Yahoo folders in outlook mobile - HTC Excalibur

Hello all
I'm wondering if there is any way to be able to view the contents of yahoo email folders in outlook. as far as i can tell the only thing i can see is my general inbox.
So far the only solution i have found is to use yahoo Go! but this does not display the conents of my email on my home screen. in addition i have to load the program ever time i want to check my work folder, as well as manually connect. its very cumbersome and the software is bloated with graphics and crap i just dont want to see or use.
In reality, the only thing i want to see is the contents of my folder labeled "work" the rest of my email i will gladly deal with when i am at a computer. idealy, i would like outlook, or a whatever program it is to display the contents of just my "work" folder on my homescreen. if anyone can point me in the right direction here it would be greatly appreciated.
oh also ive heard that google is much better for mobile email. my yahoo account is 15 years old, so i cant give it up, but im considering trying to rig things up so that all of my work email forwards to a gmail account so that i cant then get it displayed on my homescreen.
thanks again guys

ok, this may or may not help. are you using pop3 to connect to yahoo? if so, i think that's your problem. try connection with imap. you should be able to find the connection info on the yahoo site. you may have to do some funny business to make it not automaticly pick up the pop3 settings. i had to for my gmail account. they may actually have a winmobile 6+ tutorial (gmail did). but i know that imap supports folders.

Hey ,
Yahoo gives u pop and imap only if u have a paid account ,, not to free accounts

wow, how restricting. i'm glad i dropped them 5yrs ago for gmail.

thanks for the help. yahoo are real bastards. still trying to ride along on a restrictive model that was good enough back in 1995, but is a joke with the likes of competitors like gmail in this day and age. i too wish i could just dump the damn yahoo account, but ive had this email address for about 15 years, and i also use the thing for work, so it really wont cut it. can anyone tell me if some sort of forwarding to gmail of just my work contacts' email could resolve my problem? if so, is there any special trick i need to be doing?

Sorry, but forwarding is like POP/IMAP in Yahoo. Only available on the paid "Yahoo Mail Plus" accounts. I've switched 95% over to gmail, but check the Yahoo free account once a week.

I think there is a difference between .com & .co.uk or it's that my account is donkey years old as have forwarding on free accounts

Well, gmail or Yahoo, or whatever other, there is no way to keep the email folders and related messages in the Android phone memory and use them offline like in the PC Outlook! That's really missing as one can't consult messages if out of wireless connection range!!!
That's the application Android is missing!

Checking Yahoo email

Guys,
Cant seem to get Yahoo emails into my MDA Compact III handset.
I have gone thru the instructions, and filled in the email addy on page 1.
I am not sure what to put in for the User Name on page 2. I have tried using the email addy, and the email addy without the @yahoo.com bit. Neither work.
Obviously the password is in and saved.
On page 3 it is showing the settings as greyed out POP3 and Yahoo.
Page 4 shows Incoming mail: pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk (this was already filled out, I have tried this as a .com as well)
Outgoing mail: smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk (this was already filled out, I have tried this as a .com as well)
Domain: this was not filled in.....
I have asked for it to connect to both 'The Internet' and 'T-mobile Internet' neither have worked.
When ever I try to 'Send and Recieve' it always just comes up with a screen saying 'Incoming E-mail Password' showing my User Name, Password and Domain. But wont do anything more.
Can anyone confirm what format a user name should be. And also if the Domain is a req firld, and what it could be.
Thanks
Matt
The user name can be anything you want displayed on your sent e-mail, I use Mike Alder in this box and it works fine, the Domain box I leave blank.
From what you describe you have let the device set itself up automatically, I configured mine manually, you can still do this, but first I would check in your e-mail application on the PC what the pop3 address is "pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk" might be the automatically loaded value - but is it correct? - I don't use Yahoo so sorry I can't be more specific - Mike
Can i add my hot mail as well?
thanks
ASZ
I think yahoo charge for their pop email service. hotmail is free to use, and even comes with all facilities for mobile devices to receive and download email.
To connect to yahoo for free via your desktop you can use a freeware application called yahooPops which runs as a pop3 server on the desktop (to which your client eg outlook talks to ), and on the back end it connects via html, translates and downloads the emails for you. Not sure it exists for pocketpc.
Other ways from the browser on the pocketpc you can use mobile.yahoo.com, or used to be a wap.yahoo.com or wap.ou.yahoo.com , which is a text only mail service.
hi all,
i have had my MDA CIII for 4months now. And i used the auto steps walkthrough to setup the yahoo. and surprisely it actully worked....that was until the other day. I dnt knw whats happened, but its like they have blocked me out or something . I am bit curious to why all of a sudden it has stopped. i know the fact you are suppose to pay for pop3 access, but then how comes its been working fine for like 4mnths.
can anyone think why it might not be working anymore?
thnx,
Snoop
Hi,
Just to update things...
I eventually managed to get yahoo email pushed to my phone by subscribing to the £12.00 a year premium yahoo account. It's worked a treat since I joined it.
Not sure why it stopped working for you, or more accurately, how it worked in the first place! But the solution is to join the premium service...for me, it's worth every penny

hey matt,
ye i know i was proper shocked the 1st few months when it was working. altho it wasnt the best. bcoz my mda kept reading both normal emails and bulk mail at same time. and i get 100's of bulk mail throughtout the day. i not to bothered enough to receive yahoo mail by paying £12. I have web'n'walk from t-mobile, i recon im better off just checking it using the wap version of yahoo mail website. which is what i would recommend if yahoo isnt your primary account.
Snoop
Good point - I have the w'n'walk, but love the push email thing and since this is my main email, it's great to keep bang up to date! Its amazing how little I use email from my home computer now.
I am lucky that I get hardly any spam into my inbox (touch wood) - and the premium yahoo (aledgedly) has better spam protection...

Best Way To Handle Email

Hi Everyone,
There has been a lot of discussion about the best way to use email on a smartphone like the Tytn. Does everyone use the IMAP protocal for best results?
Personally, I get A LOT of mail for work and I would love to find a way to get the mail I want but not have to deal with junk mail and other emails that are automated on our side workwise.
Any suggestions?

if the email server supports IMAP then use it....
Or to get full functionality, rent an exchange server mailbox from someone like 4smartphone (for about US$50 per annum) and get push email etc.
IMAP generates a lot more traffic than POP3. Just fetching a single
mailheader (send/receive when there is 1 new mail) yields over 10 kB more
traffic in IMAP. As my one subscription is limited to 10 MB/month, thus
using POP3 makes much more sense (speed could also be an argument,
altought even in GPRS it doesn't differ that much). Conseqently, I have
different entries for the same mailbox (currently: 3 IMAP, 1 POP3).... but
this also has to do with my question:
How do you guys work with different outgoing mailservers?
I have duplicated my mail account 4 times: once for each outgoing
mailserver I want to use. I then just make sure I have selected the
correct mailbox prior to starting a new message. But this hardly is an
elegant solution (I have to fetch mails for all of the accounts to keep
them up to date). As the different mailservers have no log in, I cannot
use them when not accessing via that particular provider. I have been
looking at some mechanism to hack the hosts file, but the tool
"pockethosts" isn't very well suited for this purpose (and haven't found
anything else).

email
Hi, I'm currently using 3 email addresses on my phone plus the sync with my pc.(and home pc)
All I've come up with so far is to set all email pop/imap to only download headers, (and 2 of them only set for the last 3 days only),then I need to "select" manually what email I want to read and download them, the rest I leave for outlook to look after on my PC.
At the end of the day I finish up with a lot of "unread" emails on my phone, BUT once sync'd with pc they are all copied across anyway, just in my "outlook" folders, not my phone email accounts, if all that makes sense.
Any replies of forwards on my phone from any email includes my signature "email" that I prefer to use.
ie seperate work, personal etc
cheers

Server side filtering may be the answer for you.

gmail
I went to Gmail. Now it front-ends 4 different POP3 accounts, and with the spam protection it has it saves me from deleting a lot of crap. Only downside is that although I can read all my email on my Hermes, I can't really manage my Gmail account the way I want from the native mail client on the Hermes. No worries, I can always use the Mobile Gmail java app or go through IE to the mobile Gmail website. It's working for me...ymmv.

application to setup hotmail as push mail

i successfully set up my hotmail in my X1, set the sync frequency to As Items Arrive, intending to activate push mail.
but now everytime i have new mail, i am not notified at all, not even showing of the numbers of new mails in the Today Screen.
i still need to manually go Menu > Send/Receive to update my mailbox.
any1 got solution or what application i need install?
thanks
yes: GMAIL lol
This would be a workaround, but it would work.
1. Create a Gmail account.
2. Forward your Hotmail to Gmail.
3. Set up your Gmail so that you can reply using your Hotmail account. (yeah you can do that...nifty eh?)
4. Go to your Outlook on your phone and set up "gmail-sync" as your push mail account to retrieve from. It's in beta right now but is working 100% perfectly on my Kaiser. (I'm in here because I'm getting a SEX1 in a couple days ) I frickin' LOVE IT - it pushes IMMEDIATELY as soon as the mail comes in. Instructions here:
http://www.google.com/mobile/products/sync.html#p=winmo
5. Now all your e-mails will be stored to your phone permanently too, instead of the inbox getting wiped every time you send receive, or whenever you have your timing set up for that.
6. Forget about Hotmail and start using Gmail lol. Just kidding...but if you set it up that way, you can still use your Hotmail completely, Gmail will be practically invisible to you. (Or is it the other way around? lol)
Seriously, Google's free push e-mail service is amaaazing. I am LOVING it.
ohhh pls tell me how to fwd mails
in aol /hotmail pls
Syncing frequency to As Items Arrive works perfectly for me.
I confirm that both hotmail and gmail works as a push mail on my XPERIA.
For hotmail, you can just use windows live connection setup and choose/set "as items arrive" and set the time as "always". For gmail, you can use the activesync feature on outlook mobile as have been told by deezy7 above.
Or else, you can use the feature from Emoze service.
hi all.
thanks for ur advices.
i did add my hotmail using the Windows Live program, did set to "as items arrive" and did set for "always"
but nothing ever appear in my pjone for new mail unless i do it manually using "send/receive"
i prefer to use my hotmail acc ley.
any1 pls help mi.
thanks

If you would like to have a free account for push mail service you should try Emoze. I have been playing with Emoze and honestly it helps me much to get my XPERIA have numerous mail account which works as a push mail ....
Ok, I did some workaround, created another gmail account and forwarded all my accounts to that one, and I receiving only that one.
Maybe not the best solution , but I prefer not to use online services like mobipush and such where u leave them your user name and password for each account u have...
As an alternative to Emoze i use Seven Beta. It provides near realtime push on most types of account.

Hey icbicb, in response to your other question as well, my suggestion would have been to do what you already did, which is create another gmail acccount I also prefer not to use any other online services, and was very happy when Google came out with Gmail Sync, since I've already been using my gmail account for five years, and don't have to give out sensitive information to yet another company
To those here using other services, I'd suggest you give Gmail Sync a try. Deedee, I noticed you said that Seven Beta provides you with near realtime push. I've noticed with Gmail Sync, and having my Gmail open at the same time on my pc at work, that Gmail Sync pushes in actual realtime! I'll hear the notification on my phone first before my page refreshes to show me my new e-mail! Also, I should mention that I am using gmail plug-ins to autoupdate the screen when new e-mails come in, and the Gmail sync sends them to my phone simultaneously or even before my page refreshes, thus, I know that it is actual real-time. Just like blackberry's service! I'm in love with it right now
icbicb, I'm glad it's working out for you , loyjwe I hope you are able to give this a try...
it's a good solution, but if i transfert the mail from hotmail to gmail they will be of the hotmail box...
And it's a probleme for me...
do you have a solution for that
(excus me for my bad english)
Big advantage of Seven Beta is that it works for almost all POP3/IMAP email systems and it keeps all the accounts separate so that replies from your PPC keep the correct return address.
I have it working on Gmail x 2, Hotmail and a POP3 account and all four accounts are independant of each other.
I said near real time sync as i didn't want to claim real time in case it wasn't. I rarely use the web interface since starting Seven so haven't been in a position to check. As i tell the BB users at work if you have time to compare the two delivery times then maybe you don't need a BB.

Hi titeloo...bad english is okay lol, but, I don't really understand what you mean by "they will be of the hotmail box..." need further explanation!!
@Deedee, gmail does that also....so... for example, when you get mail forwarded to your gmail account, if it was originally sent to your hotmail account, when you reply on the phone, it will reply from the hotmail account. Gmail's set up pretty good that way. I believe right now though they have a limit on the number of accounts you can send mail from, not sure if it is 3 or 4. So it's pretty neat that Seven Beta keeps all accounts separate ...btw very nice avatar
Seven is only restricted by the number of accounts that can be set up in WM, think it's 8 in total, that includes your ActiveSync/Exchange and SMS accounts.
Thanks for the compliment. Always prefer to use real piccies for avatars where practical.

Yahoo email starts downloading all of my email???

I have my Yahoo email setup on my EnergyROM and every once in a while(no certain time) it will start downloading all email in my Yahoo account.
It is set to just download the last 5 days but for some reason it will randomly decide to download all 2000+emails in my Yahoo account. At that point it makes my phone so slow it is nearly unusable and I have to delete the Yahoo email account from the phone which takes about an hour for it to process.
Anyone else have this problem? Any solutions to keep phone from doing this?
***This actually happenened a few time on my old Tmobile Dash also. So that kinda tells me it is a Windows mobile issue??
this happens to me, also...im using the stock rom and it doesnt slow down my phone...it is quite annoying, however....
the best solution I came up w/ is...try clearing out your yahoo inbox on your desk/laptop...since i did that i havent had that problem...
i dont think its a microsoft problem, as i have my mail2web, live.com, & gmail forwarded to the tp2 w/o issues...
I like to keep me email in my Yahoo in case I need to go back to something so emptying reall isn't too good of an option. And win the phone tries to download 5 years of emails from the Yahoo server it cripples the phone. ha!
Any other ideas?

Do you have your yahoo email set up to use POP3 or IMAP? If I have Hotmail set to use POP, it will download all of my messages. Try following the directions here on how to properly set up your yahoo account, and see if that works.

why doesn't my email sync??? HELP...

i've got my own beautiful desire.
wonderfuk thing, but i've got a problem.
i've got 3 email accounts from hotmail and 1 gmail in my phone.
it all works great, and i like it very much.
except for 1 thing, if a delete a message on the server, my phone still saves it.
i want it so sync and delete the messages that are removed from the server.
i check my mail during the day with my phone, at night i check it on my laptop.
there are often emails in my inbox that are rubish, so i delete them.
usually i do this at night (don't know why, but i just like to do my paperwork at night).
so when i want to check my email during the day, my phone syncs with the account i select but still shows all the email i deleted.
so i have to manually delete them from my phone.
i hate this stupid way they made this.
why in *****'s name would i want to save a message that i deleted from the server?
does anybody have a solution to this problem?
because there aren't a lot of good email clients for android.

+ 1 here; my deleted emails are also shown :-(
What type of email you have setup?
POP3, IMAP?
POP3 will not delete emails (if you delete an email from server, it will stay on the device, and vice versa).
In IMAP, if you delete email from server, it will be deleted from the device too (or vice versa -> device-server, on the next sync)
like is said, it's hotmail so it's pop3.
who came up with the brilliant idea to sync imap and not sync pop3?
again, one of those things i so ****ing hate with software.
why does my windows vista mail program (on the laptop) sync beautifully with my account, but not my android mail program?
is android just to retarded to understand how to sync with pop3?
the day somebody comes up with a program that just works.....
it just pisses me off that nothing with the desire is made to be just right, every little rotten thing needs tweaking to make it work right.

..hm I came from a windows mobile device and I synched the same account; deleting an email in outlook has been also deleted on the device - and vice versa!
It's not about android, Desire, or Windows XP. It's how POP3 works.
Even if you setup the same account on 2 different PCs as POP3, you wont be able to delete emails from one PC to the other.
What I suggest is enabling IMAP on gmail and see how it goes.

If it's a gmail account and it used to work on WM but not on Android, then I would delete and re-add the account. My gmail account works great. I delete or mark as read an email on my PC or webmail, and the same goes to my Desire on the next sync.
If we're talking about personal domain (not gmail, hotmail...), then during setup in the Mail application choose the IMAP protocol.
that still deosn't solve the issue with hotmail on the desire.
hotmail is pop3, doesn't do imap.
but it works great with windows mobile.
on android it works like it's just rubbish.
I don't know about that really, I don't use hotmail.
I use gmail, and personal domain/server.
I hope someone else can help you with your hotmail issue.
so nobody knows anything about this?
they can figure out how to get the bleu led to switch on and off, but nobody can make a tweak so hotmail gets synced properly?
I think it's because in the WinMob email app you can tell it to download emails from the last 3 days and anything older disappears automatically.
The Android email apps don't do this but you can set them to delete emails from the server so if you delete the email on your phone it will delete it from the server but you can't do it the other way round.
has anyone found a solution for this.
Starting to annoy me now as well
