Hello fellow Canadian GSIII owners: please see below and note which forum you should be looking in for ROMs for your devices:
AT&T forum: SGH-I747 (AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus and SaskTel)
T-Mobile forum: SGH-T999 (T-Mobile, Wind, Mobilicity and Videotron)
Sprint forum: SPH-L710 (Sprint only)
Verizon forum: SGH-I535 (Verizon only)
Developers, please put carrier support in the title of your threads. Thank you!

Hello XDA,
Can we please get an android development forum for Rogers, Bell, Telus and Wind? Rogers/Bell/Telus phones are SGH-I747M and the Wind version is the SGH-T999, but they all have different basebands and stock ROMs. Trying to put Canadian threads in AT&T and Sprint forums will result in a big mess.
Alternatively, instead of separating by carrier, separate by model number. Keep all the I747 development threads in one forum and T999 threads in another. Then people can put the carrier into the title of the post.
Just something to think about.

I agree. But AFAIK, the Wind/Mobilicity/Videotron S3 is the same as T-Mobile's, not Sprint's.

and the Rogers is the same as AT&T's
historically Rogers and AT&T have been interchangeable in almost every aspect on all the devices they shared. Rogers uses the exact same frequencies as AT&T, and the devices are the same aside from some minor differences in bloat, lte toggle, and native wifi tether
What about the Telus, does that fall under at&t also?

AT&T, Rogers, Bell and Telus have the same phone, the SGH-I747. But just because it's the same hardware does not mean it's the same software. It may or may not have different basebands and certainly has different carrier customizations. As Pirateghost mentioned, AT&T removes some features in its ROM (software), the most important being, at least for me, the ability to tether. So if you flash a rooted AT&T ROM on your Canadian device, it will most likely work but you will lose features(!) That's why we need to be very clear about what carrier each ROM is for. Furthermore, if you flash the wrong baseband (i.e. flash a Rogers baseband on a Bell phone), your phone may not work as a phone or it may connect to the wrong network and you will be charged roaming fees. At the moment, I can see that AT&T has a different baseband version from Bell, but Rogers and Bell seem to have the same baseband version. Are they interchangeable? I have no idea. Anyway, it's better not to mix these things up. That's why separate forums are a great idea.
As a SaskTel customer coming from the international i9000, these forums are very confusing and not very organized. I would definitely support more organization.
I guarantee that you won't roam on the other carrier if you flash the wrong baseband (Telus/Bell/Rogers). They don't have roaming agreements in place to allow that. That's why you won't get service with Rogers in some areas where Bell does have service.

That is how it was with the i9000. If I flashed the wrong baseband (for example, a US modem that did not support 850 band), I would just have no reception when I left the city.
Sasktel, Bell, Rogers, Telus all have the AT&T version with tethering left in.

OK. Either way, flashing the wrong baseband is a bad idea.

Except this time around, it seems that there is a slight difference between the two in terms of software, and enough so that I've read posts of people having issues when using at&t based stuff on their rogers phones.

I've been here before with the vivid, skyrocket, and the one x. You can ignore anything I say but I HAVE dealt with this stuff before.

So is it safe to say that you can flash the Stock Rom or Custom ROMs for T-Mobile T999 on Wind Mobile's T999V. And at most you lose Roaming and/or a few features?
I already see that there is one or two ROMs that are confirmed for multiple carriers.
A dedicated Canadian Forum is a great idea! There is so much information floating around out there with the multiple variations of the sgs3.

As a Rogers user (and relatively new to Android) it freaks the hell out of me to flash custom ROMs based on the AT&T version, because I'm sure I *will* lose tethering and the ability to turn off LTE.
That's the stupid thing - it'd be rather simple to have subforums dedicated to the canadian devices, because the software is different (not only the bloatware, but apparently some more stuff too) and the baseband is also different, which could lead to problems down the line, no?

If a rom is done the right way you won't lose any functionality. You can't honestly believe that at&t users don't want those features. I prefer to build all my roms from a rogers base for the simple reason that it is less work for that functionality.
PS. Any rom dev should know better than to force a modem/radio/baseband change on their users.

That might be true but if you check your firmware versions, they aren't the same as AT&T's.
Also, I have flashed most of the international radio's on my older I9100 and never had a problem in Canada or US when travelling. They may not be customized for that country but they do work.
I PMd one of the mods with a link to this thread. There seems to be interest in a forum for Canadian carriers, so let's see if we can make it happen.
By the way thanks to everyone chiming in with their two cents. I am not a developer, and although I've been around xda a while, it was always as a user. I''ve written a guide or two on how to root and flash devices, but it was always based on other people's work. So I am learning all this as I go along.
I come from the desire z/g2 forums. G2 is t mobile, The desire z is run on multiple networks globally. Baseband are set by the phone, not the radio (I think that is the same thing as a modern?). On my Desire z running on Rogers, I flashed T-Mobile radios and international radios which worked on Rogers no problem.
Features of a rom are determined by the dev, if you don't like something, flash something else or restore your nandroid backup. Read the op and ask the dev if you are unsure about any features on a Rom.
I would think the only models that should be separated in forums are the international version, totally different processor and maybe Verizon cdma. From a sheer volume of users standpoint, further division is warranted. You think this is bad, wait until Verizon and At&t widely launch, this current setup will be complete chaos.

Hey Y'all,
I've seen the other threads and I know that LTE works for AT&T but for the life of me, I cannot get it to select LTE
at all. I've tried the connections-->network mode menu and whenever I select LTE+WCDMA+GSM it always reverts
back to WCDMA+GSM the moment i back out of the menu. Also when using the *#2263# and I try and select it
via that way, I get bars but no data. Can anyone help me shed some light on this?
Is there another way to prioritize LTE? Do i need to flash a new kernel or modem?

Yea that's whats bugging me. I put the AT&T sim back into my GN II and it gets LTE easy. I'm still within the return period
I just dont know if I'm missing a step or if the phone is defective. But it gets T-Mobile LTE ( in what few places get it
where I'm at ). So I don't know

No I did not. I just did the unlock method that was posted here. So forgive the noob question, but I would have to flash
the AT&T radio to get LTE? Or is this just a troubleshooting method you want me to try? I just thought I wouldn't have
to flash the AT&T radio since it supported the bands Out-the-box.

Technically, you shouldn't have to. It supports 700 MHz LTE out of the box. The T-Mobile S4 is the "best" version because it supports both AT&T and T-Mobile bands out of the box. The AT&T S4 supports AT&T and T-Mobile LTE out of the box, but not T-Mobile HSPA+ (AWS) without a mod.

It's more along the lines of a troubleshooting method. I believe I read another thread exactly like yours and the solution was to flash att radio. Think of it like a regular am/fm radio. All the hardware is there, but without something to control what stations it can play, how's it gonna know what to play?

The network is decided by the SIM card (the entire purpose of GSM). With an AT&T SIM, he should still be able to pick up T-Mobile LTE (AWS LTE is what T-Mobile uses and it's supported in all AT&T devices). My AT&T Note 2 gets T-Mobile LTE, just like my T-Mobile Note 2 does.
Also you can't cross-flash modems because the partition sizes are different; ROMs may be compatible (that's the case with the Note 2) but not the modem. If you flash another device's modem, you'll lose your IMEI (until you flash back the correct one) and your device will bootloop with no signal. From experience.
IGNORE THE GUY TELLING YOU TO FLASH THE AT&T RADIO. YOU'LL BRICK YOUR PHONE.

I just remembered the reason. AT&T won't activate LTE on a non-AT&T phone (on their end on the computer) unless you lie to them and give them the IMEI of an AT&T device. 10000% sure. Fixed this for another guy with a T-Mobile Note 2 trying to use it on AT&T. I have one for you. You go on chat online and tell them you're not getting LTE. They ask you for an IMEI number of an AT&T LTE device (it doesn't have to be your S4's) and then they can activate LTE on their end. I happen to have an IMEI of an in-store HTC One on hand. I'll PM you.

Thanks for all the help guys. I already have the GN-II's imei listed on my account however and with the LTE feature code on my account thanks to my buddy who is a rep at the att store. I'm gonna meet him in a few minutes to get another sim card just to give this another shot before i do an exchange at t-mobile seeing as t-mobile is more anal about doing exchanges unless they can physically verify in store what you're *****ing about.

You dont need to be so rude first of all. Secondly I never told him to do anything, i simply asked if he flashed the radio and told him it was a troubleshooting method. Meaning, research it before you do it. Just like anything else.
Secondly, others have gotten LTE on their T-Mobile devices without talking to ATT. I already stated i was using the top of my head for diagnosing and never did i tell him to do anything. And since i was going off the top of my head, i remember being able to flash ATT radios to the S3 and S2 of T-Mobile. Also, he has a T-MOBILE DEVICE wanting ATT LTE on it, not the other way around as you are thinking.. Any how, we are two very smart people, we need not argue with one another and telling the op to ignore someone. Thats just flat out rude. Especially since i never said "go flash the ATT radio" i simply asked a question.

I'm sorry if I came off as rude to you; I was merely trying to tell him to not cross-flash S4 modems as it can brick the device; you have to be careful what you tell people to do if they're coming to you for help. It's not like with the S2. I correctly said he has a T-Mobile device and wants AT&T LTE on it, and as I said before, I've fixed the issue with someone who was in the same situation with a T-Mobile Galaxy Note 2. Like I stated, the phone itself is capable of 700 MHz LTE, which is what AT&T uses. You don't have to flash any modems. It should just work. The fix is above in the last paragraph.

Did you try changing APN configurations?
Update: I switched the phone, did the unlock process again and....it still refuses to select LTE. I dunno. At this point I'm at a loss and thinking that it might have something to do with the unlock process itself. I might just do one more exchange and pay for the unlock. Can someone who has AT&T LTE on their S 4 do me a favor and post their APN settings so I can compare just to be absolutely sure it's correct?
I have a T-Mobile s4 that I put my AT&T SIM card in out of my AT&T galaxy note 2 and lte works fine. My issue is, I have random losses of network signal then it just comes back moments later while using the T-Mobile s4 with my AT&T SIM card. I used the unlock method posted in the T-Mobile s4 thread, rooted and flashed the Jedi Rom from the T-Mobile s4 thread. Can anyone shed some light on this issue?

I have an AT&T M8 which I unlocked, rooted and s-off'd while under AT&T contract. I then decided to switch to T-Mobile and give this device to my 11-year old son. What I'd like to know/understand is whether I can flash some of the T-Mobile Roms I see in this forum on the AT&T M8 and it work with T-Mobile network? Or do I still need to flash the AT&T Roms?

SIM unlocked would allow you to use it on stock AT&T too if you choose to. Also everything seems to be interchangeable unless noted. I would go for Rom with T-Mobile's Wi-Fi calling, which is amazing btw for those who get sorry service.

You should be able to flash either T-mobile or AT&T (Even roms in the international section, I would recommend InsertCoin) roms without any issues. Eleven and has a M8? Damn, i'm jealous lol.

Somewhat related question... If I u were to use an AT&T model on T-Mobile, would everything work correctly, 3g/4g? Comparing the frequency bands online, the AT&T model is missing the 1700 band that the T-Mobile version has. Does that mean the phone doesn't have the hardware components to connect to it? Or is it capable of connecting, just that AT&T doesn't use that band? I'm asking because I want to pickup a used m8, but the T-Mobile version is going for around $100 more than all the other carrier's versions... Could I just SIM unlock an AT&T version and be set, or will some things not work?

That's a good question and hoping someone will have the answer. In the meantime I was able to SIM unlock my son's ATT M8 and install a TMobile SIM using stock ATT rom. So far everything has worked and the 4G symbol does appear in the task bar, although I'm not sure if that really means he's getting 4G. I did have to manually enter the APN settings so he could get mobile data when not connected to wifi.

Would you mind posting the apn settings that allowed your sons phone to work on 4g and send mms? Its the main reason I'm looking into flashing a Rom and would save me a lot of trouble as I have spent quite a bit of time searching for one that works on my phone and none seem to do the trick.
Ok so I need some advice. I was finally able to root my Galaxy S6 recently with Odin/CF-AutoRoot. Now i've got a few questions before I go any farther. The main reason I wanted to root my phone was in hopes to edit my APN's and get my data working. This galaxy is on Marshmallow, the Sprint/Boost Mobile model. I bought it off ebay, when i first got it I took it to AT&T to get service on it. They got my talk/text working but not data because there was no APN options under Settings/mobile networks/etc. That option was not there. I'm hoping if I flash a rom that will restore my missing APN options.
-I need someone to recommend me a rom. I'm looking for a stable rom, preferable debloated too. I just want the phone to function as it normally should and have the apn options back.
-Also, do I need to install a custom kernal too?
This is the forum for Sprint Galaxy S6. Did you buy the Sprint model or the AT&T model.
From what I understand, they are different.
Sprint is on CDMA network and AT&T is GSM, and the two are not compatible.

It sounds to me like you want to use the Sprint S6 on AT&Ts network. Should be possible. However, I believe it needs to be unlocked first in order to use the GSM bands. This may be one of the issues.
Secondly, I recommend doing everything yourself as there aren't many ROMs available for the Sprint S6, so tweaking everything is something you personally will have to do to make it work on AT&T.
Thirdly, why did you get a Sprint model if you wanted to use it on AT&T? I recommend talking to sprint to help you. Custom kernel has nothing to do with carriers, so using the one you have now will be fine.
IMHO: You should have done your research first. Honestly if you wanted to use it strictly for AT&T then you should have bought an AT&T variant, all your headaches and issues wouldn't exist lol. That being said, what you want is 100% feasible, but not by the average Joe. It requires some tinkering and know how and knowing how to navigate around the device.

This is the forum for Sprint Galaxy S6. Did you buy the Sprint model or the AT&T model.
From what I understand, they are different.
Sprint is on CDMA network and AT&T is GSM, and the two are not compatible.

Just an FYI: You are right, but you're not fully right. lol
Sprint and Verizon CDMA phones normally have GSM capabilities for overseas business travel. In order to unlock the GSM bands, you must get the device unlocked, or tell and pay sprint that you are using it overseas. International Unlocking allows for overseas use, Domestic unlocking allows for USA GSM Carrier use. My phone is International and Domestically unlocked thanks to a very kind and generous xda member.
However, a GSM phone will not work on CDMA networks, just cause they lack the hardware. There really isn't a niche for it so they don't make them.
Hello, I have been with Verizon the last few years and I'm in the market for a new phone. I see on SlickDeals that there is a deal for the Verizon Samsung S10/S10+, but after reading through some of the posts, it seems you can't root the Verizon S10/S10+.
Since I don't need the latest and greatest phone from Verizon, are there any 'older', new in-store models that can be rooted so that I can install a custom ROM, etc?

Your best bet is to get another phone that's not Verizon branded and just activate it on Verizon. You'd be going back a few years to get a Verizon phone that's rootable.
Thank you for this information... a couple of things getting another phone that is not Verizon branded:
- Previously, one would need to make sure they get a 'CDMA' (vs GSM) phone, but is there any technology, etc I need to look for when trying to find a non-Verizon phone?
- I assume if I get a 'non' branded Verizon phone, that some of the Verizon specific features may not work, e.g. WiFi calling, etc?

I can only answer the 2nd part of your question. Once you activate it on a Vzw sim you can flash Vzw firmware and get all the same features

Thanks for this... that makes sense. The only other things is regarding the Verizon frequency bands - I'm guessing some phones may not have or support all of the Verizon frequency bands.

I have the international unlocked model of the s10+ U1 version on Verizon and yes maybe one or two LTE bands aren't supported but i get 82Mbps down and 12Mbps up depending on location
