I currently have a Samsung but used to have an hd2. I was running a Sony Ericsson ROM on the hd2 and really liked the way it looked. My question is, to those who have a Sony phone, do you like it? Would you recommend it? Can you compare it to other phones?
I like my Samsung but I really like how Sony looks. I'm thinking of upgrading to the note 2 when it comes out for the screen size but depending on the replies I get here could make me change my mind. Thanks in advance!

If you want good specs but don't care about look and GUI, go for samsu phones.
But if you really want a classy GUI with very very few bugs..and a premium looking handset...Sony is the one.
I have used all the phones and after apple Sony makes best looking phones with premium quality GUI.
No offence to anyone..its my personal views.

Look at all the phones coming out. Pick one that you can use for a few years. I am waiting for the mi-two to come out that will be my next phone selling price is about 320$ usd. Most specs packed into phones these days serve no real purpose other than to boost spec sheets and marketing. Getting a phone too big can become an annoyance pretty fast some may learn to adapt others may not. Same goes for too small. The ION is almost a perfect size for me although it could be on the sightly larger size. I wish phone manufactures would stick with making phones with three levels entry , mid and high end once every 12 months. I think they should say **** you to the phone carriers and not bend over to their bull ****. Phones should be pentaband 3g at least. Holds up on resell value if you do not want it any more. People are still offering me 100-200$ for my old school x10 and that has only three bands att frequencies I don't sell it because it is not worth that in the condition it is in. Sony can really hold its value on phones that people think are flagships like xperia s,t for some reason the ION is the sony underdog which I fail to find that many differences between it and the t series.
My next phone will be one of these
Xiaomi M2
Huawei p1 (although already getting kinda old)
or other if something cools comes my way
If you buying in a contract your kinda ****ed no carriers ever get cool phones really except one or two but typically they are lower specs than international versions as in the samsung s3 case ect.. When shopping I find it important to get one that has a good size and good battery none of the sony phones have all that high of a battery capacity.
But remember every thing in android is an app and can be modded or customized. It is always fun to get a device that is some what popular here in xda. XDA brings life to dull phones. But even with our ION phones being some what overlooked we still get some CM9 and CM10 as well as miui. So we can still have our fun. Watch the forums of the phones you like and see how busy they are. When looking at slate of glass phones all that is really different is size and battery life. When looking at end phones really. Price comes into play for those buying inside a contract. But outside all sony phones cost the same price so it is kinda strange to pick a phone. Check out youtube as well and find some hands on videos if your buying a phone that you never saw before. GSM arena is a good place to compare specs.
Thanks for the replies, as far as size goes, I'm 6-7, the bigger the phone the better.
I always read up on a phone before I buy one. Problem is you can't always go by the reviews. When I got my hd2, all the reviews gave it awesome marks. When I got it, it pretty much sucked. Went through 3 warranty exchanges before I slapped android on it and made good.
Guess I just want to know more about what real world users thought about Sony phones in general.

The LT28 is my first Sony phone, but it won't be the last.....probably. If Sony phones continue with unlockable bootloaders in the US, then it's a good chance I'll look elsewhere at upgrade time. It all depends on what's available.
When I upgraded this last time, the only real options were the One X and the SG3, both looked and felt like kids toys to me. The Sony LT28 had the right price, the right specs and it's just a damned sexy phone.
What network do you plan on running with your new phone?
Tmobile only has 3g/hsdpa+ no 4g so if fast data is needed then att network is what you will want although their data plans suck at the moment. Tmobile is strange with their frequencies they can use 850 / 1700 / 1900 / 2100 depending on area and market. 850mhz is only used for roaming. When Tmobile starts their 4g network sometime in the next year or three they will use the 1700/2100mhz LTE channels.
ATT on the other hand will use 850/1900 mhz for 3g/hsdpa+ and for 4g they use 700mhz/1700/2100 for LTE .
ATT has a wider range but "lower" quality due to lower frequencies can travel further higher frequencies will yield better connections at the cost of range.
Knowing the frequency in which you plan to use you mobile phone on may help you choose the phone you want. It is one reason I picked the lt28h over the lt28i
I had an x10 for 2 years, the phones hardware quality, looks, and feel were great. The stock firmware lacked quality but development made it a very worth while phone. I now have the Ion, I think its awesome and honestly would not trade for a galaxy 3. The stock ics on the Ion looks amazing, but Im running miui as i was on my x10. The phone I wanted after the x10 was the Xperia Neo, but Ion was free and better.
Overall love how unique Sony phones are, but the mi-2 looks very promising despite no sd card expansion.

The 5" Odin will be released in the spring sometime unbranded. In fall they will have a new phone with AT&T that is supposed to be a carrier flagship but they haven't released anything on it.

One thing to keep in mind with sony phones more so than others is that they do not pack in all frequencies so you have to make sure you match with your carrier so that you can get full function of the network your planning on using with their phones. T-mobile in usa has been claiming that in 2013 when they finally get 4g that phones will not be required to be upgraded to work with their 4g/lte network. But I do not believe that. ATT uses 1700 and 2100 lte frequencies so I guess the sony V may work in 4g with att in some area's where 2100 is more prominent. So just make sure that what ever phone you pick you match it up to the network your going to use. Unless you do not care about 3/4g then you can pretty much use what ever phone you like.
I'm hoping whatever phone they release will be available through at&t. As much as I hate being locked into a contract, I'm going to pay the bill regardless. I don't have 600 dollars to drop on an unlocked phone. Though I really wish I did.

Might want to look into the cost of things. Even with att cheapest data plans with text messages your looking at 80$/mo that is 1920$ after two years not including the taxes. +36$ activation fee plus 99$ for phone. so total after two years ends up being 2055$ minus taxes. This only gives you 300mbytes of data a locked bootloader and a lock sim and restrictions on tethering.
Now lets look at simple mobile which rides on t-mobiles network.
12$ sim card fee 50$ a month unlimited everything + a few free international minutes. brings us to a total of 1212$ so 2055-1212=843$ that you get to spend on a phone This will get you the same service that t-mobile has with a killer deal. And you will get a phone that you a free to do with what you want not ****ty locked bootloaders and locked sims. Resale value of factory unlocked phones is much higher than branded phones that had the sim unlocked. Granted right now the t mobile network is only 3g/hsdpa+ but 2013 should see lte speeds. Might want to think about that. I get right now 10-15Mbit speeds on t mobile which is slower than lte but I use wifi at home so I am good with that speed when i am out and about. If you were to compare the saving with the highest data plan that att had then you would save even more monies.
I have thought about switching to a monthly pay as you go plan. I haven't sat down and done the full math yet but I have 5 phones on my account. The way my plan is set up, I'm not paying too much more than the 250 I would pay going the monthly route. But right now if I'm late I don't get shut off. So there's that which is good since I've been having forced layoffs at work probably for the foreseeable future.
Again I'm still looking into that option.
I do want to thank everyone for there ideas and suggestions. Its much appreciated!

Stupid dude, it depends on the processor and gpu, xperia z have the best on the market, xperias is also the most social phones ever made in history, with the best phone cameras too and musicplayback is top quality. Where can you ever find a phone with better sociality, performance and media than xperia? Xperia has also most extra functions than any other android, Sony is also best with development in case of stability and early beta releases

I am on my mobile, and haven't seen relevant threads as of yet. I'm sure they exist and if so, a link to them would suffice.
I currently am on AT&T using a Galaxy Note. I am going to be dropping my contract soon and switching to Ting for service. I am assuming this is the best Optimus place since ting runs on the sprint network.
The 3 phones I'm considering are the Note II, S3 and the Optimus G. I've heard great reviews about the Optimus and have never owned an LG phone which peaks my interest.
Do any of you have thoughts among those 3 choices? I've come to this place to more or less persuade me this direction and I figured no better place! But honest feedback would be appreciated.
I have no problems rooting and romming and enjoy doing so. General usage is primarily data and camera use of course. Talk and text is minimal. Not much gaming is done, but more productivity type stuff between my day job, photography business and schooling. I do enjoy high end hardware which is why this is on the list.
Any feedback or being pointed in the right direction would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
Get the optimusg!

I actually owned the S3 prior to owning the Optimus G and i can tell you Im pleased. Battery life right about the same if not better than my S3. Photo quality is good and the quad core processor really makes a difference in performance. Im happy with the Optimus G ad you will be too im sure.
I like the "wow factor" of the phone, if you can call it that. Everybody KNOWS the S3 and the Note II, so as a result I end up with a lot of people asking me what phone I have. It certainly doesn't hurt that the phone build looks and feels more premium than any Samsung device I have ever held. The performance is easily the best of any phone I personally have owned and LG is promising to support the phone. Samsung, IMO, does not do this well enough. It's fast, sexy and there is a reason that it was chosen as the basis for the Nexus 4.
And let's be real honest here, being able to call your phone The OG tops anything any other phone can offer.
I've owned both the GS3 and the Note 2 (look at my history) and I have to say this phone simply rocks over the two. The screen quality and the build quality simply blows alway anything currently available.
Im not sure if you're familiar with sprint phones but the only phone that comes close to the LG OG is the EVO lte. But even then the LG is better simply because of its processor and 2GB of rams.
Get this phone (especially if you have LTE in your area) it won't disappoint you.

Thanks for the comments so far everyone! I would wait, but I'm making the jump next month and need a device since I can't bring my at&t note over. I considered buying a cheaper phone to tide me over for a bit to see what else comes out and when, but I don't think I am patient enough to do that lol. So I figured I'd just buy a pretty recent phone with good hardware. I'm usually about 1 year behind the curve for brand new devices so the Optimus G fits right in line with my usual habits.
I haven't been on the Sprint network as of yet. I've been with at&t for a long time and through their cellular one, cingular and back to att type days. There is definitely not any LTE in my area from any provider. (Central Oregon Coast) but the basic coverage for 3g and such is pretty even across the carriers from my asking around of people who use them. Ting uses the sprint infrastructure and allows you to bring sprint devices over.
Am I mistaken in thinking the sprint OG does not have a microsd slot? I'll be picking up the 32gig version regardless and I don't use to much storage so that's not a deal breaker, but good to have in mind.
Sounds like this may jump to the top of my list at this point. Still have 3 weeks or so to decide.
Thanks everyone so far! If there's any other thoughts or quirks or comments, keep 'em coming if you want. Appreciate it.

good choice! the lgog unfortunately doesnt not have an sdcard slot unfortunately. as for the coverage, be careful. there has been discussion that this phone has worse signal than some of the other recent phones such as the galaxies. so just keep in mind that coverage may not be as good as others in your area.
I'm also considering the Optimus G. I have an S4 now. But I'm tired of being raped by AT&T, so I'm headed over to TMobile for the $30 plan, as I almost never use talk minutes.
I know I could take the S4 over to Tmobile, but I'm also tired of worrying about a $500 breakable non-waterproof device in my pants.
I can grab an Optimus from Amazon for $235, sell my i337 for about $400, pay my early termination fee and come out pretty much even while saving $70 a month... and having unlimited data.
Any thing I should consider before making this jump?
*edit
looks like LTE might be an issue.
LTE works fine for me, but I'm in a big city (Houston, TX), and I find the LGOG one of the more flexible phones, with its easy rooting and unlocking (FreeGee), and awesome sharp camera. Battery life is good... needs about one charge a day for me. For the Sprint version, it has 32 GB of internal, but no external. AT&T version, 16 GB of external, but expandable to 32 GB.
The amount of community development is amazing, and this phone can run some of the major roms with little or no problem, like Cyanogenmod and MIUI. You can even convert the phone to a Nexus 4, as it was based off this phone and manufactured by LG as well.

Any thoughts on the VerizonWireless LTE version of the G Pad that became available today?
It's available through Sunday for $100 with a two year contract, after that for $150 with contract or for $300 without contract. From what I have read so far it sounds like all they did was add LTE to the LG version. I haven't seen anything about a VW skin, bloatware, crippled features, etc.
I have an unboxed LG 510 sitting at home that I got from BB pricematched to Newegg for $280. I have another week to return it. This VW LTE version for $100 seems like a pretty nice deal if it really is the same as the 510 I have from BB except for the addition of LTE.
What do you think? Would you return the LG 510 and get a VW LTE version? Would you have any concerns about getting such an early version of the LTE?
Thanks!

If you want a Verizon LTE device, and you're ok with the contract terms, then I'd say go for it. You might want to see what the G Pad would go for on eBay.
This assumes you want/need LTE, of course. I hardly ever have a need to connect to 4G on my G Pad and when I do, I tether to my phone. Everybody's needs are different, though.
called my guy at tr store, put one aside for me for tommorow am purchase, sounds good for the 100 bucks, and 10.00 added to bill for data access, will report back in a day or so cant go wrong for this price,,lol,, see ya guys,,steve
Mine arrives tomorrow. Looking forward to it!
I got one today as a replacement for my "old" 2012 nexus 7, so far its a great device for the $($99+&50 for the bundle pkg), my only concern is that the LTE tends to lose connection occasionally even though my g2 is connected? Kinda weird but my WiFi is running anyway. Maybe an update on the way to correct this.
I'm buying one off contract at some point. I keep an LTE tab on my account because I can use the line for an upgrade for a phone....and yes there is a way to do it...shhh
This will be a hood replacement to my day 1 Xoom that I paid 700 for

clock speed
I am debating on getting one of these. One concern I have is the different clock speed of the processor. The wifi version is listed as a 1.7 quad-core, while the LTE version is listed as a 1.5 quad-core. Did they do this to save battery? Thoughts on if you think it will make a big difference?

It was pretty much a no-brainer for me. Already had Verizon FIOS Triple Play and Verizon Wireless Smart Phone. Added the Quantum Internet for $10 a month and the G Pad w/ data for $10 a month. Then got a $20 a month discount for having Verizon Wireless and FIOS Quantum Triple Play so, overall, I broke even on the service and got some nice upgrades.
Oh, and the G Pad is a pretty nifty little device! And at $99 nobody could argue the value. Will replace my 2012 Nexus 7. Hopefully root isn't too far off!
I picked up one of these from my local Verizon store yesterday. I'm seeing roms and root instructions for the device, but the threads do not state the methods work specifically for the Verizon version. Are we waiting for things to be ported over, or can we go ahead and root, then install a more AOSP rom?

There are close to zero threads about this subject but how do I go about rooting and flashing a new ROM to my phone? If you guys need more information or proof that it's indeed a Boost Mobile phone please don't hesitate
Here is the software information on my phone:
Android Ver: 4.4.2
Baseband is M8974A
Kernel is 3.4.0
Build is KOT49I. LS980ZVE
Software Ver: LS980ZVE
There are ZERO differences between the Boost and Sprint version.
Boost LG G2 LS980
The Boost LG G2 is the Sprint version repackaged as Boost. When you activate your phone, Boost updates the APN settings and installs its own bloatware to make it an official Boost phone. As far as rooting and flashing a different recovery, just search the multiple threads regarding this, they work.
I'm currently use CM12 latest nightly, it's the only rom/mod I have tried so far (works great.) The issue I ran into was getting the APN settings properly configured. I flashed an APN fix (developed by MopedRyder, junkie2100, etc.) for another phone and since been able to have a fully functioning phone using CM12 for boost. Supposedly it works for AOSP as well.
I'm not sure if this is a problem with other roms when flashed onto a boost lg g2, I can only assume it is.
There is a boost lg g2 thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-g2/help/boost-mobile-g2-t2989880
Hope that helps, good luck.

Considering the phone with boost in the average boost store is around 270+, that's still a pretty good deal for such a nice phone (i love the specs) this is the best phone I have ever owned. Plus having CM12 on there without all the google junk makes it just so damn smooth
I ended up on craigslist buying a Sprint LG G2 phone from a girl for $100. I haven't gotten around to taking it to an actual boost store yet. But, that BB deal is still on. I'm just curious how you guys are able to walk into BB and buy the phone without having to sign a contract when clearly the ad says in contract. I'm asking because BB is having a LG G4 sale for $100 and I'd like to get one of those for myself.

If the ad said $100 on-contract for a G2 and people have said they have bought it without a contract then it is an employee error or a misprint (I haven't seen that ad but a misprint seems unlikely).
I HIGHLY doubt you could walk out of Best Buy with a G4 *bought* for $100. You're probably looking at a discounted contract price or reduced installment-plan down payment.
I understand that, I even pointed it out on this board. But, loads of people said they went and purchased a G2 for $150 without a contract now I'm curious to see if I can do the same thing with Verizon.
