[Q] ROM Compatibility for a Unique Situation - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys!
So I've had my G3 for 4 months now and I love it. I want to start flashing some new ROMs on it but I have a few questions.
I own a Verizon LG, so the VS985. However, I use it in Canada on FIdo (Rogers) Network.
Now my question is, what ROMs are safe for me to flash outside of the VS985 base ROMs?
The reason I ask is because I noticed one of the main reasons VZW users don't flash D855 ROMs is because of the connectivity issues with the CDMA radio.
So I guess my question is, if I've got no use for the CDMA radio anyway, is it safe for me to flash international ROMs on a VS985? I'm hoping someone experienced with developing on these devices can answer this (i.e what's the difference when a ROM is made specifically for VS985, like how Cloudy uploads patches specifically for the CDMA versions for VZW and Sprint).
Thanks guys!

Bump anyone ??

Unlocked T999 Rom/Carrier Question

I have an unlocked T-Mobile S3 and I am ready activate it on Straight Talk which I believe uses ATTs network. My question is concerning custom roms; can anyone confirm that using roms specifically for the T-Mobile version will or will not cause issues if i use a different carrier?
Thanks

I was a bit confused because there are several threads/devs trying to make sure users know to flash the right rom for their phone version. I also know that the ATT & T-Mobile versions are identical, besides the ATT version supporting ATT's LTE frequency and TM's supporting their HSPA+ frequency, and since I bought this phone off contract w/o warranty I want to make sure don't end up with a $600 paperweight.
Thanks for your confirmation!
Wait... Just some that we're on the same page, I read that as if you took a T-Mo phone, with a custom ROM, unlocked it, and used the phone on another GSM carrier, would there be problems - the answer is no.
If you take a T-Mo phone and use another carrier's ROM that's not compatible with T-Mo's phone - yes you will have problems.

[Q] T-Mo Galaxy S3 LTE confusion

Hi Guys, I've got some questions I'm hoping I can have addressed. I purchased a Galaxy S3 LTE (SGH-T999L) from T-Mobile awhile ago & i'm happy with the device. I am aware that the original model, SGH-T999 didn't come with LTE, however my confusion lies in that I've heard that with the 4.1.2 update, the T999 now supports LTE, but I've heard people say it doesn't.
My concern is that I am interested in rooting & installing a custom rom on my S3 LTE. I've seen some roms state that they support my model #, but in one rom I watched a review/install video for it & in the video, that specific rom only listed the SGH-T999 model, the non-lte variant.
I'm pretty confident in the knowledge that if I flashed a T999 rom, it would work on my device, however I'm uncertain on if I would lose the LTE functionality.
Thank you guys for sharing your wisdom
I don't think so

I don't think you would as it's a hardwear difference between the T999 and the T999L. As long as you have the LTE APN it should work, although the ROM may not show you have an LTE connection. You will have the speed but the ROM will just register it as 4G or HSPA+. But I'm not completely sure. I would make a nandroid to go back to just in case, and then see if you can get LTE speeds on your rom.
All of your questions have already been addressed in the T999L thread. Link in sig.

[Q] Which variant of G3 should I buy on T-Mobile

Before you reply sarcastically and imply that I should obviously buy the T-Mobile variant, I was curious because the international G3 seems to have double the amount of ROMs than the T-Mobile (D851). Correct me if I am wrong with this assumption. Only problem is that people tell me that the international variant doesn't support the same bands as T-Mobile LTE has. Is this still true, or does the international G3 now work on T-Mobile's LTE network? My end goal is to have a good amount of ROMs and best T-Mobile LTE support, so is there a way to flash international G3 ROMs on the T-Mobile variant by reflashing the bootloader and radio or would that still lead to a brick? Thanks for reading

I have the T-Mobile D851 G3 and before LP came out for the international models, I was able to flash their stock KK Roms with no problems. I ran version 1.2 of Cloudy Rom for quite awhile and that was a great Rom and very stable. I didn't have to flash any kind of bootloaders or anything to run the Rom.
It is true that development for the D851 is kind of slow compared to the international ones but there are still great developers for us. Skydragon is a great modified stock Rom and we do have some choices for some AOSP LP Roms too that are updated pretty regularly. I've ran a few of them and they run great. But I'm a stock kind of guy so I always revert back to Skydragon.
I have the D855 32GB using T-MOBILE . And no LTE only H+ getting around 4 Mpbs to 14.4 Mbps. I'm on their MVNO Ultra Mobile pre-paid limited data plan so its ok for me. Love the D855 cos its unlocked and already on CloudyG3 LOLLIPOP. Only paid $19 a month unlimited talk, text and International talk certain countries. But 100 MB data. Well if i need more data i just top up $5 for 500MB. I always on WiFi anyway.

Oh, did you flash the Cloudy ROM that was made for the international D855 or made for the T-Mobile D851?

Hmm, since I'm in an area where it is easy to get LTE, I would prefer a model that ensures LTE. But thanks for your input!

This is the version of Cloudy that I used that is still KK since we can't use a stock LP Rom on our phones yet. This one was for 850/851/855/LS990/VS985

[Q] VS985 with T-Mobile SIM. What roms can I use?

So, I've been trying to figure out what Roms I could use for my Verizon Unlocked variant. It's been hell pretty much because of the infamous Call Forwarding bug. Can I use a D850 Rom or something like that? I had a T-Mobile Note 2 before this and it used to support the International version and was wondering if it applies for this phone also. Any help would be appreciated.

T-Mobile and H815 HD Voice/WiFi calling?

Hi everyone! I've decided that the G4 is the right phone for me. After using the G3 for 8 months and bouncing back between the Huawei Ascend Mate 7 and the Nexus 6 for the past few months, I've come to the conclusion that 5.5" screen size is perfect for my use and hand size - but I have a few questions before biting the bullet and ordering one.
I'll be switching over to T-Mobile for use here in the states from AT&T. Since I travel quite a bit to Europe, the H815 will cover the frequencies/bands I need to connect to data networks over there. My question is this - will the H815 version that's available to pre order support things like HD voice and WiFi calling? Or is this something that T-Mobile has to implement on to their phones and as a result, I must purchase their version of the phone? The HD voice isn't as important as the WiFi calling, I feel as if that is something worth purchasing the T-Mobile version for.
Cheers!
I believe you need the T-mo version for wifi calling. That's something they integrate into their version of the OS.

Wrightperspective is correct. The H815 has no native Wifi calling ability.

I see you're using the H811 model - that's the T-Mobile specific version, no?
And since I'll need the T-Mobile version, I now need to consider the LTE bands/frequencies of the T-Mobile version to ensure I'll have data whenever I travel to Europe.
Edit: I suppose some more food for thought could go towards ROM's and what not. Is it fair to assume that the H815 model will receive more support from devs since it's the international version and what not? I honestly think I'm okay with no WiFi calling if it means getting an unlocked bootloader quicker/more ROM support from the lovely XDA community.

It is always hard to predict what model will get dev support before it happens. Sometimes a phone with a world version will still get more support on one of the individual carrier versions. As for the frequencies, I did a brief compare based on the published information for the 810, 811, 815 over here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60992462&postcount=30
