I just installed my first ROM after rooting my SGS3. AOKP seemed like exactly what I was after and I am not disappointed. Excellent work by the authors. Anyway, I wiped data, cache, dalvik cache, and installed. Everything is working perfectly except for one problem. When I send an SMS, the phone always says it failed to send even though it sent fine. The recipient received the message. Incoming texts are fine as well.
I tried with both the standard messaging app and Handcent SMS. So far the only message which managed to go out without an error was "Test", and I don't know if that was a coincidence or because it was so extremely short.
Internet and data connections are fine. Just that for some reason, it believes that the texts I send out are not making it even though they are.
I tried messing with the APN settings, messaging app settings, no difference. Obviously, texting was working fine before I rooted/flashed.
Does anyone have ideas as to how to fix this?
Thanks.
I have this exact issue as well. Someone respond please!

I uninstalled my 3rd party messenger and then went to settings/apps/all/messaging, cleared that ****, then restarted the phone and walla. I hate the stock messaging app but at least I can send texts now. I suspect the next build won't have this issue.
Are u running the latest build?

This issue has been fixed a while ago if you are using Tasks AOKP. But only stock messenger app works OK. 3rd party apps still don't work and the developers of those apps need to update. You guys should search. Its been mentioned many many times.

Thanks for that. Ya that seems to work. The messages sent without an error. Don't know yet if the other person received them. I'm on the 12/23/2012 build and there is a Jan one so I'll try that next.

Did search, extensively. Maybe didn't search for the right thing because even tho I found similar issues with SMS, none were this particular issue. I did all I could before posting here.
As for the developers needing to update - the messaging app I was using works just fine on the stock SGS3 so why would they need to fix it? Doesn't look like the problem is theirs.

Thanks for the recommendation. I installed the Jan.10 build and the problem is gone! Working correctly with both the stock messaging app and Handcent SMS.
Love it.
Just wanted to see if anyone else has been experiencing the same thing. I haven't experienced any lag with this phone whatsoever except for the stock messaging app.
1) Sometimes when I open the messaging app, the preview of a text messaging thread may be from many hours ago and then "refresh" itself to the most recent text. Essentially when I open the app, the preview shows a much older text message and then after a couple seconds will show the most recent one.
2) Sometimes when I push send on a message, it will take a second before the text is actually sent so if I continue to text, it will add on to the previous message until sent.
The only way I've found to correct this is to switch to the "SMS/MMS" tab, which seems to correct the lag, but of course any time you push the back button out of the app, it goes back to the deault "all messages" tab when opening. I also tried holding down the tab titles and it brings you to a screen which it almost looks like HTC was going to give the option to remove other tabs but the boxes cannot be unchecked.
Anyone else running into these issues? Find a solution?
Yeah ive noticed the same weirdly enough I don't feel lag when using sliding messaging app or textra

I don't recall having any of those issues but for me what happens is when I open the message app, in the list of people I've been texting, it shows their phone number for a second, and then it switches to their name. And it only happens once in a while. Like right now, it's not happening. Weird

Same here. Kind of annoying, but I had so many problems with go sms and hand cent on my rezound not sending group messages correctly. I'm scared to change and lose a working "group messaging app".

I have these two issues.
This stock HTC Messages app automatically closes when you back out of sending a reply message, so it doesn't refresh the preview list like previous HTC phones on a reply. On the same token, it appears that it completely quits the Messages app, requiring you to load the names from the Contacts app when you open the Messages app without replying to a message. If you press Home rather than Back, when you open the Messages app again, it loads the messaging screen with the contact you most recently messaged, the person to whom you just replied. If you open the app and send a message, then press Back, it loads the list again, and everything is all good. It's all very odd.
Well glad to see I'm not the only one. I had tried Handcent, Chomp, etc with nothing but lag and other issues. Thanks to the response from NSRpxndxhou, I tried Textra and actually really like it. Best replacement text app I've tried.
I like how HTC's stock messaging app looks, but it ended up simply being too slow. I switched to Textra, enabled the dark theme and never looked back. Silky smooth performance, even with giant threads.
I am in the middle of an email conversation with the guys at Textra. I love the app. But my group messages are not working correctly. Those guys are great. Within one day I got an email with an update to try.... make that two updates. Just got another one while typing this.

Textra does seem nice, but there are a couple things I would miss from the stock messaging app. I like the ability to search ALL your text messages to find a specific text. I also prefer to have the time stamp on each and every text like the stock application does. I also don't like how it shows the contacts phone number below their name.
I would likely use this as a stock replacement if they were able to integrate all those features.

You may want to consider going into messaging->settings->general and adding a text limit (default at 200). When you do this you will notice your messaging to be a bit more zippy. This is because its not trying to open all of your old previous messages (which can be in the thousands).

I had a Messaging app issue when I had too many messages, which was fixed by deleting them, but that whole "reloading" issue seems to be separate.
Even with a few messages, it tends to reload upon reopening the Messaging app. Really weird why it does it...

Had this issue as well, found out that if you go to the stock messaging app settings > MMS > then connection settings, this gives you the APN. Copy that URL and paste it in the Textra MMS settings. Mines worked flawlessly ever since. Not experiencing any lag like the stock messaging app, and have noticed no difference in features.

I would like to get back the Messaging App that was available prior to 4.3, can it be restored?
Is there a way to used the messsaging apk that is on the Samsung Galaxy S4 and prior?
It was simple, easy, and worked.
Does such a messaging app live in the exposed mods?

There is no stock messaging app besides Hangouts. As far as I know, you cannot text on a tablet without Hangouts, Google Voice etc. The messaging app for a phone is not on a tablet. There are apps out there that will let you pair your tablet with your Android device though so you might want to try that. The messaging app from phones are not able to work on a tablet for a few reasons.
1. Not Supported
2. You need a texting plan for your tablet. ( I'm not sure if you can do this or not. I have the wifi version)
3. Texting someone means you need a phone number to text from and obviously our Nexus 7s aren't phones so you can see where that goes wrong.
I was able to get sms messaging on my 3G nexus 7 using the apk posted here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2178697
I am able to send and receive sms as its enabled on my data plan, it also has a phone number but it unable to accept calls
Thanks for the reply but I use wifi with my Nexus 7 and would like to have a messaging program like exists on the phone. Currently I'm using Mighty Text. It works alright and also works with the computer but it's not as simple and easy to use as the messaging app on Galaxy S 4

the N7 is my only phone so mighty text 'tablet version' is useless. the phone version is not white-listed for the n7 on the play store.
I pulled mighty text 'phone version' off my previous phone with 'apk extractor'. installed and works great along with go SMS pro.

Unfortunately Skype is crap on the N7 and the reliability & call quality is nothing like the iPhone version of Skype.
Hence I then pulled the new Android Skype 4 from a whitelisted phone with apk extractor app and installed on the N7 .. unfortunately Skype reliability and call quality is still crap.
I am now using a SIP VOIP option (PennyTel) and it is much more reliable with better call quality.
Unforunately the Samsung HM5000 does not answer calls using the pick-up button .. but perhaps there are some hacks or apps to make it work.
No changes to Go SMS Pro .. just intstalled my mobile phone SIM and it worked .. perhaps there are differences between carriers.
Hi all,
So far everything has been working smoothly but I've run into one issue with the 360 that I can't figure out. When I try to reply to an SMS it seems to do nothing vs. asking for a voice response, and for email, it just opens the app on the phone with a reply message waiting to be typed in.
I had thought that you could use voice to respond? I'm using a Nexus 4 with CM11 M11, and Google Now API 1.4 through Xposed.
Anyone else having this issue?
Thanks,
Ben

I had the same issue when I first got mine. I found that replys are currently only supported using Hangouts for SMS and the actual Gmail app for email. The stock SMS/email apps only support viewing. Once I switched them over everything worked perfectly.

Well that's lame. It's just like how Google leaves out an easy way to get unread counts for non-Gmail accounts in the beginning. Hopefully they adjust this.

There are several third party apps able to do it, like 8sms.

Thanks, I'll have to look into that. I've also found WearMail which seems to handle emails better, but given the low review count and the fact that it's a closed source app which asks for login credentials, I'm going to hold off on it for a while.
Hi. BL unlocked and rooted VZ Pixel XL. After root I noticed that I could no longer attach a pic or media to a message using VZ messenger. No matter what I choose I get an error message saying "Message + keeps stopping". Odd thing is that if I select the pic in Google photos and use share, then select VZ messenger I can attach and send the pic. I tried attaching a photo using the stock messenger and have no problems. Anyone else experiencing this?

I have the same issue...can receive mms and group texts just not send them... unlocked and rooted on a Verizon Pixel XL...must be something with root...cuz it worked before that...can anyone else confirm with the OP and myself if they have any mms issues after root on Verizon?
OP did mms work before rooted? I tried Verizon messages but it force closes on me...and Textra and Google messages just hangs for until I get a send failed notification.
I chatted with Verizon they have no clue what is causing it...has to be the root I'm thinking. Never had this issue before on any other device I have had...
Edit: I read your post wrong seems we have different issues . I can attach pics just they never send. Weird how I can receive then just not reply to a group message at all...?
This is a serious question because I'm curious... Why use Verizon messages?

I hate the app visual but in terms of functions, it's the best and most complete. Send/receive msgs from tablets and computer is huge, honestly it's the one thing I don't understand why Android still doesn't natively do.

You need to use Verizon's messaging app. Verizon has an app for computers and tablets as well. I also use it on my iPad Pro. Works great.
If you're like me, who hates the visual of Verizon's app, you can use their app to set up on other devices, once it's all setup you can go back to Google's Stock app and you still get your texts on every device

Awesome tip, thank you! I hate the look of VZW's app and never use it, so this sounds like a good solution.
I concur, I abhor the UI, but find it tolerable with a lot of customization. I use it because it is amazingly feature rich. The ability to filter conversations by media, links etc is huge for me. The Glympse integration and auto emojis, as well as embedded image search for quick gifs are things I use every day. The picture editor is ungainly, but also very functional. Scheduled messages, auto restore for texts, messaging features like live typing notification, etc.
Atheistic wise, I prefer Textra, but I always find myself wandering back to message+ simply for the features. Again, lots of customization required to be tolerable. Thankfully it allows for that.
