[Q] I want to upgrade my firmware but i am S-ON - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys

I want to know something, can i upgrade my firmware(i am s-on) i want to have the wifi on the new lolilop rom but i can't
My wifi turn off automaticaly, i think that this is a firmware problem
So, can i upgrade my firmware with s-on ?
And if i can't, what can i do for have the wifi and the 5.0 ?
Thanks you guys

It depends on your region device. If there is a Lollipop OTA already out, you can update firmware even on S-On.
What's your current version ? Post fastboot getvar all result (delete serial no. & imei. no.)

Where have you been all this while ?
You already missed two major updates.
You have two choices (actually three choices but I keep one as I see that you're very new here)
1. Restore 2.22.401.5 backup and fastboot flash the stock recovery and do multiple OTA updates from 2.22.401.5 up to the latest lollipop 4.16.401.10
Here are the needed files : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54953139&postcount=1676
2. Make a backup of your internal storage as this will wipe everything in your device.
Relock bootloader and run RUU : https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B17smFr95pleeTQ5U1NzNkZzM0U/view
Up to you which you prefer.
Read on many threads about these, I have to be away for few hours. Any question hopefully someone else will assist you.
@nkk71 wrote about the 3rd option ... read : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=57756709&postcount=20

I prefer the first choice
Sorry but i'm new and i don't understand perfectly how i can restore a backup?
Can you explain to me please?
I have to go on my recovery TWRP and flash the 2.22.401.5_ckpv5.zip ?

Read this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/help-required-htc-m8-running-4-4-2-t3028351
On post #7 I mentioned how to. Just don't download that backup and recovery, use the one that I gave earlier.
He started with 1.60.708.2 but yours is 2.22.401.5, so change those numbers 1.60.708.2 with yours 2.22.401.5 when you read it.
Gotta go now ... good luck

Bro, thank's you sooooooo much love you

Noob needs help please! (soft bricked M8)

Hello guys,
I really hope you clever folks can help me out. I have a HTC M8 (UK O2, CID O2---001) That I had rooted and I wanted to OTA update it. I flashed a stock recovery to it etc but the update kept failing due to what I believe was the Harman Kardon mod.
To get around this I did an RUU firmware install, put OTA update on SD card and tried to update from stock recovery but the update keeps failing. :crying:
I really do not know what to do, if anyone can suggest a way to update with stock firmware or suggest a custom rom I can flash that will work with UK O2 M8 I will be so incredibly grateful!!
Thank you so much.
Post your fastboot getvar all result (minus serial no. & imei no.) then we can start something like a proper backup to restore.
Thank you for the fast reply.

It seems that you're device still on a very old firmware and missed 4 OTAs.
But you have a S-Off device, you can simply change your device to anything else other that O2.
If you still want O2, what you need to do is restore 1.54.206.5 stock backup and its stock recovery and do OTA.
You can get your needed files here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376
Use 1.54.206.5 - TWRP Thanks to Sensor1 --- in his link he has both TWRP backup and stock recovery.
Then do OTA to 1.54.206.10 --> 2.22.206.6 --> 3.32.206.9 --> 4.20.206.1
Thank you very much I will try as you suggest and post back.
Much appreciated.
Thank you thank you thank you ckpv5!!!
I did as you said and my phone is now updating OTA,
I am grateful to you for taking the time to help me out. :good: You are a legend.

any help would be appreciated.
Because your device is wrongly configured.
How can you have a device with EU MID but HKG CID then expect OTA to lollipop ?
How can you expect an OTA for Australia when your device not showing any Australia details ?
To have OTA you must have either of these CID/MID :
EU/EU
HKG/HKG
AUS/AUS
well that explains why, so how would i go about fixing this, all these numbers confuse the hell out of me.
You have to decide which region that you want your device to be ?
I don't think you originally have a AUS region. I believe it is a HKG device.
And I suggest to completely convert it to EU region which suit you more.
I'll tell you what to do after you made your decision.

ill go EU, i ordered phone online so its not from Australia. also i greatly appreciate any help you provide, possibly expect a donation from me
Your MID is ready for EU version.
What you need to do :
1. Copy all your important files from Internal Storage to PC as this procedure will wipe everything in the phone and you'll have a new out of the box phone with lollipop.
2. Download 4.16.401.10 RUU ZIP : https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B17smFr95pleU2NqcVB3NWxoNnM/view
rename it ruu.zip
3. Download htc_fastboot.exe : https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8L4pkbzdlR3eTlJSjdKVEdHX1U/view
4. Change your CID from HKG HTC__622 to SuperCID 11111111
boot your device to fastboot/bootloader and connect to PC where you'll see fastboot usb in red
run this command fastboot oem writecid 11111111
5. Put the downloaded htc_fastboot.exe at the same folder that you have your fastboot.exe; same goes the ruu.zip
6. Run this command
fastboot oem rebootRUU - this will put your device is RUU mode
htc_fastboot flash zip ruu.zip - this will erase everything in your device and replace it with the latest lollipop image
This process will take a few minutes, and the phone will reboot a few times but once done it'll say complete
7. Once completed, reboot run setup wizard ... done
8. Optional .. to flash a custom ROM, you need to install a custom recovery. I' using the latest TWRP 2.8.6.0
Note : there is no need to change your device from S-Off to S-On and there is no need to relock bootloader.
Credit to @EddyOS for the files from his thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2735235
Good luck ... I'll check your progress later when I'm home (in 3 hours)
downloading now, will report back shortly.
so far so good, up to the optimizing apps part, anything else i need to do? like change CID or anything? or will i be able to still get OTA updates in the future with 11111111?
No need to do anything else, leave it 11111111. You'll get OTA when there is one.
Thanks man, you literally have no idea I've been trying to figure all this out, enjoy the donation, don't go spending it all at once

Please could someone which firmware file I need to flash in order to get lollipop, ultimate goal is to install custom CM12. When ever I try to install CM12 via twrp when selecting and trying to install the package I get an error saying that I cant install due to bootloader being 3.16.0.0000 and need to update to 3.18.0.0000 or 3.19.0.0000 and have been told that I require a firmware update to get this? Is this correct?
Thanks

No WiFi after firmware update

Hi all, I seem to be going around in circles on this.
Basically I returned my M8 to stock and it was all working fine however was on an old version of android.
The phone said there was an update which I installed. Ever since the wireless will not turn on.
I have read some posts on here that if I could upgrade it to the next firmware level (2.26.61.1) the wireless would start working.
However you can only update over wifi or the pc link. I have tried to get the pc link to work. The best I got was the connection working and the download started but stayed at 0% so it clearly wasn't working.
I tried to browse the web also but that didn't work either.
I have done three factory reboots not and it will not enable.
Is there another way of tackling this?

Where to get latest firmware.zip for htc one m8

I have an htc one m8 ATT phone I want to install the ViperOneM8 5.02 rom on which says I need to update the firmware to a marshmellow firmware I think.
Or the latest.
While I have found some documentation how to do this on the net, I am not sure where I obtain these files.
The firmware.zip I believe it is
Help on this would be appreciated
Right now I am using hboot 3.16 and twrp 2.7
I found this link
http://android-revolution-hd.blogspot.com/p/android-revolution-hd-mirror-site-var.html
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=32780
and grabbed the 4.16.1540.8.zip but want to make sure I am grabbing the correct and latest version. Because I don't want to brick my phone
Post your fastboot getvar all result without serial & imei no.
You may need a different firmware if it's AT&T & S-On and also don't use that outdated 2.7 TWRP.

For some devices, TWRP 2.7 is recommended due to how older boot loaders may not take it well.
I like TWRP. When its workable, its array of tools is superior to CWM. But after I tried 2.8.x, I decided CWM or TWRP at or below 2.7.0.2 is safer and less crash prone.
When I attempted to boot to recovery it would boot loop. Please be mindful of boot signing. If you so slightly make your OEM software notice things a fuse will make your phone implode.

Read again what he is trying to do man ... he's going to update to Marshmallow firmware and that outdated TWRP 2.7 won't work for him (he can't even install his intended ViperOneM8 5.02 ROM with that outdated TWRP)

Good point. For some odd reason CM pairs ROMs and Recoveries. If you check the Dev Auto update option would that be unnecessary.
It's been an itching question I actually had...
Sent from my HTC M8 GPE
? Mass Transit Honchkrow ?
I originally had twrp 2.8 on and tried to install the latest. But it was freezing because I think I need a newer version of hboot. which I have 3.16 on it.
I then downgraded to 2.7 to get it working. I installed ViperOnem8 Rom not reading the website successfully. but have issues with wifi, and 2 minute boot times.
"The 5.0.x ROM is based on HTC’s latest M8 Sense 7 Android 6.0.x base and requires you to update your firmware to at least the 6.0.x (Marshmallow) version! If you don’t you will run into some issues such as Wi-Fi not working or No Boot, etc.
We cannot install the firmware for you during ROM installation so you will need to take the steps to update the firmware on your own."
So I need to update my firmware. I have an ATT S-ON phone. But I have no clue where to get the firmware from, and make sure it is the right one and recent.
I need to update my firmware in order for this rom and a newer version of twrp to work correctly
ok, so
I upgraded to 3.11.1700.5 firmware I found. and that was successful.
Then I upgraded my twrp to twrp-3.0.2-0-m8 and that was successful
Now I am trying to install either Revolution Rom, or ViperOnem8 and both have the same problem. After install they keep booting into twrp and won't load.
I tried Cynamod and that installed and booted fine.
I believe both Revolution and Viper use the Aroma installer. Anyone know what is going on with these and a fix to stop it from booting into twrp?
Need advice

Wrong firmware. You installed an old version of GPE firmware.
You can't install Sense ROM like Revolution and Viper on GPE firmware.
I asked you to post fastboot getvar all to help you but it seems that you made it harder now because you installed a wrong firmware. If it is S-Off, then it is easy to fix.

First - remove all serial & imei no. from your above post.
As I said, it is not easy to fix this with S-On device. What you can try is to install the latest AT&T 6.20.502.5 firmware first then run 6.20.502.5 RUU
Read this for the firmware and how-to : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66886759&postcount=23
You can get the RUU here : http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-one-m8-att/news/

so your saying, install the ruu, update the firmware, then re install viper?
Can't I just update the firmware like I did before? It was S-On before I updated the firmware
The ruu won't install. it says needs more then 30% battery, yet it is fully charged

No .. I don't say that ... read again ...
Flash firmware.zip first then RUU ...
or install ROM first, don't reboot the system, but reboot to bootloader, relock bootloader then flash firmware.zip
As you already flashed a wrong firmware, as I said this may work and may not work but the only way that you can try to fix the wrong firmware installed.

Because you have wrong firmware installed.
but with what firmware.zip? I never got the right firmware.zip to begin with so I don't have any firmware files to update with

That show you don't read all the posts that I posted .. the firmware.zip is posted in the post that earlier posted
You have to wait for someone else I guess who can write a post that you can understand .. maybe my English is not good enough ... good luck

ok .. now that I understand what you are saying. because you had the RUU .exe and also were explaining how to update the firmware at the same time while the firmware was burried a couple of levels of posts, I didn't understand what you were saying.
so it looks like the firmware updated successfully

I unlocked the firmware through the htc website with the Unlock_code.bin
because fastbook oem unlock didn't work.
had to reinstall twrp and that worked after reinstall. although lots of mounting file system errors. with /Data I don't know if that's normal.
seems to be fixed after formatting
Now I will try installing a rom

Now you got it.
And yes, after changing from GPE to Sense GSM (AT&T) firmware, you need to reinstall TWRP (the latest 3.0.2-0) and you MUST format data partition, in TWRP - select WIPE, Format Data - yes ... because GPE & Sense data partition is of different size.
Please where can i get compatible firmware for my htc one m8s with S.O 1.12.1405.6 . I have been on this over 3 weeks now but all no avail.

Hi this is my M8...i want to get back to stock too via twrp
what is my version-main? or suitable backup to download
Thaanks in advance
Your main version is 4.19.61.2 or 4.19.61.3. This is based on your MID/CID and the radio baseband number (I just happen to know form experience that the radio number corresponds to 4.xx main version).
Its probably okay to restore the TWRP backup for the latter (4.19.61.3). Then restore stock recovery 4.19.61.3 and OTA to Marshmallow (assume that is what you want - most folks want to be updated to the more current Android version).
You should also update to TWRP 2.8.7, if it has an older TWRP installed (which is usually how main version gets wiped out - known bug on older TWRP builds).
Alternately, you can relock bootloader, flash signed firmware 6.12.61.4 using the file and instruction in Post #5 of the stock TWRP collection: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60218734&postcount=5
Then unlock bootloader again, flash TWRP back on the phone, and restore TWRP backup 6.12.61.4
