I understand that when typing, if you hit the space bar twice in a row, it will insert a period into the text. My question is, how does one add a few spaces into a text without the period automatically popping into place?
My iPhone would also add the period, but if I waited for the cursor to blink once or twice before hitting the space bar a second time, it would just add a space like I wanted. A buddies HTC One works identically to my iPhone in this regard.
If it's a toggle that I need to set, where is it located? I still want the automatic periods, but I also want the option to just add some extra spaces when needed.

Wow I hadn't run into that. Im not sure either but if you go 3 spaces then click in front of the period and delete it then you can click 2 spaces out again. Thats how I got around it just now anyway. Might try different keyboards in the market if you hate this.

Try asking in the general Android Q&A as this is an Android issue, not an OGP issue.
But alas, I do not have the answer you seek.
Go into your phone settings and look under the "General" tab. Scroll down to tap "Language & Input" then scroll down further. I have this feature with the LG keyboard, so I tap the settings icon next to the "LG keyboard" option n scroll a bit to find the "auto punctuation" feature. Uncheck that box

Thanks for the reply, but i realized that in OP.
I don't want to turn the feature entirely off. I want to have the double space period, but I also want the ability to add some spaces when needed, without the period automatically popping up. As mentioned in the OP, I could have it both ways, concurrently, with my previous phone. I'd get the double space period, but if I waited a fraction of a second between spaces then I'd get a space instead of a period.
With this phone (or maybe it's Android), can I only have one or the other and not both?

The new stock Google keyboard doesn't double space period if you delay pressing the space key.
Same goes for the $.99 Swype app (which i use and love)

Just switched over to the Android keyboard (AOSP), and you are correct. Thanks! But, then there is no Path keyboard (which I assume is a take-off on Swype). So, if I use the Android keyboard, and install Swype, it should give me the double space feature of both period and plain spaces, and the swiping of the Path keyboard?
Now, how about getting numbers to be visible above the Qwerty row? Is that possibly an option? I don't see that available on the Android keyboard.

The numbers at the top of the keyboard is the only reason I haven't changed my keyboard yet as I have not found a way to do it on androids keyboard. Or found any keyboard that I like.

Story:
I am a proud Desire Z owner and have to say the Vision is amazing with its keyboard. One thing I still hate about day to day tasks is switching between Google Talk and MSN apps. I hate reaching up to the notification bar from the keyboard.
So I wrote an app to solve this problem. I call it QuickSwitch.
By taking advantage of the quick keys on the keyboard, I wrote an app that basically launches other apps. It's configurable which apps you want favourit-ed and how many running apps to show. I also made it mimic alt-tab function by pressing Quick key 1 and comma. This would switch back and forth between apps very quickly.

Thanks!
nice idea, but if your just using it to switch between gtalk and msn why don't you just install ebuddy and run both together?
its configuable to switch between any app.
i like the ability to make the quick keys function like alt and tab. im downloading it right now, will come back with comments
edit:
i think i misunderstood, can this make the quick keys function as alt or shift? i hate the placement of they keys and i hate the quick keys theyre pointless, i like better the keyboard layout on the merge
is there anyway to assign the quick keys the alt or tab function?
aside from that though, its pretty cool app and its fast too. good job
do you mean using TAB to switch versus comma and period key? I can look into making that possible. did I understand you correctly?
so it kinda mimics what happens when you hold the home key?
yes. there's recent running apps as well as favorite apps. its makes toggling apps a lot easier.
no i meant more like a keyboard remapping. i want the two center quick keys to act as either alt or shift
Very cool app! Thanks!!

Thanks! If you could add a rating / comment in the market, that would be appreciated.
How can I make it better? I am adding icon overlays to indicate which ones are Favourites and which ones are Running. Next, I'm thinking about long press running icons to add them as Favourites.

Done. A well earned 5 *'s
As for making it better, I honestly think it is one of those rare gems that comes out the box 100%, its perfect for what it is used for. I like the clean look it has so I would have to see what overlay you use to judge if it will be good. Long pressing an app to add does sound good however.
You get these kind of apps once in a blue and what ends up happening is the dev always thinks that he/she has to improve it and just adds up making it bloated. I like it as is. Here's a great piece of advice; make a version with what you plan to add and put it up as a donate version, feel out the market, then just tidy the code up for this one and sit on it. You do great work.

Thanks for your feedback. Your suggestion is a good one. I can certainly split it up into two apps.
I am also thinking about how this can be used for devices with no keyboard. Maybe splitting the screen into two halfs - left selects from favourites and right selects from running. Hmm...
I love your app. Idk if it goes into two rows when u got a lot of shortcuts set but would be nice. Thank you for this wonderful app!

you guys
you all know that if we press either volume rocker on our sweet wp7 devices, a bar slides down with volume level and ring/vibrate/silent icon
i think that there's a lot of wasted blank space between those. i know that if you listen to music/radio the play controls jump there, but if you don't, there's nothing much going on over there
do you like the idea to put the quick on/off toggles (wi-fi, cell data, location etc.) in that space? check out the attachment
the icons would of course have to have 2 looks to distinguish if a feature is on/off. furthermore, if you listen to music/radio, there would be a couple of icons in that space and they wouldn't fit in 1 view, so all of them would be scrollable (left/right), e.g. you pause the music, scroll right to toggle bluetooth, scroll left to unpause etc.
and lastly, the user should have the option to decide what toggles he/she would like to display there
p.s. i'm very sorry for crudely using paint but i wanted to share this with you asap, otherwise i'd forget
I got the idea. Already thought about it. Maybe in a custom rom?
these kind of shortcuts should be done by MS, because WP7 is full of tiny features that make huge difference and enormously improve using the OS, i'm surprised they won't be in mango
Yeah, it should. I agree with you, and probably everyone does.
Don't know why MS didnt do it.
Having them at the top with those small icon feels cluttered.
I think I would preffer something like a long swipe to the right on the startscreen and there you have them...
Either it pops out on top of the screen, or moves everything a little bit to the right, like the pictures below.
And since its a togglebar it has autohide.

this is very sweet but i fear that the long swipe would not register 100% of times for everybody, a fool-proof gesture is needed here. here's an idea:
the icons would slide into view after touching anywhere below the little right hand arrow, there's plenty of space there. after toggling sth they would hide themselves after 2 seconds

This one makes great use of the so far wasted space on the right, the os could really do with these as it makes a big difference in the speed of shutting things down.
That is not a good idea since people touch there when they swipe up and down, and also when they swipe to get to the app-list. And its not intuitive and logic to have a press function in the empty black space without a button. Also, we already have the app-list to the right of the screen, its more logic to add new feature to the other side where we dont have anything.
You have to distinguish the action as much as possible so it doesnt confuse users with other actions and features.
We swipe to get the battery-life and reception to show, why not swipe to see the toggles?
i like our little brainstorm you're right, it's not intuitive to tap a blank space, so i guess an additional button under the arrow icon would be a better idea. mango added an additional button on the app list used to search through apps (also under the arrow icon, so the toggle button would be quite consistent)
i know that we use that blank space to slide from the home screen to the app list (i however start sliding from anywhere on my tiles), and when we do that we keep our finger on the screen and move it, so i think this gesture wouldn't be registered as an accidental tap. either way, the additional toggle button i mentioned above solves everything
A button is defenitely better in that case.
Anyway, MS needs to give us something along these lines.
I'm not good at photoshop, but.. it would be nice above the app list. When you slide to your app list, it shows above it the toggles.
Funny, I was just posting these Meego videos in another thread to show the notification system... I could see all the toggles being at the top of the notification page where Meego has the weather.

As for the original post, unfortunately it wouldn't be very intuitive to use the volume rocker to access wifi or Bluetooth.
I would pay $0.99 for that, especially from an xda member.

Spire mobile banking app only in landscape
Commenity good sam's credit card log in refreshes when tapping username or password fields (tested on edge and Samsung internet both using desktop and mobile site) only when I use outer screen did it work. I didn't try chrome cause I've been trying to oust chrome.
YouTube randomly launches in multivideo or regular mobile version displaying only one video spread across screen.
Log in button on xda doesn't function on edge only on chrome. Which is what I'm using to post this.
If you got answers or resolutions lmk. If you got bugs post em .
I noticed sometimes when I tap things near the bottom of the screen in an app the phone will briefly flash another app as if it thinks I want to swipe to that app. Sometimes it actually does switch to another app. Does this happen to anyone?
If I use Bixby to set a timer, then move the little on screen timer to somewhere convenient it resets to its default position upon changing folding and/or screen orientation

I think your finger activated the bottom home/back gesture. You can turn on the gesture guide so there is more offset from bottom so less accidentally activation.

In hopes that somebody from Samsung may actually come across this I'll add another thing.. this is copied and pasted from multiple Reddit posts I made earlier tonight
On the Z Fold 3 I noticed that if you change minimum width on the main large screen it also affects the smaller screen. Does anybody know if there is a way to have Bixby routines manipulate developer options so that I can set one width for main screen and one width for smaller screen?
Anyways it'd be nice to have this option available rather than just zoom and font size options via Bixby routines

Yeah thanks for the helpful response bud
Awesome stuff the more this thread gets hits the more eyes we can get on it and hopefully some solutions or even better a dev might be able to help us out.
Many of us need to make use of the taskbar functionality and hence, are forced to make the switch to one UI home from our favorite launchers.
I am looking to add some homescreen gestures to quickly access apps for eg. Double tap to email, swipe up to google keep etc.
Anyone knows how closest we can get to having these gesture shortcuts using one ui?
Not a simple way unfortunately. Miss the Nova shortcuts I used to use. But the task bar is kinda worth it for me at least at the moment.
Yeah. Totally. Taskbar is almost indispensable.
I wonder why samsung didn't add native gestures to the home ui.
Check out the other thread where there's a solution identified to having both the Taskbar + Nova. I'm still sticking with One UI (for now!) because I don't want to lose the real estate of the nav keys on the home screen, Nova always refreshes/lags when you open the inner diplay, and Nova doesn't use the inner display efficiently if you want to have it mirrored on the outer display and look reasonable.
The one thing I'm missing with One UI is the gestures, for me it's more about replicating a gesture to call on Sesame Search or Finder search with two-finger swipe down, which is muscle memory for me. I have the Sesame widget on my home screen but if I'm not on the first page, then I have to go home and then click the widget - meh.
Otherwise I'm totally OK with One UI, I've managed to have custom icons the way I like and the variable grid sizes, while not ideal, are sufficient, all without the current Nova downsides on the F4.
The nova + taskbar option you mentioned is not exactly the full taskbar experience.
For gestures, use one hand operation app and have side swipes anywhere on the device.
The muscle memory thing, yeah! That's difficult to argue against.

Fair enough, works for me, after all can get to pretty much everything using sesame, but understand why. If you drag the sesame icon to a screen side and search for app/whatnot and press enter the action opens in that screen space as well.

It's just about clicks. I don't want to search for Phone, Spotify, Outlook, Signal or Camera 1000x a day , but you make a valid point too!
I've been searching high and low in the Play Store for a broad gesture app, but zero luck so far.

I don't take that many pictures, i guess it's just always there (in the dock) if the phone is on so don't need to even think about it. Going to give it a try though, probably easier to get used to having sesame always in the dock and reminding myself to double-press the power button for a pic, than the alternative of tracking down sesame to find an app 100x a day!
Hey all,
I got my Fold4 a little over a week ago. The version of Google Messages on my Fold3 has a few additional features that are missing on the Fold4. The feature with which I'm primarily concerned is the reminder function. On the Fold3 I can long press on any individual message within a conversation and a little clock appears up at the top of the app. Tapping on the clock gives me the option to schedule a reminder to respond to the message. There is no such feature available on the version of the app installed on the Fold4. Anyone else missing this? I want it back.
I could be wrong, but I think this was a Samsung Messenger feature and not Google Messages. I just tried it on my S22 Ultra and Fold 4, neither worked in in google, but the long press both worked in the Samsung app.

Copy that! In all fairness, I wasn't aware that this was a feature until tonight lol. Kinda disappointed I can't get the extra features in google too.
I'm pretty sure I've figured out the explanation now, but it still doesn't make good sense. The version installed on my Fold3 is "messages.android_20220822_05_RC00.phone.openbeta_dynamic" whereas the version installed on my Fold4 is "messages.android_20220822_05_RC00.phone_samsung_dynamic." The menu icon has changed from the Google Account Profile icon to the typical 3 dot button. When using Messages with the phone closed (just the front cover display), the conversations are shifted down lower on the Fold4's version, making it easier to reach the top conversation without using two hands. And there are a few other minor but convenient feature changes. But none of these changes should necessitate the removal of reminders. Screenshot of the reminder button on my Fold3 is attached.

What the heck is the "contact menu?" If you're simply referring to the message list on the cover screen, I think the design/layout update makes sense. I can now reach the top conversation with my thumb when using a single hand.
Yes i'm referring to the messages list. I think It is a terrible design choice to force people to only be able to see 6 text messages at start. This should be a checkbox option.
I've hadn't have any issues sending timed messages. I know in the Google Messages version, after typing out your message, press and hold down on the send arrow and it lets you set a specific time to actually send the message.

That's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about setting reminders for individual messages within a conversation. You're talking about scheduling messages to be sent automatically at a later time.

I disagree. It's a much better design. You can easily scroll down if you want to see more conversations.

My apologies. I misunderstood. The closest thing I could find to what you are looking for is in relation to the app itself and not individual messages within the conversation....

Take a look at the screenshots I shared earlier in this thread
Uninstall the app and download the Google beta version from app mirror. Done and dusted.

It has to be removed via ADB, as it's a bundled app. Admittedly, I haven't yet tried that.
Use adb appcontrol. It's free and you can just disable it. It's a windows app.
Google finally fixed this issue with the latest version of the app.
