[Q] VerizonWireless LTE G Pad - G Pad 8.3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Any thoughts on the VerizonWireless LTE version of the G Pad that became available today?
It's available through Sunday for $100 with a two year contract, after that for $150 with contract or for $300 without contract. From what I have read so far it sounds like all they did was add LTE to the LG version. I haven't seen anything about a VW skin, bloatware, crippled features, etc.
I have an unboxed LG 510 sitting at home that I got from BB pricematched to Newegg for $280. I have another week to return it. This VW LTE version for $100 seems like a pretty nice deal if it really is the same as the 510 I have from BB except for the addition of LTE.
What do you think? Would you return the LG 510 and get a VW LTE version? Would you have any concerns about getting such an early version of the LTE?
Thanks!

If you want a Verizon LTE device, and you're ok with the contract terms, then I'd say go for it. You might want to see what the G Pad would go for on eBay.
This assumes you want/need LTE, of course. I hardly ever have a need to connect to 4G on my G Pad and when I do, I tether to my phone. Everybody's needs are different, though.

called my guy at tr store, put one aside for me for tommorow am purchase, sounds good for the 100 bucks, and 10.00 added to bill for data access, will report back in a day or so cant go wrong for this price,,lol,, see ya guys,,steve

Mine arrives tomorrow. Looking forward to it!

I got one today as a replacement for my "old" 2012 nexus 7, so far its a great device for the $($99+&50 for the bundle pkg), my only concern is that the LTE tends to lose connection occasionally even though my g2 is connected? Kinda weird but my WiFi is running anyway. Maybe an update on the way to correct this.

I'm buying one off contract at some point. I keep an LTE tab on my account because I can use the line for an upgrade for a phone....and yes there is a way to do it...shhh
This will be a hood replacement to my day 1 Xoom that I paid 700 for

clock speed
I am debating on getting one of these. One concern I have is the different clock speed of the processor. The wifi version is listed as a 1.7 quad-core, while the LTE version is listed as a 1.5 quad-core. Did they do this to save battery? Thoughts on if you think it will make a big difference?
Thanks,

can this be unlocked and rooted?????? if it is I am going to return my new nexus 7 and get this baby instead!

I had the 7 incher and I'm loving the size of this G Pad. Hopefully some wonderful devs can help us get root soon.
All verizon 4g lte devices are SIM unlocked.

Yeah hope so! I love mine. Normally the hardware of android tabs doesn't feel quite feel this nice. I love the feel of the brushed metal. Very nice.

Being sim unlocked can I use w at&t

It was pretty much a no-brainer for me. Already had Verizon FIOS Triple Play and Verizon Wireless Smart Phone. Added the Quantum Internet for $10 a month and the G Pad w/ data for $10 a month. Then got a $20 a month discount for having Verizon Wireless and FIOS Quantum Triple Play so, overall, I broke even on the service and got some nice upgrades.
Oh, and the G Pad is a pretty nifty little device! And at $99 nobody could argue the value. Will replace my 2012 Nexus 7. Hopefully root isn't too far off!

I picked up one of these from my local Verizon store yesterday. I'm seeing roms and root instructions for the device, but the threads do not state the methods work specifically for the Verizon version. Are we waiting for things to be ported over, or can we go ahead and root, then install a more AOSP rom?

I want to love this device, but it is really choppy in navigating around. I've disabled many stock apps to see if that helps, but I can't tell much difference. My score on benchmarking apps are actually lower than my year old note 2. Should I return this device, or will a custom rom help?

Can I use my Verizon phone sim with the tablet?
I would like to switch them back and forth if that is possible.... and use google voice.

Canadian nexus review

I got my nexus through bestbuy. Using ics is definitely way different than all the other revisions of android. I have been with Android since G1. These changes are definitely what Android needed. Although it can be slightly confusing for someone who is used to how it was.
The first nexus I got had one pixel that was stuck on and wouldn't go away despite using those pixel fixer apps in the market. So I had to exchange it.
If you are buying the nexus to use on any other networks than I would suggest that you buy with virgin mobile to avoid the $35 activation fee and use their month to month plan for $20/month . I bought it through best buy so I can use my best buy points and they are also offering double the points on your purchase so in total I got back another $30 using my Bb credit card.
Sorry if there is no structure to my review its more like my 3 day thoughts. I hope the tips help.

Just an FYI, but both Future Shop and Best Buy can sell a GN outright for use on any network, as long as you can find the right rep.
I just bought my Galaxy Nexus yesterday, from Virgin Mobile. Got the last one the store had in stock. After a lot of debate, I decided to go for the 3 year contract with Virgin to get the lower price, as I don't mind buying out of it later if I have any problems with them. Virgin/Bell definitely has the best network (speeds and coverage) in my area, so going with them was an upgrade for me over Rogers, and Virgin had a plan I liked a bit better than Bell. No activation fee was nice too, and the people in the store were very friendly and helpful. Also, Virgin's web site and emails seem targeted at younger audiences, so it's fun for me to feel a bit younger again
I'm having a good experience so far. As soon as I got home I unlocked the bootloader, rooted the stock firmware, and installed ClockworkMod recovery. ICS is different, for sure, but I got used to it pretty quickly and I'm liking it very much. Today was my first full day with the phone and I started on a full battery. I'm now 10 hours on battery, with 69% left. That includes texting throughout the day, some web browsing and personal/work email, and one phone call. I'm very pleased with the Galaxy Nexus so far.
The only thing is, when I wake the phone, it says "VIRGIN" on the screen. I'm not sure if it's proclaiming to be a virgin, or calling me one

[Q] What's your next phone?

So, I am currently in the market for a new phone because I am sick of how HTC treats their customers. I was wondering if you guys thought jumping on the Galaxy Nexus would still be a good idea even though the Sg3 is out.
The Sg3 looks amazing, but it is kind of out of my price range with the average price being $400. I have found a few Nexus' anywhere from $200-250 which is more my style. The thing that worries me though is that it is already close to a year old and I know the minute I purchase one the next greatest phone will be out.
Does anyone know when the next Nexus phone will be out? I am due for an upgrade around March, but would really like to jump to a 4g phone before then.
What do you guys think? Stay with the inc2, grab a Nexus, or just wait until I can get something with my upgrade?
Any ideas?
I've had an upgrade since July I was going to get the sg3 but when I found out it was dual core it turned me off BC I was stoked for quad. Then I was going to get the inc4g, but I hate sense and I'm tired of HTC. I was close to getting the gnex on Saturday for $50 from best buy, but like you said its already a year old plus the 5mp camera is kinda iffy for me especially since the og Inc had an 8mp back in 2010! I'm going to wait for the galaxy note 2 coming out soon 1.6 quad core 2gigs ram super HD amoled running JB
I was considering a SG3 as well, or the GNEX, but I am currently satisfied with the Inc2 at the moment and will way my options when I am ready for a new device. I am curious if anyone has tested out any of these phones and had any opinions as well. I have not "upgraded" since they got away from unlimited data, so I am still grandfathered in and not sure if I will sign a new contract or just purchase the phone. The 4g is not a big issue with me as Big Red has not brought it to our area yet, and probably wont see it anytime soon.
Maybe I will wait for the Note 2 as well. My friend has the SG3 and the screen on it is beautiful. The one thing about the Note which I am unsure about is the stylus. I don't know how I feel about that. It's not like that is a big deal breaker for me, just something I'm unsure about. I have had 4g in my area since it has been released, for the most part, so I def want to go 4g. I am worried I will lose my unlimited, which is why I was starting to look for 4g now.
Samsung does make a great looking phone though. Colors are so vibrant on them. When the Note 2 comes out, is it supposed to be better than SG3 or is that phone still going to be considered the best?

It's not HTC's fault. They already gave the OTA to vzw a while ago. It's big red's fault for not releasing the goddamn update already because they need to bloat the **** out of it before they can be satisfied.

The stylus to me is just an accessory. You can function the phone without it. If I use my upgrade I will lose unlimited, but I'm only using 1.3 gigs a month. Not to mention my $200 phone bill and 2 unused phone lines. So upgrading will cancel unlimited data but I'll be saving $100+ dollars a month with my military discount. There's no real reason to use 4gig+ of data so I wouldn't worry about losing unlimited. Unlimited data users probably are getting throttled anyway. The note 2 is going to be a supercharged s3. Check out the specs on both http://www.autoomobile.com/news/samsung-galaxy-note-2-vs-s3-4/1003595/
My only problem is whether to stay on Verizon or not. The Verizon version of the note2 is going to have the Verizon brand on the home button! I can't believe that. I'm super satisfied with my inc2 only BC I rooted. But the lack of ota is troubling. This phone isn't that old

Do you know of a way to check the actual data usage without calling up Verizon? I also just did watch a few videos of the Note 2 being used and all I can say is WOW. This phone looks like it is going to be a pure beast. Also, you are right about the stylus being an accessory. After watching this video with it in use, I think I completely changed my opinion on it.
This is the video I just watched:

I only have 2 options for cellular service, Verizon or Cell One because I live in a small town. I have been with Verizon since probably 2004, switching from Sprint when I lived in Atlanta GA. I have never had an issue with them as far as service quality, prices are a bit high but I will pay for them as long as I have good service. As for the Inc 2 I will probably use it for another year or so before I consider switching, unless something happens to it before then. I have only been using mine for about 3 months or so and paid $75 for it from an acquaintance of mine that upgraded to the RazrMaxx.

I am from New Jersey love the service I get from Verizon. I have yet to go someplace that doesn't give me great service (unless I'm in a basement with no windows or something similar). As for other services, I have just about everything you can find in my area and from having friends I pretty much see everyone leave all other to come to Verizon. AT&T is the only one that can compete with Verizon in my area, but the only people I know that have that service is the Iphone users. For $75 you can't go wrong with this phone. It is def a great phone and aside from the lack of updates and no 4g that is my only complaint.
Nitsua, you say Big Red has the OTA and I have heard that before also, but how true is it? Is Verizon keeping the OTA secret because they are bloating it up or do they actually not have it? We may never know the truth until it is either released or they come out and say that the OTA will not be coming. Of course, I hope it comes, but I feel myself slowly getting sick and tired of the wait, especially since they promised up end of Aug. and now we are a week from October.
Yes, They have been late on phones before, but from my research, this is the longest they have gone after missing a date which really angers me towards both HTC and Verizon.

Verizon has it. How else would you guys have your ics leak . They have to perfect it though and make sure that there are no bugs. Also since it's an older device that not many people have, they are setting their focus on other phones.

I'm not too bothered by not getting the ICS OTA honestly. There are plenty of ICS ROMs that are functional enough for me to use. I'll just stick it out until I can upgrade in July, 2013 and either upgrade or switch carriers. Who knows what phones will be out by then?

Play store has a VZW app for usage.
I have a droid bionic just sittin here. I may use that, but with that remote phone wipe hack I may just forget about it.The hack doesn't seem to affect the INC2.
my upgrade isn't till may. Depending on the inc4g, i will purchase it if its s-off. Otherwise, I think i'll be getting the SGSIII. My next phone has to be unlocked someway.
I'm really diggin the xperia phones. And it looks like most of them are getting ics in the next couple weeks. The ion is free on the us sony site.
Depends what's out by August 2013

[Q] No nexus 4, now what?

Hey guys, mainly asking for your opinions so just let them fly.
I currently have a Thunderbolt and my contract is up at the end of November now I am trying to decide what to do next. I was fully anticipating going with the nexus 4 (I was prepared to never buy a non nexus device as long as Google keeps making them). Now that the nexus 4 will not be on Verizon and switching to at&t isn't an option since I get 25% off my bill through work, what would you guys do if you were in my situation? The Gnex is going to be cheap as hell when am eligible for an upgrade and am still considering it, should I be? Do you think Gnex development will slow down dramatically any time soon? I'd also hate to buy a phone with outdated hardware...do you guys run into hardware limitations withe the Gnex?
The only other phone that intrigues me is the galaxy s3. Mainly because it is so popular that I see there being a huge development opportunity there? I looked through the thread for the GS3 and it looks like there plenty of aosp roms and it looks to me like there will be quick updates for it as well. The biggest things I hate about the GS3 are the hardware buttons, I love the customisable soft keys in aosp and think that hard keys are so pointless anymore.
I'm pretty much against moto but if you really think I should look at something they have to offer, let me know.
Any thoughts and opinions are appreciated, thanks in advance.

My advice? Wait and watch. See how the N4 actually pans out as a device itself. It could be a hardware flop for all we know at this point. There were certainly fun hardware issues with the Gnex.
Then wait a bit longer for the HTC DNA. It might turn out to be a barnburner, or something to burn the barn with.
Then make a decision.
I'm not sure if the Moto RAZR i or HD is a good option or not for you.
Its up on you dude. go out & explore something new and one more thing that the GS3 is a pretty good option.

I would wait if I where u. If u really need a new phone I would say the galaxy as 3 is a good choice. I have the gnex with Verizon and I love it. I dont have no issues at all my signal is always good i dont drop any calls or never go into 3g lol. (Must be my area i live in) Only problem I see u having is the storage capacity. The gnex on Verizon is now offered with only 16GB. No more 32GB. But as stated before, wait it out a few more months and see what's around the corner. If anything get a used nexus from craigslist for like 250 bucks to hold u over. That way up don't waist your upgrade on a phone u might regret

25% off of Verizon's prices is still more expensive then Straight Talk or T-Mobile prepaid.... why not get a Nexus 4 anyway and stop signing contracts?

The answer for most people? Coverage.
Coverage, Coverage, Coverage.
If you have a Thunderbolt, that means you still have unlimited data right? So if you're planning on buying a Nexus anyway, you might as well just find an unlocked one (i've seen used ones for ~$150-250) so that you won't have to upgrade. If I remember correctly (and I might be wrong), but Verizon only takes away the unlimited data when you try to upgrade.
No offense, but then he'd be stuck with T-Mobile's network and current lack of LTE. I root for T-Mobile; however, I was miserable when I was using them in suburban Denver, due to relatively inconsistent/slow data.

You can use AT&T's towers via Straight Talk if T-Mobile isn't great for your area. AT&T's HSPA+ network is pretty expansive.
Also, he wouldn't be "stuck" with anything - he could take the SIM card out and flush it down the toilet if the service bothers him. That's the beauty of not having a contract
I had the gnex on Verizon and loved it, except for one crucial issue-battery life. Sure, this was remedied somewhat by getting spare batteries, but this got to be a pain in the ass.
I currently have the Verizon SIII and love it (I find the dev community to be more than adequate). Yet I agree that it is worth waiting for the inevitable next greatest thing. The DNA does look to be badass

Yeah the main reason why I stay with Verizon is coverage and my discount. At&t is the only other viable option, all the others are spotty at best around where I live.
Yeah I never thought of trying to get a gnex off contract. That would probly be the best option seeing that I'm getting married in June and will most likely have to revamp my plan for me and the wife anyway.
My friend just got the s3, he doesn't root or anything like I do but I can still bug him about the battery life at least.

I honestly want to wait it out for MWC and HTC's 2013 lineup.

I'm not real big on the next best thing, the S3 would be in that category for me. Do you stick with touchwiz ROMs or aosp (or aokp)?
I have a sour taste in my mouth for HTC and I'm sick of waiting. I thought I waited for the next best thing with the Tbolt when I was coming from the OG droid. Samsung at least gets it right with their flagship devices. They don't come out with almost an identical phone but with more bugs worked out 3 months later.
I'll wait till Christmas and see what all comes but that's as long as I'll wait.

Straight talk offers an AT&T SIM that gives you unlimited* everything for $45/mo. I think it's actually their most popular plan.
*2-5gb of data before they start to nag, depending on how the stars align for you. Since, you know, unlimited is never actually unlimited in the US anymore...
If you are only with verizon because of the discount, try calling up another phone company and see if they can match the offer or sweeten the pot for you. My brother gets a corporate discount with Bell (here in Canada) and so he called up Rogers (who he's with), and told them that he can get such and such plan for such and such price and asked if he can match it otherwise he'd switch. I forget the specifics of what he got but he was able to get a discount because of it.
Otherwise, just wait like many others said. Perhaps you can get a sweeter phone than the nexus.

don't be annoying like that
To OP: I'm in a similar situation actually, except that I use a GNex right now instead of a TurdBolt. Nobody knows if a Nexus 4 will come to VZN, but I'd probably just buy a GNex until something better rolls around later. And if you do have unlimited data, DO NOT UPGRADE! I cannot fathom losing my unlimited data at this point of my spoiled-data-consumption life. And the development for the VZN GNex is pretty healthy actually. Nothing to complain about, especially when you know you have a reliable connection at the end of the day.
I'm in agreement there, I dumped my tbolt for a gnex and it was a huge step up. You can grab one for fairly cheap off contract now too. I have little to complain about besides battery being a moderate problem. It still beats the tbolt for battery life by quite a bit though, and has given me better data reception. My main urge to upgrade is called 'upgraditis'. For now I'll be trying to treat the symptoms.

Bought it......Sold it. $475 For those still on the fence re N7100 vs SGHi717 .

I should have listened to my instincts and went of the N7100. I really wanted to like the ATT version. I got the device. immediately rooted it and flashed the CleanLite Rom. There were a couple things I missed too much and the additional $30 a month was not worth it since we do not have LTE and if we did the speeds are really only realized when downloading ir uploading huge files. Regular browsing is still website dependent,
However the phone is always seeking LTE. No way to turn it off. Having been on Mediat Net UL data was nice but I never used more than 700mb and that was when I was steaming TuneIn radio just to try it out. (I was listening to the same shows we have locally.at different times) I am a talk radio junkie. I love all the gad fests, from Kim Komand to Rush Limbaugh. I am plugged in all day at work.
I need the FM Radio and I did not want to pay $15 more a month for it and have to get a 3GB plan. Not to mention the battery use for radio is far less than streaming wifi or carrier data. So I called ATT and Provisioned my International Note 1 for Smartphone data ( I had to convince them I had a smart phone because you cannot have two dumb phones on a family share plan and the wife International SGS II i9100 shows up as a dumb phone to get the Family Shared 1GB plan. Now we have messaging as well which we did not have and unlimited calling which we did not have. and I will buy an N7100 when the prices drop below $600. Funny all these years I was under the radar. they "discovered " my Note a a smart phone and I always had to call to switch it back to MediNet. Now I had to convince them it was a smart phone...Funny how things work.
The international development is very much further as well. although a few "ported" ROMs are showing up on this side of things.
Love the form factor of the Note 2 and it was very fast. The additional processing and RAM were clearly noticeable.
S Pen much better. Notification LED nice. There is a reason to upgrade for sure. In my case the N7100 is the better choice.Warranties mean little to me since I root the devices out of the box,
I posted this for those who are on the fence and may have similar needs.
Thanks for the post, man. I'm fighting myself over whether I want to go grab a Note II today (been thinking about it non-stop all weekend). Heck, I was cussing when I saw your post in the MP and I missed out! I'd have bought it in a heartbeat (and saved a couple of hundred $$$ in the process).
I've already got the AT&T GSIII, so I'm not sure how much of an upgrade the Note II would be for me. I mean, I KNOW it would be an upgrade in some areas, but I'm just trying to figure out if it warrants the $$$ (and the money isn't a problem for me...I'm just debating myself as I always do on large purchases). I'd be buying off-contract (as I did with the SIII), so it's not a small amount of money.
I usually get my phones, the off-contract ones at least, from Best Buy because of their generous 30-day return window and their price matching. I guess I could always grab a Note II and give it a go for a couple of weeks. Then I'll know for sure whether it's a worthy upgrade or not and if not, I can always return it without a restocking fee.
Glad to see you got things figured out. Sorry I missed out on buying your Note II, but glad to see you got it sold quickly! :good:

We have pretty good LTE coverage here...and I do use it..and I also had my time with 3 of the G3's...when they worked that is..
Looking at things objectively...is the Note 2 a upgrade worthy enough to leave the G3...IMHO...you bet it is especially if you like big screens...and can use the S-pen...
If those 2 things aren't enough to sway you...then maybe you should wait for the G 4 to come out...I would never go back to a G3 after using this one...to me it's leaps and bounds above them and custom roms will come...hell the sys dump for the ATT version just happened on the 6th of this month...so...IMHO...go get one and use it for a while...at least you will have a time with it to see what all the hubbub is about... and since they are still in short supply in many places...I don't think you will have any issue selling it if you don't like it..
Mac
I don't regret leaving my gs3 one bit. You either want a bigger screen or you don't and the internals are certainly a bump up. Getting the note 2 was a little intimidating now I don't think I could go back to the gs3.
about att and international note 2 choices, basically the question is: LTE & warranty or lots more custom rom
I choose att version only because i like LTE. and i am sure the att version will have its asop, cm 10/11, miui, and some kernel.

The problem with ASOP with the Notes is the S pen apps don't always work as they are Samsung apps and Samsung has been hoarding their drivers as well. The FM Radio did not work in Cyanogen. Needed a $10 app to make it work Spirit UL I think it was. I like the Samsung stuff well enough and eliminate the Social apps so I stick with the Stock Samsung ROMS. Especially since I am not a flashaholic and prefer to stick with a good ROM that only gets updated when there are major updates.
OP;us I am running 4..1.2 now and the ATT Note was a step back as far as Multiview etc went. Roms will be coming but like with the Captivate most of the good stuff will be ported from the N7100 developers
I dont get it. You bought it and sold it. So you save 30 a month? Did you buy it out right or sign contract. Contract arent you IN contract so you pay anyway? Full price?

I bought it for $239 an signed a contract for two years I have been with ATT since Wireless began. I don;t plan on changing Carriers. We have had two upgrades for the past four years. I burned one to try the ATT version. Since I rooted it I don't feel right bringing it back and sold it instead made a few dollars toward the N7100 With the sale iof My Note either way it was going to cost me $300 to buy the N7100. Now it will be "free" or at most $100 more. I will use my wife's upgrade next year.
I buy her used International phones. She loves the SGS II i9100 and will be using that until it fails. Then I will find her a well used international SIII to keep her on the $30 non smartphone plan.
We pay $115 a month for two phones with UL everything except for the 1GB data Same as we were paying for two mediaNEt UL data phones with no messaging and 700 minutes. I don;t use a lot of carrier data with the FM radio especially.
Disregard me please. Im totally lost even more now. Att has a 1gb plan? I didnt know

For me, its an easy choice. LTE. I live about 30 miles from AT&T headquarters, so LTE speed is amazing. As far as custom rom's go. I create my own stuff, so that does not concern me the slightest.
CM will come. Ive already setup the device tree, I just need to figure out the RIL stuff and defconfig in the kernel, to enable to qualcomm modem.

Yeah they have a family share plan with UL talk and messaging with 1 GB data shared. One smart phone and one dumb phone would be $115 a month. They charge $40 plus $30 for the "dumb" phone and $45 for the smart phone. If my wife were to get an ATT smart phone the bill would go up nearly $200 a year. $15 more a month Still sharing 1GB. Not worth it. I would go back to MediNet and two "dumb" phones. We have a couple old dumb phones we stick the SIM cards in when calling ATT. Except now I have declared a smart phone to get UL talk and messaging.
With 4GB shared the bill would be $15 more Her phone would Still be $30 the plan would go to $70 and my phone would drop to $40 Basically I would get 3GB more for another $25 a month. I would rather pay the extra $15 for 2GB if i should use over 1GB. Without LTE there is no way I would be using 2GB.
LTE is great. but for basic web browsing 4G is fine. Downloading huge ROM files would be nice at home with 30MPS LOL I would use the Carrier before the cable internet. But I don;t want to become dependent on high carrier speeds. Its like the carriers are drug dealers. they get you hooked then you pay pay pay.....

this is the best news i heard today

Considering buying an Optimus G

I am on my mobile, and haven't seen relevant threads as of yet. I'm sure they exist and if so, a link to them would suffice.
I currently am on AT&T using a Galaxy Note. I am going to be dropping my contract soon and switching to Ting for service. I am assuming this is the best Optimus place since ting runs on the sprint network.
The 3 phones I'm considering are the Note II, S3 and the Optimus G. I've heard great reviews about the Optimus and have never owned an LG phone which peaks my interest.
Do any of you have thoughts among those 3 choices? I've come to this place to more or less persuade me this direction and I figured no better place! But honest feedback would be appreciated.
I have no problems rooting and romming and enjoy doing so. General usage is primarily data and camera use of course. Talk and text is minimal. Not much gaming is done, but more productivity type stuff between my day job, photography business and schooling. I do enjoy high end hardware which is why this is on the list.
Any feedback or being pointed in the right direction would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
Get the optimusg!

I actually owned the S3 prior to owning the Optimus G and i can tell you Im pleased. Battery life right about the same if not better than my S3. Photo quality is good and the quad core processor really makes a difference in performance. Im happy with the Optimus G ad you will be too im sure.
I like the "wow factor" of the phone, if you can call it that. Everybody KNOWS the S3 and the Note II, so as a result I end up with a lot of people asking me what phone I have. It certainly doesn't hurt that the phone build looks and feels more premium than any Samsung device I have ever held. The performance is easily the best of any phone I personally have owned and LG is promising to support the phone. Samsung, IMO, does not do this well enough. It's fast, sexy and there is a reason that it was chosen as the basis for the Nexus 4.
And let's be real honest here, being able to call your phone The OG tops anything any other phone can offer.
I've owned both the GS3 and the Note 2 (look at my history) and I have to say this phone simply rocks over the two. The screen quality and the build quality simply blows alway anything currently available.
Im not sure if you're familiar with sprint phones but the only phone that comes close to the LG OG is the EVO lte. But even then the LG is better simply because of its processor and 2GB of rams.
Get this phone (especially if you have LTE in your area) it won't disappoint you.

Thanks for the comments so far everyone! I would wait, but I'm making the jump next month and need a device since I can't bring my at&t note over. I considered buying a cheaper phone to tide me over for a bit to see what else comes out and when, but I don't think I am patient enough to do that lol. So I figured I'd just buy a pretty recent phone with good hardware. I'm usually about 1 year behind the curve for brand new devices so the Optimus G fits right in line with my usual habits.
I haven't been on the Sprint network as of yet. I've been with at&t for a long time and through their cellular one, cingular and back to att type days. There is definitely not any LTE in my area from any provider. (Central Oregon Coast) but the basic coverage for 3g and such is pretty even across the carriers from my asking around of people who use them. Ting uses the sprint infrastructure and allows you to bring sprint devices over.
Am I mistaken in thinking the sprint OG does not have a microsd slot? I'll be picking up the 32gig version regardless and I don't use to much storage so that's not a deal breaker, but good to have in mind.
Sounds like this may jump to the top of my list at this point. Still have 3 weeks or so to decide.
Thanks everyone so far! If there's any other thoughts or quirks or comments, keep 'em coming if you want. Appreciate it.
You won't regret it I promise. LGOG is the way to go.

good choice! the lgog unfortunately doesnt not have an sdcard slot unfortunately. as for the coverage, be careful. there has been discussion that this phone has worse signal than some of the other recent phones such as the galaxies. so just keep in mind that coverage may not be as good as others in your area.
I'm also considering the Optimus G. I have an S4 now. But I'm tired of being raped by AT&T, so I'm headed over to TMobile for the $30 plan, as I almost never use talk minutes.
I know I could take the S4 over to Tmobile, but I'm also tired of worrying about a $500 breakable non-waterproof device in my pants.
I can grab an Optimus from Amazon for $235, sell my i337 for about $400, pay my early termination fee and come out pretty much even while saving $70 a month... and having unlimited data.
Any thing I should consider before making this jump?
*edit
looks like LTE might be an issue.
LTE works fine for me, but I'm in a big city (Houston, TX), and I find the LGOG one of the more flexible phones, with its easy rooting and unlocking (FreeGee), and awesome sharp camera. Battery life is good... needs about one charge a day for me. For the Sprint version, it has 32 GB of internal, but no external. AT&T version, 16 GB of external, but expandable to 32 GB.
The amount of community development is amazing, and this phone can run some of the major roms with little or no problem, like Cyanogenmod and MIUI. You can even convert the phone to a Nexus 4, as it was based off this phone and manufactured by LG as well.
