Hello all! Ive just recently got my Xperia arc, and flashed a nightly build of CM7 on it, number 20. Everything seemed to run smoothly, but just now screen started to behave very weird, it almost seem to have osme kind of "ghostly" second touch.
The upper part of the screen is almost impossible to use, when I try select an app to move it on the screen, by holding finger down, it just flickers for a second and gets deselected. If I manage to select it and drag+hold, it starts spazing out all over the screen, with screens switching between eachother by it self.
The problem is especially noticeable in games, where you usually have a joystick controller in bottom left corner. When using it, I usually trigger the buttons above it in the upper left corner which I am no where near at with my finger.
Is this a ROM issue, or hardware issue? Ive been using the rom for couple of days with no strange to it, and now this happens. Any ideas what the source can be?
ROM failure.
Sorry for bump, but apparently the problem remained. I changed to XDA rom, which too is based on CM7 thou and after a day I stumbled upon same problem of ghotsly second touch on screen.
I cant hold to move apps, cant precisely press a button in game on left side of screen, it then triggers some other button nearby. I do get haptic feedback from long press on a homescreen, but the "add new" menu popups only every few tries Any ideas of what may be causing this? I would really like to avoid the hassle of resetting the phone and sending it back for repairs :/
try stock one or miui.
It sounds a bit like your screen had a bad encounter with water...
Could this be the case?

No, this phone is only few days old.
I think I am noticing a pattern.. screen behaves this way only late evenings, till next morning. I never noticed the issue during the day, but then it was there again for no reason after I left phone for couple of hours (it's past midnight here at the moment). Now when I think back, same was previous two evening, issue only noticeable during late evenings. Could my phone be possessed lol?
It's quite weird issue too. Upper half of the screen seems to have a ghost touch as I said. When trying to add a widget to upper screen, I only get a haptic feedback from long press. When playing games, all buttons on left side (landscape mode) get activated as soon I press one of them. Most weird of all, is that screens works perfectly in app drawer and settings, but not in app/homescreen. I will test how it is again tomorrow and report. If it works just fine again as if nothing happened I will be really puzzled.
Currently on CM7 Xda version, same was for official version. I am considering updating to MIUI, just gotta figure this radio difference stuff, but am becoming sceptic to whether this issue really lies with ROM and not app/settings.
Yep, issue is gone like nothing happened at the morning, this is is haunted ._.
I've figured the cause, it only happens when the phone is plugged in and charging. Beats me why thou, what remains to see now is if it is tied to the kernel or not. Posting it here in case others with similar problem stumble upon the thread.
Are you using the stock charger, i used to face bit similar problem when i used to connect my old HTC USB charger... later i discover the HTC charger was giving only 500mA , where as sony one is rated at 700mA.

Thanks for the tip! Turns out it didn't like my 1000mA charger I am using for all my usb stuff, but the stock on works perfect (it's 850mA).
I've been using my s4 for about 10 days. everything's fine but it has happened like 3 times the phone just shut off itself without me touching it. it's in my pocket, and i was using it like 5mins ago, then when i take it out i found it's totally off already.
the battery had enough juice at the time and the phone didn't feel too warm either. i totally have no clue why this happened. anyone here is experiencing the same thing with your s4? :crying:
for the first two time i can just press and hold the power button to turn it back on. but today when it happened the third time, the press and hold didn't work until i took out the battery and put it back. when it's on, the battery still had like 70% power.
this is frustrating... should i contact t-mobile for an exchange?
p.s. i rooted the phone and from what i can recall, besides titanium backup i didn't install any new app that i didn't have on my old htc sensation. the sensation didn't have this random shutting down problem. (i don't think the titanium caused either).
It used to happen on my s2. But I change roms and it went away.
Change rom and see what happens.
If possiible go full stock for few days.
Otherwise return it.

I've had my phone since the 2nd. Not 1 error or reboot. I've also been running cm nightlies for the past week as well.

..
One question did you install the flash player app from the web
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda premium
i didn't install the adobe flash player, nor did i install a different rom. everything is stock. i fully factory reset the phone once and after that i even didn't disable or delete any bloat ware. but the random shutting down still happens... annoying

Mine has done the same thing twice, first time assumed it was me (before the latest firmware upgrade which "improves stability") the second time it was in my pocket, took it out and it was off - thought battery was dead but tried to switch it on anyway and guess what, battery was 90%+
Have no idea why it shut off - stock rom, only "odd" app is Good for enterprise .
Could it be related to overheating in the pocket?
Anyone got any ideas?
W.
Happen to me and to some other Italian guys, too! In my case, the I9500 turn off itself, sometimes reboot itself, just now! Depends from the rom, I don't know why. One rom reboot it, try another rom and after a bit of second shutdown it. And always after tha the display go off
I9505 not, it had only the problem of the audio crackle, for now.
I am also having this issue , please if someone can help...
I am having an i9500 (octa core version) and running United Arab Emirates 2013 June 4.2.2 I9500XXUBMEA I9500OJVBMEA firmware (stock , no root) , frequently when the phone is locked it will shut down on it's own and I have to keep the power button held a bit longer than usual for it to start (like 20 seconds) , I do not want to root it because the company I bought it from is not that...good....so I am very afraid of sending it to their service department , please , any info/suggestions would be greatly appreciated
There is some update about this problem?
I have stock, randomly turns off, sometimes I have to take out the battery to turn the phone on.
It's the only problem I have with the S 4, for the rest is the perfect phone

I found out that if i put my phone in the loader it shuts off... Maybe battery problem..

Sutting itself down
Hi
My S4 is randomly shutting itself down when in my pocket, can you advise how to rectify this situation please?
Thanks
Ok so i may have isolated the cause. at least a physical one. I am an electrician, and i do a LOT of repetitive tasks so i love listening to music while i work. thats when i noticed a pattern to the problem. and this will blow your mind.
( I do not recommend you try this yourself unless you particularily like the sound of 700$ going SNAP)
i took my phone out of my pocket, and by pressing both thumbs on the center of the screen and physicaly bending the phone forward, ( Dont give me crap for this, im smarter than most and i understand limitations. I was impressed that this phone can bend nearly a full 1/8th of an inch!) i was able to replicate the problem.
My theory is, since samsung used a softer plastic for there entire frame, and since the phone is so thin, when ever id bend down, (Pulling pants tighter across my thigh with the phone facing my leg) it would bend and physicaly seperate the metal pins that contact the battery.
PS: just got home, DGAF about spelling right now. is it this hot for anyone else right now!? lol

I've been running the GT-I9505G play edition phone for the last month and only in the last week has the phone began to reboot on its own. What's strange about it is it usually happens when I'm not using the phone. I've seen it reboot maybe a dozen times over the last week. The phone always reboots and doesn't just turn off.
I'm going to see if factory reset takes care of the problem, if not I guess back to Google for a retread...
Thanks B
Yes I do a lot of bending down and I always have my body in awkward angles while working on the flight line and I used to have the same exact problem at work. I always thought that my S4's shutting off was due to the tiny half a mm gap between the bottom of my 7500mAh ZeroLemon Extended Battery and the bottom of the phone's battery slot, in-turn causing the battery to move inside my S4 and make the battery disconnect from the pins. I noticed a tiny gap in the fitting of the battery to the phone and that the battery was never really snug as much as it was with the 3500mAh Anker Extended Battery for my S3; it's really easy to remove the ZeroLemon battery and thought the battery shouldn't be easy to remove.
So I figured it was either the gap causing it to shut off or my movements somehow causing the power button to be pushed while it was in my pocket. I had a feeling it couldn't be the latter though because the thigh-located cargo/map pockets of my ABU's are a bit too large to not have enough room in the pocket for the power button to be pushed. I ended up solving my shutting off problem by cutting a very small piece of thick, durable paper the length of the S4's battery slot and I used the paper as a shim between the bottom edge of the ZeroLemon battery and my S4's battery slot to close the miniscule gap. Since I did used a thick piece of paper as a shim, I've yet to get any sudden shut-off's... even with the amount of times I bend down and move in ways that would cause it to shut off.

I just recently have same issues, it is turning off while the battery is not dead! i have tries to reset the factory setting but it dose not help at all.
what frustrated that Samsung mobile costumer services in UK is not helping much!!!
any help please
if your phone shuts off and than you try to restart it and the battery is a lot lower than before than your battery is broken
I get exactly what you describe, only takes a slight bend to shutdown. doesn't do it with the back cover off, without the cover the battery moves out slightly and the phone stays on.

Happened to my 8.4 Tab S once. Haven't figured out yet what caused it. It was basically after an OTA. I rebooted the tab and haven't seen it since.

Ok guys.... read this....
100% -70% in 40mins. (Listening to Music and surfing web)
70% - 50% in 20mins. (For no reason)
50% - 5% in 25mins. (Played game and installing apps)
Off it, plugged charger to it. Was surprised that it shows 48% instead. Let it charge for 2 hours. Was 87%.
On it up. Accidentally pressed the Launcher option instead of Touchwiz Home. Restarted it.
Battery shows 68%, and drop to 47% in just 3mins...
This is what I'm encountering most of the time... any ideas as to why it is like this?

Got this same problem before wherein my battery acts nuts. it would suddenly jump off from a certain percentage just like yours, sometimes, it Would show 1% and will shut itself off. Then when you turn it on, it will have at least 30-40% left. Quite annoying. Tried all battery wipe tips here. To no avail, until someone advised that he pried the back cover off only to find out a loose battery terminal . I did the same (carefully) removed the connector and reinserted it firmly. Discharged the whole battery using the tablet to around 5%. Turned it off and charge it to 100 without touching. Now it last for 2 full days (2days 10hrs) under normal usage and i'm using it as my primary phone. Listening to mp3s via bluetooth willshave off 5% in 2 hrs (with at least 20 sms sent). Playing movies in full brightness will shave off 10% (standard 2hr movie)
Before: notice the sharp, perpendicular drop - and the pulsating voltage on the last part of the graph
After: more than 5 hours, no percentage drop
Normal use, yeah, i dont use it with screen on most of the time, i simply listen to music via BT. and always on wifi
Else. If it's under waranty. Try to bring it to your service center and have your battery connector reseated for you

I DIY'd mine so it's possible. You need a prying tool (the one that looks like a guitar pick) simply start from the buttom (where the UsB port is) and make your way around the tablet. please be advised that some of the clamps run towards the center of the tablet so you may need to stick in your prying tool deeper. Just be careful and take your time, and try not to break any of those locks/clamps.

No warranty sticker found on mine. Prepare a double adhesive tape since some of the back cover part (near the IR blaster) is held by a non-fixed adhesive. Just be sure to angle your pryer towards the back cover and be careful not to wreck any of those clamps

Heh... i ald broke one clamps. Lol!!! Anyway i realised something. The battery connector (in the pic i posted here now), the metal connector which is out of the box, is connected to the mobo. But i had to press it down. If i don't the tab doesn't starts at all. Is there supposed to be anyting there to hold it tight between the back cover and the part there?

check out for blockage or any thing that hinders the wires to sit properly with the board. when i lifted mind before, there's a small chunk of plastic material the broke off the connector and went straight to the board where the connector is suppose to sit, i removed it then i sprayed contact cleaners on the wire-terminals before re-seating it on the board would you be able to take a photo of your board/contacts?

i am on my way home. will be back in 2 hours time. what i can tell u is that i had to put something on top of the box connector so that when i put back my back cover, it makes contact to the board. if i dun, my tab will never turn on....
1st pic: As u can see, i accidentally broke one side of the holder.... lol!!!!
2nd pic: Even thou it looks like itz touching, actually itz not. No matter how i try to it just wouldnt touch.
3rd pic: i have to fold a small piece of paper to make it as a tightener between the cover and the connector to make it connect to the board. The one that does not connect properly is the left side.
If problem still persist i guess i really got a defective battery. Will get a replacement when spare parts are available on market. I don't wanna spend fortunes on samsung repair center.

same problem ?
I think I have the same problem.. I'm just scared if it is because I rooted my device...
I have bought a otg cable to connect my ps3 controller to my tab s . That's drained my battery in a record time but I wasnt thinking it was problem.
I played with my ps3 controller and tablet until it shutdown iteselft. I plugged my tab on the wall right after and it shown 45% ... I restarted and sames battery life was showing. The app I used is sixaxis enabler.
I let it charge up to 90 % and watched movie. The battery drained quickly too..
Will do somes tests to be sure if it is normal or not...
Ah before to forgot I watched movies before and the battery seems to have decreased quicker.
Hey All
Today I picked up an HTC One M8.
Have set it up and only had it up and running for a few hours.
I plugged it in to charge using the charger that came with it and noticed that the screen would become erratic. Phantom touches would register making it very hard to use. Have tried it in different sockets but the issue remains.
I have tried a spare charger that I have in the house and the issue is not present.I know the HTC charger is a little different in that it supports some kind of quick charger, so its not really a like for like swap I guess.
Is there a chance that the included charger is faulty? Or could the phone be at fault?
I really don't want to have to return it but will it it looks like its the phone that has an issue.
Thanks
Well, at this point its hard to guess from here. Can you upload some snaps/videos ? It would be helpful for anyone who visits the thread. It doesn't take much time either. :good:

Yeah it's brand new. Phone is fine off charge and when using other charges. It's just the stock charger tat seems to cause issues.

Do you have a case on your phone? I have a UAG case and the charger sometimes doesn't fully click leading to that behaviour. Without the case there is no problem using the phone while charging.
Maybe the stock charger is faulty. Probably the wires has lost continuity.
I have the same issue with a unofficial charger (2.0A).
No issue with original charger (1.5A)
You are not alone
I also have a HTC One M8 with the same problem!
I have to disconnect the USB cable so that I can use the phone correctly without 'phantom touches' activating things I didn't want.
A classic example is pressing the back button will more often than not take me to google now. It's not supposed to do that. It only ever does this when charging.
Also when using any app the phantom touches will activate things I didn't want it to. Some apps will indicate which button you clicked and this is the perfect way to see this problem in action, because buttons will be clicking that you didn't even touch.
It's almost like the touch screen becomes ridiculously sensitive and even just a touch of breeze from a fan can activate a phantom touch.
My phone has done this since brand new. I've had the phone for around 3 months now. There was a software update since I had the phone and it didn't fix the problem.
It does this for me with the stock USB cable, samsung USB cable, generic USB cable, charging from AC/PC/Car it doesn't matter.
It even has the problem when the battery is at 100% with the cable connected.
The only way to accurately use the phone is to unplug the cable!
I'm in Australia on the Telstra network
Android: 4.4.3
HTC Sense: 6.0
Software: 2.23.841.1

Erratic Touch on Verizon HTC One M8
This has been driving me mad.
Got Verizon Variant Red HTC One M8 near the beginning of August.
I bought a spigen clear case, a longer usb cable, and a 2AMP charger to use at work. I was chewing through the battery while playing Clash of Clans on it at work.
I pretty much always turn on visual feedback for touch on my smartphone now and noticed sometimes while playing Clash I would see multiple touches go in a horizontal line across my screen (if you do not know you play clash of clans in a horizontal position so technically the lines would run vertically down the phone)
I also have a tempered glass screen on my phone so I figured it was some kind of freak nuance with the case pushing the glass or something.
Bought a UAG Case for my phone, few days later I notice the same behavior, bought cases have a small "lip" to protect the screen if you drop the phone face down, I again figured this must be the culprit and bought a new case.
Barely there Clear case by casemate, I have had the case for 3 days and today is my first day at work since, immediately upon connecting my charger I noticed the erratic touch behavior.
At this point I realized it was never the case, it has to be something with charging in general or the specific charger I am using.
Anyone got any clue what is actually causing this issue?

Hi guys, any news?
I'm experiencing the same issue and this is driving me mad.
Experiencing this with different chargers. My cover is a Spigen Ultra Hybrid Metal Slate...if I put it off, theres no problem while charging
Greetings from Switzerland
Hi guys,
I have faced the issue as well. In my case, if I charge the phone using the dot view case then the touchscreen behaves wrongly. However, if I charge the phone with no case at all it works fine.
Anyway after I flashed the latest firmware (.401.6) the problem is gone. What firmware do you have?
Cheers.
Hi Guys,
For anyone interested, I have just noticed that it happened depending on the charger also.
Cheers.
I have the same problem
Using htc one m8 developer edition 4.4.2. This issue comes with every charger. With or without case or screen protection.
Yep, I've noticed this issue as well. Any solution?

Yeah it's brand new. Phone is fine off charge and when using other charges. It's just the stock charger tat seems to cause issues.

If it's brand new, take it back for a replacement. The sooner the better because the longer you wait, the more they may think it is user caused.
I just got my phone replaced due to bad mic. I had a brand new one on release day and now I got a refurb both suffered the same issues. It's not always that it does it but it certainly pisses you off. Same symptoms as the op describes, I have yet to find a permanent solution.
This is so super irritating. I feel you. I just found out though that it occurs when I have my case on.. So whenever i use the phone when I'm charging I have to pull the case off. It really doesn't make any sense lol but this is my workaround for this bug.
I also have the same problem
It seems to occur when the phone is close to full charge. Every app goes crazy. When I unplug the charger it returns to normal.

I have the same issue with mine; I found a website which said to do the following:
Using two fingers swipe down on the status bar then touch the gear icon > Display & Gestures > G-Sensor calibration
Place your phone on a flat surface then touch Calibrate.
After the calibration process has finished tap Ok.
You should also calibrate the finger touch on your screen to deal with the keyboard issue.
Open “Settings” and go to “Language and Keyboard”
Tap “HTC Sense Input”
Tap “Advanced”
Tap “Calibration tool” (Calibrate your screen for a better touch experience)
Now you are asked to type the given sentence
One done, Calibration Complete message appears
Hit “Reset Calibration” to reset screen to factory default

It's still present, but it hasn't been as bad - I turned on the visual feedback in the developers settings, and you can watch the cursor fly all about the screen like it's possessed!
Same issue here, on the latest software. This is my second m8 with the same issues.
hi guys,
I have learnt a lot from xda and had been using this site for all of my android issues and mods. This is just fabulous.
So, I have been using my Note 1 0.1 since a couple of weeks and it's battery was acting in a funny manner.
PROBLEM
Sometimes it played well down to 60% from a full charge , then down to 15% in a minute and then down to 4% in next 5 minutes. Then i would restart the tablet and watch the battery suddenly having around 35% battery. THIS WAS SO WEIRD.
I used many battery calibrators from play store but none of them worked.
SOLUTION
And then out of frustration, I pulled out the back cover, took out the battery connector, and then placed it firmly, back to its place. switched it on used it for couple of minutes, and noticed the battery percentage. restarted, YAYY! same battery percentage. used it again, restarted, checked again. did it more often and noticed that the issue was solved.
CONCLUSION
The connector of the battery on the main board gets loosen up with time (maybe) and there is interruption of current transfer.
therefore the battery gets it's funny character.
HOPE I SOLVED YOUR PROBLEM, CHEERS!
Hi,
i have the same issue...
is there anybody tried this and can confirm this solution?
I also will try it.
More information
I tried to do what you suggest, I opened the tablet and found this:
can you please explain what to remove and how? Thank you
Lift the tape where the two back ribbons connect, release the clamps, remove the ribbons and reinsert them firmly and replace clamps and tape. That is what i did. Been having this problem for months! Will report back when i drop below 50. That is when all my problems start. Really hope this works!! Thanks for the help!
Update: I am sad to report that I am still experiencing the same problem.

I think this is wrong. In my suggestion the power connector is the white one in the middle with the red and green cables. Just remove the tape and lift the connector upwards to you.
I think the other two black ribbons are for the USB port and for the mic or so.
It worked for now. The battery consuming is extremely better then before.
I hope this solved the issue.
merry Christmas to all

I apologize i left that part out but yes i did that as well. I would like to see others people's results as well though.
Or is it a rogue app?
I've been having the same, infuriating issue, including the CPU getting really hot.
I reflashed ROMs over and over, with and without formatting data, I went back to stock, flashed different kernels...OMG, the amount of time I have wasted is frightening.
I'm finally trying the following and it seems to be working:
- full wipe, reflashed Hyperdrive 4.1, as per his instructions
- on boot, waited 10 minutes and rebooted.
- after reboot I didn't allow ANY automatic updating and I started reinstalling apps one by one.
- battery life has been stable!
- And now I may be on to something! Yesterday, after updating the following 10 apps, the same crazy battery performance reappeared. Then when I uninstalled the updates to these 10, the battery life returned to normal and not acting crazy:
- Dropbox
- ES File Explorer File Manager
- Gmail
- Google
- Google Keyboard
- Google Text-to-Speech
- Google+
- Maps
- Papergarden (Tab S)
-Samsung Link
I'm going to one-by-one see which one induces the crazy battery performance.
Watch this space...
UPDATE: I think it's Samsung Link...when I updated it, the same f****ed-up battery behavior came back! I think I found it! Woo-hoo! Woo-hooo!
I`m having this issue too, got bored changing roms and kernels, KK or LP still no result.
Battery drains much faster on gaming like Dead Trigger 2. 100% to 20% less then in one hour. If browsing and watching videos or doing other stuff SOT is nearly 4-5 h. Besides, when boot into recovery, battery percentage always differs from ROM one and never matches to it. Didn`t try yet method in OP, but anyway, I`m interested in this NewPower99 Battery replacement kit. Did anyone test it?

I would be interested, but since we have three months lefts until Mobile World Conference in March and we could see the Note 10.1 2015 or Note pro alongside GALAXY S6.
Solution
I take the tablet to the samsung and the problem is the board, they had to change this part.
