[Q] IPv4 not working in AOSP roms - T-Mobile LG G3

Im wondering why in aosp, why the apn setting using ipv4 T-Mobile US LTE......kills my data connection but T-Mobile US LTE IPv6 works.
Anything i can do on my end?
Kernel, rom related?

I'm not sure why this works (especially seeing both names resolve to the same two IP addresses) but I've found I can always get the IPv4 APN to work if I go in and edit the APN to fast.tmobile.com from fast.t-mobile.com.
Tethering still gives me problems when IPv6 is available so I am glad changing the APN destination works, even if I still can't explain it.

Weird....that did work. I'm actually getting faster download speeds under ipv4 compared to ipv6 lol

Here's another question, why can't I send or receive MMS on AOSP while on Wifi??

Visual Voicemail only with LTE APN, not Phone

Don't have LTE, so I created an APN for phone, gives me faster speeds with ATT and lets me use Onlive (blocked using the original APN). Noticed however visual voicemail only works with the LTE APN. any way to add it to my custom one?
Don't have a response to your question but I'm curious how you got the new APN to stick? On mine when I created another APN but it just keeps on defaulting to the "pta" APN.
My understanding visual voice mail is exclusively for LTE network. In fact, if you switch to LTE plan and go back to regular plan, you might endup with disabled voice mail.

I have no problem adding new APN and use it...
I wasn't aware there was a separate LTE plan?
That is strange. I wonder why I cannot set up an additional APN to connect to. Whenever it's selected, I can watch it get switched back after a few seconds...
Yeah, basically it's the same plan just has LTE in it's name.
If you have SQLite Edit (or something similar), you could try alter the APN manually.

I had the same issue with the phone APN not sticking. I followed the instructions from a thread in the Skyrocket forum about throttling that said to use phone for the APN name, internet for the APN type and leave everything else blank or default. How I ended up solving it was using the MMSC, MMS proxy, MMS port, and APN type entries from the pta APN and using them in the phone APN and after that phone APN would stick.
Also, I too am unable to get Visual Voicemail on the phone APN.
Thanks! I can't believe I didnt think about trying that. I just created the phone APN with the same settings as PTA and it works. I'm back on regular HSPA+ speeds since I'm not in an LTE area. For what its worth, visual voicemail works just fine for me.
Evening-
I too had some issues with the VVM not working and couldn't figure out why...even tried to use YouMail with no luck and finally logged into my account and reset the password for my V-Mail. I then re-set up the stock ATT VVM, deleted the forwarding YouMail installs and everything worked like a charm again.
I too setup the alternative APN (not in the LTE Market) and it stuck just fine...maybe try resetting the password/pin and see if that works. Good luck!

turning off lte

i know there isnt a toggle for turning of lte on the at&t variant but i thought there was some work arounds to this. can someone please post the steps to do this?
There's fairly simple instruction for this not only on xda, but on multiple other sites as well. Have you heard of Google?
In short - change APN settings.

actually theres a better way, if you're on CM10 or AOKP dial *#*#4636#*#* and choose WCDMA only or WCDMA Preferred. This will prevent the phone from trying to use LTE as its default network.

I thought that no matter what, for att users it always reverted back...
I tried going back to the wap.cingular apn but my phone would lose signal everynow and then..

It doesnt if you're on AOKP at least for my ATT it doesnt, if I set it to WCDMA preferred as it is by default I never see LTE, even with the PTA APN selected, and I know LTE is active in my area because on stock and CM10 I default to it and get upwards of 30-40 Mbps
See here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1826409
Theres also a way if you have root to create the new APN and have it stick (reason it doesnt stick is because PTA is set as default and because you cant change it reverts back to PTA). I'll give the steps I took to allow me to edit my PTA APN. again remember you need root. (also sqlite)
1. Using root explorer (or similar) navigate to /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony>databases>nwk_info.db
2. Tap on Carriers
3. Select line for AT&T PTA 310/410 scroll all the way to the right and under editable put a 1
4. Do the same for ATT Entitlement
5. Go to the PTA APN Menu>Settings>More Settings>Mobile Network> Access Point Names
6. In the PTA APN delete the values in the "APN type" field (this will prevent the phone from defaulting back to this APN)
7. Create new APN

Only down side to this is that the phone will periodically drop ALL signal but then gains it back withing 15-20 seconds. I'm also still looking for a way to enable the "Network operators" selection through root explorer (I imagine it to be in a similar place as the APN settings). Any help from someone more knowledgeable than me is appreciated. Hope this helps. Also below is a link to where I posted working USSD (MMI) codes that I found. Maybe something can be discovered in those.

Troubles with mms

I dunno if this is better placed here or in general, but I was wondering if anyone knows of an app that can tell me the status of a handshake between phone and tower.
I want to log the phone to see what is missing in the apn settings so I can fix it, make sense?
If not an app, maybe someone can explain to me the kernel or system rom and how it logs this because its gotta somehow.
I guess what I'm getting at is, is anyone else having issues with mms since they moves to 4.0.4 or is it just something I'm missing. I call tech support and they are worthless, I know more than they do about the products they claim to support lol sad really.
Anyways the network I use is Viaero Wireless.
My mms apn is as follows:
APN: MMS
MMSC: http://mms.viaero.com
Mmsc proxy: -IP address given-
Apn type: mms
Its a 3g network that had 2g speeds, apparently we will be getting 4g soon non lte.. but 4g 5mb hopefully!

[Q] Telus Galaxy Note 2 SGH-i317M - Network Issue

Hello, I have had my Note 2 for a month now. I have rooted my note several times as well as installed a few ROMS.
Initially I had this ROM installed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2016575. it worked great except the network ran extremely slow. I went back to stock until today. I installed this ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1987023. I screwed around with the ROM installing it a few times as I had issues with the ROM. I eventually went back to stock, now my network no longer works. I have re flashed stock ROM several times now to no avail. I am hoping someone can help me fix this issue, bare in mind I have only had it a month and I am still fairly noobish when it comes to android. Thank you.

I now have data, with your line: "APN TYPE DUN." I don't have that option, only Internet + MMS, Internet, and MMS. I've tried all the options and the first two work while the 3rd doesn't.
If you use a international rom use APN TYPE DUN if not use Internet + mms.
I'm using jedi which is really tmh perfect no issues.

still not working

I I used the telus settings provided, still i cannot send mms (pictures). Please help, thanks
This is bumping an old thread, but I have this exact same problem. I am running ProBam 4.5.0 (a CM based rom) and quite simply, I cannot receive MMS. I can send them just fine. Nothing I do in the APN settings makes a difference, and I have tried EVERYTHING. There are a LOT of Google results for APN glitchery, a lot of answers, and some devices ignore spaces and others don't. Anyway, I have also tried flashing the other Canadian Note 2 modems, after backing mine up of course. The Rogers modem from a month ago or so (I317MVLUCMK5) forced the APN to the 'Telus SP Tether' APN but although the phone, wifi, and SMS worked in both directions, MMS failed both ways. This is very sad, again changing the APN names didn't help at all there either - and sad because across the board I had much better reception. I am in a patchy cell net (With '4G' in the form of H+ but no LTE) and it wasn't my imagination - I could spray paint marks on the highway where the shadows lie, and I was seeing multiple bars through all sorts of fuzzy spots. Come on Telus...
Anyway, in desperation I am going to wipe out my entire phone and try another rom altogether, but I don't expect it to fix the MMS problem. The modem stuff isn't changed or touched by most roms, the roms themselves may react in a different way to the modem/APN needs (like for example Telus sometimes needing different names for what it perceives as an 'semi-unlocked international phone') but you should be able to FIX that problem in settings. And oh boy, I promise you I tried every conceivable combination of APN names. I even tried DEFAULT,SUPL,HIPRI,DUN,INTERNET+MMS at one point... lol
If anyone sees this and knows the answer, please... There were people reporting that unchecking 'retrieve messages automatically' in the SMS app settings cured issues, there were people that only got things to work editing the build prop to force various results to the antenna queries, etc, etc, etc. 3rd party SMS/MMS apps likewise don't work. The person sending me an MMS doesn't get an error, either, which means I went MONTHS without knowing I had this issue. Yup.
I know better than to phone Telus. Jeepers, that would be a long and fruitless phone call....

[Q] IPV4 APN Setting

I have a T-Mobile G3 and I am unable to set my APN (a copy since the built-in one is not editable) to IPV4. If I do that, the phone does not connect to the mobile data network. Looking at the logs, I get this error:
D/MobileDataStateTracker(28614): default: Received state=DISCONNECTED, old=CONNECTING, reason=apnFailed
Setting IPV6 or IPV4/IPV6 will quickly connect.
I also found some references to 6to4 when connecting to the network. I didn't copy them, but I'll dig through to find them and update.
On other versions, can you use your APN with IPV4 only? If my theory is correct, the T-Mobile version being IPV6 only is breaking international roaming, which is a pretty big deal (most of the internet, let alone other operators, is not IPV6 enabled yet).
If anyone with a handset that isn't T-Mobile test this, it would be appreciated. Really need my international roaming and nobody is sure of the cause yet.

I'm having ipv4 issues and roaming issues as well. I called tmobile twice about it and they won't help me unless I'm in a foreign country having the data issue or after my data resets because I'm maxed on roaming data allowance
