OK I was trying to flash an unlocked kernal via ODIN last night, something went wrong and now phone is stuck on the phone--!--computer screen. I cannot get past this screen. vol+home+power doesn't do anything but loop to the same screen.
It shows ODIN MODE in red at the top of the screen, but ODIn won't recognize the phone, nor will Kies (not running at the same time). Computer makes USB connected/disconnected sound when I plug and unplug the phone.
I have tried One-Click Unbrick, did not recognize that phone was connected.
Help!!

there''s currently nothing to flash this phone
it came out only 2 days ago
DEV are still working on finding root
so, the best suggestion is to take it back to the store and get it exchanged
or wait a few more days/weeks until a flashable release becomes available to fix the mistake
I know, I was hasty and now this. Even when there something available to flash, the device isn't being recognized by ODIN. Any troubleshooting help for this?
When I managed to get my Vibrant into that mode I could pull the battery, hold volume up, put the battery in, press and release power (still holding volume up) and it'd kick back into download mode everytime. Once in download mode I could plug the USB in and a running ODIN would see it pop up. If ODIN wasn't running and USB was already plugged in things wouldn't work right.
I haven't tried ODIN on the GS2 yet (I'll wait for a root ). I did find the vibrant nearly impossible to brick though... trust me I unexpectedly tried quite hard.
You might need the newest ODIN for GS2 support, and possibly newer drivers.

I'm a bit new to this, but a custom ROM shouldn't affect your recovery mode. Are you sure you are using the correct buttons and methods to boot recovery?
Might want to make a new thread instead of necroing something from when the phone was 2 days old.
I have GT I9100 and done the same thing and got the same result . stuck at setup connection with odin

Go into device manager when is plugged in and if it says qhd-usb or something like that its a hard brick. What tipped me off was you said it makes two noises when you plug in. that's a tell tell sign your hard bricked

You should try to uninstall then reinstall driver, and try another usb port. In my experience, Odin seems to be picky, it only recognizes your phone if you plug it in the usb port that you used in the first time.

Recovery is accessed by holding both vol + and - while starting the phone. Hold them both while pressing the power button, then release the power button when it vibrates, keep holding the vol buttons till you see the recovery screen.

Hi XDA,

I've bricked my Galaxy Gio when i flashed a custom kernel. It was the kernel in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1319816

Thanks in Advance.

If not even adb detects it, i'm pretty sure you're buggered, mate.
did you try and leave the battery out for some 10 min or more?
If adb does not detect the phone after that, then it seems to be a brick for real.
Is your phone stop at the "samsung" when you turn on your phone?
If is this,it's very easy to unbrick
One easy procedure which you might want to try with no guarantee it'll work:
-Remove the battery, microSD and SIM from the phone.
-Prepare the Odin software and your ROM on a known working system
-Connect the phone to the computer with the USB cable.
-With one hand, simultaneously hold Volume down, home and power.
-With your other hand, put the battery in the phone.
I was able to get Odin to detect an otherwise bricked phone this way. I was however unable to get further than the "setup connection" step. Maybe your outcome will be better.

Darkshado

Yes this way usually works. I've tested this way.
that worked for me to on a brick when it didnt even went on, no recovery, download mode etc, after waiting 2 weeks and trying to repair it myself I nearly throw it away, and then suddenly it went into download mode for about 1 or 2 seconds, wich told me the battery whasn't working.. so I started to charge the battery, and hoped it would boot, but it didn't.. using that method given above, I could get into download mode again, and flashes a new stock ROM. now I still have my phone, working.

When I finish restore my back up, I reboot my phone and it get brick (JUGG 5.0)!!! I cannot even press any button to turn the screen on!! Already try with different charger, battery and sim card also!! Does someone have any idea please!!
Try the long power button press. Press the power button and hold it for like 10 seconds (Maybe more, it always feels more then 10 seconds). The phone should vibrate 3 times and then you release.
If that doesn't work, then see if you can get into download mode and get Odin to recognize your phone.
I already try, I press it nearly 1 minute, but the screen doesn't turn on!
what exactly are you doing? you were making a backup in cwm, it finished and then you rebooted?
I flash a new Rom, but I don't like it. So I use Darkside Superwipe to wipe all cache and data of that Rom so that I can do the back up. After the back up process is finished,(I see everything runs well). I reboot the phone and it gets brick.

You most likely are hard bricked, but you still have a slight chance to get into download mode. Not sure how you managed a brick by restoring a backup, but I'll try to help.
Ok, you are going to need the drivers for your phone. http://www.mediafire.com/file/6onrjbyd46j4lhj/T-Mobile_t989_GSII_ADB_Drivers.zip
You need odin as well, download it. http://www.mediafire.com/?u868rqz4qn0ta34
These links were provided by KonstantinKeller
Go here http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/ and make an account. I use sammobile because it contains everything in one shot. No need to get radio and crap from other places. After you make an account go to firmware section and type t989 in the search box. download the t989uvkid. ASSUMING YOU HAVE AMERICAN T989
After you have completed the download you are going to need to unzip it with 7zip to extract the tar.
Plug the USB cable into your computer, without plugging it into your phone.
Hold VOL UP + VOL DOWN while plugging in the USB cable to your phone. Stop holding buttons when the ''Warning'' appears.
Press Volume UP and start ODIN (Run as Admin on Vista and 7, just to be safe)
Click PDA and locate the MD5 file you extracted earlier.
WAIT FOR ODIN TO RECOGNIZE YOUR PHONE. THE COM PORT WILL TURN YELLOW AND HAVE A NUMBER
MAKE SURE NOTHING BUT AUTO REBOOT IS CHECKED!!!!!!!
Press 'Start' and be patient. It will take a few minutes because it is a large file.
phone will reboot automatically.
If you can't get the phone to be recognized try different usb ports or a different computer if you have another. This may not work at all, considering it sounds like you are hard bricked. Good luck!

So it seems that ODIN can only recognize my phone if the phone is powered on and running but will not recognize it in download mode. I am using the same cables I have used in the past as well as the same computer running Windows 7. Running stock ICS FH13 Unrooted and trying to root but cannot because once I enter download mode, ODIN stops seeing the device. Have tried re installing drivers many times and all USB ports on the computer with different USB cables. Hoping that somebody has a suggestion for getting the phone to be recognized in download mode for me.

Yes debugging is checked.
Some more information. Turns out the phone (originally my friend's) needed to be taken in for service and when he did this he read somewhere about the USB jig to remove the custom binary counter. When he did this he flashed a gingerbread bootloader to use the jig. Only thing is, he didn't ask me for help (I've usually helped him out with this stuff in the past) and I think he flashed an international version of the bootloader. Reason being when I boot the phone it says Samsung Galaxy SII GT-I9100 where it should not have that last part. I remember reading somewhere about this and how it happened to somebody but they had CWM recovery and flashed a special zip. I do not have this option because of the stock recovery and unrooted ROM. Just wondering if there is anything that can be done to reverse this. I can run the phone and use it still but would rather root it and continue the way I have always done with my past phones.

Yes, I go from full power off with USB unplugged and press and hold the power and vol down keys until I get the warning screen. I then hit vol up to continue and then plug in my phone to the computer.
With further research seems as though I am hosed. In download mode it lists my device as "product name: GT-i9100" where it should say "product name: SPH-D710" Still hoping someone can save me so I'm not stuck on stock but seems as though this device had a international phone's bootloader flashed onto it.

Hey all...and to answer the number one question, yes I did do A TON of searches already to find a solution...PLEASE HELP if you have the knowledge
Phone Model: Galaxy S III (SPH-L710) Sprint 16gb
Firmware/ROM: All stock and never tried ANY customization
Problem: I think the problem happened when the phone auto updated to 4.3. Now when the phone tries to boot it just boots to the second Samsung "Samsung Galaxy S III" screen, reboots and then will get to the same screen and just sits there. One time I even let it sit there for 30 minutes just to see if it needed the ridiculous amount of time. When I try to get the phone into recovery mode (Volume UP/Home key/then the Power key) it will boot and on the first Samsung "Samsung" screen, in the top left corner in small print, it shows "booting recovery...". Then it will just go strait to the second Samsung screen then keeps rebooting twice before it will just stop on the second Samsung screen again. When I try to get the phone into ODIN mode (Volume DOWN/Home key/then the Power key) it will boot asking me if I'm sure and to press Volume UP to continue. Once I press Volume UP, to continue, I get to ODIN mode. In the top left corner it shows...
ODIN MODE
Product Name: SPH-710
Custom Binary Download: No
Current Binary: Samsung Official
System Status: Official
(all grayed out) Qualcomm Secureboot: ENABLE
Then in the middle of the screen is the little Android guy. Below that it shows, "Downloading..." "Do not turn off target!!". And it just sits there doing nothing else.
I'm pretty sure I have done everything I could possible do to get it working again. From what I understand there may be other things I can do. Worse case scenario, if I must, I would be willing to loose everything on the phone and start over from scratch, if that's even possible.
There has to be some VERY smart people on here that can help me. This is my wife's phone and we don't have an upgrade until May...PLEASE HELP. Thanks all!!!

I already downloaded latest versions of both. It states, from phone off and unplugged, start phone using ODIN/download route then immediately plug into PC then open ODIN and click the button....but I cant get that far because ODIN app on PC never recognizes the phone to be able to do so.
I'm now starting to get very discouraged because i'm seeing in some places that the device needs to be put into USB debugging mode. Please tell me this isn't true. Because there has never been any reason to put the phone into USB debug mode.
Can someone please confirm this. I'm really crossing my finger that there is a way to do this without needing to be in USB debug mode...PLS PLS PLS!!!

You have to plug the device in from download mode AFTER Odin is running. So, phone in download mode, start Odin, then plug in. Before you go that far are you letting go of the buttons when trying to get to recovery as soon as you seen 'recovery starting' in the top left corner or are you still holding them? If you do not let go the device will continue to attempt a normal boot. If you can get into recovery and do a factory restore it very well may solve your boot issue.
I'm experiencing issues with my SGH-T989 where it will ONLY boot into ODIN Download mode. Does NOT boot into any other mode. on standard boot it will get to samsung Logo with Loading bar, the loading bar goes to (from what I can tell) 99% and freezes there for a few seconds, then it goes away and the screen blanks. nothing shows. the battery drains if I dont take the battery out I've noticed.
I've tried using Kies, it states that "this device version cannot be updated". I've tried using ODIN and it shows PASS after I've PDA the stock Firmware. I've used ODIN to install a custom recovery, as the phone seemed to not be able to access recovery before. I've tried both CWM and TWRP and neither recovery seems like it wants to work. At this point I'm left without options. I have no idea where to go from here.
Any help at all?
without Access to recovery I can not root or install from SD.
the phone is stock. I wasn't attempting to ROOT or do anything, this just happened out of the blue. put the phone in my pocket and pulled it back out not even 2 minutes later and it wouldnt boot AT ALL for 3 days. now all of a sudden I'm presented with this issue. it will boot but only in ODIN.
How are you trying to get into revovery?
Press power and volume up and down. When it vibrates, let go of power only. As soon as you see recovery splash screen....let go of volumes.
If recovery flashed successfully in Odin, this should work.
Then try a factory reset....and for good measure, wipe cache and dalvik cache as well. Phone hopefully will boot then. If Odin flashing firmware was successful.
yeah, I've tried vol down, vol up, both down + up and plugging into comp. with and without battery. Ive tried every button combination even (i know..) tried to use combinations with the bottom haptic buttons. this phone will not enter recovery. I've reflashed stock reco, cwm, twrp... flashed ICS, GB...
everything says its fine in Odin but the phone is acting as if nothing were changed. in all of the different attempts Ive tried, nothing has changed the behaviour of the phone in one way. it still has two routes; Freeze at bootlogo on standard boot, or boot into Download mode. its not user error as far as I can tell. I've also taken it apart and blew any excess dust or dirt away from the power button, as I have heard this can be caused by a gunked up or sticking power button.
I'm at a loss =\
I'm at a loss then for your next move.
There's apps that can boot into recovery. But you need root. To get root, you need recovery.
To get into phone, you need recovery, to at least try a wipe of the caches.
Something is not right for sure.
Maybe try flashing ICS firmware in Odin....if you can find one. If it boots, you have a phone. But with no recovery access....you're looking at an unrooted life with the phone.
Maybe you can use adb to reboot recovery if it recognizes phone

Yup, lol you feel my confusion and frustration with this. All I want is the phone to work again. it wont boot regardless of what OS i ODIN onto it. i have no idea what could cause this. it didn't overheat, wasn't subject to water or steam, didnt get knocked around.. I simply put the phone in my pocket and pulled it out moments later and it was like this. would purchasing a new motherboard be my best option here? I see some online for 20-30$ but me issue with that is getting a bad IMEI.
What I meant was have you tried adb to force to recovery and factory reset. If you have adb, open platform tools, hold shift and right click mouse, choose open command Window, type "adb reboot recovery" then hit enter

It is showing as Device not found. should I be trying this in ODIN or after the Bootlogo Blackscreen?
You can do it in Odin mode but computer has to adb has to recognize it
Should show a number under devices

May not work if debugging and unknown sources aren't enabled on your phone

Yes, if a USB cable is plugged in, your phone will NOT boot into recovery mode. Odin can be hit and miss. I find Heimdall to be much more reliable with this phone. @Derpwood , pm me and I will send you instructions for flashing stock ICS in Heimdall.

But the issue still remains that the phone wont enter Recovery mode. =\ I've tried with and without USB plugged in. with and without SD cards (tried 3 different cards, 8gb, 32gb, and 64gb) tried all known button combinations to start phone. and it still just freezes after samsung Logo or goes into Download mode (with Vol + and - along with power, plugged into USB). At this point I have a new motherboard in my shopping cart on Ebay and I'm waiting to get paid. but if I can avoid dumping anything more into this phone I'd Love that.

Would JTag from www.mobiletechvideos.com be cheaper? Have you tried USB Jig? Mobile tech videos sells them and you can buy them on EBay for 2 bucks. If you have a soldering iron, you can make one.

I do have a soldering iron. hmm, I'll look into a Jig. would that fix this? I was doing a bit of research on USB Jig's but it was at nearly 4am and I got too tired to remember any info.

Yeah a jig can sometimes be used to force a Samsung phone into Odin/Download mode. Jig is not to be confused with JTAG.

EDIT: never mind, I just realized that your problem was you couldn't boot into recovery, not download mode.
wow, don't see how this could be a hardware problem
with a clean download of stock gb, ics,or even jb ,delete kies, odin as administrator, and a solid cable , i've always got them to boot.

+1 I've gotten them to boot again on the firmware upgrade has encountered an error screen, but I used Linux, JOdin3, and Heimdall. So I would think that Odin would be able to fix this. I have had more luck fixing these things on Linux though. Odin is what cashed the firmware upgrade error screen anyway after it crashed :/

So maybe I'll start from scratch and delete kies again.. hmm.. =\
see everywhere I look, they seem to say this shouldnt be a hardware issue...

Is the screen you get Download Mode or Firmware Upgrade Error screen?
I seem to be having the same problem but mine comes from reflashing stock ics with odin from PA 4.45. I can get to the dL screen but not recovery and everything I flash passes too. But I can't get passed the pulsating Samsung logo after the android load bar.

Flash stock in Odin. Unplug from computer once it reboots. Hold in power and both volume buttons until you feel two vibrations in a row then hold just the volume buttons until it us past the loading bar. You should boot into recovery. Wipe data/factory reset and then do a wipe cache and Dalvik cache. I had the same problem.
