Hey guys,
I am finding myself in a difficult position to make my mind on which phone suits me better.
I had the LG G4 for some time now and I found it really amazing. Always moving fast, reliable with GPS direction plus a nice attractive UI. It's main issue though was the battery draining so fast. For the past months my phone was always drained at the end of the day even with minimal usage. I ordered a brand new battery and replaced the current one just to see I can barely see an improvement.
On the other hand, I've been using my brother's Xperia XA1 Ultra in a trip and I was just amazed by this phone battery. It was performing at least 3 times better in terms of battery life and at the end of the day I still had over 40%+ of juice left. However, I had experienced trouble with Google Maps getting the compass to point the right direction I was facing and the back camera didn't really felt like a improvement for me.
Is there indeed an upgrade (hardware related) moving from LG G4 to Xperia XA1 Ultra? Is there something I can do to prolong my LG G4 battery life?

Latest aoscp or LOS with titan kernel will get the most possible battery life out of the g4. The display panel of the g4 is the main reason for draining so much. Replace it with an amoled one and you will get a week.. Lol.

I have two extended battery packs from power beat and an external battery wall charger so I never use the charging port
Each battery lasts me 27 hours with heavy use

I have been looking for a decent mid range phone for a few weeks now. I've basically narrowed it down to the Moto G and this. I was about to purchase it when I thought to check XDA. Of course I see a massive thread about poor battery life and a few other threads mentioning it.
Just how bad is it? Will it not last me a busy day? I want this phone over the Moto G since it has a micro SD card slot but I'm not going to buy a phone if it has a poor battery life. I'm not quite sure if the battery issues are overblown or not since that tends to happen a lot.
Also, how is the performance? I hear a lot of bad things about touchwiz so I thought I'd ask. What phone of the two would you recommend?

Go read up on here:

It's apparently pretty good in terms of battery life, and performance is on par with the Galaxy Note II, it might 'feel' faster though, since the screen resolution is a lot smaller than the Note II.
Source: I'm getting one tomorrow, time to upgrade my Note I.

I have this phone for a few months now GT-9195 however the battery life is crappy it really is the phone hardly last 2 days on a battery with Lite to no usage ! In a busy day it last around 12 hours.
Also the build quality of the phone is not very good my phone has scratches on it already which are noticeable !
I don`t know about the Moto G ! However the phone is fast and it`s in nice form factor which was key for me as I don`t like 5" phones !

I've had mine for about 5 months battery life is pretty poor on touchwiz. I charge my phone overnight when I'm asleep and have not needed to top it up since I started running various flavours of CM.
Everyone's idea of a busy day is different.

Saying build quality is not very good because it shows scratches is a bit harsh, most phones will get scratches which will be noticeable.
Poor build quality means bits fall off or break or stop working, which I've heard nothing about on this or any other forum.

I would agree on your last comment,
I love my little Mini
I think the battery is ok, as long as you switch off the smart stay, the battery does last longer.
I agree with the last poster, having scratches does not mean it's bad quality built, may be if the phone is looked after then you won't get scratches, I have a glass screen protector and a cheap case, this has giving me about 98% protection, with only the sensor, mic and button not covered.
Hi , guys , i want new phone for next 3 years. I am not planning to root it by any chance. I am done with that. I want phone for 550 dollars max. Tried Note 3 ,amazing but camera weak in low light. Going to swap it for G3 or Z2. Now i have to decide. Want reliable phone , no rooting , fast and snapp , 5,2 inch or more , one of the best cameras , price 550 dollars max.
Thank you.
If its not theZ3, go with the G3. Z2 is "obsolete" in tech world. (Oh i'm so gonna get flamed for saying that xD)
We'll be getting Lollipop in a couple of days, its fast and snappy, and the phone has a great camera, great battery and a great screen.
Lowlight isnt impressive, but then again, which phone Lumias and the new iPhones aside is...?
If Battery life is your main concern, Then Go for Z3(Dont buy Z2)
Z3 Battery Endurance Can Differ from 5Hours SOT on heavy usage to 6.30Hours SOT on Moderate
Battery Life on G3 is Average. .. Coming from Moto E which gives me Atleast 5-5.30Hours SOT ON HEAVY USAGE, I'M disappointed In LG G3.. Feels Like I'M Regretting buying this...
Battery Problems Aside, It A very Good Phone/Phablet
I own a Z2. In a few weeks my wife will be eligable for an upgrade and will have my Z2 whilst I get a new phone.
Z2 has great battery life, easily the best of any android phone I've had (About 8 since HTC Hero) and camera is great too.
Low light is way better than any previous phone I've had. In a slightly dark room the photo comes out looking brighter than it looks to the human eye. Yes you'll get noise but way better than say One X or Nexus 4.
I'm thinking of getting a G3 rather than a Z3, for following reasons:
Looks. I find the Sony phones a bit boring. And G3 bezel impresses me.
Removable cover. This means I can replace the battery. My wife's One X is 2.5 years old and battery is rubbish now, it needs replacing. Battery life will steadily decline after 1 year so think how long u will have phone.
I'd say camera is fairly similar so not much difference there.
Battery life is prob better for Z2 but its rare for me not to have mine charging in work and I rarely have to have it last a long time without charging anyway.
So for me, a G3.
But you'd never complain if you got a Z2 instead.
Hi Guys!
I'm currently looking for a new phone. I can only buy midrange phones atm and since the G4 and S6 are released, I expect both of their predecessor's price will go lower. Apparently, I'm torn between the previous flagships, G3 and S5, which is still of course still capable now. I really like the G3 over the s5 but I am bothered by the battery life that most people say is bad. I mostly need the phone to school at around 12 hrs off the charger. At school I usually just text and call a few times, take pictures and notes, occasional time wasting games on breaks and also I listen to music on trips to and from school [approx 1.5 hrs of music]. My question is, will the G3's battery be capable of that amount of usage? Or will I benefit on the S5 on this? Thanks in Advance!

That's very similar to my daily usage pattern and my G3 never died on me. You can expect between 4-5h of screen on time. It really depends on your signal, if you live in a poor signal area, any phone will take a hit in battery life.
The majority of people who complain about G3's battery life came from a G2 or similar phones, and they're used to getting 6+ h of screen on time. For them, it was a downgrade in the battery department.

Now I'm starting to get really excited to get this phone more, well, another question, are there any major gripes on this phone? Also coming from an old phone with a really mediocre battery life (Xperia Sola), I think the battery life of this is definitely enough. Based on what I read before, It's mostly the battery, but as you said, based on my usage, I would get throughout the day easily, so the batteries are crossed out. Any other major thing (flaw?) you would say?

It's all relevant, some things that annoy some people might not be an issue for others, and vice versa.
For me, there are 2 things i don't like about the G3, but they are not that big of a deal, i can live with them. The first is i would've liked if the display can get a bit brighter (especially on very sunny days). The second, coming from the last 4 generations of nexus devices, i miss the software fluidity of stock android, despite that i appreciate some of the feature additions LG has thrown in their "skin".
All in all, i would take the G3 over the Galaxy S5 anytime.
Ok, I went to a local LG store in my place and played on the LG G3 a bit. The G4 was there, and I'm drooling over it, the leather back was so nice. Ok ok back to my question. After using it for a few minutes, I noticed the brightness to be low and I checked it, it was at 90%. My problem is as I am trying to increase it, there's a warning shown that the temp was high so I can't increase it more. My question is, does it happen often? The overheating?
As an LG G 3 power user I can confirm that the phone will indeed heat up from time to time, however, the phone you played with was most likely plugged in to a charger from what I can read.
Any phone that's being charged up and used at the same time will get hot, it simply puts more strain on the battery.
You should be able to get the 12 hours you need out of your device on a full charge, especially with the power save g to that come with it, however don't expect do go a full day (24hrs) without it having to hit the cradle.
I hope this helps.

Indeed it was plugged. So I guess it is indeed because of that. It's ok for me if I need to charge it everyday, as long as it can last for 12 hrs. Thanks!

You can expect much much much better battery life with G3 or S5 than your soon-to-be-ex-phone Xperia Sola.
Both G3 and S5 almost the same battery life, even though G3 is better in standby time.
If you buy G3, immediately update it to latest version. Your phone will not overheat ever, like mine never did
Only hard gaming for a 1hr+ time can make it overheat.
Well...Depends. I don't think it'll last for 12 hours. You get 5hours of SOT only on the lowest brightness setting, higher the brightness lower the SOT. For me in school it lasts for 8 hours max, then gotta charge it. Also it's true I'm using it most of the time for 4G so that may be why.

I really think it's battery life would be enough, as what you all said, also since I can manage to use my sola for that amount of time which has a ridiculously short battery life. Hahaha! XD. Also thanks for the info! I'll definitely update it, to get a taste of the lollipop's sweetness.

I only use 3g (H+ is enough for me), so definitely/ probably I can get it pass that 12 hr mark. Signal was a bit of a problem though at school, since the school is near a jail, they seem to have network jammers installed. Weird.
Hi
I'm thinking to switch from a note 4 to a LG G4 but before I wanted to decide on want to ask the G4 users how there experience is with the phone. How is battery life and heat with this phone? How is camera?
I'm a moderate gamer but I watch often movies on my phone. S pen is not that important for me
the biggest problem of LG G4 is only about battery. I personally just can achieve 4-6 hours of battery life. My G4 was worked normally until last week: the temperature became 60'C, always restarting when overheated (now my G4 is at LG Service Center). Camera is absolutely the best, even note5 can't beat it. Screen size is only 5.5, so if you came from Note3 or Note4, you'll miss roomy screen. So, if you need best camera, buy it, otherwise upgrade to other phone IMHO
I dont know how battery life will improve with the marshmallow update. I just updated yesterday so time will show that. I would say battery life is about 4-5hrs SOT. If you are used to longer screen on time you might be in for a suprise. However the camera is the best i have seen. I don't know how it would compare to the note 5. Another device worth looking at is the Nexus 6P. It is up there with the best so maybe go into a store and check it out. Bottom line im happy with my LG G4. No lag at all

I came from a Note 4. I loved my Note, but figured out, that after a while I didn't need the S-Pen anymore.
The G4 is not as "Productive" as the Note, but comes along with an awesome camera and, if you're rooted and got the right apps on you phone, with a good battery life.
In fact, I'm happy to have changed from Samsung to the G4, but it's surely a question of taste, too. But I can recommend it. I'm super satisfied Cheers

I have no heat problems and as I said: Battery life is good for me. Usually I have 2 days until I have to charge my phone again (If I'm not using it very often).
Otherwise I have to charge it every 24 hours, if I'm using it alot.
I think there's no big difference between the battery life of the Note 4 and the G4. I usually had to charge both phones at night, which is pretty much ok for me.
If I had to make a choice I'd say the LG G4 lasts a little longer (if rooted) Cheers
EDIT: If I'm power using it I get like 5-6 hours SOT, which is also similar to the Note 4
Remember results may vary.
The guy above me is getting 5 -6 hours SOT. But for me I can only achieve that when I am at home on wifi all day. And maybe the same is true for follow_and_feel. So it really depends on your day to day activities.
In a nutshell. If you're in a area with spotty connectivity, battery life will take a huge plummet. On work days my building is in a spotty area, and the phone lasts me until the end of the day with maybe 5-10%. With 3ish hours SOT under my belt. If the network wasn't spotty I'd probably look at 4 hours or more.
The only time I experience heat is under heavy usage, very spotty areas, or while using a garbage app like snapchat. Otherwise on normal day to day use with messaging, browsing, social media, the odd video here and there the phone stays cool.
Camera on this bad boy is out of this world. I've seen some of the shots people have taken and they look very professional. To the average person, they would barely be able to tell the difference between a G4 picture and one taken with a proper camera. The camera is probably the biggest selling point.
Lastly gaming. Gaming is a no no. Battery goes down very fast, and the phone eventually heats up as well. You can get away with some light games like Clash of Clans but don't expect the battery to hold up. The GPU is weaker than it's hot headed older brother (Snapdragon 810). If gaming is very big for you, I'd honestly say get the Note.
Videos is not an issue though. You might get some warmth though but nothing major
I currently have a Motorola phone with pretty great battery life (thanks to a SD6xx class SOC), but I really like my wife's V20. The display and cameras are awesome and a clear step above mine, but the battery life was kind of meh until we replaced it with a Perfine LiPo that offers about 20% more battery than stock.
I'm interested in the LG G7 because right now they are super cheap on ebay, and have most of the things I love about the V20, but more updated (Pie support, less throttled and laggy SoC). I also really like the way it looks, as the V20 feels too big for my pockets. It seems to tick almost EVERY box I have in an affordable dream handset.
My ONLY concern, however, is the battery.
I currently average over 18 hour off the charger with 5-6 hours of SOT, and never top off. My wife's V20 with the Perfine battery gets around the same and then some (she can actually make it with 15-20% remaining when plugging in for the night, or at least into the next morning with the same usage before needing a charge). I'm reading all the battery experiences around here and thinking, oh man I might hate this.
I don't want to worry about topping off to last the day, or missing notifications because I had to turn on battery saver mode.
I've heard that Pie helped battery for some, and most of the complaints here are dating back to 2018 so it might have gotten better for more recent users with the newer OS. I wish I could replace this with a larger battery like the V20, but sadly LG isn't going that way anymore as we all know. The SD820 in the V20 is little laggy/throttly for me (usually fast and smooth, but sometimes it feels slower than my SD6xx Moto phone under stress), and support for the US variants look like they are grounded at Oreo. So, I don't want to go the same route as my wife's phone.
Feeling conflicted with my options. The G7 seems awesome on paper, will I hate it? Help me out guys!
