Hi guys,
Firstly, I am sorry if my english is bad, I will make grammatical error please excuse me for that
Secondly, here's my question : About the waterproof. Is it good ? I mean I read on other thread that it was not the greatest thing but I want to know more about that, should I avoid full immersion for example ? Or for too much time ? If I can immerse it in water, what should I do to keep it safe ?
Thanks in advance for your answer !

I've had my phone for a year now and it is still water proof. first thing I did when I bought it was put it in the sink and run water on it to test if it's really waterproof. then I took it to the beach and went swimming/snorkeling with it. took it to the pool, under the rain, basically any wet, low pressure water. so I'd say it's pretty water proof. just remember to wash/rinse in with fresh water if you submerge it to anything but fresh water(say sea water) to avoid corrosion.

no water in mine so far. and as profiler said, it's a lottery thing. I might have been lucky with my z1c but some other unlucky folks have had trouble with just tap water.

Well, for my own experience I'd say that waterproof is one the worst thing ever on phones. At least in this one.
First of all, audio isn't loud enough, and mic is affected as well. Other than that, it's easier the overheat for the phone.
Then I want to say what happened to me. Basically my phone after not more than a month wasn't waterproof anymore. It was clearly a factory problem so I sent the phone in warranty. What they said is pathetic: they can't fix your phone or change it if it's water damaged, even if it wasn't your fault!
And since Sony's behaviour is unacceptable, if you really care, don't test if it's actually waterproof.
Sorry for my English, hope u understood what I was trying to say.
I would not count on it. There are a lot of reports where people lost their phone to water.
If you really need it to be water proof you should test it right away when you dont have a lot of personal stuff on it!
In the end it is always electricity and water. Never a good combination
My one was waterproof to the point i could go diving and take it out to sea but then after months of use and the many times ive dropped it i rinsed it under a tap and my screen had water damage. The metal exterior doesnt help things. Otherwise it was fun while the waterproof lasted, its still alive but one more dive will drown it.
Sent from my D5503 using XDA Free mobile app
I have rinsed mine under the tap lots of times to get sand off of it.
It has survived being dropped in the bath on several occasions.
It should be able to cope with the day to day usage that involves getting wet, ie by a swimming pool, knocking your coffee over on it, dropping it down the loo etc etc.
I'm not sure about taking it diving.
Looking at the replys here, I'd say that you're ok to assume that it will withstand the odd dunking without any problems.
NO.
Quite simply, no. Carried mine around in the outer pocket of a non-waterproof jacket, in the rain. Phone dead with water damage. Sony told me water damage is not covered through warranty. So, no more Sony devices for me, given the record of other Sony devices in this household, and associated responses from Sony customer "service".

Just dropped my Desire in a glass of Tia Maria and coke. Lesson learnt. Don't drink girl drinks!
It only went about half way up the length of the phone. Only problem seems to be my trackpad gets a bit stuck sometimes which sends the phone mental. Wish I took insurance lol!
ouch, I feel for ya man.
I love my desire but... damn that must be a big glass for the phone to be able to fit in that!
Ean you not take out insurance now ? Then if you accidently dropped in a drink again, say in a months time you would be covered ?..... just a thought
Ok thought I left it to dry for long enough but now its turning itself off! Oh dear.
Just a thought... you don't pay for one of those back accounts with extras, do ya?

Switch the phone off and take out the battery. Then store it in a bowl of rice in a dark area for 12-24 hours and hopefully that will fix the problem.
Terrible thing to happen to a new phone though =/
Tia Maria is sticky. Anyone know if rinsing in clean water and then drying in rice would be a better tactic for the OP?

Absolutely not. Rinsing it in water is a sure fire way to destroy the phone.
Tia Maria stains anything it spills on to so you better have cleaned it straight away. You're best bet is to use some kind of alcohol based cleaner. An easy thing to get would be baby wipes. Get the cheapest available (They usually have alcohol!) and use it to clean the phone but first of all dry it in rice.
You *can* rinse it with distilled water and not damage the phone so long as you allow it to dry. You'd have to pull it apart to do this with any confidence. The rice trick works too. It's saved many pc components for me in the past .
you fool, what are u doing with desire near a drink for
Probably trying to get that girls number xD.
Home insurance?
your usually covered up to so much for items taken out of the household.
I would guess your phone is covered in that too?
there is a trick to this. contrary to popular belief, water doesn't conduct electricity. it's the minerals desolved in it that do.
when an electrical item is submerged in liquid it is either damaged immediately by short circuits or it is left malfunctioning due to mineral deposits being left behind when the liquid evaporates.
distilled water which contains no minerals can be used to rinse electrical devices.
you must have good quality distilled water in a plastic container. don't be tempted by de-ionised water, It's not the same. cut the top off the plastic container with the water still in it, spilling as little as possible and soak the device in it.
I obviously need to say that you do this at your own risk. I have successfully done this 3 times but, if there were say, heat transfer compound somewhere on a heatsink and you washed it away that would be bad.
a. better approach may be to check your home contents insurance, many policies cover mobile phones.
edit: if it had not taken so long type all that on my desire I wouldn't have been 4 posts behind by the time I submitted it!
Sent from my HTC Desire using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
Yup that's why I said distilled .
Deionised might actually be ok. You can't short anything as it isn't running. Even if you were to use distilled water you could still short your board as it will have impurities like dust. Deionised water contains other impurities though like micro organisms but that's not going to be an issue for a simple rinse. The cost between the two isn't that big so just use distilled.

Shame Buddy... make sure you clean the battery contacts on the battery and on the phone with a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol to maximize the efficiency of energy transfer and remove any liquid residue.
actually, to add to this, strictly speaking there is no impurities (like dust) in distilled water, but of course, there will be dust etc inside your desire. you can buy canisters of de-ionised gas (look up ambersil) for blowing away dust with no static discharge (static potential difference stabilization) which could otherwise damage your device.
I have to buy about a gallon of distilled water each year (strange I know but I age quality cigars and distilled water is necessary) it can be hard to get as the old fashioned source for car battery top up has all but vanished as everyone uses de-ionised water for that now (remember that de-ionised water still contains conductive minerals and is defo no good). I have discovered that strange older peops with beards who like to play with toy trains buy Hornby distilled water so that their toy trains can produce steam without getting clogged with mineral deposits. this product is good old fashioned distilled water and believe me when I say that if it's good enough for ageing thousands of pounds worth of the finest Cuban stock it is 100% pure distilled H2o. it is readily available on the intertweb. took me a good couple of days on Google to find this source.
I still think your contents insurance is the best bet and you should consider this a last resort but to give you an idea of how true this is, my nephew crashed a radio controlled aeroplane into a sheep dip and it remained 5 feet under for 48 hours and I got all his radio gear going again using distilled water.

Deionised water doesn't have any charged particles so it won't conduct a charge.

Well if you're someone that is going to need this serious of water protection and want it done right, you'll be happy to spend a few days away from your phone to have it done.
I don't personally have a need for this, but I'm sure there are many that do.
The thunderbolt video looked a little iffy, the touchscreen was going crazy and after he pulled it out of the water, it was giving an SD card error.

The touchscreen going crazy doesn't really mean much...the screen is capacitive, so it would respond to the water just like a finger (since the water would be conducive to the electrical impulses in the piping, his finger, etc...).
The problem with the SDCard is worrying, but I'm not sure why anyone who would *need* this kind of water protection wouldn't just buy a tough phone. I had one when I was on AT&T and I've left it at the bottom of a pool for a day, frozen it in ice, thrown it more times than I could count (I pitched and played left field in college...so it wasn't a short throw), and run it over with cars...it still works perfectly.
Point is, this kind of treatment is kind of meaningless. Anyone that needs it would just buy a phone properly created to sustain that kind of punishment, and anyone that didn't would have no reason to do it.

The touchscreen is just responding to electrical impulses transfered via the water. Not a big deal.
The error was for the SIM card, not SDcard. Many modern HTC devices put the antennas solely in the back cover, so when you remove it, it has no service except emergency calls.

I'm skeptical. If it were possible to waterproof electronics completely using their process, I can't believe that their little company hasn't been snapped up by one of the big manufacturers, who could then release a whole line of waterproof products and make billions on everything from computers to toys.

I disagree...having two kids and living in a wet area, if there really was a way to waterproof electronics using a thin coating that would allow complete immersion without damage, I'd be willing to pay a premium for items that are treated in that way, and I bet a lot of other people would, too.
I killed my SE X10 after dropping it in a sink of dishwater, and was pretty devastated by the total loss of the device....I've also had a Nintendo DSi end up in a bathtub and a Game Boy ruined by ending up in the bottom of a swimming bag under wet towels. Waterproofing would rawk, if it existed.
But I'm not sending my Gnex off to be coated and then taking the risk of immersing it to test it out, knowing that the warranty on it is void the instant I drop my precious phone off at the post office...
I'd be interested to see if it actually works. It intrigues me.

Every time I switch on my phone I get the message "Please close the external connector covers to secure waterproofing"

Thanks

it should pop up everytime you disconnect power from the phone. . I don't think the phone actually knows when the flaps are open .. I tried repowering with my power flap off, it didn't warn me .. but when i connect/disconnect microusb it does..
This surely is just an important message to first time users... incase there is anyone stupid enough to immerse the phone in water with the flaps open.
You get these type of messages/notifications/tips with windows programs all the time. Tick the box so it doesn't bother you again - I also doubt whether the phone can tell if the flaps are open or shut (hence the initial notification) it almost certainly can't tell - they are just protective covers. This is just a 'take heed' notification. It popped up first time I use my phone - with flaps closed.
I think you are worrying incase the flaps aren't water-tight and a warning message is showing - not the case at all IMO.
I need to issue a warning.
Maybe only my unit has this problem but, nevertheless, take care.
So .. I took the phone to the pool and used it as a camera .. everything was OK.
One month later (last evening to be more exact) I simply washed the phone in warm water to clean it up (it had some chocolate traces on it ) ...
well ... now I have to send it to warranty because water got under the screen. The flaps were closed (actually I barely open the micro-usb one now and then ... because I also use a magnetic connector for charging it).
I suspect a manufacturing defect which allowed the water to get in from other locations than the flaps (in my case, I think the ear piece is the culprit).
Anyway .. take care ...

I use a underwater camerahousing for shooting, i always wonder how the flaps form z1c can prevent from waterdamage over a longer periode of time.
@my underwater camerahousing i remove the sealing ring (O-ring) when the housing is not used for >3months i clean it use siliconspray. And if there gets dirt on the O-Ring or get twisted on the housing->Water->Camera->:crying:
When i look at my z1c flaps, the O-Ring is full of dust and no one use a siliconspray. On the other side the waterpressure press the flaps on the phone.
I put this in a simple way: If the producer is advertising the phone as waterproof (under certain conditions) then it should meet the standards.
The concern is that it met the waterproofing requirements .. after all I took it to the pool twice and used it underwater ... no problem.
Now, a little bit later, only some spilled water on the phone (not even with pressure) found a way in ... this is outrageous.

You said "washed the phone in warm water", that doesn't suggest you only spilled a bit on it. If I drop my phone in a sink full of water, in the toilet or puddle and water gets in then I would have every right to complain, but I do find it hard to have sympathy for People who have "tested" the water proof capabilities.

The phone has IP58 certification, dust- and waterproof ... so it MUST sustain water on it, submerging totally in water, heavy rain or simply tap water. That why it had that certification in the first place.

That to me suggests you had a bowl/sink of warm water and washed it like a plate or something, if the Phone has flexed then in may have sucked it in, who knows. I think too many People put too much emphasis on "water proof" and get burnt in the process.
It was tap water ... warm, not hot, not cold .. room temperature ... not jet, spray mode. it was like a heavy rain if you want to associate the physical "impact".
No bending, not rubbing ...

My underwater camerahousing is Waterproof too, but only if i care about the cleaning/maintain rituals, they make the housing waterproof.
Same with the Parachute, yes it can save your life when you jump from the Plane, but only if you pack it right, maintain it and ensure that all ropes and the chute self are under good condition.
The phone was barely 1 month old. The seals were greased with silicone vaseline from day 1. I used a magnetic charger connector all the time.
More than that, I'm pretty sure the water did not got inside on the flaps but more through the ear piece. We'll see what the guys from the service will say. I'm very curious.

hey guys. I've got this phone for a month now but still haven't checked the waterproofness. Did you try it the first day you got it? should I be super careful with this? I'm scared. I even though it's advertised as waterproof..
Yeap, I've tried it underwater. The screen responsiveness changes, else everything works, including the camera.
not worth the risk, there are enough reports about water damage
I'm tried to test the limits of the phone (i know it could be ridiculous). So I've swum for more than an hour and the phone was under more or less 1,5 m (limit recommended by Sony). It has survived for a moment...Once out i dried it. It has worked for some hours until the battery comes empty. No way to charge it anyway, a component of my battery was dead...I've send it to repair center claiming I had only let it fall in water and they replaced it by a new one
moral of the history don't try to put it in the water just for fun
I have used mine on water several times for several hours, and it's still working fine.
In fact I have tried it the very first day, this way if it's waterproofing was flawed, I would have returned it under warranty.
Now that my phone is more than a year old, i am obviously less keen to put it under water.
I've made lots videos underwater. Dunk phone in beer, whiskey. Dropped it in river. It even got some salty water after i remembered it beeing forbidden.
The phone is waterproof. If not warranty replaces for free. If you got by third party then they often try to make some bs excuse not to deal with it.
The golden rule: if you use miniusb to charge you wear out the rubber flap and it will not be waterproof, if you use dock you won't have this problem.

That's a salesman tactic, but there's no guarantee. If you don't believe me, feel free to and go ahead and go nuts with your phone.
BTW, who told you it's under warranty? The sales staff? I personally asked a technical support person this question (in lieu of some other problems I had) this, and they said no, it's not covered under warranty.
You should be very careful if you try it underwater.. On my first time, the micro usb cover opened up and the phone was damaged, with no warranty by anyone ?
I had to open it up and dry it with hair dryer for an hour.. (and since then it's still non-waterproof)
Conclusion - be careful ?

My phone got damaged by water in the third time that I put it under water. Seems like due overheating (I was playing, charging and wearing a bumper case at the same time) the back and the back frame unglued in the Sim tray area. I remembered how the screen started to flick and how the water comes out from Sim tray ?. I used a hair dryer and at this moment the phone is working fine?. I replaced the back frame (also, it solves the gaps in the middle where are the magnetic charging and the Lock/Volume buttons). By now, I am waiting the rear cover, it should arrive in 15days. But after that bad experience I won't put the phone in water anymore.
Btw, does anybody knows if there's a difference between fresh water and seawater/ pool water?
I've been told from Sony that the warranty is only on fresh water damage..

Salt water leaves salty residue on the phone and is also more corrosive than fresh water. So, Sony won't cover damage in salt water.

I'm not going to dump it in the water on purpose I think. Even if it's sold as waterproof I'm scared. it was too expensive and it's too amazing phone to just kill it for no reason.
also yes I'm going to buy a dock asap.
thank you again guys!

About the dock.... It might be cheaper to just buy the mag cable if you want to use your phone while it's charging and save some money. Amazon has a few brands selling these types of cables or adapters when i last bought mine. Or you can check with the stores where you live.

Disclaimer: I am not responsible for any damage to your phone by doing this demonstration.
I am half-crazy/half-scared today and thought what kind of protection does my phone have? What if it rains and I want take a picture or video of a wonderful scene or event? What if I accidentally drop my phone on a puddle or in a sink filled with water? So without further ado, please watch this very short video that demonstrates the level of protection in the Le Pro 3.

IMHO, the phone may survive rainfall or quick dip in the water. The phone case may have helped as well. It feels good that our phone has this kind of protection when you need it. Again, I am not encouraging you to perform this test but just providing you some confidence that Le Pro 3 may survive accidental drop in or splash of the water.
P.S. The phone still works and I am still using it right after the test. No issue so far. =D

damn, that's to much of a risk.
I think for a sealed phone like this the most risk is the speakers.... I hope your speakers are functioning properly. I recommend doing a rice treatment just to be safe. Even if it looks okay for now, the moisture can sip in over time.

Or do an intensive benchmark so that heat will dissipate the moisture? I might do the rice trick later when I get home.
Quick update:
Phone still works 100%, even the speaker is as loud as before. And I did not do the rice trick yet. ^_^
You are great!!

That's quite impressive for such a low priced phone. Just icing on the cake!

I guess the Le Pro 3 has a typical IP53 certification but just not advertised.
P.S Phone still works 100%, now I am tempted to take it to the next level. =D

I would like to caution you one more time.
Most phones include a water damage sticker inside them, I think LP3 should also have one or two. Even if your phone works just fine, you might lose your warranty for future purposes, if those stickers get in touch of water.
Happy New Year!

How about testing without a case
Regardless, you are crazy, careless, or wealthy to risk this!

Let's be realistic here, do you use your phone without a case at all? I don't, because it needs to be protected from scratches, bumps and fall (my daughter dropped it already 3.5 feet face down on cement floor).
The case was never designed to protect Le Pro 3 from water test like this but may have helped somehow because water will pass through case holes first before going into the phone itself.
I maybe crazy or careless but not wealthy LoL.

This is my first most-expensive phone I have bought. (I know some of you American/European guys might be laughing at me but living in a country where an 'honors post-grad' earns average 600$/month and being married, it is hard to actually dedicate half of my monthly salary for buying a phone). I don't regret buying it but I agree with your every bit.
Thank you for testing this phone's resilience and reliability for rainy weather. Although camera isn't top notch but it will work for a carry-around instant snapshot purpose. (My G3 still beats this phone in camera quality but I care less, I don't even use camera at all )

No problem, have you tried Google Camera App? It will bring the IQ to few notches up up to level of Galaxy S6 or iPhone 7. Yes iPhone 7 IQ is horrendous by comparison even with Nexus 5X.
Hey guys,
today I dropped some beer over my Le Pro 3 and I instantly cleaned it (sucked out the liquid out of the charging port and speakers etc.)
But then I got a reboot from my phone, it says I'm out of battery (it got 40% at this moment)..
After reboot, my home button doesn't work anymore, no vibration, no interaction or something else..
I tried to dry it through put it in a bag of rice, but after 3 hours it doesn't changed the situation.
I'm now very desperately about this, do you guys got any tips for me?
Or should I just send it back through my reseller to LeEco for a retail?
Thank you for reading and replying to me!
Greetz
You could try the old trick of leaving your phone in a bag of rice over night to pull out all the moisture.
You can try to clean the usb c port, patiently and with care, with something very moist that can melt the sugars and absorb/remove all the beer residues on the contacts. Then dry out the area with the help of an hairdryer and try to turn on or reset your phone from recovery, if it starts! Good luck!

Good for you, the rice trick and hair blower saved mine last time when it plunged into a salty pool.
