Visual Voicemail only with LTE APN, not Phone - LG Nitro HD

Don't have LTE, so I created an APN for phone, gives me faster speeds with ATT and lets me use Onlive (blocked using the original APN). Noticed however visual voicemail only works with the LTE APN. any way to add it to my custom one?

Don't have a response to your question but I'm curious how you got the new APN to stick? On mine when I created another APN but it just keeps on defaulting to the "pta" APN.

My understanding visual voice mail is exclusively for LTE network. In fact, if you switch to LTE plan and go back to regular plan, you might endup with disabled voice mail.

I have no problem adding new APN and use it...

I wasn't aware there was a separate LTE plan?
That is strange. I wonder why I cannot set up an additional APN to connect to. Whenever it's selected, I can watch it get switched back after a few seconds...

Yeah, basically it's the same plan just has LTE in it's name.
If you have SQLite Edit (or something similar), you could try alter the APN manually.

I had the same issue with the phone APN not sticking. I followed the instructions from a thread in the Skyrocket forum about throttling that said to use phone for the APN name, internet for the APN type and leave everything else blank or default. How I ended up solving it was using the MMSC, MMS proxy, MMS port, and APN type entries from the pta APN and using them in the phone APN and after that phone APN would stick.
Also, I too am unable to get Visual Voicemail on the phone APN.

Thanks! I can't believe I didnt think about trying that. I just created the phone APN with the same settings as PTA and it works. I'm back on regular HSPA+ speeds since I'm not in an LTE area. For what its worth, visual voicemail works just fine for me.

Evening-
I too had some issues with the VVM not working and couldn't figure out why...even tried to use YouMail with no luck and finally logged into my account and reset the password for my V-Mail. I then re-set up the stock ATT VVM, deleted the forwarding YouMail installs and everything worked like a charm again.
I too setup the alternative APN (not in the LTE Market) and it stuck just fine...maybe try resetting the password/pin and see if that works. Good luck!

[Q] Phone won't roam-settings are missing

Hello everyone,
I have a new AT&T plan with five lines, all using Samsung Galaxy S3s, all having the same problem. My 14 day grace period to cancel is almost up and I'm at my wits end searching for an answer. The phones are not rooted as I do not understand most of this technology; however I'm smart enough to know that this is a problem beyond rebooting the phone or resetting the SIM card, as every forum out there is telling people to do. Calling tech support (please don't make me) is a LAST resort for any device I own.
In the town where I work and shop I have no signal at all from AT&T. No voice, text, or data. AT&T coverage map shows "good" coverage in this town. Every so often I do get a weak AT&T signal but only for a few seconds. I do however pick up a very strong signal from a T-Mobile tower. I know that AT&T and T-Mobile both use GSM and should be compatible for roaming purposes, but the phone does not roam; it just shows a strong signal that I cannot connect to. Also, it switches back and forth between these two towers. I posted screen shots taken one minute apart.
In my phone's "Mobile Networks" settings there is no option to chose a network. There are only four options on that page: Mobile Data (checked), Data Roaming (not checked), APN, and Network Operators. I have tried adding a new APN but that did not work. The Network Operators tab says "Default Setup" and I cannot change it. I understand this is an issue with AT&T - they deliberately remove these settings.
I have gone through all the settings in Service Mode using *#197328640# looking for a way to enable the missing settings. I have already used the Service Mode to disable LTE (another setting AT&T likes to deprive us of) but that was not the problem so I put that back on automatic. I have also checked and unchecked every imaginable combo of settings such as wifi, data, airplane mode, etc.
I think the problem is either that the T-Mobile tower is interfering with what *should* be a good AT&T signal, or that the fact that I am "connected" to AT&T (albeit with no bars) is preventing me from roaming. I'd like to know if there is a way to disconnect from AT&T to test that theory. Also, I'd like to know if there is something I can do from Service Mode to enable the missing settings so I can set up roaming.
Thanks so much for any suggestions or help.

Just the default one called "ATT Phone".
I tried a Cingular APN in order to get a better connection to the AT&T tower, but it didn't work and I removed it. I found the T-Mobile APN info and was planning to try that next time I'm in town if I don't find some other solution first.
Is it the wap.cingular or pta one? You have to reboot after changing apn's but I'm sure you already knew that

I used the wap.cingular one and did reboot. Do you think this is an APN issue? I'm kind of at a dead end unless I find where to enable those mobile network settings. Thanks for your responses.

If you do not have the pta apn, try and add it. That's the LTE network.
Name: ATT PTA
APN: pta
MMSC: http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
MMS Proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net
MMS port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Auth: none
APN type: default,mms,supl,hipri
Add this in, select it and reboot
I have added it and will get to town tonight to see if it works. I'll post an update afterward. Thank you!

Unfortunately, it didn't work. I also tried to use a T-Mobile one and the phone wouldn't even let me save it.
I broke down and called AT&T tech support to find out where the roaming settings are in the phone... of course they didn't tell me, but they did tell me they don't have a roaming partnership with T-Mobile in my area. Therefore I'm out of luck and will be cancelling my contract.

Sorry buddy. Best of luck. Use your s3 on a carrier's no-contract plan. Perhaps t mobile or straight talk? Cheers

Simple Talk APN settings...mms problems

So I just left tmobile this morning and ported my number to straight talk (using an At&T micro sim card). I am having issues getting mms to work. I tried the APN settings from straight talks website but nothing worked (no data, no mms). I searched a bunch of forums and found an APN setting that gets me data, but no mms. Anyone else have the Tmobile Samsung Galaxy S3 (non LTE) that switched to Straight Talk At&t sim card and have everything working?
Thanks in advance.
Is your Data Connection working ? Ask Straighttalk for their correct APN Settings. They do control MMS.

I have data working using apn wap.tracfone
On simply talks website the apn settings don't work, no data or mms
Wap is a very ancient APN. Please call customer Service for correct settings.

I need your S4 data T-Mobile settings

I have a Sprint L720 Galaxy S4 that I am currently using with Metro PCS/T-Mobile. I have the correct APN settings, I can make and receive calls just fine. I can send texts and MMS just fine and receive texts as well. I can not receive MMS messages or texts with picture attachments.
I looked in the ##DATA# menu or ##3282# menu as I have my MSL number. If anybody here has used the L720 or nearly any fairly new Android with T-Mobile/MetroPCS can you please give me your working settings from the data menu?
I looked through the entire data menu and it is filled with Sprint.com this and sprint/mms/server that etc. I tried changing the most obvious things to T-Mobile's settings, but I know I am missing the crucial settings to allow me to send and receive texts with photo attachments. I tried the METROPCS fix here in the forums for the L720, but the files give errors when installing. I am certain that manually entering the settings from someone else's phone will work. There are a lot of settings in the ##DATA# menu, but it would take maybe five minutes to copy them down.
I would really appreciate it if anyone could give me their working info. T-Mobile said they simply do not have time to look those up as the data menu is too specific. The phones in the stores are not rooted not do they have the dialer app installed to get me to the data menu.
Thank you very much.
Sprint L720 (not T)
Android 4.4.2
MetroPCS/T-Mobile provider
All you need are a few settings. Name the connection T-Mobile
Under APN input fast.tmobile.com
MMC 310
MNC 260
Everything else should be automatically filled in. Just input those settings and you're now able to connect to T-Mobiles LTE data.

I sincerely appreciate your response but I have since learned that the Sprint motherboard simply can not use all of the T-Mobile frequencies for LTE data. I was getting H+ which was not bad but I was hoping for more than the board was capable of.

[Q] mms working with Cricket?

I've followed most of this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-phone/help/guide-fire-phone-fireos-google-apps-t3206603) along with updating to 4.6.6, to set up my fire phone, and almost everything is working. I've activated the phone with a Cricket sim, and I can get internet and sms fine. I still can't get mms to send or receive. I've tried several different APN settings from the Cricket website and others. I've tried using the stock messaging app as well as handcent.
Is anyone else using Cricket with their fire phone and able to send/rec mms? If so, what are your APN settings?
My wife's fire phone is working with Cricket, including MMS. I think Cricket takes up to 24 hours to re-reoute SMS/MMS correctly. Maybe give it a day and see if it fixes itself.

So it does work. That's good news. Turns out my wife's BLU phone doesn't work either. It's been over a week since she switched. Would you mind looking at the APN settings and telling me if they match these (taken from https://www.cricketwireless.com/sup...e-byod/customer/bring-your-own-android.html):
Name: Internet
APN: ndo
Proxy: Not Set
Port: Not Set
Username: Not Set
Password: Not Set
Server: Not Set
MMSC: http://mmsc.aiowireless.net
MMS Proxy: proxy.aiowireless.net
MMS Port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 150
Authentication type: Not Set APN type: default, mms, fota, hipri, supl
Thanks
I would have to wait until tonight to check her phone, but my Nexus 5 is working with those APN settings.
Well, it turns out the fire phone is set to use the AT&T APN. The Cricket APN is there on the phone, but the AT&T one is selected. And everything is working fine on her phone.
Here is a thread from howardforums that describes this same situation.

Also, I neglected to mention that I use Google Voice, so all my SMS/MMS gets routed as data. Which is why I thought the Cricket APN worked for my Nexus 5.

Yeah, thanks. I've tried all the settings on that thread. No joy. Maybe it's something wrong with my account since all four phones have the same problem
After u create APN are you setting the apn, I believe u click save and select, I missed that the first time around

Thank you more times than I could ever say! I have a carrier unlocked LG H830 (G5), and have spent more hours than I'd like to admit trying to get outgoing MMS to work on Cricket Wireless. You name it, I've tried it. I would never EVER have thought to change the Network Mode. That fixed it. Granted, instead of showing "LTE", it's now showing 4G (3.5G), and my data speed down is about 5MB, but Cricket throttles the down speeds anyway. And, at home on Wifi, it doesn't matter anyway. So again, thank you!
For the purposes of future Google searchers:
For outgoing MMS to work on a carrier unlocked LG H830 (LG G5), the Network Mode must be set to GSM/WCDMA.

LG-D851 No mobile data after usb tethering

I have a T-Mobile branded LG G3 on T-Mobile's network. I was using usb tethering while testing a mother board about a week ago, and after disconnecting my mobile data connection wouldn't work. I got it working after a couple of days by partially putting in a dummy apn setting. When I say a dummy apn, I mean that I only gave an APN name, and "fast.t" for the APN, not even the full address. When switching to this apn, my lte connection immediately popped up and things seemed fine. But after a few days I realized that I'm unable to send mms messages. Text messages have worked, but no mms. I've tried entering the complete apn settings, and now I have no data connection at all. I've tried resetting network connections, and that didn't help either. When resetting, I have the default T-Mobile LTE apn, and another EDGE MMS apn, but the EDGE MMS apn has no way to select it. It's just there, and neither allow modifications. I'm running 6.0 stock, rooted, and TWRP recovery. I've made no system modifications beyond root and recovery. Anyone know of some suggestions? I haven't come across any apn issues resembling my specific issue from other users.
