I'm a little confused. I thought updates couldn't be pushed to a rooted aftv with CWM? I was initially happy to see HBOGo finally came to fire tv, then disappointed my cable provider doesn't support it (but not too surprised since they suck!)
But then it occurred to me...how did this happen? I'm rooted and I have CWM and I use the latest pre-rooted firmware. I didn't think updates could occur.
My root isn't broken, bootloader is unlocked and everything works fine. Maybe when I reset it in cwm a few weeks back I did n't disable updates afterward (since then I did check and made sure I disabled them) but even if I did forget I thought updates couldn't happen?
Then I thought maybe app updates are different but that still makes no sense since I needed to upgrade my firmware to get the new Netflix app awhile back. Can someone explain this? Thanks.
Firmware update wasn't required for HBO GO afaik.

Hi
few weeks ago I rooted my phone and flashed with CM10, turns out the camera app is gash and wouldn't work, flash was 5 seconds late and no pics in gallery?? whats that about
anyhoo
I am now back to stock rom but not original 4.1.1 I am on 4.1.2 courtesy of N7100XXDLJ2_N7100OXADLJ2_OXA
so my question is.....am I still rooted and if not would I still get 4.2 when released OTA or via KIES
Cheers for your help
Lee
To see if you're rooted, check your app drawer for an app called super user. As for ota, go in to settings and about device, software update, update. it'll tell you if you can get ota or not which is not really important anyway seeing that you're into this modding stuff.
No Super User app in app draw, going to updates it does try to connect to the server but says "the latest updates have already been installed"
Safe to assume I am no longer rooted, can I also assume that any future updates will still come through to my phone? even though I have been rooted at some point
Already on 4.1.2 so am wondering about version 4.2
Any clues please
Cheers
Lee
Hello
Apologies if this has been covered before, but couldn't find anything in search.
I'm setting up a new UK unit which is currently running 51.1.4.0_user_514005520. Can I update to 51.1.4.0_user_514006420 (1 version up) without root? That's the version that fixes kodi/spmc launch crash. I'm thinking maybe there is a dir I can copy the update to and reboot the device. But, even then, I would hazard a guess that you need root to copy it there :/
This is my first experience with a unrooted box since US launch (I imported one and rooted from the start) so not sure if this is possible to do. I want to avoid updating to the latest firmware if I can.
Thanks!

Never mind. I think I found the answer. Remembered an old guide on aftnews. Guess you do need root.

Has anyone updated to the new firmware for firetv does kodi still work on this new firmware

The latest just came out yesterday and changes haven't been posted (that I can see)
Why do you ask? If you're unrooted you have no choice but to take it and if you're rooted you don't have it to install...
I doubt any future updates will break kodi. Even though I always get it from the org, Im pretty sure amazon has it in the app store now (not specifically for aftv) but I still doubt after embracing on other devices they'll kill it for one. I could be dead wrong but like I said up top--what choice do you have?
Early days... but some users on AFTnews are reporting it to be working ok
Code:
aftvnews.com/amazon-fire-tv-update-51-1-5-0-and-fire-tv-stick-update-54-1-1-0-have-been-released/
You don't have to take the updates though. You can block them via your router. Actually thats a good idea until you can be sure everything is okay.
I have them blocked but i will unblock the updates just to get this update as it says ul be able to use usb in this udate hopefully they dont block sideloading as i really like kodi on my firetv so just wondering has anyone updated there firetvs
Hi, hoping I could get some help.
I just got a huawei watch and cannot get it to update. It is on version 1.3xxxx. When I try to update it, it says it's already the latest version. Hopefully I'm just overlooking something very obvious as right now I feel stuck in the mud. Thanks for your help in advance!
Same issue here! Own the watch from 4 days now.
Same for me
An idea ?
Ok, i updated my watch with success. I believe that the OTA don't work because my watch is a refurbished one and the OTA system think that my watch is already up to date.
Here's how to update, it's easy:
You have to do an adb sideload of the OTA files:
Tutorial here:
http://phandroid.com/2016/03/02/huawei-watch-marshmallow/
You have to flash this file first if you are stuck in LCB43B:
http://android.googleapis.com/packa...866b47.signed-sturgeon-MEC23L-from-LCB43B.zip
After the reboot, continue with:
https://android.googleapis.com/pack.../6bae896422cb963c01b479eea9838f1b1b0d705e.zip
After that update the OTA worked normally.
Hope this help.
Thanks for starting this thread! I think all the people stuck on older firmware are Canadians with refurbs from newegg (incl me)? However, I am not sure how being refurb has anything to do with it.
My watch did update once from the version it came with, but kept on saying its up-to-date after that. I guess flashing stock image is the only way to go.

The issue with flashing the stock image is that you have to unlock the bootloader, and after that it seems that you loose the warranty.
Better flashing OTA if you want to stay stock. I bought my refurb from newegg.ca too.

Same problem.
Then I took your advice and it worked out great, and without changing the bootloader, thank you so much ndompierre :good::victory:
I got my newegg refurb yesterday and could not force the OTA despite resetting and checking multiple times. This afternoon it updated to marshmallow.
Each time time it reboots, I check for updates. I am currently receiving my fourth update of the day.
I guess each security patch has to be downloaded separately. I'm up to August so far..
I purchased myself a used (good/mint condition) LE2125 phone from Swappa as an Xmas gift and have been using it for about the past week or so. Really liking the phone so far.
But it is still on Oxygen OS 11.2.10.10. And each time I check for updates, it still tells me I'm up to date. I am in the US using the phone with Spectrum mobile, although phone sees the Sim as Verizon.
To my knowledge, phone has never been rooted.
Shouldn't I have received the update by now? Although I am still a little afraid to take it based on the initial update fiasco.
Should I just download the Oxygen Update app and go that route?

I also haven't received on the same device and version. So, it's seems like a slow rollout
If you manually check for updates in settings does it tell you you're up to date? If so, I'd just get the update from Oxygen Updater and do a local install. Some people did have issues with the first release of OOS12 (C36) but those should have all been resolved in the next one (C39). I never had any issues with the update personally.
Thanks,
The Oxygen updater wants to go to C.36 first. And then after that, I think straight to C.40. I will likely wait till later tonight to update as do not want to mess up phone while here at work today.

Probably because C36 is the full update. If it won't let you download both C36 and C40 at the same time (before updating), I'd make sure you have access to wifi in case you're one of the lucky few affected by the mobile network issue in C36. But most likely you'll be fine, the other issues were very minor and you wouldn't even notice if you just install the second update right away.
Does Chrome auto fill work for you on 12? I heard that it was broken, but don't know whether it's been fixed with C40? Holding off on updating until someone can confirm. Thx
EDIT: Decided to bite the bullet and upgraded to C40 on my L2125. I actually like it quite a bit, but can confirm that for me, at least, Chrome auto-fill doesn't work. Other nit is you cannot put the battery percentage in the status bar AND remove the icon; either you have both, none, or just the icon. Also, Netflix is pre-loaded, but won't open or uninstall and update and when I go to the Play Store it shows as incompatible with my device?? (bootloader unlocked, but not re-rerooted yet). Also the power menu no longer gives you a recovery or bootloader option in rebooting. Good things include having more gestures (raise phone to answer) and a panel to control apps that auto-start or not. Also, somehow m yreboot sequence no longer includes the danger, your bootloader has been unlocked, screen (which I didn't think was possible to get rid of).
Rolling back to Android 11 for now. Also, many more root options still available there (like Gravity Box and JamesDSP)
