Motorola personnel, honesty and promptness.. - Moto 360

Since 1989, some 26 years, purchasing at least two devices per year, sometimes, up to five devices per year, that's at least 52 devices, exclusively, Motorola's devices, as far back as devices like the "bag phone" and something called the "mobile phone" magnetically hung on a post, in the center, tunnel, floorboard of my 1989 FORD Ranger..soon, will be holding, using as my daily driver "cell phone"..something other than a Motorola device..I have MANY personal reasons for this change, hint, hint, its not the device quality and design, but its company personnel, company procedures, not backing the product with honesty and promptness..and the list is longer, but will stop there..
This change will happen, VERY SOON..lol

So, then, why would anyone buy this?
I can't tether. I can't automatically record all phone calls. I can't file explore.

I like the ads. They're pretty good as an introduction to the platform.
Remember, most people have no clue that WP7 exists and is coming out soon. For us, this stuff is old news but you have to spoon feed consumers. If you jump straight to specific features and hardware, people will miss the point that this is a whole new platform. Once these sorts of basic ads are out and consumers are aware of the new Windows Phone's existence, you build on that and show off features and hardware.
I can already see an ad where the person is flipping through the interface, typing on the screen, and then in the last few seconds, flips out a physical keyboard and types something snarky.
Then some other ones showing off XBL gaming, Zune, etc. So much opportunity here for some pretty awesome ads. The more detailed ads will come in due time. They're just getting their feet wet. Google and Apple have a lot to be afraid of.
You make a good point, and I know this is the early stages as more will come. BUT, I have to be a jack ass and point out this great commercial.

I'd also like to point out how they're branding it. Notice... they're not saying "Windows Phone 7". I have been critical of the naming but I figured a while back that this is how they would brand it and I'm glad to see that they are. Noone cares about the number really. Many people will think it's 1.0. So instead of telling your buddy that you've got a "Windows Phone 7 phone" or something awkward like that the convention will just be to say "I've got a Windows Phone". If they actually know that WM6 existed (many people don't) they may ask "the old one or the new one" and you'd respond "windows phone 7". It's the same as someone saying "I've got an iPhone". They wouldn't say "I've got an iPhone4 phone". Or "I've got an Android 2.2 phone". It's just "Android" or more likely "I have a Droid". Man does Google have their branding all mixed up. I'm surprised this hasn't caused more of a problem than it seems to be. People just call every Android device a "Droid". Just imagine if Verizon didn't launch that ad campaign. Advertising matters, a lot.
Right again, WP7 the name has nothing to do with WM. Windows Phone is brand new, I forgot what the 7 actually means.
Most people I've seen with Androids don't know or just don't care what version they have.

Video chatting has been around for years. I felt like a douche doing it then. People looked like douches doing it then. And nothing has changed.
I'd love to stick with Microsoft products for mobile devices, but I have requirements since finding out what I can truly do with my Touch Pro 2. Imagine recording every single phone call in and out of this phone. Android doesn't even do that. It's been such a treat to have all that data.
So hopefully by the time I'm ready for a new device, WP7 will be ready to meet the standards.

tbh I don't think that Apple made it look more amazing than years ago, when Video calling was new.
I also haven't seen someone acctually using it more than, let's say once a year. It's really uncommon and not a point worth advertising. Even if WP7 doesn't support it (idk if it does), noones gonna miss it and point it out, except maybe Apple fanboys that think that "FaceTime" is totally awesome just because it's Apples idea

A lot of good Droid commercials don't show any real phone features either. Unless changing your arm into a robot arm is a feature of a droid, or having circular lines shoot out of your phone .
They just show cool futuristic themes and graphics.
But the commercials do show a "feature" of the phone. They're trying to build an angle for their marketing. The angle/feature being that they want to advertise that you can consume content faster on wp7 and you're not a slave to your phone...whether it's true is irrelevant, but that's the advertising campaign they're pursuing.
Robot arms were for the new keyboard. Lines shooting out of the phone was showing the wifi hotspot capability.

no it wasn't, there is no kb on the droid x...it was a vessel for that phone to come out of (I'm talking about the droid commercial they show in theatres). The commercial had nothing to do with droid other than it appearing at the end. It's just something futuristic and mysterious.
There are lots of droid commercials that don't sell a feature. They just sell the image of droid being advanced, being "scifi".
^oh, I haven't seen one at a theater. My bad.
The one that didn't make sense to me was the Stealth Fighters one. Airplanes dropping boxes on the ground, with Droids in them didn't make sense to me

I'm just saying, the point of a commercial is to introduce something memorable and to tie that recognition to a product. It's not an infomercial where you always sell features. It's a 30s effort to make something stick in someone's mind.
Take coca cola commercials...they don't always tell you how good it tastes. They have a lavish commercial and give you the impression that coke brightens your bad day.
Look at Geico...they have 25s of random nonsense with a gecko...then just say the line, "saved money on car insurance".
MS is going for a similar approach...they don't try to prove that wp7 "makes your day easier" they just say it does and try to imply that it is less of a hassle.

This is a very sad state of affairs tech industry is in. There are so many great technologies out there that disappear without a trace simply because companies can't present them properly to general public. You have to wait for Apple to take the idea, distort it by putting in a walled garden "ecosystem" and make a simple interface that an average Joe can get without getting scared by options, settings and multiple ways of achieving the results.
I can only pray that Apple TV doesn't take off to kill development of DLNA.

Well I have faith in our community of developers. If MS don't make it so people can tether, eventually one of us will.

Just had an outstanding encounter with an ATT representative.

I went into an ATT store today to see if it was worth picking up a focus S to play sidebar to my lumia 800 today and a representative walked up to me ecstatic. The first words out of her mouth were "I've been waiting for someone to stop drooling over that tired old iPhone for 30 minutes so I could show them this phone, hi, I'm Katie." she then proceeded to pull out her own focus, walk me over to an iPhone, and show me how much smoother the wp7 device was and even used the term "peoplecentric." All the while I feigned ignorance and awe at the phone. She was absolutely ecstatic about wp7 and spent a good 20 minutes just raving about how revolutionary it was. After her spiel I showed off my lumia as well as my son's and told her that the focus series were the only U.S. based phones I have. I asked her if she'd get commission if I did buy it, she hesitantly admitted that she would, and I bought it for that reason alone. She gave me some sense of hope for the dreadful carrier interference in the success of a superior OS.
Dude, did you get her facebook?!
Okay, kidding. Nice to see that someone is doing a great job showing off WP7.
...maybe AT&T got my memo lol...cool story!

It showed that not all carrier salespeople are completely blind. I've actually been one of those who's encountered numerous reps who think we're running winmo and one who said it was laggy compared to his vibrant which I was excited to disprove. It was nice to see a knowledgeable rep.

So, when a salesperson favors Android or iOS over WP, they are "blind", but when one refers to the iPhone (which is another product they are responsible to sell) as a "tired old" device, they are cool? Gotcha. No hypocrisy going on here.

She was obviously a little upset at the lack of an iPhone 5 this year. The slight differences in the 4 and 4s were a downer. She mentioned how she was an apple fangirl until she saw the 4s. Either way, the point was that it's nice to see a knowledgeable rep at att.

Thank you for yet another childish, offensive, utterly ignorant post (which as been reported). Go back to second grade, please.
As for the "one positive story" comment, it wasn't positive. It displayed the exact same kind of ignorant bias on the part of a salesperson that all of the WP zealots condemn every day. But since it was bias AGAINST iPhone, that makes it all OK.
No, the reason for praise was the fact that att miraculously hired a knowledgeable rep.

Yes, I have a bias - against hypocrites. The OP didn't say "it was great to find a salesperson who knew about WP", he went out of his way to point out how she called the iPhone a "tired old" device. And he also implied that not favoring WP makes a salesperson "completely blind". That is what raises my ire. It is ignorant and hypocritical.
I never said or implied any such thing. I merely respected the fact that she was knowledgeable about the device rather than shoving me over to android or ios like every other GSM carrier. Most cdma carriers don't even know they offer windows phones. What you took from it, you took because you wanted to flame bait me. You took one sentence from the entire statement and made it out to be everything. Sadly I didn't recall her sales pitch from memory, otherwise there'd be full chat logs.
I believe with the 4s people were expecting improvements beyond a camera. Their processor still doesn't make it run as smooth as wp7 so I hardly call that an upgrade, and the best software increase is something they bought off of their own market.

Maybe it wasn't your intent to give off a fanboyish vibe, but considering how much fanboyism there is on display in this forum (from both zealots and haters), perhaps you should proofread your posts to ensure they convey the tone you intend, and not something more incendiary.
If it is my job to sell something, would I not be considered incompetent? Yeah, this Audi is terrible, lets enter my comfort zone with a ford. That Audi is running on steam and therefor is inferior. I never said that I don't have a personal preference, however I believe it was clear that I'm not praising her for hers. It was simply pleasant that someone knew something about that which they were selling. When I tell carriers that I want social network integration, they veer me towards android, that is not the best option. When I had a vibrant and I asked about phones with netflix, they veered me towards the vibrant 4g with promises of "it's coming." The HD7 was readily available. The carriers are generally ignorant assuming that winmo and windows phone are the same thing. When cellphones are your financial income, take the time to learn about them.

That "scandal" was proven completely baseless. The GPS data that was stored was never transmitted anywhere, and was the result of a iOS bug (which has been fixed).
Was it also a "scandal" that a bug in NoDo (which I understand has been fixed in Mango) caused WP7 devices to continue to store and transmit users' location data, even when they had specifically opted out of that feature?
Thank god that such a thing isn't allowed in Europe. Therefore it isn't installed on any European device.

On the Evo 3D, where much of this began, the European/GSM version of the phone actually has the ability to log more than the CDMA one. But, it's also important to note that just because it logs, or has the ability to log, something most of that information is never sent anywhere.
The problem is there's absolutely no way to stop it from running without modifying the ROM, so it always sits in the back ground showing down the phone and wasting space. Not to mention the risk of information links.

You're probably right. I should know what to expect from him, but I let it get the better of me.
In any case (trying to get back on topic), it is a good thing that at least two of the major phone OS companies (Microsoft and Apple) have enough respect for their customers' privacy to not allow CIQ on their phones. The only thing that concerns me is that Nokia has apparently been favorable to it on their other phones. I just hope this doesn't end up affecting WP7/WP8 down the road.
I like how you ignored the quote I posted lol..
For the record, carrier IQ was also found on IOS
http://mobile.theverge.com/2011/11/30/2601875/carrier-iq-references-discovered-apple-ios-iphone
I guess I'm glad my HD2 is now running Mango instead of Gingerbread.
What bothers me is that people believe ciq is bad, but when microsoft has a backdoor that allows them to remotely remove applications, its considered acceptable. If that backdoor is possible, who's to say they can't turn on or install ciq anytime they want ?
This is not an ios/android/bb/wp issue, if you leave the door open, it will be used.
Root, rom, irradicate ?
I personally am not of the opinion that CIQ is bad. Let's be honest, we know from the London riots earlier this year that it clearly isn't used by the authorities as it took weeks for Blackberry to give up their BBM logs.
In my opinion, if you've nothing to hide you've nothing to worry about it. I don't have a problem with my phone logging what I do - it might make it easier to find and fix a fault one day - but then, I don't have anything to hide. If I did, I probably would use something a bit more secure than the base apps on my off-the-shelf mobile.

First of all, when MS has some "backdoor" in their OS, that´s ok, if RIM has on theirs BB OS, that´s ok, if Apple has one on their iOS, that´s also ok. But if a third party company has this kind of malware on the device, that´s not OK.
Another thing, why are you so sure that MS has some kind of backdoor on Windows Phone 7 OS?
Why did Robo disappear when it was confirmed this was found on iOS?

IOS, blackberry, and android all have remote removal and remote wipe cabilitites on their phones as well. To my knowledge none of the companies (including Microsoft) have ever used the remote uninstall capability.

It has less to do with having something to hide than having information misused. There have been plenty of people convicted of crimes they did not commit. And that info could be used to prosecute you for someone else's crime. Criminals don't necessarily carry a phone that is tracking their location.

I still hope this is a joke. First off, the chinese version was based off leaks of the actual iPhone 5. Secondly, making fun of a country isn't really racism unless your making their race specifically. Being from the US, if i made fun of canada, would you also call that racism? If i was of chinese origin with US citizenship and made fun of china would that be called racism?
I don't think this guy knows the definition of " Racist ".
Its the fact you guys think they stole it because either their Chinese or not apple.. and half of those leaked pictures are of the go phone.

If they stole it then how did they take their full year of making it before iphone 5 images where even leaked? then selling before apple.. no company can pump out a device from ground up in 2 months -_-
and for the record, im trolling over nothing >_> just discussion over this XD I cant see how the company stole it. Let the court settle it by comparing patent dates
Look up "trademark squatting" and you'll see it's a big thing in China. It has nothing to do with racism.
Also, yes, they can build a phone that quickly because they have the infrastructure to produce a product in a short amount of time.

At this point who cares. I hope the Chinese company has a earlier patent than apple so apple loses money XD iPhone 5 could still be banned for the HTC law suit.. Idk the result of that though

Bingo, that's the word. OP do you know how many knockoffs and lead based painted toys china has? A lot

Obviously.....you do OP. I wish threads like these would go away. Every time I visit this forum, there's another new apple thread. This crap is starting to make me not want to visit XDA lately.
This is not the iPhone forum.
Please discuss other phones in the sticky
Thank you for your cooperation

new 2018 phone, but does it Treble?

i understand the concept started in 2017, but for longevity and support, it really should have started with full Treble support.
maybe a few more rounds of hardware design refinement first (like proper usb-c compatibility and complete standard mobile feature set, maybe camera that can swivel front to back if they only put in one, and some way to use the touchscreen without opening the clamshell like maybe i dunno a slider style instead?)
and software refinement (like not including the MTKlogger spyware the FTC scolded BLU and ADUPS about earlier this month) but they get awesome points for their releasing source codes so quickly unlike the usual suspects, and even more bonus points for the linux dual boot as well.
this is all based on the reviews. (edit: and forum posts by users at oesf)
anyway, i'm looking forward to the next gen version of this to replace my CM KK Relay slider finally.

Maybe you should, ummm, try it before jumping to conclusions like you just did. It's a great device.

 that saying does not apply in this situation.
i've already looked through many pictures, read through multiple reviews across the web, read forum posts (here and oesf which has a running list of known issues) from people who have used the product.
basic science: "does it replicate? yes".
anyone that has done sufficient research on a topic will find that others have already performed the same studies and reached the same conclusions, so no need to repeat the process as it has already been verified.
anyway, back to waiting for the next gen version with the first round awkwardness worked out.
meanwhile, the "gpd win 2" that kept getting mentioned in comparison (though not android mobile device) seems kinda interesting. hopefully a "gemini 2" is a similarly notable improvement compared to the first as i'm much more a fan of Sliderrrsss.

Boy, you sure are a...douche
The GPD Pocket and Win2 are complete crap compared to the Gemini. I couldn't even browse the internet without major slowdowns and stuttering on the Pocket. The CPU is simply too underpowered for anything legitimate.
You're the expert though, keep holding out for the next gen sweetheart.

y u mad bro? insert actually applicable saying about insults being the refuge of etc.
it is generally considered common for most tech to not get things perfect on the first iteration, instead pushing alpha or beta quality something out the door that people can see, to get more money, research, field testing, and do it better the next time.
(this is why mission critical businesses tend towards the "i'll wait for sp1 to come out before upgrading the OS" mindset exists)
so if you were personally involved in the production of the device and decided to take offense, then i'm super sorry if your feelings got hurt. but you seem to be in a grumpy mood so i hope you have a good rest of your day though :fingers-crossed:
anyway, i'm gonna point the Relay users to keep an eye on this company, since they look likely to produce a promising mobile replacement (unlike the "gpd win 2", which is the only gpd device i mentioned, as i already stated is not a comparable mobile product, like apples to oranges, laptops to mobiles lolz).
(edit for typos)

Like I said, you are the authority on technology. "Keep an eye on this company" everyone, jmichael2497 with 4 posts wants you to.

quality over quantity, usefulness over post count
 it is easy enough to read information without adding comment noise like +1 and "me too bro"... like reading a library book without scribbling in the margins (plus it helps avoid "typical internet comments" like yours that discourage intelligent discourse).
"Wise men speak because they have something to say; Fools because they have to say something." - Plato
anyway, enough troll feeding (you must be getting so full it is hard for you to read my post count isn't 4 :silly: ).
Possibly one of the dumbest threads I've seen on XDA in a long time.

Gotta love fools with 8 posts and no experience with a device to come in and give expert commentary.
