Hi,
I currently have an S6 and I really want to switch over to the G4 but I see a bunch of negative issues regarding the G4. has anyone switched from the S6 and would it be worth it for me to trade over? any input would be greatly appreciated thank you.
Anyone extremely happy with their G4?
I just switched from the S6 to the G4, but I have used the G4 for less than 24 hours so I can't give an full opinion yet but I wanted the bigger screen so that is the main reason I made the switch. I will give my pro and cons later as I find things i like or don't like about the G4 I'm comparison to the S6.
Of you want root then for now stick with the S6.
It depends. Do you play any games on your phone? Watch videos for extended periods of time? If so, the s6 is better. It manages battery better and doesn't get near as hot as the g4. If you're on Verizon, you'll also get the stripped software version, but still fully loaded with Verizon bloat. The g4 screen and camera are excellent on the g4....the s6 camera is better in some situations and not as good in others.
The s6 is also a little faster/more smooth than the g4. I'm returning mine in favor of swapping between the s6 and Note 4. My major deciding factors are battery life and stripped software features. The g4 also drops brightness to 80/90% pretty aggressively after a few minutes of use. The battery life is just pathetic. A lot of people, same as with EVERY phone, are going to claim to have 80 hours of battery with 70 hours screen on time, but it's mostly rubbish. If you wanna use your phone, full brightness, the battery will melt. It also dies on the s6 and Note 4 faster with full brightness. .but not near as fast as the g4 and it isn't near as hot either. Couple that with the terribly slow charging, and you pretty much have the functionality of a 2010 smartphone.
I switched about 10 days ago and havent looked back. Im not really having any issues with the G4 myself.
Also, theres several threads on this matter already.

VZW really screwed you guys. Not sure why they felt the need to strip the phone down of features, yet left the Sammy devices alone...

Well they strip Samsung devices too. Not usually as bad, but they did rip the Samsung Browser and app manager apps off. They were easy to replace once we got root.
I hate Verizon. They're really my only option tho. They just really over stepped their bounds on stripping the g4. Apple doesn't allow this to happen, I wish Android would tighten it up a little bit as far as that stuff goes
Barely got my G4 yesterday so I can't really give a good comparison yet. However, I did notice that the S6 is a lot smoother than the G4. Not that the G4 lags, but the difference for me was obvious from the start.

I actually never got that new phone excitement with either one this year. Neither feels like an upgrade from my S4 except in screen size and camera. Overall I probably liked the S6 more sock vs stock, but I get better battery life with the G4. Once we get root and unlocked BL I think this will be the better device. Hopefully an update fixes some of the issues. It seems like LG rushed out a kernel that wasn't fully ready yet. I look forward to the devs improving the G4.

If you don't mind, can you please tell me what some of the issues you're experiencing? I have a Nexus 6 on Verizon and I want the S6 or G4 as a second phone but, I can't decide. I've had the G2, G3, Note 3, Note 4. So I'm really torn. Both have great Camera's so I've read. I have small kids so camera is huge deal to me. Thanks.

If Camera is your main focus, neither will probably disappoint. I have no experience with the S6 (more a refusal to try after my experience with the Note 4 which became a disaster). I have 3 kids, so I know how ya feel about wanting a great camera experience to capture all that they do. I've taken a bunch of pictures with the G4 of my kids running, swinging, bowling in various types of light and they have come out great. I have been using auto only so far, but plan to play around with the manual mode a bit more once I have time off from work and can tinker more. S6 is supposed to be equally good in auto, but lacks the manual control and RAW ability the G4 has...though I will * that as "right now", since I am sure that Sammy will push that out once the S6 gets 5.1.
Thanks, appreciate that.

Anytime! Trust me, I know how hard a decision it is to choose between the 2. Ultimately what sold me was that the G4 was $80-380 cheaper depending on which S6/S6E and how much memory I wanted and LG was offering an extra battery, external charger and 32GB sdcard, and T-Mobile was giving a 128GB sdcard as well. I also think that pictures really make the device look kinda cheesy, when I felt it looks and feels better "in the hand" than pictures would indicate. I'd recommend going into a store that has both and just playing with each. Probably easiest way to make your decision.
The G4 on Verizon is seemingly fine for me. It is lasting longer in my daily routine than my LG G2 (which has been touted as having superb battery life). I really can't complain.
I don't see what Verizon pulled out except the "Themes" for the launcher or something... which I replace with Nova. Not sure about the Messaging or Keyboard, but I don't use stock Messaging. And the stock white lollipop themed keyboard is my fav. I don't know what else is missing from the others, but I am not missing it.
I am missing the stock LG Wireless Storage options from the Verizon LG G2.

That's quite a deal.. And the dimensions of the G4 are more in the range I'm used to. If I went with the S6, it'd be an almost full inch smaller to my Nexus 6. Quite a difference when it comes to handling the phone. The S6 is still intriguing to me, maybe it's the different processor. Never had a phone that wasn't Qualcomm chipped. Thanks again for your unbiased opinions/views.
I've seem far more complaints about the s6 than the G4. Not even close.

I bought the samsung S6 for the wife, and i got the G4 as other state: camera, display, size, battery goodies, 808 qualcomm , are really good , the display is top notch, like it better than the sammy, I just keeping at 56% and still super nice battery long day and half with moderate use as well disabled all the bloat first, as smartshare.media server and dlna/smartshare provider
Using Nova prime, smooth as hell, but NO Fast and some lag , using from my M8 the power cord to fast charge the battery it does faster but the regular LG power cable it does just fine as well, my wife get jealous of me cause the quality of pics from G4 .
Its a pleasure hold this phone 5.5 LG managed to do in small factor again that gorgeous screen, but no with the software to the end phone look so nice and for me the Samsung g6 is a better phone/user experience than G4
Edit: update G4 going back, ill get the Samsung s6 active
I had the S6 and swapped it for the G4 and it was a great decision, The S6 is a still good phone what enticed me more was the size but that's just preference and coming from a one plus it wasn't much difference and not to mention that as of now the phone can be rooted where as G4 most variants cant be, that aside the battery life is better and the camera is better. The s6 also I'm sure you are aware of has Ram issues it would use about 75% just being idle, the leather back I suppose compensates for the glass that had the S6 going for. I feel as though Touchwiz is slighty better this time around but I prefer stock android. Lastly the lack of fingerprint scanner which isn't a deal breaker to me but would of been nice to have on the G4.

do people really use their phone at max brightness? I use auto if I'm out doors otherwise less than 30 percent. Full brightness hurts my eyes.

I am fortunate enough to have the phones I want. I have an S4, HTC One among others.
Been using the S4 since it came out on Verizon and decided to give the HTC One a try. I always liked HTC.
So far I really like the phone, love the HTC keyboard, love the display and camera. I am also very surprised by how much I like beats, either speaker or Bluetooth. I also like the simplicity of sense when compared to touchwiz. As a Google music user, I love the lock screen controls, it matches the whole look of the phone and I wish I had something like this on the S4.
I really don't care about the materials used to make the phone but I do have to say, the One looks amazing. The more I look at it, the more I like, however, the S4 feels better in the hands, has a more comfortable grip.
I really don't like BlinkFeed and I miss sense's weather widget on 3rd party launchers. Dislike not having a brightness slider in the notification bar, hate not changing my battery.
I really miss some features of the S4 wish the S4 had some features available on the One.
By far, the best HTC phone I ever used but I don't think this phone is better or worse than the S4.

Some stuff that bothers me, based on my usage.
Battery life isn't as good as the S4, I expected this however because I knew this phone had a smaller battery. But I feel the drop in battery life is worse than I expected. What makes this more annoying is the fact that charging this device TAKES FOREVER. If I am using it as a GPS device, whether it be Waze or Google maps. I can't even get it to charge. It will either hold it's charge or loose some. This is with a 2amp car charger.
Other than that, I love the slightly smaller screen. 4.7" is a good stopping point. haha. And the speakers on this thing, wow. It's not insanely louder than my S4, but the clarity is insane for a phone. Love it.
Display is superior than that of the S4 as well. I don't know that I will want AMOLED screens anymore.
Sense trumps Touchwiz, I think we all knew that. I almost want to say I prefer this look than Stock AOSP.
Now if only I could get root, so I can remove the Verizon bloat.

I am kinda surprised at all the comments about this having bad battery life. I got 6 hours of screen on time (100% wifi with 20% brightness) a couple days ago: http://i44.tinypic.com/24b7vw1.png
Yesterday, I got down to about 50% (100% LTE with 20% brightness) with nearly 3 hours of screen on time. The phone was unplugged at 8am and plugged in around 10pm at 50%. My previous phone (Droid Bionic) would be LUCKY to receive 3 hours of screen on time on a single charge whether it be on wifi, 3G, or LTE.
Today, I am currently at 60% (100% LTE with 20% brightness) with 2.15 hours screen on time and the phone has been unplugged since 8am.:http://i43.tinypic.com/x1f37n.png
Seems pretty good to me!
I am not sure what the deal is with the battery hate either.
I go all day and still have ~30% to spare at bed time.
Nothing compares to the HTC Rezound I guess.
I get amazing battery life as well.
Also, I totally disagree that the S4 feels better in the hand. To me, the One is just... Awesome. The feel of the metal vs the cheap plastic feel of the S4. Blah.
Good post though. Always nice to hear others opinions.

Oh man. That fantastic cool sensation you receive when you pick up your HTC One in the morning is just amazing, right?
Having both the S4 and the HTC one, the HTC just blows the S4 away IMHO.
I love it.
The feel, the build quality, and HTC Sense.
I also feel the S4 will never get boot loader unlock while the htc one has a much greater chance of getting unlock and hopefully even S-OFF.
I also personally feel that the htc one feel WAY better in hand than the s4.
I do feel like I can toss my S4 around though and not worry while I don't feel the same with the htc one, I may have to actually get a case
i find the battery to be good, it comes off the charger at 5:30 in the morning and i normally have around 20% left when i go to bed around 11. But i'm used to the galaxy nexus which couldn't last half a day.
I have been swapping between the One and S4 since Thursday...the S4 trumps the One in in screen size...I definitely prefer 5 over 4.7 in most situations but not all haha...expandable memory and removable battery are nice to have but non-factors to me...I'm rooted and been on a custom ROM since day 1, so u have never experienced the supposed "lag" from the stock software...also I never accepted the OTA, so I can flash all I want
The one is like a jewel though. I never used cases on any my phones, but as soon as I held the One in the store, a case was an instant cop. Speakers on the One are amazing, the clarity is ridiculous. Battery life is OK, I have about 65% on my S4 after work compared to 50% on my One. The build of the one is nice, but is a non-factor to me...
I like both phones though, I feel bad leaving my S4 at home when I use my One for the day and vice versa...

haha I feel the same way, never use a case, but the htc one I just feel I might have to. not sure yet, need more time with it.
I feel bad even leaving my s3 behind, that phone is still killer haha.
S4 will never get unlocked, but at least the htc one I have faith, I will be selling s4 after 6 month period of no boot loader unlock, i give it 6 months then move on.
I guess we can add "battery life" to the common issues of death and taxes Reality is comparing each other's battery life has too many variables to compare, so seems surprising folks keep attempting it. Huge weighted factors combined equals no practical way to compare except your own use with a previous device.
Network area strength in relation to where using the device
Apps used and duration
Data radios on in weak area when not being used
Social apps and any background updating
Display brightness
Streaming cloud data (big battery drain compared to local content)
What other radios being used or on at time
Animations in UI
Wallpapers (live ones are not battery friendly)
Seriously, how on earth can anyone compare within 50% and be accurate (at even 50%)? Answer is only if a fluke will you be anywhere close to relative.
Sorry, double post. Having issues with xda app running like puke.

I absolutely love the speakers. I have a phone mount on my bike and it was okay with my old Dinc (it has some felt pads so there's about a quarter inch of space to bounce the sound back and amplify it a bit) but not only do those front speakers sound perfect me but I get turned heads from pedestrians
Even goofier, I put it in the sink while I'm showering in the morning, and can even hear the bass that way.
As for battery life, went out riding this morning to take pictures at a parade, was still at 80% when I got home. As a medical student I'm almost always at home or at school or in the hospital, thus always on wifi, so this thing is great. Looking at the battery graph the only rapid drops come when the 4G signal is weak.

I have a few questions about this phone. So far the s5 has been impressive as far as camera, battery life, speed, etc. The one problem? Its got a locked bootloader and there is no sign of it being unlocked any time soon.
The G3 has unlock method and several ROMS and development which is important to me(previous phone was s3 with plenty of ROMS).
So, does the g3 have good battery life and features similar to the s5?
Not much development,ok battery life with normal usage.Features wise doesn't have gestures, heart rate sensor, have multi windows, quick case circle, knock code.Probably best for you will be nexus 6
Sent from my LG-D855 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Hopes this helps
I have had the S5, HTC One M8 and Now the G3, in my opinion it is a better phone that the two mentioned before, battery life is solid and improved through moding, good camera, I would definitely choose this one, but I would take the 3 GB variant because the additional ram goes a long way. Everything works well the way it should be no gimmicks like the S5 and a much louder speaker than the M8.
Ive used many flagships over the last year (s5, note 3, htc m8, xperia z1, lg g2,); The G3 is my favorite phone so far. Minor issues are the dim backlight, mediocre battery, oversharpening. But overall, best phone.
If I could have any phone now however, Id choose the Note 4.
I had the S5 for a few months. What surprised me was that I was not impressed with it at all. It is not a terrible phone. It was okay. My issues...For one, despite the claims, I found the battery life and overall experience with the G2 to be MUCH better. The G2 was much smoother. So I was disappointed with the GS5 coming from the G2.
I was intrigued by the G3, but was worried about that display and 801 processor, dimmer display, battery life etc. However, I couldn't stomach the GS5 anymore and I took the plunge and after rooting the G3, I find the battery life to be better than the GS5 . The G3 is better for making phone calls (better audio quality), and has better speakers. There are some lags. But I think those aren't so bad in general and can be improved with a different launcher or Rom (if you are into that). The camera is about the same (the GS5 takes better daylight photos). I have't really played with the modded cameras available for the G3, so I cannot comment on that.
Definitely I would go for the G3. For me, the G3 has been a better experience.
I have both phones SG5 and G3. Love G3, everything stock and still better for customising than GS5. If only battery life could be better on G3.
I heavily use SG5 and battery will last all day on G3 it goes to 50 % within 6 hrs.
Can't decide too which to keep.
My wife got the S5 about a week ago, and I'd been on the fence for a while, most because I'd been spooked by all the posts & threads about G3 glitches. I got my G3 today, and I gotta tell ya, I don't see ANY of the glitches I've been reading about. No overheating, no force closes, no over-sharpening... nothing. It's only been a day, but I've been pushing this thing all day.
I am going to have to spend some time working on the battery life, because it does go through it fast. But, I'm rooted on Barrin, so I'm hoping I have some options to disable some of the hogs. I typically go from home to my car to work and back where I always have a power source, but there will be times when I'm not. That will be rough, unless I find effective adjustments.
I went from the S4 to the G3. Not quite the same as you, but similar.
Here's what I've found in the 4 months of using the G3.
My list of cons looks a little big, But they are small things in comparison to the Pros, I just wanted to share my experience.
I'm currently a proud owner of the G3 and despite running everything stock due to lack of development for my model (D852), The G3 at stock is still better than most other heavily modified phones.
G3 Pros:
~ Best form factor in any phone bar none, The screen size is perfect for the size of the phones body, Very compact for a 5.5" screen and 1 handed use has never been an issue for me on this phone. (My hands are about medium size) (This is my main reason for keeping this phone.)
~ The bezels on this phone are the smallest nicesest looking bezels on any phone out there. (Without these super skinny bezels we wouldn't be able to get this small form factor with this huge of a screen, Looking really good is just a bonus hahaha.)
~ This phone is probly the nicest looking phone on the market, looking at it from the front with the screen off. (with the exception of the grey bottom bezel, The grey bezel kinda wrecks it's super sleek sexy look. But it still looks really good)
~ Super sexy UI, Especially the notification menu on this phone is THE NICEST looking of any android device in my opinion. (Which is kinda funny considering the G2 had the UGLIEST notification menu out of any android device I've ever seen.)
~ 1440x2560p resolution. <--- This is the first resolution that I've ever seen where I feel it's a retina display (Everyones eyes are different), To my eyes this resolution is a REAL retina display, Meaning my eyes can't see pixels anymore, After owning a 1440p phone i can totally notice 1080p isn't even retina Although some would disagree. Let's not even talk about what steve jobs thought was a retina display hahaha, Your eyes would melt out of your head seeing those resolutions now days. Although I could see how an iphone can be a retina display... at 5 feet away...
~ You can install custom roms & kernels via bump method.
~ Extremely good standby battery life on my Canadian model (D852). (5h20m per 1% battery drain, From what I've seen most US models seem to only get 1-3 hours per 1% depending on the circumstances, But as you can see it can be a lot higher depending on the circumstances.)
~ My first battery cycle on my G3 was an impressive 13.5 DAYS with just under 3 hours SOT on LTE 100% of the time. (100% of the SOT was texting)
~ Screen on time is really good, At stock on my G3 I get a slightly less SOT than my S4 that was heavily modified towards power savings
(Using auto brightness with slider at 0 & optimized options on stock I average around 11.5h screen on time (most of my SOT is texting) over the course of 3-4 days on most cycles on my G3, If I don't do any webbrowsing.) (The webbrowser on this phone DESTROYS my battery life)
~ I left my screen on for a full cycle without touching it just to see what kind of screen time the device is capable of and it went for 15h35m screen on time, autobrightness was on with slider at 0. I also tried the same test with the only custom kernel that exists for my model (D852) and my battery life only did 10 hours unused vs the (11.5h avg) I get WITH usage on the stock kernel. Lack of kernel support on the D852 does make me consider trying another phone.
(It also might be fair to say that most other users average 3-5h SOT, which I don't even know how is possible to get so little unless you were playing a game the whole time with max brightness, but it's reality for some. But just know you can EASILY exceed 3-5h SOT)
G3 Cons:
~ If I turn my brightness above 50-60% I can start to see little squares on the screen, I usually run really low brightness and just noticed this a couple days ago. (I will likely RMA because of this.)
~ The glass on this phone is prone to coming slightly lose from the screen around the edges, Just enough to make the glass stick up higher than the actual bezel itself, Just like the S4's screen. (This of all things pisses me off more than anything) (I exchanged my first G3 back to the carrier for a new G3 because I had this issue & my phone was really hot, The second device was solid until I noticed the little squares on my screen as mentioned above.)
~ Can't fully disable touchboost. (This phone is clocked at 1.5ghz on 2 cores when your finger is touching the screen because of touchboost, So just to swipe your screen consumes ALOT of power and causes lags due to cpu ramping up on the stock cpu governor) (Even with a custom kernel I was only able to disable touchboost on 3 of 4 cores on my D852, So even when I'm texting on my phone my cpu has to hit 1.5ghz on 1 core to press a letter on my keyboard which is BS, And if on stock kernel it ramps up 2 cores to 1.5ghz just to type a letter) (touchboost is one of the biggest causes for keyboard lag & battery drain when the screen is on.)
~ Signal reception is not near as good as my S4, My S4 was always full bars, This phone is lucky to have half my bars. (Calls are nice and clear without any background noise, Probly the best I've ever heard on any cellphone so far but the data connection is a little flakey)
~ The top bezel is very uncomfortable on my ear when making a phone call. (I always find myself using speaker phone a lot because of this) (Despite the S4 having the same bezel design, The S4 didn't hurt my ear)
~ I have a buzzing sound in my left headphone IF there is no audio playing AND the cpu is under load.
~ This phone isn't as responsive as my S4 was. (One of the reasons for this is the combination of the stock cpu governor + touchboost, The stock cpu governor doesn't ramp fast enough for the touchboost causing a noticeable delay everytime you touch your finger to the screen while using the stock cpu governor, Especially noticeable when scrolling web pages on the web browser.)
~ Web browsing is alot slower than my S4 was, Sometimes I even get "Connection timed out" while trying to load web pages on WiFi, LTE, HSPA+, HSPA. All networks appear to be affected. (Using stock browser, Haven't tried other browsers yet)
~ The webbrowsing on the stock browser drains battery REALLY fast. (But it's the only 2k browser, Atleast it was the last time I checked) (I believe LG's sandbox security is to blame for the stock webbrowsers bad battery life/bad performance)
~ Very little development on lots of models, It seems unless you get a D855 you probly won't get much development. As of right now for my Canadian D852 there is only 1 custom rom and only 1 custom kernel in existence for my model. (Both of which are the same or worse in battery life than stock)
~ If your really into battery savings and are stuck with a crappy model like my D852 model the only custom kernel for my model is the Rin kernel and that makes my phone die FASTER than stock kernel even when it's completely tweaked for max battery life. Completely tweaked Rin kernel gives me same battery life as stock kernel but with TONS of stutters & lags (Stock rom + stock kernel gives me the best battery life & performance on my D852)
~ Phone is hot out of the box without disabling a bunch of things.
~ Color is washed out. (Especially the color red, Red looks like orange that is trying to be red, like it's almost red, but still orangeish.)
~ Color is REALLY washed out at high brightness. (At really high brightness black isn't even black, it's grey)
~ (I don't know if you would call this last one a con, But it sure is disappointing none the less) All the space on the inside of the phone to the left and right of the battery is hollow plastic that coulda been used for a much larger battery, But because this phone was made in korea it was designed this way to accommodate the TV antenna on the Korean version, In the non Korean version it's just air filling this same space.
Excellent
I go for all the latest phones. Have had the s4 m7/8 z2. This is my first lg and am very impressed by it. Easy to use, excellent display. Really cant fault it. Get good battery life and am constantly using it. At the end of the day choice is yours but i dont think you'll be disappointed.
Hi
I'm thinking to switch from a note 4 to a LG G4 but before I wanted to decide on want to ask the G4 users how there experience is with the phone. How is battery life and heat with this phone? How is camera?
I'm a moderate gamer but I watch often movies on my phone. S pen is not that important for me
the biggest problem of LG G4 is only about battery. I personally just can achieve 4-6 hours of battery life. My G4 was worked normally until last week: the temperature became 60'C, always restarting when overheated (now my G4 is at LG Service Center). Camera is absolutely the best, even note5 can't beat it. Screen size is only 5.5, so if you came from Note3 or Note4, you'll miss roomy screen. So, if you need best camera, buy it, otherwise upgrade to other phone IMHO
I dont know how battery life will improve with the marshmallow update. I just updated yesterday so time will show that. I would say battery life is about 4-5hrs SOT. If you are used to longer screen on time you might be in for a suprise. However the camera is the best i have seen. I don't know how it would compare to the note 5. Another device worth looking at is the Nexus 6P. It is up there with the best so maybe go into a store and check it out. Bottom line im happy with my LG G4. No lag at all

I came from a Note 4. I loved my Note, but figured out, that after a while I didn't need the S-Pen anymore.
The G4 is not as "Productive" as the Note, but comes along with an awesome camera and, if you're rooted and got the right apps on you phone, with a good battery life.
In fact, I'm happy to have changed from Samsung to the G4, but it's surely a question of taste, too. But I can recommend it. I'm super satisfied Cheers

How is battery life and the heating of the phone these 2 aspects are really important for me

I have no heat problems and as I said: Battery life is good for me. Usually I have 2 days until I have to charge my phone again (If I'm not using it very often).
Otherwise I have to charge it every 24 hours, if I'm using it alot.
I think there's no big difference between the battery life of the Note 4 and the G4. I usually had to charge both phones at night, which is pretty much ok for me.
If I had to make a choice I'd say the LG G4 lasts a little longer (if rooted) Cheers
EDIT: If I'm power using it I get like 5-6 hours SOT, which is also similar to the Note 4
Remember results may vary.
The guy above me is getting 5 -6 hours SOT. But for me I can only achieve that when I am at home on wifi all day. And maybe the same is true for follow_and_feel. So it really depends on your day to day activities.
In a nutshell. If you're in a area with spotty connectivity, battery life will take a huge plummet. On work days my building is in a spotty area, and the phone lasts me until the end of the day with maybe 5-10%. With 3ish hours SOT under my belt. If the network wasn't spotty I'd probably look at 4 hours or more.
The only time I experience heat is under heavy usage, very spotty areas, or while using a garbage app like snapchat. Otherwise on normal day to day use with messaging, browsing, social media, the odd video here and there the phone stays cool.
Camera on this bad boy is out of this world. I've seen some of the shots people have taken and they look very professional. To the average person, they would barely be able to tell the difference between a G4 picture and one taken with a proper camera. The camera is probably the biggest selling point.
Lastly gaming. Gaming is a no no. Battery goes down very fast, and the phone eventually heats up as well. You can get away with some light games like Clash of Clans but don't expect the battery to hold up. The GPU is weaker than it's hot headed older brother (Snapdragon 810). If gaming is very big for you, I'd honestly say get the Note.
Videos is not an issue though. You might get some warmth though but nothing major
I currently have a Motorola phone with pretty great battery life (thanks to a SD6xx class SOC), but I really like my wife's V20. The display and cameras are awesome and a clear step above mine, but the battery life was kind of meh until we replaced it with a Perfine LiPo that offers about 20% more battery than stock.
I'm interested in the LG G7 because right now they are super cheap on ebay, and have most of the things I love about the V20, but more updated (Pie support, less throttled and laggy SoC). I also really like the way it looks, as the V20 feels too big for my pockets. It seems to tick almost EVERY box I have in an affordable dream handset.
My ONLY concern, however, is the battery.
I currently average over 18 hour off the charger with 5-6 hours of SOT, and never top off. My wife's V20 with the Perfine battery gets around the same and then some (she can actually make it with 15-20% remaining when plugging in for the night, or at least into the next morning with the same usage before needing a charge). I'm reading all the battery experiences around here and thinking, oh man I might hate this.
I don't want to worry about topping off to last the day, or missing notifications because I had to turn on battery saver mode.
I've heard that Pie helped battery for some, and most of the complaints here are dating back to 2018 so it might have gotten better for more recent users with the newer OS. I wish I could replace this with a larger battery like the V20, but sadly LG isn't going that way anymore as we all know. The SD820 in the V20 is little laggy/throttly for me (usually fast and smooth, but sometimes it feels slower than my SD6xx Moto phone under stress), and support for the US variants look like they are grounded at Oreo. So, I don't want to go the same route as my wife's phone.
Feeling conflicted with my options. The G7 seems awesome on paper, will I hate it? Help me out guys!
It seems clear now that once again the Exynos version is inferior this year and as I understand it the known disadvantages are as follows:
Inferior real world performance (actually is capable of better but suffers with thermals)
Power management
Different (worse) camera module in the Exynos vs. the SD
I'm guessing that most positive comments are from snapdragon users so for those with an Exynos, how are you feeling? and better still does anybody out there have both versions?
I have the S20+ and have been a little disappointed, the camera has been pretty average (only just got April update so not tested that yet) and I have noticed that the phone gets quite warm quite quickly, being in lockdown the battery has not jumped out yet as I am never more than one room away from a charger.
Thoughts??
S20 exynos user here and I'm fine with it...
I don't game which helps of course, but get decent battery life (idle drain 0.5-0.7%/hr and when using the phone a lot I get around 6 hrs SOT, actually 6:13 atm and 15% left). Pictures are fine as well, coming from an S10+ they are sharper overall but exposure can be a bit tricky every now and then. I hope and think things will improve in future updates.
Thing is I really prefer the smaller sized phones, I mean the OP8 and P40's also look great but they are simply too big for me. The S10+ was already on the edge, can work with it but less then optimally comfortable.
Would I have rather had the SD version? Yeah
Is the exynos a reason for me to return? No
I have paid about 630 euros for it though, had I paid full price I might have judged differently and indeed returned it.
I did optimize things (96hz refresh rate, disabled some apps I don't need/use, etc) so that might have helped with battery life. No custom roms or anything though so no warranty issues.
Having S20 Exynos.
Very disappointed with S20 after a 3 weeks of use.
Very bad battery performance. looks like I have started to control my ph usage looking at the battery no's declining. hahhahaha very very funny.
phone heats up with min usage( not sure is it cause of summer or exynos. hahaha). But this is true in my case even in indoor usage.
Just few min of use can see temp raise to 37+. If use camera for more than 5 min or so. it goes above 40 & refresh rate drops to 60.
I really don’t understand what Samsung trying to do here. impose on users, who have paid hefty money for their products.
It’s been more than a month. yet we still have to go thru these. Even after their multiple updates
camera not really to Samsung mark to be (compare to previous models.no major improvements).
Only thing which makes me to use over note 10+ is 120hz. Rest not worth the price.
I don’t say the phone is bad, but not worth the upgrade for the price.
At the core I guess Samsung is aware they have screw up the S20 series using exynos.
Hope with Note 20 they will make it up to retain their fans with SD processor. If this is not going happen, then for sure ill also be one of them to say goodbye.
*very BAD*

ideal phone will be pixel 4XL with 5000mAh battery , oh maybe it can be a little biger as s20 ultra - ideal phone to me .
buy yourself the one 8pro and you will be better off - wish id done that but rushed into the samsung phones not knowingly how **** they are this year
Thanks all.
It is strange but OnePlus's stance on the Always on Display has always really irritated me, not just that they have still not added one but mostly how they have apparently been 'working on it' like forever. It is a feature I like, not a reason to buy or not buy a phone but when all others offer it it does tip the balance. The P40 is amazing and the whole google thing is really frustrating.
I also agree that the Pixel 4 XL is REALLY close to being the best overall droid out there, slightly nicer design, brighter screen and a higher storage option and it would be IMO. On the flip side though the S20 is also REALLY close too.
Out of interest what is the best way to monitor the battery temperature in real time? I'd kind of like to test that.

I've used Battery Widget Reborn since my HTC Desire days, it has a widget that can be configured for battery temp.
Just put it on the screen next to Accubattery now ...
Reading alot about exynos version battery life. I have s20+ exynos 4G model. I had note 9 and I felt it had good battery life. Then I got s10+ and the battery anxiety was completely gone. And from s10+ to s20+, I feel battery life is almost the same as my s10+, on 120 hz. I dont disable anything. Using completely stock. No issues what so ever. I get 5 to 6 hrs of battery life if I use the full cycle and standby 16 to 18 hours, with 20% or so remaining.
I tend to stick to 40 to 85% cycle. Developed this habit when I had s10+ since the battery anxiety was gone. I charge twice a day, once in the morning to 85% and once in late afternoon or evening (when it hits around 40%). Not more than 25 to 30 mins each (25W charger works well). So, an hour of charging works for me easily. I think since I have the 4G model I am not getting problems most ppl are.
Also, I don't play games except for one, 2048. Two gmail, two facebook and messenger, two whatsapp, Twitter, snapchat, Instagram. All the office apps.
Camera is better than my s10+. The pictures are sharp and I am very happy with it.
