I recently picked up a Verizon LG3 and love it so far. I do have one issue where my corporate global address list doesn't show up in contacts. My personal contacts from my Exchange account show up, and no problems with calendar or email. Any suggestions on what I need to do to get the GAL contacts?
When you say GAL contacts do you mean the actual global address list or the contacts you have saved into your corporate exchange account?

The corporate global address list is missing. Personal contacts that I have saved in Outlook come through fine, but the company address list does not.
Okay you should be able to open the people/contacts app and then press the search button and be able to search for anyone within your corporate organizations.
They aren't there. My personal contacts are there, but not the corporate list.
You will need to search them using the search function as the GAL will not save locally to your device... Just press search and type someone's name and that person should pop up. It may take a moment as it has to pull from the exchange server

Is there not a way to pull all of the contacts into the contacts file of the phone? I've setup other users with other Android phones and the entire GAL is available on the phone.
I work in the IT department of a corporate company and I have not seen anyone set up like this. I am going to test myself with my own corporate email account to see what can be done

I also work in the IT department of our company, but I don't handle any Exchange related duties. I believe they are using Epicenter to create a cached copy of the GAL for mobile users. It may just be a case where my user account isn't included in the list of users to receive this GAL list.
Yep I reckon you would need to request access to this from your manager... Anything for these corporate companies to save money

Hello all
I'm wondering if there is any way to be able to view the contents of yahoo email folders in outlook. as far as i can tell the only thing i can see is my general inbox.
So far the only solution i have found is to use yahoo Go! but this does not display the conents of my email on my home screen. in addition i have to load the program ever time i want to check my work folder, as well as manually connect. its very cumbersome and the software is bloated with graphics and crap i just dont want to see or use.
In reality, the only thing i want to see is the contents of my folder labeled "work" the rest of my email i will gladly deal with when i am at a computer. idealy, i would like outlook, or a whatever program it is to display the contents of just my "work" folder on my homescreen. if anyone can point me in the right direction here it would be greatly appreciated.
oh also ive heard that google is much better for mobile email. my yahoo account is 15 years old, so i cant give it up, but im considering trying to rig things up so that all of my work email forwards to a gmail account so that i cant then get it displayed on my homescreen.
thanks again guys
ok, this may or may not help. are you using pop3 to connect to yahoo? if so, i think that's your problem. try connection with imap. you should be able to find the connection info on the yahoo site. you may have to do some funny business to make it not automaticly pick up the pop3 settings. i had to for my gmail account. they may actually have a winmobile 6+ tutorial (gmail did). but i know that imap supports folders.
Hey ,
Yahoo gives u pop and imap only if u have a paid account ,, not to free accounts
wow, how restricting. i'm glad i dropped them 5yrs ago for gmail.
thanks for the help. yahoo are real bastards. still trying to ride along on a restrictive model that was good enough back in 1995, but is a joke with the likes of competitors like gmail in this day and age. i too wish i could just dump the damn yahoo account, but ive had this email address for about 15 years, and i also use the thing for work, so it really wont cut it. can anyone tell me if some sort of forwarding to gmail of just my work contacts' email could resolve my problem? if so, is there any special trick i need to be doing?

Sorry, but forwarding is like POP/IMAP in Yahoo. Only available on the paid "Yahoo Mail Plus" accounts. I've switched 95% over to gmail, but check the Yahoo free account once a week.

I think there is a difference between .com & .co.uk or it's that my account is donkey years old as have forwarding on free accounts
Well, gmail or Yahoo, or whatever other, there is no way to keep the email folders and related messages in the Android phone memory and use them offline like in the PC Outlook! That's really missing as one can't consult messages if out of wireless connection range!!!
That's the application Android is missing!
For those who have WP7 and have it paired with a LIVE account, could you please confirm something for me please?
I have a LIVE account, ***account***@live.com
WP7 contacts have "Anniversary" field
When I login to hotmail using any web browser and go about creating a contact, I can't see the "Anniversary" field. So how/where will WP7 sync that information to?
Attached is the screenshot of what fields I see when I create a new contact in LIVE.
Am I missing something here?
No, you are not missing something. There are a lack of reciprocal fields on Live to that on the device. These fields do exist on Outlook though.
yea, use outlook live connector to get the full functionality of these fields, or pair them up with the appropriate facebook contacts and it will get populated from there.
I tried the outlook connector but it doesn't sync the Anniversary field from outlook to the live contacts, everything else does get synced.
did you remember to resync and make sure you're modifying the contact card that is on the live account?
You might also want to look at alternative methods for syncing Outlook back to your phone. Personally, I'm very anti Live for so many reasons. I've gone for a hosted exchange method for the time being so it's all Outlook back to the phone.
Remember though, that whatever method you choose, the phone doesn't have the same complement of fields as Outlook but it has more than Live

Most of my contacts are full of information and I have gone through with all my contacts to get the list of fields that I use, i.e. within Outlook.
Anniversary is the only field that I want is not there in live contacts, rest are all there. Doesn't matter where I sync it from, if I don't have a hosted exchange account mentioned below, I will not be able to get that field through live contacts.

I have 3 domains that are hosted and between them I have around 10-15 accounts and at the moment the email service is done free due to hosting service agreement. Exchange accounts are not cheap and I am not sure I can afford to move all of them to exchange. And many Exchange providers I have looked also changes extra for ActiveSync kinda functionality.
Anyone know of a way to sync a government email account directly to the EVO...I set up a separate gmail where it gets forwarded to but figured this has to be possible somehow... the managers and higher ups have theirs synced with a blackberry....
Do you have OWA access?
What that means is let's say you're at my house and you want to check your email from your job, can you go to my computer and go to a special website to access your work email?
Do you have to connect through VPN (Virtual Private Network)?
If the answer is YES to the first question then you can set it up for your phone through Exchange. Now you wouldn't be able to set it up if your employer has a Blackberry Server because that would mean you can only do it via a BB or WM device with Blackberry Connect software. If your employer uses an Exchange server you can have them help you set it up. You have to verify that it's ok for you to have your email going through your phone because many employers have strict policies regarding access levels of employees.
There is a website I can go to when I'm on a network computer to access the email... I've tried Exchange and got nothing
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Ok when you say "networked computer" are you talking about your work intranet or any computer that has web access.
If the answer is the second one you want to basically find out the server address. You can view your server address by going into Microsoft Outlook (if you use that at work) and going into Tools-Account Settings-Clicking on the account and hitting Change. If you can't find it in there you can have a fellow BB user log into their BIS Blackberry login and use the server address that they have configured online if they have their email setup as IMAP or POP. If they are on AT&T they can go to: bis.na.blackberry.com but every carrier has their own website.
You just just mirror the incoming server address (as long as you guys are on the same server) and set it up through your phone.
Put in your Email & Password. The domain is usually your work email address (without the slashes and symbols) and the server would be that server address you need to find. You also want to check if your server requires SSL or not.

As a fellow government employee, if you want to keep you job, stop posting this now. Blackberries are secure and have a special server connection, you cannot sync via mobile with any other phone in most gov departments. If you do one of these workarounds and get caught in a post-wikileaks environment good luck to ya...
Call up the IT admins and just ask them what the ActiveSync settings are. Ta-da!

I honestly doubt an employee getting emails to his phone that there's a Christmas party on Tuesday with a Secret Santa event is very Wikileaks-worthy. Quit being so over-reactive like Lieberman. If he was actually doing anything secure, he'd know better, and would have a Blackberry.

Activesync is usually disabled. Somebody got fired for improper thumbdrive usage last week. The rule has been on the book for a while, ignored until now. We were all given an extra warning after that at my location. Believe me I have nothing personal in this.
Hi,
I just switched from Desire to Galaxy Nexus and I'm desesperatly looking for the way to get access to the corporate directory (I have configured the Exchange account and sync okay emails, contacts and calendar).
Anyone found the way to get this?
Thank you.
Global address list? When I start typing a name in a new email it pops up matches from the list
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
I'd love to know where to find the settings for my work email address. They make us use outlook web access.
I use Corporate Addressbook. Haven't tested if it works on the Galaxy Nexus though.
I use touchdown exchange. So much better than any built in exchange. Worth the money plus my company's security requirements are only applied to the app. I don't need a password just to get into the phone. Global address book works great.

I use Enhanced Email. It automatically detects my Exchange server settings when i add my email account. That's where i got the correct settings for Corporate Addressbook.
I was after the access to the full set of info from the directory (i.e. phone numbers etc... on top of email address). I understand that this could be simply not part of "naked" android?
It then must have been from the htc contacts app on the desire, then? Not always easy to tell...
Now, what would be great would be something that integrates in the ics people app. Any hope?
I did use touchdown for a while but felt better with HTC email client...
Thanks for all the quick answers.
Hi,
I just found out that People app is now looking from corp directory. Anyone else is seeing that?
This is very good.
Hi everyone,
I tried adding other Gmail emails to my email app without adding accounts to the phone but no way even tried Microsoft outlook if you use other email addresses it is ok but if you try Gmail email apps you been diverted to google again to add an account to the phone. This awful google you already have info why trying to get synching everything on the second phone.
Another solution just listens the mr google and add an account for every email that you use and stop synching but I didn't like this because I read somewhere it keeps synching everything.
3rd party email like yahoo is ok but not really safe to me.
Here we go microsoft outlook if add from inside app at reader mode yes allow adding gmail.com emails.
so found my own solution.
inn outlook app hit top left and all the way down to wrench icon you ll see + add account (it is not adding google account just adding emails.
Great
Try the Nine email client - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ninefolders.hd3&hl=en
I use it for all my email addresses - Office 365, IMAP, and even an old POP address.
It costs $10 but good programs should cost money.

Try Aquamail. The first thing I always do is remove or disable Gmail and install another email app.
