everything you read on the internet, lol. You read bad info. Maybe somebody just quoting old guides, or asking the same question as you (does firewater still work).
Keep with reputable sources, such as XDA members with reputable ratings.

have u tried it?
they guys from unrevoked tweeted the response already, it dose not work.
And considering HTC's track record on updates you will have a hard time rooting again if you update to official froyo
It's up on HTC now: http://bit.ly/cCiIQu You *will* lose root. We have no root for this. Repeat: no root. Enjoy

The message is chilling "We have no root for this."

no, but the hboot is différent, i have read and compare the code with hboot 0.80.
Guide: downgrade hboot using an older ruu and hacked misc and root again. Presto.
so it's best to stay rooted instead of updating to the official froyo?

Hi, Im planning to modify /etc/hosts,
Is there any way to do this without S-OFF / HTCDev ?
Thanks,
S-off it is not possible in HOX for now.

Yeah...follow any one of the many guides on rooting the One X. We don't have S-OFF. Did you read anything before asking this question?

Is that possible to gain temporary-root without having through htcdev.com ?

It's not possible at the moment.
How about TacoRoot ? Anyone try ?
I know this works on my oldie stock/factory desire,
and TacoRoot claims to be "HTC Universal Root Exploit 12-30-2011"
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/unlock-virtually-any-htc-bootloader-without-voiding-warranty/
i found this but haven't tried it just read the post
If they worked on the One X we would know by now. The One X has been around for a few weeks and to date there is no way to get S-OFF.

the OP isn't after s-off, just root/unlock without going though HTCdev site.

He's welcome to try any tool he sees but I am not game especially if there's a risk of bricking the phone.
PS:
The utility is for a wildfire S CDMA, makes me more cautious using it.
Now that we can temproot with sunshine 1.7. I tried Firewater after getting temproot, got a message from firewater that said HTC patched the firewater method. Is there anyway to unlock/s-off 4.10.605.3 other than java card?

AFAIK not yet. Jcase will update sunshine once S-Off is available.
i dont think their will be any other s-off exploits posted here. Sunshine will be it unless someone else comes up with an exploit other than jcase and beanups

And jcase already said he's got s-off/unlock working just fine, but wants to wait until another phone needs it too, because he doesn't want to release just for one device.

well that just sucks, when is another device going to need it? even though there are people wanting it now for the m7
jcase doesnt do this for us, he finds the vulnerabilities and reports them for a living. im pretty sure he is waiting on HTC to patch this current vulnerability before releasing it, giving HTC or any OEM to get it fixed before public release.

SUCCESS! worked like a charm. whole process was done in under 10 minutes. didn't have to connect it to my computer at all. well worth the money. best developers in my opinion.
works with 4.10.605.3 ota update!
Im looking for One M8 S-OFF making but really confused. I used European M8 with latest lollipop update. Firewater discontinues s-off making. So can anybody tell me which way is the S-off making up-to-date. thanks for your help.
Sunshine......Has been covered a lot already, if you have had a read at the firewater thread you would have seen it links to the SUNSHINE exploit

Read the site, the rootninja....google that and all will be clear.
I been searching for like a day now..
i didnt wanna make a post about...
I dont see any stickies on how to do it..
My phone is rooted, checked with root checker app, I have su
and the treads i found seem to be outdated and not working..
Uninstalled HTC sync before I tried firewater way..
tried Sunshine app... it cost 25 dollars to use it ... so rip
Do I have to downgrade to kitkat to do the firewater s-off way?
Reason why I want s-off is to use AdAway/Adblock.. for my phone
