[Q] Sluggish post-lollipop? - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone noticed their G3 become particularly sluggish after the lollipop update? I've only just got mine so can't really compare before and after, but friends with the same device don't remember it being slow before the update.
With lollipop installed I'm seeing lots of lag bringing up the keyboard and switching between apps.
Curious to see whether this is something people think will be sorted in future updates, or whether the device has always been a bit sluggish.
Cheers!

If you updated to L OTA then you should do a backup using either the phones built in backup tool or LG PC suite, and use the LG flash tool 2014 and the right KDZ for your phone and do a full reflash to clear everything out. OTA updates to whole new versions are known to cause lag and problems, it'd always recommended to do a full flash again when going to a whole new software Level. I might also add, people have said that the LG keyboard and stock launcher causes a lot of lag, you could try using a third party keyboard like SwiftKey or TouchPal and a third party launcher like Nova Launcher and see if that helps.

[Q] Choppy user interface

I have a weird problem with my N2. Overall it works great, battery is incredible, 3D games run smoothly, but the user interface is very choppy at times. Switching between home screens is great, no matter how fast I do it it's always buttery smooth, but opening an icons folder is choppy - I can definitely see the difference when tapping a folder with one row of icons and one with more rows. Also, if I'm downloading something, than it gets really choppy. Opening and closing apps is often choppy, yet in between that the apps work great.
If I'm watching a video and then tap the button to make the video smaller, first it disappears completely and then it flies out from the bottom right to the top. I did 2-3 factory resets, and everything is fluid as it should be after that, but the moment I start installing my apps, it becomes choppy. I don't use suspicious apps, and most are from recognized developers. The phone's rooted using the All in one toolkit, and Triangle Away was applied. Stock ROM is still on it. Memory usage is around 800Mb-1.2Gb. Battery saving is off. Sometimes I get FC's on TouchWiz.
It's just kinda weird, at times I feel like I'm running a low end device. It's responsive, but not fluid. I had Avast mobile on it and uninstalling that made it a lot better, but it's still not as fluid as the first day. Any ideas? TouchWiz problem or a bad app?
Give nova launcher a try. It's the best launcher I have ever used.

I tried Go launcher and it was laggy as hell. I have no idea what's causing this, but it's not good.

Hello, I'm sorry you're having issues. But might I ask that you flash one more time a completely stock ROM with NONE of your apps. Without rooting, install your apps and see if it's an OEM app from the Play Store. If that's not the case, then it's something you're doing on the side (an app you've installed while rooted or something that is acting up that has powerful user privileges).
See if that helps.

Hmm, can you be a bit specific about that? I understand what you're saying, except the "without rooting" part. The phone is already rooted, and with stock ROM - I rooted it, applied Triangle away and Root Exploit fix and reflashed stock recovery. No custom ROM has been flashed.
Now you say to flash stock ROM without rooting. That would mean I would have to unroot it now. Or what?
Something strange is definitely afoot - very demanding 3D games run buttery smooth, yet lightweight apps are laggy as hell - for instance, scrolling through list of POIs in Navfree app is painfully slow.

Yeah, if you reset your device to factory you'll lose ROOT. Try to use it without rooting your device. Completely stock. Put some samsung apps in a folder and see if it's still choppy... You'll have two possibilites.
If it is still choppy, then you have a problem with the ROM. Maybe you should try another one.
If it is smooth, then proceed to installing your apps (still without rooting your device) and then check to see if it's still smooth. If it isn't smooth after installing your apps then you have an app that's conflicting with your OS. If it is smooth then proceed to rooting. If you root and there is a problem, then something with the rooting process went wrong and it changed something or an app that you have is doing something strange with your OS. You could also try it the other way around. Flash again, root first thing, try the folders and see if that works. See what's causing the problem.
I know it's a long boring process, but ... it must be done! Another option is try a new ROM in general. Hope I've made myself clear this time take care & good luck!
Merry Xmas!
I unrooted it and am now completely stock (with the device status still being modified). Just stock apps are on the phone and it seems to be working ok. WIll see wha happens after installing some apps.
EDIT: I am now downloading updates for stock apps, and am definitely seeing some jerkiness when opening and closing apps, mainly Google apps.
Perhaps it really is the firmware that's causing the issue. My device came with N7100XXALIE N7100BUALI7 VFGALIA stock firmware, which is still on it, yet the only available stock firmware for my country and carrier is N7100XXALIJ N7100VFGALIC, and everyone seems to be using that one.

[Q] Turn the v500 into a v510 (Google Play Edition)

Hi!
I'm planning on buying the LG G Pad 8.3, but I live in Brazil and the Google Play Edition isn't available here. However, I really love the simple UI and clean software-design from Google (I have a Moto G, as well) and I've alson seen some people saying that, sometimes, there are a few performance issues with the G Pad that isn't the Google Play Edition due to, mainly, LG's bloats. I'd like to know whether it's possible to flash the stock ROM (download it from somewhere) and, basically, turn the v500 into the v510 (GPe). So, is it possible? If it is, is it also necessary to change the kernel? And, if so, has anyone done it before / could it brick the tablet? I'd like to buy one soon, because of the price and good specs, but I'm not keen on the software-design by LG and I'd like to have a "original" system running on it, not some modified/customized cyanogen stuff (although, if that's my only option to a better performance, I'd probably choose it).
Thanks a lot!
Hello,
You can simply install CM11 + gapps, you've got something close to GPE.
Hahaha...you need to root the G Pad to install stock Android ROM. Maybe You can find the stock ROM here on xda developer...but root the device first.

Right...
The only problem I've encountered is not finding the Stock ROM from the Google Play edition... And I've seen the CM11 based version, I just don't like the setting menu from CM11, but maybe I'll do that. The main thing I want is the virtual button to show the recent apps that is simply non existant on the non-GPe edition!

On stock ROM : long press home button !
I know that, I've seen some videos about it already... But I don't like it and it's a functionality that Google has considered obsolete since Android 3.0 and, for some stupid reason, LG and their GREAT software-designers still implement it. They really should follow Motorola on this regard, as they are releasing new phones with no bloat at all, using basically what would be a Nexus version of their phones.
P.S.: FOUND A TOPIC ABOUT THIS IN GENERAL FORUM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=51834016
Basically, it doesn't work due to small hardware differences (WiFi and Bluetooth seem to fail after flashing the v510 stock ROM). However, I believe an AOSP ROM is still an option for better performance.

I cannot begin to imagine why that is desirable, where everyone would have the same phone experience. Very boring.
In any case I agree that LG has done some GREAT stuff with the software. If you buy a G Pad, you will see for yourself.
How do we install CM11 + gapps? There is no playstore app?

Keyboard lag 4.4.4

Does anyone is having an extreme lag with the ZL ?? I'm suffering from it and I don't know if it's the 4.4.4 update or what.( I dont remember when it started). I tried with stock rom and right now with MoonWalker Rom, but I have the same issue on both. What do I have to do? Do I have to go back to 4.3 or there is a fix?
Thank you so much!
Welll... thank you all for your feedback
can you sucscribe lag thatyou have? i have a lag that my keyboard not always show in time when i touch an input area, i have to wait couple seconds. and i thin this is arom related.
Hello, I have the same issue after kitkat update. I did everything to fix this problem and nothing.
I notice that after full recovery (format) Is fine but when the stock apps update via google play (like google play services) the issue appear.
I just have one thing to say, this is my first and last time with Sony. Buggy Firmware, lot of hardware bugs, the screen is not resistant, the vibration system is like a china phone and so on.
My issues:
Texting lag (keyboard lag)
screen transitions lag
Opening and closening the status bar lag
Scroll lag
everything had lag after kitkat update
I did every kind of recovery.
It's very laggy just when i delete something
possible correction

It lags when I tap on an input text, it lags when I type... like: I type a sentence and nothing happens....after 4 seconds, characters appears in a fast sequence...and this happens 90% of the time.
What I have tried:
Reboot
Clean caches
Re-install ROM
Install 3 different stock roms (my cell is BL)
The final and WORKING thing that I did is........: Go back to fu**in 4.3, it runs smoothly like 4.4.4 should be.
I recommend not to buy a sony device, their development team sucks and they release devices every 5months which becomes the current generations obsolete in a couple of months.

Thanks for the advice!
Actually this is my girlfriend's phone, my is a clean and perfect nexus 5.
But there is some news... Maybe some services get updated in the last 2 weeks, and now the phone is good enought to use, not perfect but is good, 90% of the laggy disappear, but I dont know for how long....
Sony nevermore...just clean androids like nexus....
I had to back to 4.3. The best rom ever. The 4.4.4 lags a lot on keyboard and multitasking.
If you have 2 or 3 app it's OK, otherwise not.
The 4.4.4 Taskbar is ugly, lags and worst than 4.3.
The question is. What the "Fuccc..." 4.4.4 have better than 4.3?
So, don't upgrade to kitkat. Only the real chocolate bar ir better than jellybean...

Third party themes for stock unrooted LG G4?

are there such things? I've been doing some searching for a few hours now with no results it seems. I was wondering if anyone here knows of any sites that makes custom LG G4 themes that i can download and install through the LG home themes setting that actually changes the UI's theme? I don't like LG's stock home screen i prefer smarter home screens like Aviate (before yahoo went and screwed it up) or Bento(Scout for those who don't recognize the original name Bento lol) I'd like to know if it's even POSSIBLE to create custom themes for the LG G4 with out requiring Root or a custom rom because the LAST time i tried to root my device it got perma bricked and i had to have it replaced through Sprint claiming it was a software issue and didn't get charged a dime in turn.
Unless the LG G4 has some awesome roms like MIUI or other similar roms with a ton of customization to make it my own, along with said roms giving massive improvements to battery life and performance i'd rather not take the chance of screwing up my replacement device as there doesn't seem to be any quick root method that doesn't require a computer to do it with ODIN and the like. (i miss the old days of simply putting the update zip on your SD card and simply flashing it through stock recovery)
SOOO any thoughts? any suggestions? ANYTHING? ;w;

Firmware Update Questions

A few days ago I purchased a new SM-P600 and have been getting to know my device. It has downloaded a firmware
update which I have not installed yet. l can't seem to find any comprehensive info on what exactly the new update offers, like what sorts of changes or improvements should I expect? Will the interface look different? Has anyone taken any pictures or are there any tutorials ? l haven't made any changes to the device yet other than downloading some apps. l haven't ever updated or rooted a tablet before, so I want to make sure I don't screw it up. Any info or suggestions would be appreciated.
Are you on kitkat? Of so, it is most likely the lollipop update. You can see reviews and screen shots in this forum. Mixed opinions, but personally, I think it's a very good update.
Updating over the air like you have done is safe. It will not damage any data or files unless you deliberately do a factory reset or the tablet switches off in the middle of the update.

Apparently I have Jelly Bean and it's an update to Lollipop 5.1.1 I'm not concerned about data or anything since I haven't created/stored anything on it yet. Just installed a few basic apps and set up my email.
One of the things I'm encountering reading the threads is that a lot of people have rooted or made changes to their device and I'm wondering how that affects functionality. I'd like to see/read a review from someone that can show how the stock update functions in comparison to what I currently have on it. I just think I should make some decision before I start to get used to this version and to store stuff on it.
Overall I'm happy with it as it functions now. I'm only noticing two issues. It seems to give me battery life of about 5 hours. I have turned off a lot, and turned brightness down, but perhaps there are more things I should be doing to optimize the battery. The other problem is handwriting doesn't want to function with Dolphin browser. Seems to be working in fine in every other app.
Rooting has nothing to do with the update. 5.1.1 is a very major OS update from Jellybean. It has a different UI, and better, more fluid experience (at least for me). If you are an Spen user then there are major improvements, themselves worth the upgrade.
You can root or not, as you wish, whether you update or not. If you want to see what the update looks like, you will find comments, screenshots and videos if you google p601 lollipop
