My Note 2 i317 and I are having some issues lately. To put it mildly.
Some background: When AT&T pushed out the last OTA update for the Note 2 in Nov. 2014, my phone started experiencing network connection issues. Occasionally it would take multiple attempts to make a call, someone would call me but the phone wouldn't ring, etc., all while showing a solid signal. What was a mild annoyance got worse. I ran through the usual gamut of fixes (new sim, factory reset, etc.). As I've traveled for the last few months, I noticed that, while I lose connection every so often, I don't have the same issues I do at home. AT&T reports no network issues, though they have upgraded all the towers in my area to HD Voice. I figured that the OTA update messed something up. I rooted the phone, flashed it back to July 2014 stock (using this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal.../rom-att-i317-ucucne5-mj4-stock-odex-t2802189).
The upside is that everything worked smoothly. The downside is that I'm still having the same connection issues.
For example, I'm currently showing -105 dBm (about average in my area), but every time I try to place a call it'll either ring and never connect or default to "emergency calls only."
I'm new to Android modifications, so I'm sure there is something I'm missing and ANY help would be much appreciated.

Baseband I317UCUCNE5
IMEI intact
Thank you.

So i rooted my phone over a week ago, and tried out many different roms. Everything was going fine, until i noticed yesterday that i kept losing voice and data connection. I tried updating to the latest radio which was out today 5.09.00.20, but still have the issue.
The only workaround i've found so far is to set the network mode to GSM only. But obviously it's not very practical for a phone like the desire. When i have it on GSM/WCDMA Auto, it keeps voice and data on for about a minute, then i lose it. And when it's on, i still can't make any calls. But i can make and receive calls fine on GSM only.
Anybody have a clue what's going on here? I tried calling T-Mobile, but they were as useless as always. Apparently there was an issue on the 29th, which is now resolved, and they refreshed something on my profile. So i dunno if rooting/flashing my Desire has caused this or if it's some network outage.
I'm currently running the latest DeFrost rom. I've tried SenseFroyo (Opendesire), LeeDroid & i'm now running the official 2.2 sense rom.
I've also been having problems when connected via 3G for the past few days, but only when I'm at home (so I think it's a specific cell). The signal indicator shows a good signal but attempting to use the internet over 3G just times out, and my voice calls keep getting dropped.
Like you I can work around the problems by switching to GSM only.
I think it might not be a problem with my phone though, because I've tried putting my SIM card in my Nokia N95 and the internet doesn't work over 3G on that either (internet works using GSM on N95). I did manage to make a call on my N95 when my Desire was dropping both incoming and outgoing calls within seconds though.
Weird! I'm going to give it a few days and report it to T-Mobile if it's still happening.
It's fixed for me now. I guess it was a network outage
Hi guys, I need some serious help. I had the original Note and upgraded to the Note 2. My wife got my original Note. The Note 2 is not rooted. I had my new Note 2 for about 4 days, when I notice that my 4G/LTE (I am in Denver) "switches off" and then I don't have a data connection (can't connect to internet etc.), but I still show full towers on the phone and I can make phone calls. When I restart the phone, the connection is restored and I have 4G/LTE. I can also restore my 4G/LTE by switching my phone back and forth between airplane mode.
At times I would be hours without a data connection and then suddenly the connection restores itself (without me restarting the phone). I have compared my connection to my wife's original Note and her phone has constant 4G/LTE, even when I have no connection on my new phone. It is not area specific since I might have no data connection in the morning, but in the afternoon everything is fine (that is now if I don't restart the phone and just leave it be). I took the phone back to Best Buy and exchanged it for a new one and I have the same problem with this phone.
It is driving me crazy since I need my data connection. I've been on the phone with ATT and we've reset the phone and did all that. No luck. They are checking into "other solutions" but I am not hopeful. My questions:
1) What can I do. Anybody else with this problem and how did you fix it.
2) Is this a phone problem or tower / ATT problem (I don't think tower since my wife's Note is working fine)
3) Should I wait for ATT or try and exchange this again for a third time? My 30 days are running out.
Any input will be much appreciated.
Thanks

While it's possible you've received two faulty phones, the more likely culprit is the only thing that hasn't been changed out. The SIM card.

Good idea, I will get the SIM card changed out. Thank you for your input.
The last couple days, I've had no phone reception (Verizon LTE Galaxy Nexus). Data still works (although it may be a bit spottier, but I'm not sure), but no voice calls will go through or be received. The reception status in the taskbar will show either an empty triangle (when there's no data) or a gray triangle with 3G/4G (when data is connected). There may be one or two gray bars occasionally for a couple seconds, but a call won't go through.
I'm using the most recent JDX ROM, though I've tried rolling forward and back versions. I've tried a couple different sets of radios as well, all to no avail. The battery will drain very quickly as, I believe, the phone searches for a signal. Friends on my plan have full reception from Verizon standing next to me.
The only other odd thing that's happened recently is a week ago I got a message that there was no SIM card connected and that I needed to put in my SIM card back in and reboot. I took the card out, put it back in, and haven't gotten the message again since. Not sure if that's related.
Any thoughts? Thank you!

Did that fix your problem cause the samething is happening to me now.
hi. i have an issue with my note 2 i317m. since a week or two ago, some friend and family have told me that they cant call me, but i see that i always have 3 or 4 signal bars, i never see the phone whit no signal, i restored the phone and updated my firmware to the latest on my contry (telcel from mexico) and it keeps happening, i also flashed custom roms like d3 and skynote and diferent modems but just to get the same ressult, i noticed that when i havent used the phone for like 20 minutes this problems happens, and this mostly happens when the screen is off, so when i turn on the screen and make a call i can do it with no problem, and i can receive calls for like 20 minutes before the signal drops again.
yesterday i set the phone to only gsm and the problem was gone, all calls made as test went well, but if i set it on lte/wcmda/gsm or even on wcdma/gsm this issue comes back.
i hope you can help me to fix it because i dont want to get stuck wit gsm only.
the phone is a i317m
baseband i317MUMBLL3 (this is the last one from telcel mexico, but i also tryed rogers one)
no apn changes
thanks, any help will be apreciated
I had a galaxy "Ace style" phone with Straight Talk using the Verizon towers. Fine for a couple of years then it started not calling out when I had 3-4 bars of cell signal and at the same time it would not receive calls (same with SMS messaging). After a call to Straight Talk support I got no where. It cleared up later that night and then it started doing it sporadically but everything else worked (WiFi, etc.). Then thinking it may be the tower, I tried calling using my wife's phone which is a Verizon phone and it worked fine while mine would not work on calls. I bought a Galaxy S3 (Droid 4.1) and thought I was set. Now my S3 has started doing the same thing. I've tried moving to different locations but it didn't seem to matter where I was, no calls in or out.
Has anyone seen this happen before or have a direction to look for a solution? My current phone is SHC-S968C.
