I had a bit of a debacle with the DI18 Gmail app yesterday. I received a really important email and replied to it promptly through the Gmail app, hit send and then took a nap. Two hours later, I wake up and see that my reply was STILL SENDING.
Even worse, I checked my Gmail on a computer and it said the email I replied to WASN'T EVEN READ.
So I flashed the ACS-modified DK28 and it seems to be working better, but now it seems the most important calls I make are MUTED on the other end, and they still connect.
So I'm left with a dilemma: is there a good working email app (Gmail or non-Gmail) out there that just WORKS??? (I've tried K-9 Mail but I didn't really like it) Or should I stay with the working DK28 version and have randomly muted calls?

Honestly there are not many alternatives. You already tried K9. I am not having any issues with calls or gmail. Not sure what is going wrong on your end. Did you wipe everything before flashing?

Yes, I did a complete wipe.
I remember I always had a problem with sync in stock DI18 for some reason, like when I first got the phone. (Actually, on stock DI18, there wasn't even an option to sync my Google Calendar on an account that had one.) That's why I started working with roms and rooting and etc.

No, I'm just using Google accounts. Sometimes they work, sometimes not.
MailDroid is a good option.
I was having the same issue. Make sure auto-sync is checked in Setting->Accounts and Sync. If that doesn't in the Gmail app you can go to your outbox and manually force the email to be sent.

Yes, Maildroid is good but it has an ads.
SEVEN is a push type email app that I've been using since my 755p days, back when it was packaged with my Treo, it was called Sprint Email...but it was created by SEVEN. It's not downloadable from the Market, you have to goto SEVEN's website, click on their beta program and then jump through random hoops until you can download it. I had it on my Moment and now me Epic and I love it. I run 6 different email accounts, from Yahoo, Hotmail, Gmail, and AOHell and they all work perfectly, show images (from Harbor Freight ads for example) and even shows unique icons on the taskbar for each email account. Just make sure to set it up correctly, otherwise it'll do things like not check email during certain hours or on the weekends (a feature I'd never use) or below certain battery percentages. No ads and a great app, and it even comes w/ a beta IM app.
Hey guys,
I have SGS2, and I wonder if there is some application that will show me notification when I receive sms on my computer, and I should be able to reply to it from computer too ? I tried "Remote Notifier for Android" from market, and at first glance it looks really nice, but sms notifications doesnt work, and I cant reply to sms via computer aswell. Is there some other app which can do this ?
NOTE: I dont want web-service based apps, that require me to have service started on my phone and to connect through browser from my computer, I want standalone app that communicates with phone through wireless, just like Remote Notifier.
try MightyText.
not sure if it is out of beta yet but it does works. you just need to log in to your gmail account.

True. I guess it is because of the fact you can't 'push' that data to a pc. I believe there's an app needed (like the plugin for the MightyText app) to 'convert' that data to make it 'recognizable' (the data between pc and phone).
Notifications can't be pushed. Only the data itself.
So i believe, what you are looking for, doesn't exist (yet).
Can someone confirm?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
i think yes, it does not exist yet. but many people satisfied with how MightyText works if you follow from the first Beta release. i think many people actually find this type is already convenient so far, instead of how you asked. maybe not yet. you can try PM the dev and state your suggestion/opinion maybe.
Remote Notifier for Android does the exact thing I need, except its stopped developing and some features dont work. I searched yesterday alot to find some similar app, but no success.
@LuffyPSP
I already discussed with one of colleagues, and will start developing it in next few days.
I think MyPhoneExplorer might be able to do what you ask. You might wanna give it a try!
Maybe it can, but MPE requries phone to be connected with USB
Hi all, How are you?
I have a Galaxy Nexus with Android stock 4.1.1 JR003C and Facebook app 1.9.8.
I am experiencing a weird issue with latest fb app update, May someone help me please?
I have turned on all notifications on my fb account and on the app settings, but I still don`t get any notifications at all.
I mean, I have push notifications enabled on fb app and also in my fb account. However, I don`t receive any notifications on my cell phone.
I have tried clean the fb app cache/data and also re-install it. However, It didn`t fix this issue.
Please, does someone know what can be this issue root cause?
Thanks in advance,
Roger

Make sure allow notifications is ticked in the Android App Options or use G+ or the browser

just wanted to chime in that im not receiving notifications even though ive made sure all the proper options are checked.
running mROm.
Facebook notifications on Android 4.x are VERY buggy. Try a Google search on the matter. For some people it works, for others it has never worked. Despite all settings are OK. I fixed mine by lending a Blackberry device from someone and logged into Facebook using the BB Facebook app for that one time. The theory is that allowing the BB app access to your FB account somehow fixes notifications for Android as well. This workaround has proved to fix it for many people myself included. Worth a shot imho.
The only way mine work was to activated bb on facebook. Hello facebook android is not a bb!

Hi all,
thanks a lot for helping
I was wondering, besides the blackberry workaround, is the another workaround for this issue?
I don't know anyone with a blackberry
Is there a kind of blackberry emulator for developers that I can use?
Btw, all notifications settings on Facebook website and on Facebook Android app are correct. Fb app notifications have stopped to work on my cell phone after the latest fb app update...
Google plus looks like good choice, but nobody uses it.
Access fb website on cell phone doesn't give me push notifications.
Thanks in advance,
Roger

Guys, same thing here! Notifications not working! Galaxy Note, using AOKP 4.0.4 ROM.
In fact, I had this problem in the past, but I solved it using exactly this BlackBerry method. Now it's not working again! I even did this BlackBerry login thing using emulator again, but still without notifications here. As my birthday was on August 27, I thought that, maybe, due to lots of notifications about "happy birthday", Facebook stopped on purpose all those notifications, but now I'm noticing it's in fact a bug!
Please, Roger, tell us if it will work to you! As I said, I tried this again and now it's not working!
And I really don't know when Facebook will made decent apps for Android. Probably Mark Z. is an stupid Crapple fan boy!

Did this tomorrow before going to sleep, after doing one more time BlackBerry trick. A few hours ago, when I woke up I noticed a Facebook notification, about a comment in a picture I was tagged. I became happy, because I thought the issue was solved, but I had more notifications after that and it's not working again.

I have also tried wiping Facebook app cache, and also reinstalling the app itself.
Unfortunately, neither worked.
does this notifications issue only affects galaxy nexus?

No, it's an issue of the Android Facebook app. It's supposed to get a major overhaul that will be released in the next few weeks, just like iOS. Let's hope that will fix a lot of issues including buggy notifications.

let me clarify it for you. Google had blocked Facebook syncing on android because of privacy issue. Facebook notification doesn't have any issues with privacy, so that's why Google only blocked contact syncing

I am aware about this privacy disagreement between Google and Facebook (I am very concerned about my privacy on internet), but the majority of the users don't care about it. Besides, I think that blocking fb sync is stupid decision as it is very unlikely that fb will do something about it...
I hope that Android will lose market share to Apple with new IOS with fb integration, thus Google might realize that it was a bad decision, and hopefully will stop to force users to use Google plus (it is good, but nobody uses it).
Btw, I have just received an update for fb app(1.9.9) and it didn't fix the notifications issue. Did it fix this issue for someone?
I think it's a horrible app you can't see who is online or busy or whatever. This is not a chat service anymore. There is no contact list basically listing all the people from your G+ and contacts. It's horrible!. In every level. I have to scroll through 800 contacts or search just to send a message and it doesn't even let me know if that person is online, so I have no idea how they are getting my messages
I have to agree. This is pretty terrible. They even removed the calling option so its just video now, as if video-only makes sense on a PHONE.
Hopefully Talk isn't dead by the end of the year.

I'm going to agree as well. I dont like that I cant see who's online. And almost all of my contacts dont have this service so, in my opinion, they shouldnt show up at all.

I did that as soon as it asked me to confirm my phone number. I really just want the built-in IM that came with my account, not a Whatsapp clone to replace it. I already have Whatsapp.
Hopefully Talk never dies. Hangouts is social media disguised as instant messaging.
So after watching a video on it, I realized it does show who is online by displaying their profile pic at the bottom when they join the hangout. But still, it shouldnt display ALL my contacts in the contact list. Just the ones who have the ability to use it.
Idk maybe it's just me, but I like the new hangout. You can send screenshots again and everything. Granted, it takes some getting used to, but after playing with it a bit, its growing on me

I just wish it was a proper unified messaging app - i.e. could send carrier SMS to non-Hangout contacts. Incidentally, anyone know what happens to the message if you do try and send to someone who doesn't have it? Must get routed somewhere?

I would think this only works with Gmail/Google+ users. Which, again, is why not all contacts should not be displayed. I'm going to try and search for some info on this.

Why would you think this would happen? Google doesn't want you using carrier SMS anyway. They will shift us to internet-based messaging completely someday. That's why you didn't get SMS integration.
I'm guessing it gets sent to their Google Talk.

So if you go and try to start a hangout it will show you a list of people to start the hangout with, people not available(offline) has their picture grayed out and the available(online) are shown as usual. As far as the video calling-I think if the person on the other end doesn't have video calling available(due to no front facing camera on their phone or no camera on the desktop/laptop) only voice calling will be the option available....have to test it though... I think it's fresh and after awhile it will get better...I don't hate it.
Sadly a lot not to like so far. I was wondering why there were duplicate users in my contact list, if they are showing non-gmail email accounts separately I guess that explains it. Unfortunately, it doesn't show what account users in the list are coming from so you don't know which one you can use, if any.
Hopefully they will fix the contact mess and re-add status information (online/busy/offline, mobile/desktop). I like the new emoji, but hardly seems worth the great leap backwards in functionality.
On the plus side, you can finally copy text from your message history, so that's one longstanding, inexplicable failure corrected

This is what is really annoying. It feels like a dumbed-down product even though its been in the making for what seems like forever. It even requires you to join G+ to get the most out of it. Plus, its not even really that unified, as people still have G+ messenger since this only replaces Talk.
Heck, the app rating in the Play store has plummeted to 3.9 as I type this. What a joke.
completely useless.
I can't believe it took them two years to make this.
google talk was MUCH better, and compared to let's say, whatsapp, google talk was completely useless. that's how bad this thing is.
Hello everyone,
Relatively new Android user here. I've been running Cyanogenmod 12 Nightlies on my Sprint HTC One m8, and for some reason, I cannot seem to get the messaging or email apps to work properly.
When I set CM Messenger as my default texting app, I can receive messages just fine, but when I go to send, it's as if the sending button is disabled. From what I can tell, setting Messenger as the default texting app should enable the send button, but that's simply not the case for me. The only info I've been able to find online said that Voice + caused this problem, but I think that was specific to CM 11. I don't recognize any apps on my phone that would be the Android L equivalent of Voice +.
As for Email, whenever I try to connect my gmail account, I get a message saying that verification couldn't be completed because the password is wrong. After this, the app closes automatically, and upon reopening it, the app seems to be hung up on syncing but never actually does anything. I've tried linking my account both automatically and manually — both methods yield the same result.
The odd thing is that 3rd party messaging and email apps work just fine. I've been using them as a workaround, but I'd really like to use the stock apps if possible! And aside from that, I'm totally stumped and would really like to figure out what is causing this issue. Any insight you could provide would be very much appreciated!

Hello,
Thanks for your reply! I have been using a third party sms app for the time being, but I'd still really like to figure out what's causing this issue.
