OK I was trying to flash an unlocked kernal via ODIN last night, something went wrong and now phone is stuck on the phone--!--computer screen. I cannot get past this screen. vol+home+power doesn't do anything but loop to the same screen.
It shows ODIN MODE in red at the top of the screen, but ODIn won't recognize the phone, nor will Kies (not running at the same time). Computer makes USB connected/disconnected sound when I plug and unplug the phone.
I have tried One-Click Unbrick, did not recognize that phone was connected.
Help!!
which model of Galaxy S2 do you have?

there''s currently nothing to flash this phone
it came out only 2 days ago
DEV are still working on finding root
so, the best suggestion is to take it back to the store and get it exchanged
or wait a few more days/weeks until a flashable release becomes available to fix the mistake
I know, I was hasty and now this. Even when there something available to flash, the device isn't being recognized by ODIN. Any troubleshooting help for this?
When I managed to get my Vibrant into that mode I could pull the battery, hold volume up, put the battery in, press and release power (still holding volume up) and it'd kick back into download mode everytime. Once in download mode I could plug the USB in and a running ODIN would see it pop up. If ODIN wasn't running and USB was already plugged in things wouldn't work right.
I haven't tried ODIN on the GS2 yet (I'll wait for a root ). I did find the vibrant nearly impossible to brick though... trust me I unexpectedly tried quite hard.
You might need the newest ODIN for GS2 support, and possibly newer drivers.

I'm a bit new to this, but a custom ROM shouldn't affect your recovery mode. Are you sure you are using the correct buttons and methods to boot recovery?
Might want to make a new thread instead of necroing something from when the phone was 2 days old.
I have GT I9100 and done the same thing and got the same result . stuck at setup connection with odin

Go into device manager when is plugged in and if it says qhd-usb or something like that its a hard brick. What tipped me off was you said it makes two noises when you plug in. that's a tell tell sign your hard bricked

You should try to uninstall then reinstall driver, and try another usb port. In my experience, Odin seems to be picky, it only recognizes your phone if you plug it in the usb port that you used in the first time.

Recovery is accessed by holding both vol + and - while starting the phone. Hold them both while pressing the power button, then release the power button when it vibrates, keep holding the vol buttons till you see the recovery screen.

how can i get odin to read my device if my device is stuck in the screen mentioned and when i enter download mode through usb connecting, takes me to the warning screen!! but when i press volume up it doesnt go into the next step, it goes straight to the same screen that i mentioned. thanks for replying btw, your the only person thats helped me out since i started searching for help.
Did you try the button combo to get into download/odin mode? If so you need to get a usb jig to force it into download mode so you can flash back to stock via odin

Same thing happened to me. Just have Odin open and ready to go, plug phone into DL mode just like normal, when the screen pops up give Odin a second or two and then you should see the com light up yellow as Odin recognise your device. Start the flash and let Odin do it's thing and it will reboot and all will be fine.

Try the second link in the second post. It worked for me. The post with the headline Odin Mode
if your screen has a pc and a warning symbol you still can odin,
open oding and conect your phone to pc while that screen you are saying pops up then see if odin recognizes..

My device is read by Odin and it flashes things. Once I flash a working rom though, it bootloops and I have no recovery to wipe data. I've never been able to get the repartition function to work
And the error I keep receiving every time almost is an error about line 1876. I have no idea what this is. I Googled it and I can't find it.
FWIW My phone would not go into download mode to save my life. I then decided to try the OE Samsung cable instead of the motorola cable I had been using and it worked right away.
Troubleshooting 101, start with the basics.
So I have the same problem as the OP. The only screen I boot to is mobile ! PC in Odin mode. This happened after I was rooted with my stock rom and CWM, but tried to do the OTA update from Kies.
My device is recognized by Odin utility, so I tried what the 2nd poster put and used Odin to flash the stock kernel (UVKID tar) from the PDA button and it failed. I used the default settings in Odin, but maybe I didn't set one right? I have attached a screen shot.
So now do I use Odin to flash the stock recovery? I'm working on making a USB jig in case that will help.
UPDATE: I was able to use Odin to flash the Stock Recovery. Now it boots up like normal. I would like to try the OTA update through Kies again, but I'm worried. Any suggestions?

OK the somewhat hidden Firmware Recovery built into Kies is not to hard to find,
First you will need to write on a piece of paper your S/N and your Model #, the same way it is written under the battery on the sticker.
Second boot your phone into download mode and connect it to the computer.
Third open Kies, select the tools drop down menu.
Now you have a choice. Select Firmware Emergency Recovery to recover your current firmware version... or select Firmware Upgrade and Initialization to install the latest OTA, either way just fallow the steps on screen and when done your will have a working phone.
hit the thanks button if this helped
Bro you should check the dates out xD thx anyway though

So it seems that ODIN can only recognize my phone if the phone is powered on and running but will not recognize it in download mode. I am using the same cables I have used in the past as well as the same computer running Windows 7. Running stock ICS FH13 Unrooted and trying to root but cannot because once I enter download mode, ODIN stops seeing the device. Have tried re installing drivers many times and all USB ports on the computer with different USB cables. Hoping that somebody has a suggestion for getting the phone to be recognized in download mode for me.

Yes debugging is checked.
Some more information. Turns out the phone (originally my friend's) needed to be taken in for service and when he did this he read somewhere about the USB jig to remove the custom binary counter. When he did this he flashed a gingerbread bootloader to use the jig. Only thing is, he didn't ask me for help (I've usually helped him out with this stuff in the past) and I think he flashed an international version of the bootloader. Reason being when I boot the phone it says Samsung Galaxy SII GT-I9100 where it should not have that last part. I remember reading somewhere about this and how it happened to somebody but they had CWM recovery and flashed a special zip. I do not have this option because of the stock recovery and unrooted ROM. Just wondering if there is anything that can be done to reverse this. I can run the phone and use it still but would rather root it and continue the way I have always done with my past phones.

Do u put your phone in download mode then hit volume up then connect to usb?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Yes, I go from full power off with USB unplugged and press and hold the power and vol down keys until I get the warning screen. I then hit vol up to continue and then plug in my phone to the computer.
With further research seems as though I am hosed. In download mode it lists my device as "product name: GT-i9100" where it should say "product name: SPH-D710" Still hoping someone can save me so I'm not stuck on stock but seems as though this device had a international phone's bootloader flashed onto it.

You could get Mobile Odin and flash using that. There's a lite option that will let you flash Agat's kernel and then you can go from there.
I would like to apologize in advance if I posted in the wrong category (I think it's the right category). As the title says I have done a mega wipe with my Samsung Galaxy S3 (SGH-I747) and completely removed the OS along with the System Recovery and everything. It is basically just the phone and nothing inside. When I plug it in the computer, my windows OS makes a sound signaling it detected a device but then nothing happens. I do see a red light turning on my Galaxy S3, I think it says it's charging. Tried accessing the recovery mode, but no luck.... So my question is...is there any way to reflash an OS? Thank you so much XDA!!
If you can get to download mode, you can use Odin to flash a rom. Why would you wipe the recovery partition?
You need some JTAG action.

JTAG repair is done to your phone by an expert with special equipment. You would need to bring your phone to them or ship it off to be fixed. Google '(your city) Jtag repair' . No boot but still having a sound from connecting to PC is a good sign that your bootloader is corrupted.
If the computer makes as noise when you plug it in, try for download mode... Even If the screen of the phone doesn't turn on try to connect and use Odin, sometimes Odin will pick it up...

Hi,
I have been a regular visitor of this website and have gained quite a good amount of knowledge through this forum.
I have been with android for the past 2 years and I have loved the android experience.
2 days ago, I read that there was a feature in android whereas the free apps access the internet frequently and use up precious battery power also the paid apps access the google play store in order to verify licenses. Both these kind of apps wakes up itself regularly and this eats up huge amount of battery.
To counter this I was searching for solutions through this website and found that there was an app which could be downloaded and which can handle such kind of scenario. Lucky Patcher. I didn't read the whole thread but I just went ahead and downloaded that app and my phone stopped working minutes after its installation. Upon reading the whole thread I found out that the android phone needs to be rooted in order for that app to work. BIG MISTAKE!
Now my phone is dead. I can start it but it gets stuck on the Samsung Galaxy S3 logo and never goes ahead.
I took the help of this forum to flash a stock ROM of S3 onto my fone using Odin 3.07 and a stock rom downloaded from samsung dash updates dot com.
This is the name of the folder that was downloaded from the website
"Samsung-Updates.com-SGH-T999V_GLW_1_20120818102113_dgbyab64vd"
I tried flashing it using Odin following the procedure but there was nothing happening on the software or on the phone. I kept the phone attached while Odin was "Initialising" for around 4-5 hours. I slept along that time, and when I woke up, it was still there. I was supposed to get "PASS!" on Odin but I didn't get that. I downloaded the previous versions of the stock ROM and tried that but all in vain.
Phone model: SGH-T999V (Wind Mobile, Canada)
Now I can't find a solution to this problem and this is my last resort. By the weekend I will go to one of those mobile stores which I haven't seen in ages, but will have to go there as I am unable to revive back my fone. And I utterly miss using it.
If there is anything any of you guys can help me with, I will be more than happy to reply to any further information you need.
Thank you all for reading, and thanks a million for even thinking of helping me.
God Bless you all.
-shanxthechashmish
I can't get in recovery mode (Home+volumeUP+Power). it vibrates once but the screen remains blank.
I can get into downloading mode (Home+volumeDown+Power). which gives me two options, one to continue and the other to cancel.
(May be this helps to determine whether my phone has been bricked or not!)
Using ODIN, the following information is given and is stuck at this only...
"<OSM> KIES_HOME_T999VVLDLL1_T999VYVLDLL1_CL616748_REV04_user_low_ship.tar.md5 is valid.
<OSM> Checking MD5 finished Sucessfully..

<ID:0/005> Odin v.3 engine (ID:5)..
<ID:0/005> File analysis..
<ID:0/005> SetupConnection..
<ID:0/005> Initialzation.."
Usually, if you're stuck.during boot you just need to factory reset. Are you sure you're trying the right way to boot recovery? Hold volume up, home and power, when it vibrates, release power but continue holding volume up and home. Some blue text should flash at the top of the screen (you can let go of all buttons now) and it should boot recovery.
No idea why Odin isn't working. Do you have kies installed? If so, get rid of it, reboot and try again.
You could try flashing CWM or TWRP (see my Sig). Then boot recovery and factory reset or flash a Rom.

Sounds like the drivers are missing. Or you need to run ODIN as administrator
I'm with @KAsp3rd, the computer is not seeing the phone, reinstall the USB drivers try again.
Here is a guide I made:
1. Download and install USB Drivers from here: Thanks to @DocHoliday77 for hosting

2. Download and extract ODIN 3.07 from here: Thanks to @DocHoliday77 for hosting

3. Download Stock ROM image (.tar file) from here: Thanks to @DocHoliday77 for hosting
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1949687
4. Save all open files and reboot computer
5. Boot phone into Download mode (also called ODIN mode) by shutting down the phone and holding Volume Down & Home then pressing Power until it vibrates, still holding Volume Down & Home buttons, until the "Yellow Triangle" screen shows up.
6. Plug phone into computer and open ODIN 3.07 and make sure that only "Auto Reboot" and "F. Reset Time" are checked.
7. Click on the "PDA" button (right side about half-way down), browse for ROM .tar file, click "Open" button.
8. Click "Start" button and watch to "Reset" or "Fail" to show in the 1st square (upper left side),
9. Phone will reboot
10. Leave phone alone for 10mins+ to let all of the first time boot stuff complete.
Good luck with it.

yes, I was doing the right way with the boot recovery. There was a blue text when the SAMSUNG logo flashed, but nothing after that. I let go off the power button while holding the power up and home buttons, but nothing went ahead.
I dont have kies installed. My laptop has a fresh win 7 ultimate installation. I got the usb drivers for samung already installed, it detects the phone everytime on one of the COM ports.
I'll go through the flashing CWM and TWRP. you meant your signature, right?

Yes, in my signature. But the others may still be correct. When you connect and open Odin does it show the port number in the top left area? If not then it's probably a driver issue, even if they're installed. Happens a lot believe it or not. Also try other usb ports on the computer.
If you can flash recovery in Odin though, this is all irrelevant of course! Either way let us know what happens.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1949687

Thnaks for this detailed list.
but i know this drill, the only problem being that the phone is not going anywhere after the step where the ODIN has already flashed the file on the phone.
It gets stuck while "Initializing.." I have posted that as an update on my Post.
As KAsp3rd said that I must try running it as an administrator, I might do it tonight and will let you all know what it gave me..
Thanks for all the help..
I think we posted at the same time so did you see my post? Do you remember if Odin had the port number at the top left? In the Odin output it said ID:0, so it may not be seeing the phone.

@DocHoliday77
Yes, it shows the COM port on the top left corner of the ODIN.
I have also uninstalled and reinstalled the driveres several times, but with no effect.. I am thinking the run as administrator is the one thing I havent thought of or tried or seen anywhere on the forum.
I will post the result of that as well by tonight.
And thanks for hosting so many files online. I downloaded the one that was needed for the Stock Firmware.
Ok, and in case you don't know, uninstalling the driver software isn't enough on its own. Go into device manager, right click and either update drivers, or uninstall, then install the new driver package.

Windows, always reboot after uninstalling any drivers.
@DocHoliday77
I tried that thing again. Reinstalled the drivers after uninstalling and rebooting. there is still no response.
I gave it to one of my friends, he tried putting in the recovery file and now the screen says "Installation of the software has been interrupted, please restart to begin"
I'll post the screenshot in the morning now.
Also, @KAsp3rd : I tried running Odin as administrator, but the same thing happened. It used to get stuck at "Initialization"
Any more advices ?

Is it the phone that says installation interrupted? When he tried flashing the recovery did he use odin? Did it seem to flash properly?
Something else I don't thonk hss been mentioned is to try a different usb cable. Preferably one thst came with the phone, or another device. (Some cables sold for recharging are not capable of data transfer on these devices).
Also, try all ports on the computer, and unplug all unnecessary peripherals.
If something happened and you got a bad flash, it could be bricked. Can't remember if you tried KAsp3rd's unbrick method already.
Another thing you can try to get recovery installed is to adb shell into the device and using the dd command, dump recovery to the phone. Youll have to have the android sdk installed to do this though.
Its hard to say what's really needed at this point though. Usually if you can get download mode, you can Odin the stock firmware. Most Odin problems are due to driver and cable issues. (Is Windows fully updated?)
Even though you can get download mode, the debrick method may still help, but I'm just not sure. Maybe I'm missing something.....

I have the original cable with me, the one that came with the s3.
he tried using ODIN, but thats as far as I know. He said something about using Kies to flash the rom as well. not sure what.
No, I didn't try KAsp3rd's unbrick method. Could you please guide me where could I find that?
Also, everything you said after this unbrick method simply doesn't make any sense to me. May be some guided instructions would be helpful.
And yes, the windows is fully updated, no issue on that.
Where can I find the unbrick method?
If you want to just search for android sdk. It'll find Google's page for it and instructions. Should also find some good guides on installing and using. All I'd 've doing is searching for then repeating it back to you, so it'll be easier for both of us if you just go to the source. I think it's developer.Google com or something similar.
And she'll basically connects to your phone and allows you to run commands as if you were using the terminal emulator.
The debrick thread is stickies in development.
