[Q] Google Play has stopped working. - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've looked through the other threads on this issue, and I've not found an answer that seems to apply to me.
I've just installed the latest version of TWRP (2.8.5.0) and the latest version of CyanogenMod, and now I get an incessantly recurring message that "Unfortunately, Google Play has stopped."
I've cleared the data. I've cleared the cache. I've uninstalled updates for Google apps. None of those fixes have worked.
I've done a factory reset, which makes the problem go away initially, but as I try to download apps, I get through maybe one or two, and it comes back.
Help?

I've gotten a similar problem but with Viper Rom 4.3.0 and instead it happens with almost every Google related app and a lot more other apps that I use.

I think I MIGHT have this fixed. At least, I've been able to install multiple apps, so far, without this issue recurring.
I Booted into Recovery (TWRP) > Wipe > Advance Wipe
In Adanced Wipe, I selected the following partitions:
Dalvik Cache
Cache
System
Data
I let that do it's thing, then I reimaged CyanogenMod, I reimaged Google Apps, and I reimaged the SuperSU binaries.
I booted back into the system, and ... so far, so good. Hope it stays that way.

Tazz, I'm still going strong with the solution I posted above. I hope it helps you, too.

Thanks for the heads up, I will probably reflash a new rom

[Q] Installed CyanogenMod updates no connection to Play Store

I was running cm-10.2.1 and last night I installed CyanogenMod updates cm-11-20140104-SNAPSHOT-M2 and cm-11-20140210-SNAPSHOT-M3. Several of my apps either quit working or disappeared. When I clicked on Play Store to try and re-install the apps, I got a message of "No Connection". Searched the problem and several people said to delete the Google Account and re-install it. After deleting it, the phone will not let me recreate it. When I click on Add Account and then the Google symbol, nothing happens.
Is there solution to fix this? if not, can I just re-install 10.2.1 and fix it?
My phone is an AT&T SGS3.
Thanks,
retnuh
Re-flash GApps, that has happened to me before, and this is what fixed it.
As LittlePalmTree stated, sounds like you need to reflash GAPPS. Make sure you grab the one compatible with cm11. cm11 is android 4.4 where as cm10.2 was 4.3 if I am not mistaken.
Thanks for the help. I tried to re-flash the gapps after reading the first reply but before reading the second reply. You guessed it. I did it wrong. The phone would not get past the spinning circle screen. Ended up using CWM to re-flashing the rom stored on my phone and also re-flashing the gapps stored on my phone. So, I'm back to version 10.2.0, but at least my phone is working again. While I would like to update, I'm afraid I will mess my phone up again.
Thank you for both of your replies.
Googled the problem and found a few solutions from the simple - force stop/clear cache - up to full factory resets.
Different things seemed to work for different people.
Tried the force stop/clear cache and check time/date is correct (which causes some people problems.
Then I tried removing my Google account and adding it in again. However, it wouldn't let me do that until I re-flashed GAPPS. Did that and it all works fine now.

[Q] !!! Bunch of google play errors on every restart !!!

I have been seeing these bunch of errors (screenshots) at every re-start for the past couple of days. I am running Viper Rom version 2.5.
I tried to run the GPE rom as well but i get the same errors on that rom as well. Not sure what the issue is but nothing is broken apart from the weather app/widget not able to find the current location. It just shows 'current location' instead of the actual location. But this does not affect the Maps at all, it pin points my exact location on the Map.
Can anybody help with this?
Sounds like a dirty flash, did you do a factory reset? A factory reset should fix that.

Yes i did a reset and clean flash. Still has the same issues.
I'm having the same issue on viper 2.5. Never had problems before. I even followed steps to convert play store from user to system app and downgraded play services to the latest 5 version, in which everything works well, cleared data/cache/defaults, uninstalled and reinstalled market. But every time I reboot it updates to version 6 and the problems begin. I even used disable services app to prevent it from updating, but still happens. Any help would be appreciated. (Forgot to mention that all apps work well but with constant error pop-ups)
Glad you wrote this. Been having same problem a UK rom debranded m8. I get the same errors restart but google play is popping up saying there's been a problem followed by a goggle services popup. I narrowed it down to either news and weather app or me just getting a new car and syncing with it. Filling in a zip code made the errors less. Still annoying as hell. Either latest google play update borked things or news and weather is causing a big fluke like it has several times in the past.

[SOLVED] Facebook install/upgrade under Open Beta 8 (Nougat)?

Hi,
I'm having problems installing the Facebook, Messenger, and Amazon Kindle apps from Google Play Store after switching to Open Beta 8 (Nougat) and doing a clean wipe. It basically hangs at "downloading" (doesn't download anything), then gives me the error 492. Is anybody else seeing this (or not seeing it)? Installation from Titanium backup works, but then when I try to upgrade, I get the same results.
Thanks.

Can be an issue with playstore, try clearing data and cache of Playstore and installing/upgrading them again.

Thanks, I forgot to mention that I tried the all the usual clear cache/downgrade Play Store/Play Services advices. At this point I am mostly wondering if it's an issue of the Open Beta 8. I.e. do other people on that ROM see the same problem or not?

No, I tried two different WiFi networks and my carrier's network (T-mobile US), with same results. All other apps work. Wiped and installed again (from Google backup), same apps causing problems.

i have not had this issue when i clean flashed the beta8 build from a 100% stock setup. have you wiped data and internal storage too before installing 7.0?
stuff like this happened to me a long time ago, and it was usually caused by some data left over from a previous rom where the problematic apps had been installed

Thanks, that's very useful. I followed this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=69389114&postcount=3 after getting my stock/reset phone back from repair (had the issue where the camera wouldn't focus).

Success, I repeated everything to reset the phone, skipped installing from Google backup and copying back the old Internal Storage directory, and now everything installs just fine. Thanks again, bombaglad.

Play App Update do not install (download is ok ...)

Hi,
since abut 3 or 4 weeks I've more and more problems with my Z2. I'm on stock 8.0.0, not branded, pure Moto. One of my problems is, that Play Store updates get downloaded but then do not install. When I reboot my phone the app update which got previously downloaded installs and the the process got stuck again. Some time suddenly two or tree apps get updated. The the problem starts over. I've tried every thing I've found e.g. clearing Play caches etc. nothing helped.
Edit: a closer look showed that the download hangs at the last few bytes but some times it downloads to 100% but just does not install.
Any suggestions?
TIA

Try stopping the play services and store app, clear data and cache, then try again. If that doesn't see if the issue is with wifi or data, switch one or the other off then try updating or installing an app, see if the problem is connection specific. You can also try clearing the phone cache from storage as well. I know these are trivial suggestions, but it never hurts to double check. Might clear your storage cache and check the permissions as well.

Thanks. Tried all this already. May be it's liked to my WiFi problem as it seems to be "better" now. If the problem persists I think I will try to factory reset it ...

Strange Google services behavior after latest AT&T update

I received the latest AT&T update a week or so ago containing the 2.5 One UI update. After the update, I am experiencing some really strange issues with a variety of Google services.
1) Google Play Store updates are stalling. Most apps will download to a high percentage of completion (98% for example) and then just stall. If I leave the phone sit for a long time, eventually the updates will finish. This happens with every single app update or new download. I have 100GB free on the phone and it occurs on multiple networks (WIFI and AT&T).
2) GMail attachments won't download. They also stall at 0%.
3) I don't receive any incoming text messages when Google Messages Chat is enabled. Turning off chat and switching to SMS works though several texts say they failed to send and I have to retry (and they always end up going through). WIFI Calling is enabled.
4) Notifications from multiple apps are returning after I swipe them away. (Notification reminders is turned off in accessibility settings).
I did the usual - cleared cache in Google Play Store, Google Play Services, Google Services Framework, Download Manager. I cleared the cache after booting to recovery. When none of that fixed it, I completely reset my phone to factory conditions. Everything worked fine for 2 days and then today, all of the problems came back.
Everything else about the phone is normal as usual. I can't figure this one out and don't know what else to troubleshoot.
Try clearing the system cache on the boot menu.

Is that the same thing as clearing the cache after booting to recovery? (Volume up and power button)

That's it. Can work like voodoo on lots of gremlins.
If that doesn't get it try clearing data on the Google apps. Might have to take it back to the stone age but probably not.
Reboot afterwards if you do. Playstore is a pain.
If the OS hasn't been reloaded since Q was flashed consider reloading to get a snappy clean load.
My 3rd OS load is the best.
Although I'm still running Pie, it's fast and very stable... lol, I like dinosaurs. I don't update a lot as it usually causes more problems than it solves.
I had cleared the cache from recovery before I factory reset and it didn't fix it. However, I just tried it again on the new rebuild and this time I cleared the cache 5 times in a row and then rebooted. It appears to have fixed all of the problems. I wonder if it was a bad app update to Google Play Services after the restoration to factory conditions?

Sometimes you're better off staying on the factory load versions. I never let auto updates run.
I keep Playstore disabled unless I want to use it or check for updates because of this and it also is a resource pig.
Manually doing it makes spotting the trouble maker easier.
I also keep backup copies of known good updates for system apks so that the factory load isn't my only recourse if a apk been updated more than once. APK Export is a great freeware app for doing this. Backup all your Playstore apps too for faster and easier reloads. Plus if Playstore discontinues the app, you still have it. Been boned by Playstore* once too often.
*sometimes the software goes greedy, gets sold or there's a licensing issue. Either way once it's gone having a known good copy makes life so much easier.
Hello,
The same thing is happening to me but for several months now. I am in Spain with Movistar. The only way I could get them to update the Google Play APPs was to switch my mobile to "safe mode" and from there it really works.
I'm going to try a factory reset, to see how it went.

A reload probably won't help. It will very likely reoccur.
It sounds like a 3rd* party apk is the culprit.
Find the root cause and correct it.
It may be just a setting issue in a 3rd party apk.
*they include carrier, Samsung and misc others you installed.
