The latest just came out yesterday and changes haven't been posted (that I can see)
Why do you ask? If you're unrooted you have no choice but to take it and if you're rooted you don't have it to install...
I doubt any future updates will break kodi. Even though I always get it from the org, Im pretty sure amazon has it in the app store now (not specifically for aftv) but I still doubt after embracing on other devices they'll kill it for one. I could be dead wrong but like I said up top--what choice do you have?
Early days... but some users on AFTnews are reporting it to be working ok
Code:
aftvnews.com/amazon-fire-tv-update-51-1-5-0-and-fire-tv-stick-update-54-1-1-0-have-been-released/
You don't have to take the updates though. You can block them via your router. Actually thats a good idea until you can be sure everything is okay.
I have them blocked but i will unblock the updates just to get this update as it says ul be able to use usb in this udate hopefully they dont block sideloading as i really like kodi on my firetv so just wondering has anyone updated there firetvs

I'm a little confused. I thought updates couldn't be pushed to a rooted aftv with CWM? I was initially happy to see HBOGo finally came to fire tv, then disappointed my cable provider doesn't support it (but not too surprised since they suck!)
But then it occurred to me...how did this happen? I'm rooted and I have CWM and I use the latest pre-rooted firmware. I didn't think updates could occur.
My root isn't broken, bootloader is unlocked and everything works fine. Maybe when I reset it in cwm a few weeks back I did n't disable updates afterward (since then I did check and made sure I disabled them) but even if I did forget I thought updates couldn't happen?
Then I thought maybe app updates are different but that still makes no sense since I needed to upgrade my firmware to get the new Netflix app awhile back. Can someone explain this? Thanks.
Firmware update wasn't required for HBO GO afaik.
I have just received my Fire TV for Christmas and rooted, put Kodi on it with Fired Launcher & am totally loving it.
My firmware version is 51.1.0.1 - Should I leave it or try to get the latest? Is there somewhere that I can see what each firmware update brings?? I do have the updates blocked at the moment.

Did you install clockworkmod? Check out aftvnews starters guide. I bought my 2nd aftv a few days ago, same fw as you but I now have cwm with rbox's prerooted fw. The process for that is a little tedious but not that hard just follow the guides. I did it because I want to be able to factory reset if necessary and not lose root. But there are other benefits (none of which we'll enjoy if we lose root.)

If you take a look at http://www.aftvnews.com/software/ you'll see what changes have been made for each official firmware revision. I decided that the latest root able firmware was probably worth upgrading too. Supposedly they've made fixes to the remote and on the fire TV stick there are video improvements.
If you've got the time I'd say it's worth it.
I'll check out the guides. I did not install CWM, but I think I will.
Thanks for the links too.
i updated to 51.1.4.0 version to fix netflix issues. i dont feel the need to go to the latest prerooted fw
Hi,
i'm currently on firmware 51.1.3.0 and i got my FT just lying around here and want to use it.
So my question is, should i upgrade to the latest firmware and just use it or be patient until a root for my version is released because of the efuse stuff?
Is anyone working on a new root method atm?

I doubt anyone is working on rooting newer firmware, cause they already have their firmware rooted so I doubt they have interest in rooting the newer firmware. Not trying to speak for any devs that have worked on these devices, but that seems to be the way it goes, they have already accomplished their goal of rooting the device so if newer unrootable firmware gets released its not really a problem for them. I am predicting right now that unless a new firmware with major updates gets released that requires you to have stock firmware to update then no newer firmwares will ever get root. I could be wrong, but I doubt it so its really up to you.

I have no doubt somebody is working on it. These are self-challenged, self-motivated people. And Amazon threw down the gauntlet.
As to Raptor's first question, you have it. Why not use it?
cant block updates on my router and dont want to update past the fuse update... -.-
I've gotten hold of an Amazon Fire TV that was already rooted, but has a very old Stock Rom on it.
It currently has software version: 51.1.0.1_
The newer versions of the the custom ROMS state don't install unless you have had version 51.1.4.0 and you just can't skip to it.
Can I install version 51.1.4.0_514006420? without any issues since my stock FW appears to be old. It doesn't list any pre-requisites on the page so I assume that it safe, but just want to make sure. Then after I install that firmware I should be able to load the latest, correct?
Does anyone have a link to a tutorial to updating the rooted firmware before the BOOT Menu requirement, or is the procedure essentially still the same?
Thanks for the advice!

Read, read and re-read before you start installing anything or you will be regretting it .

Honestly as nice and sweet as the amazon fire is.. I don't think it is a "long term" solution for cheap android to home setups.. because as long as it remained locked like that (and we can't work around it) it's not a long-term solution.. (just cause you could root your device doesn't mean that it won't break.. and your root is gone )I've been following the development of phone hardware for hdtv's for a long time.. (stupid SMARTtv's suck what a waste of hardware!) the reason why I bought amazon fire is because all the other products out there.. (and there's plenty!)
Many have had over-heating issues.. and that's one thing that makes amazon's nice.. nice remote, no over-heating! (low price) So I wouldn't bank on it being around.. if people want stock android.. and I would have preferred that as well..
And now intel is selling a windows 8.1 stick with a additional usb port for storage.. hdmi version.. it's pricey at $150.. but maybe when it's $50.. it'll be worth it?
So I do think we should see lots more refinements on this technology.. and amazon's the only one who delivered a full usable product with decent spec's.. though I hear roku is much more "stable" in the apps department.. and now finally making one that has more then 512 mb ram..
Hi,
I plan to buy a Fire TV 2 to replace my current Android box.
I've seen posts about possible patched that have blocked root access/side loading.
Any truth in this yet? If I go get one today, is it likely to be rootable?
Thanks.
The latest version 5.0.3.1 is still rootable. We don't know yet if the next release, which has no indication of if or when it will be released, will block it.
No it's not been patched in England, successfully got root this afternoon
Make sure you order the proper USB cable ahead of time if you don't have it yet.
Good to know. Have 5 incoming from the states, hopefully I can update to 5.0.3.1 and root before it gets blocked.

You don't need to update, that's the current shipped firmware.
Excellent, I thought they were shipping with 5.0.3.0.
