GPE M8 not installing roms when trying to update - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Long story short, I bought a GPE M8 with a custom rom, I want to return it back to full stock, it has the bootloader unlocked, every attempt I have made says it has said the installation is aborted, or something about this HTC is europe based etc and the rom is US based etc, I am open to any reasonable suggestions, I just want my phone to be stock, thanks.

OK, so is it from GPE or a GPE Rom ?
Maybe it's a originally Sense based variant ?
How about a pic of the hboot screen ?

Do you have custom recovery?

@badboy47 why don't you try graffixnyc's gpe ruu ?

Basically, you have Developer Edition firmware. ARHD is based on Sense firmware. If you want to go to Sense 3.28.401.9, you will have to flash a WWE RUU.

And to do that I will need S-OFF won't I?
Uhh damn it. It's not that I can't afford it it's just I don't have a paypal. My dad has one but pretty sure he won't let me use it.

He will probably let you use it if you pay him up front the $25.
Read more about the benefits of s off, and if you really need it here:

You don't NEED 3.28.401. You just need a 3.x based firmware, and if you are on 3.28.1540, that is fine as well.
In fact, if you are in the US and/or AT&T is your carrier, the 3.28.1540 plays better with the AT&T network.

S-OFF on Cid 332?

Has anyone being successful getting S-OFF on this M8.
Have already tried sunshine with no luck.
I'm running 4.4.4 stock rooted.
Any help will be appreciated, since the flashaholic in me wants to try GPE roms [emoji41]
there goes the s-off thingy again. if you are on your stock rom and sunshine fails it gives you a clear message if the device is not supported yet. nothing will change that only a new update of sunshine that is in development and released in the future.
you do not need s-off to flash gpe roms. the latest sense hboot (3.19) supports these roms like skydragon gpe !

You mean, that this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708589
is not needed for general gpe rom usage?
for a conversion ruu yes. not for flashing a custom gpe rom. you never mentioned the full conversion.

So basically Skydragon rom, you mentioned is a gpe rom adopting Sense-roms' partition scheme? If yes, then I ket my attention slip a little when reading the rom description.
Thank you for pointing it out!

[Q] Need to go back to Sense ROM before unrooting and going back to full stock?

Hey guys,
I'm currently running a HTC One M8 with Skydragon GPE rom w Kitkat.
I was just wondering if I need to flash a Sense ROM first before proceeding to converting my phone back to full stock?
I'm also S-on.
Thanks for your help!

Run the splash they provide to return to Sense, then run the appropriate RUU for your MID to make sure you are re-partitioned correctly.

Hey, I appreciate the reply. But I read somewhere that this is only applicable if I converted my device to GPE. Im only running a GPE ROM.
My device was originally running Sense 6.

Any lollipop roms that work without s-off?

Thankfully I finally was able to RUU back to stock... I know the At&t update is supposed to come at some point, but I am wondering if there is a lollipop rom that works with S-On or can I flash the GPE while still S-On?
Thanks in advance
You can flash any ROM, they just won't work properly without the Lollipop FW.
Why not S-OFF and convert the phone to the Developer Edition?

I been using GPE Lollipop on kitkat firmware for a while before HTC released Lollipop firmware. It worked all fine, just some problems with the wifi dropping out, if you come across that problem just turn your bluetooth on.

Actually most GPE and AOSP ROMs will work with 4.4.4 firmware, far as I am aware. OP should check the specific ROM thread (for the desired ROM or ROMs) to make sure, as its usually defined pretty clearly in the top few posts of each ROM thread.
But you are right, if the OP wants a Sense LP ROM, they will need to update to the corresponding firmware.

Going back to Stock - S-ON

Hello Guys,
Today I decided to install CyanogenMod 13 on my HTC One M8. Here is what I did:
- Unlocked the bootloader;
- Flashed TWRP Recovery;
- In recovery, I wiped everything I could;
- Installed CM13 and Gapps.
Now, the phone works good, but in case I want to go back to stock, what should I do? I still have S-ON.
Thanks for the help!
(also, info about where to download the stock ROM is welcome)
You should have made a nandroid backup right after flashing TWRP.
Oh and there are 2 threads with backups. 1 here in the Q&A and 1 in the general. Can't be missed !

So, I didn't do the backup. But my question is: is it possible to install stock ROM now?
Everyone says I have to use S-OFF to be able to install Stock again. Why is that?

Because they are incorrect.
You can go back to stock by flashing a stock TWRP backup and stock recovery, but you can't set the flag to "locked" from "unlocked" without S-Off. You can only set it to "relocked".
But you can go back to the stock ROM and recovery easily.

I don't need to make exactly like before. All I need to know is if there is a way back to stock, and custom ROMs after that.
I'm not sure if this is correct, but some people said I can't install custom ROMs with S-ON and I can't make it S-OFF without stock ROM because SunShine requires it. That's it. Thanks for help!

You don't need S-Off to install custom ROMs. You do need it to convert to GPE, if that's what you mean. The M8 and M8 GPe are different models with different partition locations and sizes.
You do need to be on a stock or close to stock ROM to gain S-Off.
ViperOneM8 works, and has been suggested by the developers of Sunshine S-Off.
MaximusHD is also known to work, and is what I usually suggest even though I work with Team Venom.
It's always worked because it is very near stock.
I imagine that it works with ViperOneM8 on a fresh install, before flashing the modifications that are available, or going through the Tweaks.

Great info, thanks a lot.
Any idea if Android Revolution HD by Mike will do?
Anyway, if the Official CM recovery will be able to install CM13+ updates when they release them, I am totally fine with how the phone is right now.
