Hi Guys,
I actually have a HD7m but my dad quite liked the 4.3 inch screen and was now asking me to buy a similar handset. We went out and he was quite impressed with the Desire HD.
But the catch, when I researched online, I found out the battery issue on practically every thread and community.
Now my problem: He is an old man and can get cranky at times. Currently owes a Nokia C6 and is pissed with the touch screen. So is it wise to buy him Desire HD even with the bad battery life?
Or worse case scenario, I swap my HD7 for his Desire HD????
Should I go for it or should can you guys suggest something else equally fluid??
It doesn't have battery issues once calibrated. I have 1-5mA battery drain on standby, that's even when running MSN and CallerID2Voice App in the background. And I can still get hours out of it when using it. Just recharge it every-night. I doubt your dad will be a smartphone addicted guy.

Hey,
Thanx...no he isn't a smart phone addicted guy. But the battery was so obvious an issue, I had to ask the experts here. Also, what exactly do you mean by 'calibrated'?
I mean, I have been an Android user before, but not quite sure what calibration is ?
He is a simple user with checking some mails everyday, music and some websites may be...thats about it, HTC Sense and all makes no difference to him actually...
If its battery life your after, buy a Johns Phone, you get 3 weeks between charges.
After you battery has been "run in" and calibrated you will get at least a day with light usage. Remember this is a powerful smartphone.

The battery calibration concerns only those who are using a custom rom. (here's a short article with app that does it for you if you're interested). I wouldn't recommend the DHD for my own father. Whatever you do to it you'll almost always have to charge it overnight, with stock rom it could be even twice a day. This isn't a problem for smartphone enthusiasts, but for oldschool people (like my father) who think phones should last a week without charging this can be quite off-putting. The DHD is also starting to get kinda old already, so you might wanna take a look at some newer phones. A good alternative could be the Desire S, as it has almost the same features with a slightly better battery.
And to those who can't admit that the DHD has bad battery life I just have to say that the out-of-the-box battery life could and should be a lot better. To get it lasting as it should takes a bit of effort which shouldn't be required from a normal user.

Thanx so much...that was really helpful...albeit your explanation on battery life, I just wanted to add that he was in love with the 4.3 inch screen...and only HD7 is the other device with that screen size...So I think Desire S is also a good option...let me check with him...
Again, Thanx!
depend on what you consider a good battery life, some may say getting a day is good enough, but some define good as atleast 2 days.

Absolutely right. I'm tired of hearing people evangelising that the DHD's battery is fine. It patently is not. Even when you severly rein back the device's features (features which HTC flaunted to get us all hooked), one ends up with 25-30% at the day's end.... And if you have a 'heavy' day of calls/browsing etc, you'll have to top up to get through the day.
But I still regard HTC as just about the best of a bad bunch...
Ok, sorry to hijack this thread a little.
The battery is fine, there are no issues with the battery. Your problem with the battery is that its small. Before you bought the phone did you not look into the battery capacity? I did, I knew it was smaller than the Desire's battery. Out-of-the-box it will act like any other lithium-ion battery that is just out-of-the-box. That "bit of effort" , what, plugging in your charger when it requires a charge.
These guides to correctly charge lithium-ion batteries are largely mumbo jumbo (charge to 100%, turn off, charge again for 250,000 hours, turn on, drain battery, rinse & repeat). Just charge it overnight, when your asleep.
Any smartphone with comparable usage will last around the same time and require a daily charge. If you want a phone that will last days between charges, don't buy a smartphone.
If you turn off all the bells & whistles, use 2G only and use it only for calls & sms', just like a regular phone. It will last days between charges.
If you want a powerful smartphone with a large screen, and lots of features, your battery is going to pay for it.

I'm not sure anybody on this forum expects days of use between charges - we're not daft. What I expect is to not have power-saving mode kick in by late afternoon when I'm nowhere near a charger, and I've not used the thing particularly heavily.
It's not right to conclude that others didn't read up on the battery before purchasing. You have no basis for drawing such conclusions.
HTC marketed the DHD on the basis that it's architecture was such that it didn't need a higher-capacity battery to do its job. Based on the fact that I'd had pretty good experiences with my previous HTCs, I saw no reason to doubt this.
In any case, just because you don't mind charging your phone part-way through a day, doesn't mean that everybody else should be happy with that.
I don't Say ! ^^

That's why I said that there are "oldschool people" (like my father) who think the battery should last a week. I don't mind charging the phone every night, but there are people who can't cope with such a "short" battery life. That's why the battery life of the DHD should be taken under consideration when buying a new phone.

I didn't mean that the battery was bad quality or anything, just that it is a bit too small for such a powerful phone. And yes I was aware of the battery capacity and I don't mind, but again there are people that require more from their phones.
And the instructions to close connections when you're not using them and turning down the screen brightness etc. are plain stupid. I bought a smartphone so that I can get my email whenever and wherever and to enjoy the big screen and not so that I can receive emails only when I choose to and so that I have to squint to see something from the screen when the brightness is set to the lowest. This is just a couple of the features I need ofcourse, but for me it's important to always receive emails instantly and not only when I can afford to spend some battery on internet connection.
When I was still running stock rom I could barely get through a day at work (8 hours). I had mobile network on the whole time and the screen brightness set at about 50% (which I think should be used at 100% all the time to really enjoy the screen) I talked for about half an hour during the days, sent 10 texts and listened to music/played/surfed on the internet for about 3 hours in all. When I got home I had to charge it. This ofcourse is everything one could need, but there are smartphones with better battery life.
Now of ofcourse when I have a custom rom that's tweaked and everything there's no problem with battery life, but that shouldn't be necessary to do and it's quite a lot to ask just so you can have a decent battery life. That's why I was talking about out-of-the-box battery life.

If you want to receive emails and text, I find that GSM is fine for that. If you want to go internet browsing, just switch on to 3G.
Smartphones these days have basically a different definition of battery life to the old nokia symbian and similar phones of old. Those could go up to a week. Smartphones on the other hand are considered awesome if they can last 3.
I do have to say ultimately I think HTC sold the battery life a bit short on the DHD. 1230mah I think is really just making way for all the other top-of-the-line features that it had when it came out.
HTC have released a great number of variants of this phone now, all with better iterations of design and also with bigger batteries because of this.
1400-1500mah (or even above) I think is really what you need with a 4.3" display phone. 1230 would be far more acceptable for a <4" display. Although it can be made quite livable for a day or two with an excellent custom rom, I don't really think it's enough for a basic consumer using the standard rom. That and the speaker/audio out are the two biggest pitfalls of the DHD imo.
Sensation is now HTC's newest 4.3" phone which has a good 1500mah battery. I hope Sense 3.0 doesn't wear it down too fast!
Ultimate thoughts: Although it's a great phone, I think it's a power user's phone more than anything. You will definitely only get the best out of it by customising to it's best potential, which is also when you get acceptable battery life. If you don't, it really does seem a waste.

I had the same sort of expectancy out of the battery using it moderately during a day at work out of the box. However with custom ROM installed I have found the battery to last easily the whole day with the same usage and probably have approx 40 - 50% left after 15hrs on battery.

I am extremely sorry but I disagree with u completely. You are talking as if you buy an expensive car but dont drive it too much as it eats a lot of fuel. If you want to just drive around, why dont you just get yourself a mopet. The point is, i have bought an expensive car TO DRIVE it around. If I buy a smartphone and not use its SMART features, why am I buying it for??? If I practically shut all the reasons why I bought this phone, WHY the hell am I buying it??
There is an old saying that comes to mind that it takes guts to stay in the minority. If the battery is flawed, ACCEPT it.
Anyways, I have got my answer. Thanx for your reply nonetheless.
As everyone says depends on usage.
For one thing i went from 80mA down to 8mA just by updating the radio which came stock.
Now with a different rom and kernel I get -1mA on standby, juicedefender is also a nice app. The battery life depends on your setup though, I easily get 2 days of moderate use/music/games/calls etc.

Hey thanx man...But was just wondering, with very moderate usage, will it still be over in no time?
Also, the other thing worrying me is the memory card issue...I cant afford to lose one card after another once I buy an expensive phone, u know what I mean...
The battery life is acceptable with moderate use on stock rom, if you're a power user you will have to stay close to a charger
There's no memory card issue from the DHD's part, it's just the crappy "freebie" sdcard (samsung?) which comes with the phone that stops working. The people who are complaining that the DHD breaks sdcards are those who buy cheap, bad quality sdcards or get a warranty replacement for the original one, which will be just as bad. The solution to this is to buy a better quality microsd card (costs about 15€) if the original stops working. Mine's still working great though.

After receiving a replacement 'new' phone, and having problems with my SD Card from the very second it switched on, I complained to HTC about the issue and the man on the end of the phone admitted around 500,000 phones that had been dispatched has been shipped with KNOWN issues & SD Card incapabilities. If you went out today and bought a brand spanking new card, in theory the phone WOULD NOT and the SD Card WOULD NOT fail.

I don't mean to hijack you here mate, but you assume/claim that:
'HTC marketed the DHD on the basis that it's architecture was such that it didn't need a higher-capacity battery to do its job.'
Well I take it that you assume this on the basis that Leprechauns are real and are roaming New York city as we speak? If HTC were doing any market research at all, they would realize that even devices with smaller screens have a bigger battery than the one they have put into the DhD, including the Desire Z & Desire's batteries?
I remember when I was looking at reviews for the original Desire, as I fancied one, the main complaints were the battery life, and the fact people only got a day's charge on it. So I thought fair do's, big screen, big price to pay? If HTC had done any research, they would have realized that people wanted better battery life, a better quality screen, better sound quality?
You want to know what the real reason is behind HTC putting a small battery inside the Device? Well it's the fact that the entire thing was rushed, and I mean rushed? There's evidence of this in the build quality, the software, the placing of different things within the phone and also the bad batch issues HTC experienced.
The HD was leaked in September/October, it was released by November, this is not normal for any device that becomes 'leaked'. HTC used a bad screen, imported most of the software from the original Desire, obviously making edits to make it Sense 2.0, but you can clearly see they didn't change everything? If you set the Android Pattern Lock Screen, you can see that it doesn't fill the whole screen, the IME is the standard HTC one with some arrows slapped in at the bottom? They didn't even change the size of the keyboard?, this is more evident if you use the IME in landscape mode, its hard.
What sort of company places an Antenna in the Battery Cover? It's true, remove your Battery Cover and you'll loose all signal? Pretty risky move for HTC, seeing as the Battery Cover is VERY easy to 'accidently' break, and frankly your screwed then right? It's like they designed the phone, forgot the Antenna, then quickly though 'Where the f*** is this going?' and decided to place it there? In my opinion, and a few others, they did this with the battery, they made the device too thin, and in reality they just couldn't fit everything in. The Desire S which is slightly thicker, packs a brilliant battery. Problem solved.
The build quality of the phone, is not one of a £500 price tag. Some parts of the phone squeak whereas others just do not feel adequate to the pricing of the device. There again we live in a world where no matter how much you pay, something always seems to be wrong.
Sorry if I have offended any HTC lovers, all attacks on my and opinions against me are welcome, don't get me wrong, I love my phone and I can cope with charging the battery every night. Chao.
Garbage battery life...I mean just pathetic. Yet it's so beautiful... How did this go wrong?
That stuff aside. Is the watch worth getting? (Serious)
I dunno man, it sounds to me like the battery, although not amazing, is not as bad as initially reported.
As with any tech device, the first couple charges are not at its peak performance.
As for me, the first one I bought sold on ebay so I'm gonna get another to keep, for free!

Are you a lite or heavy user?
I have only had it for 24 hours total. I have screen off. Off charger since 615AM today and its now 240PM. Moderate use, playing with faces, reading and sending about 20msgs total...reading news on it....and its at 44%. I am going to give it a full week before I make up my mind on it. If it can go a full day, then I am happy with it. I knew going in it wasnt going to be 2+ days of usage. Its not a Pebble. It has an AMAZING screen.
PS. Even with the screen off, I have had 10+ people ask me what watch that is. It is a beautiful watch. And some of the people asking having 10k+ watches that they are wearing and said it looked better than theirs. Imagine once some better faces come out for it.

Battery sucks if you drive or cause the acelerometer to pop constantly. Take your watch off before you drive until they have a car mode. Driving 3 hours is the only way I killed it within 16 hours.
I'm asking myself this question too, and I'm tending towards "No." Motorola need to have a very quick rethink, and rework this thing with a CPU that is on a newer process, and preferably a higher charge-density on the battery pack too.
Shoving a five-year-old, inefficient 45nm processor from 2009 (http://newscenter.ti.com/index.php?s=32851&item=125993) into a 2014-15 season smartwatch was a terrible, terrible idea. We should be on a 22nm or perhaps even a 14nm process by now. 45nm is a 2007 process, and it's hopelessly inefficient compared to today's tech.
There's a reason we didn't have smartwatches in 2007-2009, and making one in 2014 with technology from then is insanity.

The SoC is only one component in what is a cohesive design. Is it a weak spot? Sure. Is it a deal breaker? Maybe. I'll have to wait til mine gets here to give it a good testing and see how it works for my lifestyle. But from what the majority of people are saying, the way I will likely use it, I'll get plenty of battery life and a quality, smooth user experience even with the old SoC.
So, seems to me, if my needs are met as a consumer it doesn't matter much what timestamp is on the chip.

Battery life from most user reports and early reviews is pretty dismal, and that's when the watch is brand new. Unless you plan on replacing it every 12 months, you need to be thinking about battery life not now, but once the battery has degraded for 18 months or two years -- by which time you're going to be needing to recharge in the middle of the day.
For a $100-150 product, this would be great. For $250 to $300 depending on strap, it's totally unacceptable.
Yeah I can't believe they went with that old POS processor....the videos I've seen of the watch lagging just make me cringe, it could have been so much better! Was it really that hard to put a Snapdragon 400 in there? And I was really hoping for a higher PPI screen, or at least AMOLED.
However, I still will be getting one. I know it will die quicker and lag more than a LG G Watch, but damnit at least it'll look good while doing it.

This. 1000x this.
I would rather have my 360 and charge it daily than have a brick on my wrist that lasts a few days.
I loved my Pebble, but it was not one bit attractive. Its an easy trade off to make. I charge my phone daily, I charge my laptop daily, what's the problem with charging a watch daily?
I'm kinda disappointed with the SoC they have chosen and the not as good battery life.
But I'll get one anyway cause it just looks really sexy.
I have no problems with battery life. 14 hours off the charger yesterday evening, I was at 50%. Better than my phone battery. Ambient mode off, moderate use.
I've chuckled at a few comments in this thread... Unacceptable this, unforgivable that, this is the first android watch worth buying so far. Its the first that actually looks like a ... Oh dare I say watch and something a normal non-ubernerd would wear. Its like the ecogeeks that love how all the prius' look. The industry finally got to the point you could drive a hybrid without looking like you're actually out hugging trees. I have the watch there is no unbelievable epic lagging and even if there was some lag... Its a watch. Not a quad core 3 gb ram uber phone but a watch. Sure they could have gone with a better chip but battery life is typical for an android watch for the most part. It isn't some great travesty and moto cover up a lot of cost likely went into the design creation and marketing of this watch and as such some corners had to be shaved. If they had put in a better chip and if they could have fit a bigger battery in you'd have a larger watch ... Wait for the omgs flying at that point or a $100 price difference that again y'all would be whining about. I love it could it be better yes but that's where version 2 and 3 come in. What phone do you own for 2+ years.... None you upgrade why would a first edition smartwatch be ANY different?
^ I echo a lot of this. The majority of people including myself could not even conceive what goes into developing a product like this. Since when did everyone become so spoiled lol. There's a computer on your wrist! It's an amazing feat! If you want the perfect device then wait a few years, in the meantime I'm gonna enjoy an incredible piece of tech

Because it is a waste of materials and very obvious spoon feeding of tech. Using an old processor? Why? Just recycle them an use a current one.
This has nothing to be with being spoiled, this has to do with principle. Why on earth make a nice new product with old under powered tech? It is a waste of a product.
Hi Guys!
I'm currently looking for a new phone. I can only buy midrange phones atm and since the G4 and S6 are released, I expect both of their predecessor's price will go lower. Apparently, I'm torn between the previous flagships, G3 and S5, which is still of course still capable now. I really like the G3 over the s5 but I am bothered by the battery life that most people say is bad. I mostly need the phone to school at around 12 hrs off the charger. At school I usually just text and call a few times, take pictures and notes, occasional time wasting games on breaks and also I listen to music on trips to and from school [approx 1.5 hrs of music]. My question is, will the G3's battery be capable of that amount of usage? Or will I benefit on the S5 on this? Thanks in Advance!

That's very similar to my daily usage pattern and my G3 never died on me. You can expect between 4-5h of screen on time. It really depends on your signal, if you live in a poor signal area, any phone will take a hit in battery life.
The majority of people who complain about G3's battery life came from a G2 or similar phones, and they're used to getting 6+ h of screen on time. For them, it was a downgrade in the battery department.

Now I'm starting to get really excited to get this phone more, well, another question, are there any major gripes on this phone? Also coming from an old phone with a really mediocre battery life (Xperia Sola), I think the battery life of this is definitely enough. Based on what I read before, It's mostly the battery, but as you said, based on my usage, I would get throughout the day easily, so the batteries are crossed out. Any other major thing (flaw?) you would say?

It's all relevant, some things that annoy some people might not be an issue for others, and vice versa.
For me, there are 2 things i don't like about the G3, but they are not that big of a deal, i can live with them. The first is i would've liked if the display can get a bit brighter (especially on very sunny days). The second, coming from the last 4 generations of nexus devices, i miss the software fluidity of stock android, despite that i appreciate some of the feature additions LG has thrown in their "skin".
All in all, i would take the G3 over the Galaxy S5 anytime.
Ok, I went to a local LG store in my place and played on the LG G3 a bit. The G4 was there, and I'm drooling over it, the leather back was so nice. Ok ok back to my question. After using it for a few minutes, I noticed the brightness to be low and I checked it, it was at 90%. My problem is as I am trying to increase it, there's a warning shown that the temp was high so I can't increase it more. My question is, does it happen often? The overheating?
As an LG G 3 power user I can confirm that the phone will indeed heat up from time to time, however, the phone you played with was most likely plugged in to a charger from what I can read.
Any phone that's being charged up and used at the same time will get hot, it simply puts more strain on the battery.
You should be able to get the 12 hours you need out of your device on a full charge, especially with the power save g to that come with it, however don't expect do go a full day (24hrs) without it having to hit the cradle.
I hope this helps.

Indeed it was plugged. So I guess it is indeed because of that. It's ok for me if I need to charge it everyday, as long as it can last for 12 hrs. Thanks!

You can expect much much much better battery life with G3 or S5 than your soon-to-be-ex-phone Xperia Sola.
Both G3 and S5 almost the same battery life, even though G3 is better in standby time.
If you buy G3, immediately update it to latest version. Your phone will not overheat ever, like mine never did
Only hard gaming for a 1hr+ time can make it overheat.
Well...Depends. I don't think it'll last for 12 hours. You get 5hours of SOT only on the lowest brightness setting, higher the brightness lower the SOT. For me in school it lasts for 8 hours max, then gotta charge it. Also it's true I'm using it most of the time for 4G so that may be why.

I really think it's battery life would be enough, as what you all said, also since I can manage to use my sola for that amount of time which has a ridiculously short battery life. Hahaha! XD. Also thanks for the info! I'll definitely update it, to get a taste of the lollipop's sweetness.

I only use 3g (H+ is enough for me), so definitely/ probably I can get it pass that 12 hr mark. Signal was a bit of a problem though at school, since the school is near a jail, they seem to have network jammers installed. Weird.
Is the G4 really this bad? I bought one a few days ago, coming from the G2. I'm waiting for it to settle in but damn.. this thing goes through 3000mah like a fat kid through candy. My G2, now 2 years old lasts twice as long SOT. 6 hours to 3. I just.. I want to love the 4, but it is just too power hungry. Does this beast settle down over time? I have a week more to return it for something else, and on the verge.
Since firmware v10c there's a problem with GPS sucking battery. Try setting it to “battery saving“. Perhaps this improves things...
Yeah. Read that. Shouldn't have to turn everything down or off in 2015. I so love this phone but wow. The battery is nonsense. I went to it because my G2 was/is a champ. What is going on with this thing?
The battery in the g2 is much better, but finding a flagship from 2015 with a better battery than the g4 (and a comparable camera, screen, size etc.) is impossible.
It charges more than one percent per minute with6a normal charger, and you can buy a spare battery and a fast charger but the sot isn't going to get much better than what you're expering now. It's still the best phone ever imho.

I got a free battery with it, and the charging cradle. Which is nice. I guess I just got spoiled. The G2 is so awesome, and I expected this to be the same. It's not. Not even close. I bought this G4, a Note 5 and an S6 at the same time. Both Sammy's perform much better, and that pains me to say. Ugg.

You could help if you complain to LG about the GPS battery drain problem like me and others did already. Try “battery saving“ on GPS and post your results afterwards. With a decent screen brightness, I always get 4+ hours Screen on time. Not playing games or doing heavy battery draining tasks, though.

Man oh man, you are having better luck than I am. I might have a faulty unit, not sure, but the battery on this one is like driving an old car with a big V8. When you stomp on the gas you can literally see the gas gauge go down before your eyes. This phone is no different. My G2 was honestly 3X better than the G4. Good luck to you guys, and I mean that sincerely, I do. But I'm returning this thing. For me, at least... it is a pass.

I get as good if not better battery life on here than my g2/g3...a few kernel tweaks with kernel adiutor and using greenify to settle hungry apps...i highly recommend keeping g4 as you won't find much better battery without a lower end processor

Kind of the point though. I shouldn't have to tweak settings, and root a brand new phone to make it work. I'm not here to bash the G4 (I own it) but it stinks.. Ok.. bashed it lol. Seriously. I have the exact same apps loaded on it as my G2 and if sucks battery like a $2 hooker. The Camera is good, not sure as great as was reported. The speaker was kind of bashed from the reviews but I think it is AWESOME! So loud. But... battery. Nope. I don't care if they give me 40 free ones to swap, I shouldn't have to.

That's kind of what I meant. With my debloated, greenified, taskered, tweaked and optimized g2 I got sot of up to 10 hours, the g4 gives me 4-5. Except from every test ever and every user experience, I think not even LG tries to pretend that the g4 has the slightest chance to reach sot like the g2 did. You're the first person to say so ever, so I assumed the only explanation could be that your sot on the g2 were mediocre.

If you got 10 hours sot with g2 you were heavily underclocked and at that rate wtf is the point...i actually got a much smoother experience and better battery life by raising the min clock on big and little cores as with the stock settings both jumped around ridiculously chewing up battery on simple processes...we shouldn't have to root to fix anything but it's never the case...and getting 21 hours out of my g4 with 6 hours sot with browsing some gaming and lots of youtube vids I'm beyond impressed...h811 has no custom kernel yet so no undervolt is present...this phone will just continue to get better imo...i cant believe the complaints i see about a device that surpasses 95% of anything on the market

If you don't use auto, what manual settings for brightness would you normally use on the G4 ? Mention the figure in % or the range.
Are you on wifi or data, mixed ? what share each.
i gather you are on H815.
hey there @android404 mind sharing your g2 setup for those 10 hours and screen brightness also? i'm thinking my g2 might be a lemon i never reach even 6 hours with no heavy usage but i am on stock rom and kernel and i don't even use greenify i have no problem rooting it so please can you tell me your rom kernel clocks and whatnot? thx in advance.
Update. I went for broke and did a factory reset before I was forced to return it. Seems to have made a world of difference. Now it is performing the way I would expect it too. Not as good as the G2, but not draining before my eyes. I think something must have been borked. I'm going to be cautiously optimistic atp, but I have a week more of daily use to play with it. (Might get an extension) but so far, in the last 26 hours it is night and day difference. Whew. Really didn't want to take it back.

Normally keep it at 60% and mix between wifi and data but 75% of time it is on wifi. H812.
Yeah. Much better. Been unplugged for 10.5 hours and sot is just over an hour. 84% battery left. Same usage before the reset and it would have already been next to dead. Something was mucked up. I take back what I said before. This is what I expected.

Glad to hear it...i hate to see people leave for bad experience on a device that has such potential...development is slow atm but once cm gets stabilty and a few more variants have unlock/workaround this device will gain notoriety like the g2 had and the g2 was a beast...was my favorite device to date and i see the same potential here
Hi
I'm thinking to switch from a note 4 to a LG G4 but before I wanted to decide on want to ask the G4 users how there experience is with the phone. How is battery life and heat with this phone? How is camera?
I'm a moderate gamer but I watch often movies on my phone. S pen is not that important for me
the biggest problem of LG G4 is only about battery. I personally just can achieve 4-6 hours of battery life. My G4 was worked normally until last week: the temperature became 60'C, always restarting when overheated (now my G4 is at LG Service Center). Camera is absolutely the best, even note5 can't beat it. Screen size is only 5.5, so if you came from Note3 or Note4, you'll miss roomy screen. So, if you need best camera, buy it, otherwise upgrade to other phone IMHO
I dont know how battery life will improve with the marshmallow update. I just updated yesterday so time will show that. I would say battery life is about 4-5hrs SOT. If you are used to longer screen on time you might be in for a suprise. However the camera is the best i have seen. I don't know how it would compare to the note 5. Another device worth looking at is the Nexus 6P. It is up there with the best so maybe go into a store and check it out. Bottom line im happy with my LG G4. No lag at all

I came from a Note 4. I loved my Note, but figured out, that after a while I didn't need the S-Pen anymore.
The G4 is not as "Productive" as the Note, but comes along with an awesome camera and, if you're rooted and got the right apps on you phone, with a good battery life.
In fact, I'm happy to have changed from Samsung to the G4, but it's surely a question of taste, too. But I can recommend it. I'm super satisfied Cheers

I have no heat problems and as I said: Battery life is good for me. Usually I have 2 days until I have to charge my phone again (If I'm not using it very often).
Otherwise I have to charge it every 24 hours, if I'm using it alot.
I think there's no big difference between the battery life of the Note 4 and the G4. I usually had to charge both phones at night, which is pretty much ok for me.
If I had to make a choice I'd say the LG G4 lasts a little longer (if rooted) Cheers
EDIT: If I'm power using it I get like 5-6 hours SOT, which is also similar to the Note 4
Remember results may vary.
The guy above me is getting 5 -6 hours SOT. But for me I can only achieve that when I am at home on wifi all day. And maybe the same is true for follow_and_feel. So it really depends on your day to day activities.
In a nutshell. If you're in a area with spotty connectivity, battery life will take a huge plummet. On work days my building is in a spotty area, and the phone lasts me until the end of the day with maybe 5-10%. With 3ish hours SOT under my belt. If the network wasn't spotty I'd probably look at 4 hours or more.
The only time I experience heat is under heavy usage, very spotty areas, or while using a garbage app like snapchat. Otherwise on normal day to day use with messaging, browsing, social media, the odd video here and there the phone stays cool.
Camera on this bad boy is out of this world. I've seen some of the shots people have taken and they look very professional. To the average person, they would barely be able to tell the difference between a G4 picture and one taken with a proper camera. The camera is probably the biggest selling point.
Lastly gaming. Gaming is a no no. Battery goes down very fast, and the phone eventually heats up as well. You can get away with some light games like Clash of Clans but don't expect the battery to hold up. The GPU is weaker than it's hot headed older brother (Snapdragon 810). If gaming is very big for you, I'd honestly say get the Note.
Videos is not an issue though. You might get some warmth though but nothing major
