Xperia Z3
Although the 4K Screen makes the LG G3 look awesome sometimes, if your the type of person that only uses their phone to check Facebook, Email, Web Surfing etc etc, the Xperia Z3 kills the LG G3 in terms of battery life
Honestly when you compare the specs the only difference is the screen size and the battery between the G3 and the Xperia Z3, everything hardware wise is the same. But taking that into consideration the 4K screen chews up so much battery and ram which results in lag and random crashes on stock lollipop.
Sure some people might say using a AOSP rom or turning down the DPI on the G3 yields better battery life but in my opinion i dont like to sacrifice key features of the G3 just for a ROM that gives better battery life but takes out the key features of the LG UI
For me since i always get good condition second hand phones, money isnt a issue for me. But if it is for you i would suggest the G3

Well said bro... Thank you
But wait, you said the Z3 first and at the end you suggested the G3? I'm confused
He's recommending a Z3, unless price is an issue, in which case, a G3 will be fine and I agree.
In my opinion, the higher resolution isn't something I'd trade for battery life.
Although, should mention the G3 doesn't have a 4k screen.

Hi,
I'd like to buy a phone with good overall performance, stable CM11 and very good battery life (replaceable battery is an advantage). My N4 batt life is terrible.
1. LG G2 or Note 2 or Xperia Z1 Compact - which one would you choose?
2. How CM11 performs on Xperia Z1 Compact? How about of Screen On Time on CM11?
Note 2 is older than G2 and Z1C, but still is really comparable; it is cheaper too.
Any help will be appreciated.
Tried CM11 M9 on my XZ1C, and it's front facing camera is terrible.
Pictures taken from low light over adjusts the whites, grainy and just terrible.
Same results using Google camera.
The rear camera i think is too dark.
Restored back to stock.
This is the only thing that's holding me back on going for CM atm.
Never tried nightly builds, had a terrible experience on my previous phone
The battery life on stock 4.4.4 is great.
Still going after a full day of texting and occasional calls and social media visits.
And that's not even on stamina mode
No ideas with the other phones you mentioned.

After a month of nightly builds I can say nothing but credit to cm.
Its the best firmware for this phone in my opinion.
No lag,WiFi connects at higher speeds, almost everything works, stable ,finally a customizable ROM for this phone, the only thing that is not working is the vibration intensity i cannot change it.
I have the z1c and my girl has the g2. If you're looking for good cm11 performance, the g2 is a better bet having tried both. Its okay on the z1c but I find the camera lacking. The g2 has much more development going on for it too. However they're completely different sized devices, you'd have to decide which you like more. The note 2 is also good, but a bit dated (in my opinion) compared to the other two.

I'd say the Note 2 might suit you as you are aiming for stable Cyanogenmod or other custom ROMs. Note 2 has been out for a while and it means developers had many time playing with it. And being a popular phone, there must be like a lot of mods for it.
G2 and Z1C doesn't have removable battery. But they do have a strong battery.
As for CM on Z1C, can't tell, still love stock. Why would you install CM when stock is just as smooth, more stable, and you lose all the Xperia goodies, especially camera features.

Dude are you seriously recommending an Exynos 4 device for "stable CM"? Ahem, just no, they have huge battery drain issues due to their badly reverse engineered RIL and generally poor quality of the code drops for the entire Exynos 4 platform from Samsung.
@Taranis, If you're after stable and feature complete CM you're gonna want a Qualcomm device like the G2 or Z1C.
Obviously asking in the Z1C forum you're gonna get some Z1C-biased answers, but I honestly believe the Z1C is the best thing to come on the market this far. It has a large battery for it's screen size and resolution, you could easily go 2 days if you're not a heavy user, I usually have about 40% left at the end of the day (running CyanogenMod myself). It has microSDXC support. It's small and the build quality is top notch, the metal edges feel great in the hand. And on top of all that it's waterproof!
Regarding removable battery. If you look at the LG G2 wiki page you'll see that the Korean version has removable battery, you'll also notice that the removable battery in the Korean version has a significantly lower capacity compared to the international version (2610mAh vs 3000mAh, or roughly 13% smaller). This is the case with all removable batteries, because by making them removable the manufacturers have to adhere to strict rules regarding safety, usually meaning thicker shells leaving less space for the battery cells. Not only that, but in order to be user replaceable there needs to be a mechanism for removing the back cover to reveal the battery, also taking up precious battery space.
I strongly believe that the benefits of a non-removable battery outweigh the benefits of a removable battery. Really, how often do you actually carry a secondary charged battery, and couldn't you in that case just carry an external battery pack instead?
EDIT: Oh and another plus for the Z1C: It doesn't have silly back-buttons like the G2 , but that's a personal thing, I just think they feel weird.
Hi , guys , i want new phone for next 3 years. I am not planning to root it by any chance. I am done with that. I want phone for 550 dollars max. Tried Note 3 ,amazing but camera weak in low light. Going to swap it for G3 or Z2. Now i have to decide. Want reliable phone , no rooting , fast and snapp , 5,2 inch or more , one of the best cameras , price 550 dollars max.
Thank you.
If its not theZ3, go with the G3. Z2 is "obsolete" in tech world. (Oh i'm so gonna get flamed for saying that xD)
We'll be getting Lollipop in a couple of days, its fast and snappy, and the phone has a great camera, great battery and a great screen.
Lowlight isnt impressive, but then again, which phone Lumias and the new iPhones aside is...?
If Battery life is your main concern, Then Go for Z3(Dont buy Z2)
Z3 Battery Endurance Can Differ from 5Hours SOT on heavy usage to 6.30Hours SOT on Moderate
Battery Life on G3 is Average. .. Coming from Moto E which gives me Atleast 5-5.30Hours SOT ON HEAVY USAGE, I'M disappointed In LG G3.. Feels Like I'M Regretting buying this...
Battery Problems Aside, It A very Good Phone/Phablet
I own a Z2. In a few weeks my wife will be eligable for an upgrade and will have my Z2 whilst I get a new phone.
Z2 has great battery life, easily the best of any android phone I've had (About 8 since HTC Hero) and camera is great too.
Low light is way better than any previous phone I've had. In a slightly dark room the photo comes out looking brighter than it looks to the human eye. Yes you'll get noise but way better than say One X or Nexus 4.
I'm thinking of getting a G3 rather than a Z3, for following reasons:
Looks. I find the Sony phones a bit boring. And G3 bezel impresses me.
Removable cover. This means I can replace the battery. My wife's One X is 2.5 years old and battery is rubbish now, it needs replacing. Battery life will steadily decline after 1 year so think how long u will have phone.
I'd say camera is fairly similar so not much difference there.
Battery life is prob better for Z2 but its rare for me not to have mine charging in work and I rarely have to have it last a long time without charging anyway.
So for me, a G3.
But you'd never complain if you got a Z2 instead.
Hi,
I currently have an S6 and I really want to switch over to the G4 but I see a bunch of negative issues regarding the G4. has anyone switched from the S6 and would it be worth it for me to trade over? any input would be greatly appreciated thank you.
Anyone extremely happy with their G4?
I just switched from the S6 to the G4, but I have used the G4 for less than 24 hours so I can't give an full opinion yet but I wanted the bigger screen so that is the main reason I made the switch. I will give my pro and cons later as I find things i like or don't like about the G4 I'm comparison to the S6.
Of you want root then for now stick with the S6.
It depends. Do you play any games on your phone? Watch videos for extended periods of time? If so, the s6 is better. It manages battery better and doesn't get near as hot as the g4. If you're on Verizon, you'll also get the stripped software version, but still fully loaded with Verizon bloat. The g4 screen and camera are excellent on the g4....the s6 camera is better in some situations and not as good in others.
The s6 is also a little faster/more smooth than the g4. I'm returning mine in favor of swapping between the s6 and Note 4. My major deciding factors are battery life and stripped software features. The g4 also drops brightness to 80/90% pretty aggressively after a few minutes of use. The battery life is just pathetic. A lot of people, same as with EVERY phone, are going to claim to have 80 hours of battery with 70 hours screen on time, but it's mostly rubbish. If you wanna use your phone, full brightness, the battery will melt. It also dies on the s6 and Note 4 faster with full brightness. .but not near as fast as the g4 and it isn't near as hot either. Couple that with the terribly slow charging, and you pretty much have the functionality of a 2010 smartphone.
I switched about 10 days ago and havent looked back. Im not really having any issues with the G4 myself.
Also, theres several threads on this matter already.

VZW really screwed you guys. Not sure why they felt the need to strip the phone down of features, yet left the Sammy devices alone...

Well they strip Samsung devices too. Not usually as bad, but they did rip the Samsung Browser and app manager apps off. They were easy to replace once we got root.
I hate Verizon. They're really my only option tho. They just really over stepped their bounds on stripping the g4. Apple doesn't allow this to happen, I wish Android would tighten it up a little bit as far as that stuff goes
Barely got my G4 yesterday so I can't really give a good comparison yet. However, I did notice that the S6 is a lot smoother than the G4. Not that the G4 lags, but the difference for me was obvious from the start.

I actually never got that new phone excitement with either one this year. Neither feels like an upgrade from my S4 except in screen size and camera. Overall I probably liked the S6 more sock vs stock, but I get better battery life with the G4. Once we get root and unlocked BL I think this will be the better device. Hopefully an update fixes some of the issues. It seems like LG rushed out a kernel that wasn't fully ready yet. I look forward to the devs improving the G4.

If you don't mind, can you please tell me what some of the issues you're experiencing? I have a Nexus 6 on Verizon and I want the S6 or G4 as a second phone but, I can't decide. I've had the G2, G3, Note 3, Note 4. So I'm really torn. Both have great Camera's so I've read. I have small kids so camera is huge deal to me. Thanks.

If Camera is your main focus, neither will probably disappoint. I have no experience with the S6 (more a refusal to try after my experience with the Note 4 which became a disaster). I have 3 kids, so I know how ya feel about wanting a great camera experience to capture all that they do. I've taken a bunch of pictures with the G4 of my kids running, swinging, bowling in various types of light and they have come out great. I have been using auto only so far, but plan to play around with the manual mode a bit more once I have time off from work and can tinker more. S6 is supposed to be equally good in auto, but lacks the manual control and RAW ability the G4 has...though I will * that as "right now", since I am sure that Sammy will push that out once the S6 gets 5.1.
Thanks, appreciate that.

Anytime! Trust me, I know how hard a decision it is to choose between the 2. Ultimately what sold me was that the G4 was $80-380 cheaper depending on which S6/S6E and how much memory I wanted and LG was offering an extra battery, external charger and 32GB sdcard, and T-Mobile was giving a 128GB sdcard as well. I also think that pictures really make the device look kinda cheesy, when I felt it looks and feels better "in the hand" than pictures would indicate. I'd recommend going into a store that has both and just playing with each. Probably easiest way to make your decision.
The G4 on Verizon is seemingly fine for me. It is lasting longer in my daily routine than my LG G2 (which has been touted as having superb battery life). I really can't complain.
I don't see what Verizon pulled out except the "Themes" for the launcher or something... which I replace with Nova. Not sure about the Messaging or Keyboard, but I don't use stock Messaging. And the stock white lollipop themed keyboard is my fav. I don't know what else is missing from the others, but I am not missing it.
I am missing the stock LG Wireless Storage options from the Verizon LG G2.

That's quite a deal.. And the dimensions of the G4 are more in the range I'm used to. If I went with the S6, it'd be an almost full inch smaller to my Nexus 6. Quite a difference when it comes to handling the phone. The S6 is still intriguing to me, maybe it's the different processor. Never had a phone that wasn't Qualcomm chipped. Thanks again for your unbiased opinions/views.
I've seem far more complaints about the s6 than the G4. Not even close.

I bought the samsung S6 for the wife, and i got the G4 as other state: camera, display, size, battery goodies, 808 qualcomm , are really good , the display is top notch, like it better than the sammy, I just keeping at 56% and still super nice battery long day and half with moderate use as well disabled all the bloat first, as smartshare.media server and dlna/smartshare provider
Using Nova prime, smooth as hell, but NO Fast and some lag , using from my M8 the power cord to fast charge the battery it does faster but the regular LG power cable it does just fine as well, my wife get jealous of me cause the quality of pics from G4 .
Its a pleasure hold this phone 5.5 LG managed to do in small factor again that gorgeous screen, but no with the software to the end phone look so nice and for me the Samsung g6 is a better phone/user experience than G4
Edit: update G4 going back, ill get the Samsung s6 active
I had the S6 and swapped it for the G4 and it was a great decision, The S6 is a still good phone what enticed me more was the size but that's just preference and coming from a one plus it wasn't much difference and not to mention that as of now the phone can be rooted where as G4 most variants cant be, that aside the battery life is better and the camera is better. The s6 also I'm sure you are aware of has Ram issues it would use about 75% just being idle, the leather back I suppose compensates for the glass that had the S6 going for. I feel as though Touchwiz is slighty better this time around but I prefer stock android. Lastly the lack of fingerprint scanner which isn't a deal breaker to me but would of been nice to have on the G4.

do people really use their phone at max brightness? I use auto if I'm out doors otherwise less than 30 percent. Full brightness hurts my eyes.
Hello coming from the Z5, i had to say that's the worst mobile i had in the z series line up. May be i got a faulty handset? poor battery life and it was a mini heater. So, how is the z5 premium in these two aspects of battery life & temperature?

I came to z5p from z2 (looks like you have owned it too) Average battery life of my z5p is almost same, but in heavy tasks (games, intensive internet surfing) z5p discharging faster than z2. And when I read books or listen the music z5p works noticeably longer than z2. Its about 30% in my experience. Heating is lower than z2 too.
By the way in FW 32.2.A.0.224 sony promised to optimize energy consumption and put back stamina mode.

Z2 & Z3 were the best in terms of battery stand by, so i am not comparing with that :highfive:
So, heating is less which is a great thing.
Also i heard after the latest updates, almost everything is displayed in 4k, is it true?

No, mostly 1080p. The phone would lag doing simple tasks, hell, it even lags when I emulate 4k from ADB.
Z5P does a good job managing heat. I think the dual heat sinks and thermal paste are doing their job
And regarding 4k, all 4k pixels are firing but resolution may not be 4k lol if that makes sense. 4k resolution becomes available in album, movies, and possibly Mozilla Firefox (I couldn't tell by looking at it but 4k option is available on yt and takes forever to buffer so I'm assuming it is?)
Well, i went ahead and made the purchase. Chrome looks beautiful and the mobile seems to be better in terms of battery life & heat management compared to the z5.
Thank you guys.
Hey guys,
I am finding myself in a difficult position to make my mind on which phone suits me better.
I had the LG G4 for some time now and I found it really amazing. Always moving fast, reliable with GPS direction plus a nice attractive UI. It's main issue though was the battery draining so fast. For the past months my phone was always drained at the end of the day even with minimal usage. I ordered a brand new battery and replaced the current one just to see I can barely see an improvement.
On the other hand, I've been using my brother's Xperia XA1 Ultra in a trip and I was just amazed by this phone battery. It was performing at least 3 times better in terms of battery life and at the end of the day I still had over 40%+ of juice left. However, I had experienced trouble with Google Maps getting the compass to point the right direction I was facing and the back camera didn't really felt like a improvement for me.
Is there indeed an upgrade (hardware related) moving from LG G4 to Xperia XA1 Ultra? Is there something I can do to prolong my LG G4 battery life?

Latest aoscp or LOS with titan kernel will get the most possible battery life out of the g4. The display panel of the g4 is the main reason for draining so much. Replace it with an amoled one and you will get a week.. Lol.
