Question about 4.4.4 OTA and root

Gentleman (and why not, ladies):
Installed yesterday a stock GPE 4.4.3 version on my M8. I'm S-ON, stock recovery and rooted.
Just received the info for the 4.4.4 OTA update. My CID is also already set to GOOGL001.
Is it risky to just let it do it's thing? I know that I'll lose root, but is there a problem besides that? Will the process complete sucessfully?

Anyone?

Why don't you just flash the pre-rooted 4.4.4 GPE ruu?

I believe that S-OFF is needed and Firewater didn't worked with my phone.

You think s-off is needed for OTA? Why would you think that?
As long as your are stock ROM and stock recovery, the OTA install will be fine.

wOUld this be the case if my cid was telst001
stuck on 3.18 firmware cant get s-off and unsure if i can change cid without it

You can't change CID without it. Have you tried Sunshine S-Off? Firewater doesn't work anymore.

Tried sunshine but need to go to a more stock rom i guess, on sinless gpe at the moment its 4.4.4 and working fine?
Not as good a battery life as i had before on viper but new viper will install but no wifi

You need the latest firmware with the new 4.4.4 roms. Read the viper site very carefully and it explains why

GPE FW without S-Off

It was done before by Mike (ARHD); upgrading FW without S-Off by flashing "signed" FW. Will it be possible for GPE FW?

i didnt even know its possible to upgrade FW for S-ON, can you tell me how???

Head over ARHD thread in Dev section. Its there. My first M8 was S-off so i ddnt bother doing it but its there and its possible. I sold my first then got new one, problem is Sunshine will not work, dev said to wait for v3.0 which will be on January hopefully. So, im searching for some options to have GPE fw so that i can flash GPErom with no issues. I made it to work GPErom with SenseFW but after a day, i started to have wifi droping issues.

A signed GPE FW works only on a GPE device.
Same like a signed FW for Sense device works only on that particular device matching its CID/MID regardless S-On or S-Off.

GPE M8 not installing roms when trying to update

Long story short, I bought a GPE M8 with a custom rom, I want to return it back to full stock, it has the bootloader unlocked, every attempt I have made says it has said the installation is aborted, or something about this HTC is europe based etc and the rom is US based etc, I am open to any reasonable suggestions, I just want my phone to be stock, thanks.

Maybe it's a originally Sense based variant ?
How about a pic of the hboot screen ?

Do you have custom recovery?

It's a legit GPE, not a fake, I did get it to work.

I tried it, it kept bugging out, not knocking anyones rom, I just ended up with the Task650 rom, its running fine now.

moving to gpe or asop from sense s-on

looking to move over to either asop or gpe from sense im s-on with latest firmware can i just flash as normal either of these rom types or will i need to adjust to a different firmware ?

You can flash the roms, but to actually covert to GPE, you'll need to be s-off.
You also need the latest firmware for most up to date roms. ?

The M8 will need to be updated to the new 5.0.1 firmware to use latest Sense ROMS,
for AOSP you can use any firmware 3.x and up.
On the GPE Firmware you will need S-OFF as the change in partitions are locked in
S-ON.

Huh... There is a GPE rom on the sprint forum. When I was s-on I flash the rom then flash the kernel in fastboot. I was on latest firmware but not sure if that had something to do

Yeah, there might be a ROM but the full conversion to GPe requires S-OFF

You can use the GPE Rom Easily, without S-OFF it's like any other AOSP ROM.
But if you want to fully convert it to a GPE Edition, you'll need S-OFF.
The problem with the GPE ROMs/Conversion is that
the HTC File Manager cannot load SD Card Tab (You can't modify anything in the SDCard without rooting it after wards).
And the HTC Camera no longer works on GPE , it used to work before without root.
I guess HTC Ruined the Non-Sense variants again.

I used sunshine and it worked like a charm several months back. However now I just run a custom rom, GPE version of skydragon. I believe you don't need to be s-off to run it. Basically the same perks of GPE conversion minus stock OTA updates. If you're stuck you just enjoy running that rom isntead

Sunshine is the only way. It works best when on a stock or near stock ROM. I would suggest flashing the MaximusHD ROM (debloated stock), and trying to gain S-Off with that. A lot of users have had success that way.

for example when i download and install this rom from sd card , how is possible to s off device from this rom i dont understand can you explain thank you.

To be clear, the "full conversion" to GPE is only needed if you want to get the "official" GPE OTA updates, and/or take advantage of the different GPE partition scheme (smaller system OS partition results in more user accessible internal storage).
As you have found out, you can just flash a GPE custom ROM if you don't need the above features, and don't want s-off. Just make sure your firmware is supported by the custom ROM.
