So I installed the unlock bootloader app called EZUnlock that was on the PlayStore and when I powered off my phone and tried to turn it back on it wouldn't boot. Not even to bootloader. Its just off and blank screen. When I plug it into the computer all I get is a driver with a weird name on it and Odin doesn't recognize it. Any ideas on how I can fix it guys? Thanks!!

Can you get into download mode?
http://www.android.gs/download-mode-galaxy-s3/
If you can, then you should be able to fix it. Once you're in download mode, Odin should recognize it. From there you can flash the proper firmware.
If you can't get into download mode, you can buy a usb jig from ebay that forces the phone into download mode. That has saved my ass many times.
Nope. Doesn't even go into Download mode. Alright thanks mate. I'll give that a go and see if it works. Cheers!

Time to JTAG as the other person said.
I am unable to locate this app on the play store.... It looks like it was removed however were you rooted prior to attempting to use this app... If so a trick I found when my phone will not power up is to remove the battery and hold the power button for 1-2 minutes to clear the cache and DVM then reinsert the battery and attempt to power on to boot loader or recovery while holding the power button for at least 1-2 minutes...if this fails then you can attempt to use a USB jig or send it out for JTAG service.... Hope this helps
the att sghi747 comes with unlocked bootloader.

getting into recovery mode isn't hard -- you can use ADB tools and it's MUCH easier
the problem is getting into download mode -- I was told these are different ?
You can go into download mode with adb too or something similar, i'll try to find the link when i get to my desktop

Can those who have 3 button disable try wht the OP suggested ? I dont understand wht u 2 are talking about :S
Yes getting into recovery/download is easy w/o 3 button when u have a working firmware, its when u don't u end up a with a $600 brick. If what OP says is true, it should allow u 2 enter recovery/download even in a situation like the one previously described.
Wow - if this works it could really help a lot of folks out... anybody without 3-button recovery want to try this?

Tried the procedure described but no luck at all (at least with my phone). Thanks for the trick though.
I'm already sick and tired of having to cross my fingers every time I flash a firmware via ODIN, knowing that I only have one shot to get it right.
Assuming if this procedure works, will the phone be able to get into recovery mode the next time without connecting to Odin?
If it doesn't, the phone is still going to be a brick when it fails to boot.
anyone got link for Odin4?
i'm still using Odin3
I tried this also. Doesn´t work for me.
Seems rather pointless plugging it in to Odin if the computer cannot recognize the phone, if it could...then we wouldn´t have a problem to begin with.
OK I was trying to flash an unlocked kernal via ODIN last night, something went wrong and now phone is stuck on the phone--!--computer screen. I cannot get past this screen. vol+home+power doesn't do anything but loop to the same screen.
It shows ODIN MODE in red at the top of the screen, but ODIn won't recognize the phone, nor will Kies (not running at the same time). Computer makes USB connected/disconnected sound when I plug and unplug the phone.
I have tried One-Click Unbrick, did not recognize that phone was connected.

there''s currently nothing to flash this phone
it came out only 2 days ago
DEV are still working on finding root
so, the best suggestion is to take it back to the store and get it exchanged
or wait a few more days/weeks until a flashable release becomes available to fix the mistake
I know, I was hasty and now this. Even when there something available to flash, the device isn't being recognized by ODIN. Any troubleshooting help for this?
When I managed to get my Vibrant into that mode I could pull the battery, hold volume up, put the battery in, press and release power (still holding volume up) and it'd kick back into download mode everytime. Once in download mode I could plug the USB in and a running ODIN would see it pop up. If ODIN wasn't running and USB was already plugged in things wouldn't work right.
I haven't tried ODIN on the GS2 yet (I'll wait for a root ). I did find the vibrant nearly impossible to brick though... trust me I unexpectedly tried quite hard.
You might need the newest ODIN for GS2 support, and possibly newer drivers.

I'm a bit new to this, but a custom ROM shouldn't affect your recovery mode. Are you sure you are using the correct buttons and methods to boot recovery?
Might want to make a new thread instead of necroing something from when the phone was 2 days old.

You should try to uninstall then reinstall driver, and try another usb port. In my experience, Odin seems to be picky, it only recognizes your phone if you plug it in the usb port that you used in the first time.

Recovery is accessed by holding both vol + and - while starting the phone. Hold them both while pressing the power button, then release the power button when it vibrates, keep holding the vol buttons till you see the recovery screen.

i tryed this but still odin does not recognize my phone. (no yellow box shows up)
Hi all,
I tried updating my galaxy s2 with ICS with Odin, but it failed. Now i get nothing but this message: "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again."
The problem is that neither Kies or Odin will recognize the phone. It will not go into download mode using the traditional method of holding volume down + power. My PC also does not detect the phone.
Is it dead?! I've tried reading, but no one seems to have absolutely no access to their phone. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
As always, uninstall kies then install it again. If you did flash stock ics and you have sd card, put siyah kernel ( as I think it is signed) and almost any rom there, put sd card to phone and try to boot into recovery ( power+home+ vol up) then install siyah, reboot and hold same keys and install the rom you downloaded
Sent from my sgs2 running cm9 using xda app
Mak: Thanks for the suggestions.
I uninstalled and then installed Kies. Neither Kies nor my PC detects the phone. I tried another computer and do not get detection there either.
I cannot get into recovery (volume up + power + home) or into download (vol down + pwr).
I do not have an SD card, unfortunately.
What else can I try?!
Then you need jig to get your phone working again.

hi
do you used intratech firmwares or from other sources?
so i realized that I tried to flash the wrong fw. my phone is the epic 4g touch for sprint. i tried to put ics on there.
how likely is it that the jig will work? i will order it if it is meant to address the problem i'm having. even with the jig putting my phone into download mode, how can i load anything if my computer will not recognize the phone?
i might have just bricked the phone. how likely is it that the sprint store will try to fix it for me?
Wrong forum. Ask here.
If they notice what you did to it, you'll be paying for it to be fixed. Maybe. You might also be lucky. Jig won't work, nand is borked. Return to service center or JTAG repair.
I think you're right. I'll try to get lucky at the sprint store tomorrow. If no luck, then on to a JTAG'er (any recommendations?).
The link you posted is for epic 4g, not epic 4g touch. I know, confusing. Probably why I'm having this issue to begin with.
Thanks again for the help!
Odia does jtag's and he seems to be pretty good at it
Sent from my sgs2 running cm9 using xda app
Yep Makrilli is right, Odia is a good choice. Or these guys. Haven't used them, but people on XDA have.
I got this message before, too. It happened when I plugged in to the bad cord I had. Odin recognized it until it was in the middle of flashing. Are you sure it won't go back to Odin? Mine did. I'm using it now. I don't think a jtag is what you need, unless you want to give them a really easy one? Good luck!
I had a similar issue, but kernel(rogue touch kernel) had a bad flash. It would play the boot animation and shut off. I couldn't get into CWM or download mode(they both did boot animation and shut off). I let it sit for two hours(at work and could only try on break). On my second break I repeatedly try download mode and after about 20 tries it opened up download mode. Good luck

Thanks for the suggestions on Jtag'ers.
Kill and Atticus: I tried repeatedly to put it into download or recovery mode. It just won't do it. And even if it did, my PC doesn't detect the phone at all. So it would be useless to have the phone in download or recovery modes anyways. The phone won't even charge while connect to the PC.
I haven't made my way out to Sprint yet, but will be doing so in a few hours. I'm betting they're going to send me home with my tail between my legs. I'll then check with Amazon to see if there's some kind of manufacturer's warranty I can take advantage of. Then, Jtag as a last resort.
If anyone has any suggestions, please share. Thanks!
OK. I talked with a Samsung technician (my phone is still in warranty) who said that the phone is acting up. He sent me a UPS label to ship it to Samsung for free repair or replacement. They said it'll take about a week. Hopefully they don't say it's my fault and refuse to repair it. Hope I get lucky.
I tried to root my sgs3 today and wasn't paying attention and used the wrong guide. I used the stuff for the non-us phones. Now when I turn my phone on, the only thing that shows up is "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again." I've tried using kies to reset it but I had never used it previously so it is unable to connect to the phone. It basically has 2 states now, off and the one described. is there any way to fix this?
Try flashing the stock firmware using Odin and then root your phone(with the correct guide this time )

Enter download mode by pressing the three keys power button+home key+volume down.
If it doesnt work enter recovery mode by pressing power button+ home key+volume up
And if both won't work you might have to use a usb jig

listen to what people are saying to you. go into download mode. Your phone turns on and it should be able to go into download mode now. I wouldn't mess with command prompt if i were you or your friend. Once your in download mode download the stock image for your carrier and the correct phone model and flash it through odin

Just to clear things up. When the device says "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again." It is putting itself into download mode and you should see the normal download mode text at the top of the screen to clarify "Product Name, Custom Binary, ETC". The previous posters are correct, you must flash via odin. Follow the guide here very carefully and it should be fixed.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426
Remember the recovery screen you are seeing IS download mode so pretend you already put the phone in download mode and follow it from there.
Best of luck!
Hey all...and to answer the number one question, yes I did do A TON of searches already to find a solution...PLEASE HELP if you have the knowledge
Phone Model: Galaxy S III (SPH-L710) Sprint 16gb
Firmware/ROM: All stock and never tried ANY customization
Problem: I think the problem happened when the phone auto updated to 4.3. Now when the phone tries to boot it just boots to the second Samsung "Samsung Galaxy S III" screen, reboots and then will get to the same screen and just sits there. One time I even let it sit there for 30 minutes just to see if it needed the ridiculous amount of time. When I try to get the phone into recovery mode (Volume UP/Home key/then the Power key) it will boot and on the first Samsung "Samsung" screen, in the top left corner in small print, it shows "booting recovery...". Then it will just go strait to the second Samsung screen then keeps rebooting twice before it will just stop on the second Samsung screen again. When I try to get the phone into ODIN mode (Volume DOWN/Home key/then the Power key) it will boot asking me if I'm sure and to press Volume UP to continue. Once I press Volume UP, to continue, I get to ODIN mode. In the top left corner it shows...
ODIN MODE
Product Name: SPH-710
Custom Binary Download: No
Current Binary: Samsung Official
System Status: Official
(all grayed out) Qualcomm Secureboot: ENABLE
Then in the middle of the screen is the little Android guy. Below that it shows, "Downloading..." "Do not turn off target!!". And it just sits there doing nothing else.
I'm pretty sure I have done everything I could possible do to get it working again. From what I understand there may be other things I can do. Worse case scenario, if I must, I would be willing to loose everything on the phone and start over from scratch, if that's even possible.
There has to be some VERY smart people on here that can help me. This is my wife's phone and we don't have an upgrade until May...PLEASE HELP. Thanks all!!!

I already downloaded latest versions of both. It states, from phone off and unplugged, start phone using ODIN/download route then immediately plug into PC then open ODIN and click the button....but I cant get that far because ODIN app on PC never recognizes the phone to be able to do so.
I'm now starting to get very discouraged because i'm seeing in some places that the device needs to be put into USB debugging mode. Please tell me this isn't true. Because there has never been any reason to put the phone into USB debug mode.
Can someone please confirm this. I'm really crossing my finger that there is a way to do this without needing to be in USB debug mode...PLS PLS PLS!!!

You have to plug the device in from download mode AFTER Odin is running. So, phone in download mode, start Odin, then plug in. Before you go that far are you letting go of the buttons when trying to get to recovery as soon as you seen 'recovery starting' in the top left corner or are you still holding them? If you do not let go the device will continue to attempt a normal boot. If you can get into recovery and do a factory restore it very well may solve your boot issue.
