Dead Screen - Verizon Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My screen keeps going half dead (see picture). It's been back and forth between working and not for the last couple of days. It has also never been dropped, has never gotten wet, and is 100% stock no root attempts or anything. Anyone else have this happen?

My Note 4 has just started to do this today. I made a post about it on reddit and took some pictures. Hopefully this gets bumped so we can get this figured out.

htc desire waterdamage!!! fixed

Hello everyone
I am sorry if I am posting in a wrong section, but I just wanted to write up my experience in case it helps someone.
Let me first say what a wonderful forum this is. I have used it a lot and it has helped me solve android issues always.
I have a htc desire and a few days ago it fell from my shirt pocket, straight in a bucket which had dirty water in it. I immediately took it out and removed the battery straight away. I let it dry for couple of hours and when I turned it on again, the booting took forever. When it finally booted, it froze at the lock screen and was saying "connect your charger" also the touchscreen was non responsive. For the next two days I was like a madman all over the forums trying to find a solution. I thought that if I used the RUU I would bring it back to stock and everything would be fine. I installed the RUU. I installed fine both from the pc and from a goldcard, but it was the same " stuck at lockscreen and non responsive". I tried everything I could come across the forums, but since my phone was S-ON, there wasn't much to do. I then installed the gingerbread RUU update ..that too installed fine...but again same situation. I was hopeless, I then knew it was a hardware problem, not software. Then I decided, what the heck, its broken, so I might as well try the last thing and disassemble the phone and see what parts I could change. After I took it apart, I saw in couple of places a sort of greenish stuff around the touchscreen connector and around that place since only one indicator was showing water damage, that is, the one close to the connector and close to the bottom of the back of the phone. So I took come cotton and 70% alcohol and cleaned all that greenish stuff away. I left it dry couple of minutes and assembled the phone. when I turned it on ....SURPRISE  it was working perfect.
So if someone finds themselves in a similar situation, consider this like a last option, and you might get lucky like I did.
I hope no one ever needs to read this thread, but if you do , I hope it helps. thanks

[Q] How concerned should I be about my SGS3?

This is a bit of a long story but I need advice and I'm not sure where else to go. I have the phone rooted but the only thing I've done is install KT747.
I'm not sure if it's related but I'll open with that about 6 months ago I dropped it in the bathtub (dumb as hell I know), took it to the sprint store and BSed them about what happened. They opened it up, saw the water indicator/water, called me on my BS, dried it off and cleaned the contacts with rubbing alcohol and my phone came back.
Fast forward to Tuesday, at work with my phone plugged into my laptop it cut off and would simply not come back on. The samsung logo would come up and then the KT747 "Kernel Domination" screen for a moment but then it would cut off. The phone would be on for maybe 3 seconds total. Even if I tried to boot into recovery or even download mode the same thing would occur (I think one time I got it to show the flash count and all that jazz in download mode). As the water indicator will still show water damage and you can clearly tell I've rooted it I was worried I might be screwed out of a phone, but I thought I was screwed the last time I went to sprint so I left to go do that, half way between work and the sprint store my phone cut back on in my pocket. Over the next day and a half it had similar problems but eventually came back (quicker than the first time). And now it's been running well for 3 days.
I've been doing some research on google and I've seen something about a motherboard defect that can cause sudden death, but I think this might be the international S3. It's really hard to tell what's what. Also I saw someone say it could be a battery issue so I ordered a new one but I'm still concerned this might not be the issue.
It's working fine now but I'm in constant fear my phone will just die any moment now.

If it was working fine before you dropped it in the water, then that's probably the cause. I doubt it's sudden death syndrome if there were no signs of shutting on and off before you dropped it in the water.

But would I expect to see problems from water damage so long after the contact with water? I figured if there were going to be problems from the water it would have happened much quicker than this. Like I said the water damage was MONTHS ago.
Sounds like SDS power button failure. Very common on S3.

Hardware Issues? Broken Screen

Well, ive had my first HW issue today. I was using the phone as usual when the screen went funny and looked like it had "split" in two, two identical images one on top of the other. I took the battery out and put it back in and turnede the phone on and the display was flickering badly. It looked like the brightness was totally broken and was increasing and decreasing constantly. After trying to fix it i had to factory reset and i took it back to CarphoneWarehouse and got a replacement. Anyone had any experience of this? I did a Google search and noticed a similar issue with the G2. Im hoping this is just a one off and not and issue with the early devices. If it happens again im asking for my money back.

Screen Flicker

Hey guys, I've got a pesky issue hopefully someone can shed some light on this. A couple weeks ago I noticed the screen on my GS3 (Running Wicked X 8.0) started to flicker little black horizontal lines across the screen. Sometimes you can barely see it other times (especially when the brightness is up all the way) its ridiculously bad. It does it worse in some apps more than others. Like right now i have the brightness at 100% on chrome and its hardly noticeable. But if I go to Facebook its BAD. Once the screen loads all the stuff it goes away somewhat. I had ordered a new OEM front screen and digitizer replacement before this so I wasn't to worried. Figured it was my screens last hoorah before going out. After swapping out screens I powered on my phone and its still doing it. I put my girlfriends sisters motherboard into my old screen and it wasn't doing it. Put it in my new one and still not doing it. I've tried factory resetting it. Turning off HW Overlay anything and everything I've seen I've tried. Even when playing games it doesn't do it. Its very very faint. Idk what the deal is. Please someone help me out. Greatly appreciate it.
Normally I would say ODIN back to Stock. Then see if the issue persists. But in this case since you have already opened the device it may not help as much to troubleshot the device. Still I would ODIN back to Stock to see if it helps.

Randomly turning off after lock.

Hello, recently I've noticed that sometimes my phone Is turned off after pulling it out of my pocket. It never seems to crash during use so I have to hold the power button to turn it on when I pull it out of my pocket.
This happened on the latest official MIUI which prompted me to unlock the phone and install Pixel (to see if it was a ROM issue).
So now I'm on a clean install of the latest pixel ROM and it still happens (maybe once a day).
I've tried uninstalling all apps which I think may have an effect. I don't remember ever dropping my phone or damaging it so what else could it be?
- can I reset the battery?
- is there any way I can track what my phone is doing so I can see what was happening before the phone powered off?
I bought it off AliExpress so I doubt I can fix it under warranty (especially now it's unlocked).
Many thanks
I literally came here to post something along these lines, my phone started randomly shutting down just today, and it happened like 10 times already. Just like you it mostly happens in deep sleep/when it's in standby but I've noticed it shutting down while I was using it too. I'm running Aosip Pie's 270119 build.

Just had it happen twice last night. Literally done nothing to warrant it.
I'm wondering if I need to replace the battery at this point.
Urgh, happened again tonight. I have absolutely no idea what could be causing this

Maybe it's the battery's fault. Why don't you take it to service center and tell them that your device shuts down after some time.
Ordered a replacement battery so we'll see if that fixes it. Seemed to be fine the last couple of days but tonight in town it turned off about 5 times by itself; I wonder if GPS has something to do with it.
[edit] regarding the service centre, I ordered the phone to the UK from Aliexpress so I don't have any warranty. Replacing the battery is probably my last shot at salvaging this issue.
Just to also add, it seems to just be random shutting down now; it turned off during use (not after lock) last night too.
Same here. If anyone knows a fix, please share. Started today.
Mine turns off when as soon as I turned on then when I turned on again it turns on normally. Why?
I have the same issue but I've found a solutions.
Just I open my phone and I place a little peace of paper to block the connector of the battery.
The problem is the connector are not correctly attached.
Hope that help you me it's good a long 1month after 5 months of sheet.
