[Q] how to switch keyboard in fire phone - Amazon Fire Phone

I was able to install third party keyboard in fire phone, thanks to other threads!
However, I use different keyboards for different input languages. Is there a way to switch keyboard in fire phone w/o connecting it to a PC and doing so using adb tool?
Thanks a lot!

Thank you so much for the reply! do you mean the spacebar in the default keyboard coming with the fire phone? I've changed the keyboard to a third party one and I pressed and held its spacebar, there was no pop up. But if I press and hold the Enter bar, it pops up a setting menu for the keyboard, but no option to switch to another keyboard.

the button to open the "menu of keyboards" depends on the keyboards application itself and vary from other to another. You can find it in the keyboard settings
my Vietnamese language keyboard is the button "," for example

Thanks again for the reply! I tried all non-letter keys on the third party keyboard, but none gave the pop up to switch keyboard, except the Enter key which pops up the menu of setting for that third party keyboard.

btw, I'm talking about switch keyboards, NOT languages. After watching a youtube video, I see that pressing the spacebar can change languages. but that's not what I want, I want to change keyboards, not a different language on the same keyboard.

yes, I am talking about switching keyboard, not the language. But in the fire phone it's appeared to be the same. The menu say "select keyboard language" but it's actually select the keyboard.
I suppose that you don't enable it in a right way. So I suggest you to do in again from the instructions.

An annoying issue which will probably send me looking for another keyboard soon:

2. now if i type parentheses they appear backwards

Numeric keypad with Swype/T9 Trace

Hi guys,
On the Samsung Wave there is a feature called T9 Trace, which basically offers Swype gestures with the qwertz (German) AND the numeric keypad.
In Galaxy S2 there is no Swype for the numeric keypad, but I am using this now for nearly a year and would not like to miss it.
Is there a way/an app to have the numeric keypad WITH the Swype feature on the Galaxy S2 (like T9 Trace in Samsung Wave)?
Thank you in advance.
Nobody knows a keyboard app with numeric layout AND Swype/T9 Trace for the Galaxy S2? Bad news. :-/
I read your message yesterday but i don't get what you're missing with swype. If you need a numeric keypad with Swype just swype from the swype button (bottom left) to the letter F (aka number 5).
That is what we are looking for: Swype with numeric keypad.

It is much faster and comfortable to text.
Right, thats actually a layout called "3x4 layout"
And i'm very sorry i don't know if this exists. Perhaps you can find alternatives that offer that. GoKeyboard, SlideIt.
I dont know which offers this, but have a look yourself now that you know the name of the layout.
Thanks. I searched now for two days and installed a lot of keyboard programmes, but really none of them offered a 3x4 layout PLUS Swype.
Either it was 3x4 or it had Swype on qwertz/qwerty.
That really sucks. :-/
Hey, did you manage to find T9 Trace APK anywhere? or anything similar?
I also make use of the T9 keyboard and would love to be able to swype on it instead of tapping. Let me know if you managed to find something to that effect.

Yeah, I do only use the 3x4 layout and hate tapping, as it is much slower than sliding on it. I really miss "T9 Trace" from Bada.
Unfortunately, I have not found a solution/keyboard app, that supports that technique.
Did anyone find a solution for that problem in the meantime?
For all interested: I found a solution (app) for our problem. Ultra Keyboard from Binary Bulge has got Swype in 3 x 4/numeric keypad layout.
It is still not as good as the T9 Trace on Samsung Wave, bu I am really happy about this.

Hi,
I was searching for the solution for he same problem. I came acress your post.
I was also using Samsung Wave 2 phone. T9 3x4 keypad was so easy to use. Now I have switched to Galaxy S3.
This basic feature is missing in most advanced phones.
In Bada the toggling(Turn On & Off) between T9 dictionary is so convenient in 3x4 keypad itself.
But android is missing that feature. We have to go insite the settings and turn on or off the dictionary. And also i could not find the swype in 3x4 kaypad.
Thanks for your post. you were following it for almost more than a year for the solution

Yeah, I am even still checking out new ways, because Ultra Keyboard is working good for now, but the T9 Trace thing for Wave was slightly faster and more comfortable.
A guy at the Atrix forum told me the TouchPal keyboard app would do the same, but there was a misunderstandig, because I tested it and it does NOT have this feature.
So, still Ultra Keyboard is the only one. Btw, you can toggle it directly in the Ultra Keyboard with the button "TAP". You do not have to change it in the settings. Only dictionary changing is in settings, but with Ultra you can change the menu line (the order) above the keypad, so that you have a button directly for languages. It is not as fast as in the Wave models, but it is only two clicks instead of one.
If you need help, I can provide a screenshot.

That is how I set up the keyboard app with book (for languages) on the left side and smiley (for smileys obviously) on the right side. So, everything is withing one's click reach.

Android Keyboard with numbers!

Noticed this article referenced at another forum. Item #6 shows you how to change the default Android keyboard into a "PC" keyboard with number keys and a lot more long-press symbols. Swiping works great on it... would have never found that feature!

Nice find there! Really Really neat
Works with English. If I try to use it with Finnish settings app crashes.
Tip #12 is a better way to improve the keyboard.
I've always wanted the long press top row for numbers back, but I primarily use my N7 in portrait so the letters are really small with this. Awesome to know that brings the full keyboard back, but I don't think I'll keep it.
Does anyone know if there's a way to use the stock keyboard (so the default QWERTY option) but to add long press numbers to the top row?
Nice.
Thank u.
I was using hackers keyboard before.but now I will use this,

This now has a full keyboard with numbers, no long presses and gestures.

Got the PC thing working but agree its not useable in portrait.
As far as long press for numbers, thats what my default android keyboard is on 4.2.1 ROM. Its pretty good actually with swipe feature included but still not as good as Thumb.
I believe it is usable in portrait. The swiping is accurate enough to not have to hit keys right on... the keys are much larger than the Swype keys on my Optimus (3.2") screen, which works too (but not as well). I thought the same when I first changed it, but after using it a few days, I seems to swipe just as fast (and accurately).

unfortunately, I have a new Verizon Note 2, which doesn't have an Android Keyboard. Just Samsung (which doesn't have autocorrect... WTF? and Swype.)
Thanks anyway. Just FYI, Note II users are out of luck.

Double space = a period

I understand that when typing, if you hit the space bar twice in a row, it will insert a period into the text. My question is, how does one add a few spaces into a text without the period automatically popping into place?
My iPhone would also add the period, but if I waited for the cursor to blink once or twice before hitting the space bar a second time, it would just add a space like I wanted. A buddies HTC One works identically to my iPhone in this regard.
If it's a toggle that I need to set, where is it located? I still want the automatic periods, but I also want the option to just add some extra spaces when needed.

Wow I hadn't run into that. Im not sure either but if you go 3 spaces then click in front of the period and delete it then you can click 2 spaces out again. Thats how I got around it just now anyway. Might try different keyboards in the market if you hate this.

Try asking in the general Android Q&A as this is an Android issue, not an OGP issue.
But alas, I do not have the answer you seek.
Go into your phone settings and look under the "General" tab. Scroll down to tap "Language & Input" then scroll down further. I have this feature with the LG keyboard, so I tap the settings icon next to the "LG keyboard" option n scroll a bit to find the "auto punctuation" feature. Uncheck that box

Thanks for the reply, but i realized that in OP.
I don't want to turn the feature entirely off. I want to have the double space period, but I also want the ability to add some spaces when needed, without the period automatically popping up. As mentioned in the OP, I could have it both ways, concurrently, with my previous phone. I'd get the double space period, but if I waited a fraction of a second between spaces then I'd get a space instead of a period.
With this phone (or maybe it's Android), can I only have one or the other and not both?

The new stock Google keyboard doesn't double space period if you delay pressing the space key.
Same goes for the $.99 Swype app (which i use and love)

Just switched over to the Android keyboard (AOSP), and you are correct. Thanks! But, then there is no Path keyboard (which I assume is a take-off on Swype). So, if I use the Android keyboard, and install Swype, it should give me the double space feature of both period and plain spaces, and the swiping of the Path keyboard?
Now, how about getting numbers to be visible above the Qwerty row? Is that possibly an option? I don't see that available on the Android keyboard.

[Q] Can't change language input on keyboard

Does anyone else have any problems switching input languages on the stock Samsung keyboard? On my note 2, once I selected the input languages I wanted, I can just swipe the spacebar and it'll switch between the two. I have both Korean and English selected on my Note 3 but I can't switch between the two at all. Swiping the spacebar does nothing and there's no globe button. The only way I can use the Korean keyboard is if Korean is the only input language selected. Then to switch back to English, I'll have to uncheck Korean and check English again. If both are selected, there's I can't find a way to switch between them. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

You all know that you don't have to even Swype the space bar for languages with common alphabet. The Samsung keyboard has a Swiftkey engine on it and can easily identify up to three languages simultaneously as you type.
I type in French, Spanish and English w/o having to Swype the bar. Great feature. I also take advantage of the One handed operation since the phone is too big for one hand.

I have the exact problem on my note 3 at firstI was able to swap languages.
I have the same problem .
using n7100 4.3 official stock ...
and it's linked with the accessibility I have greenify and enabling it affect language selection ...
waiting for a definite solution ...
Bump, same happened to me after updating to 4.4.2.
I have even manually placed the apk (extracted from a stock firmware) to the /system/app path but the problem is still there. So that means that there's a string somewhere that has been erased or something?
If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate it.
Bump...

enabling any accessibility like LMT and Greenify affect language selection!!!

Hello all,
I've got the Samsung S4, latest firmware, rooted, no custom ROM. When I enable the zWatch sync service under accessibility settings, I no longer have the option to change languages (English-Greek) on the keyboard. If I disable the service all is well again.
Surely there must be some solution !?!??!

This is the T-Mobile Galaxy Note 3 forum. Perhaps checking the Samsung S4 forum might help?
I disabled Google voice typing (unchecked) & Samsung keyboard is the default. Now I can switch languages.

Unfortunately, i did try this trick, but it did not work still. And i do not have any accessibility options enabled anyway. This is getting really interesting. Seems there is a conflict somehow between accessibility services and the keyboard. But looks like there are also other things that affect the same thing on the Keyboard.
I hope we will be able to find it, as i called samsung today, and they only asked me to do a factory reset, as it should be working fine!!!

Thanks!

You can change the keyboard settings on your device; from the Home screen, touch Menu Menu key > Settings Settings Shortcut > Controls Settings Controls Tab Icon > Language and input Language and Input Icon . Your device comes preloaded with the Samsung keyboard and Swype® keyboard. You can specify the default keyboard to be used by touching Default under Keyboards and input methods.
