Hello everyone,
few days ago, my sister's almost brand new Desire 816 began taking blurred photos, so I decided to take a closer look to the camera and noticed that thing you can see in the attachment.
I really don't know what happened there, but they do not seem like ordinary scratches. I really don't know how to fix them, and I really don't think this is covered by the HTC warranty.
What should I do know?

i was having same issue few days ago i tried cleaning my lens but it didn't help so the only solution is to buff your camera.. as the body is made up of plastic some amount of carbon comes after a while so all u need is to make it buffed. i don't know from where you get this service in your country. Here in my country there are many shops who use certain compounds or chemicals to buff plastic and make it look like newer , cleaner and scratch free... it does not harm your phone ok search google about buff..... best of luck

Thank you so much for your suggestion. I've had camera phones since 2004 and I've never had such an issue with none of them.
Actually, here in Italy, I really don't now if I can find this kind of shop, but maybe I can do some "do it yourself".

Guys, I´m having a problem for wich the answer is either...
a) I´m the most unlucky guy in the earth.
b) The warranty guys are cheating on me.
or c) This is the poorest built quality on a phone, ever!
Well, problem is that I bought a white R800i a month ago and after a week I noticed that the plastic around the screen glass (on the thinnest part of the plastic around the screen) was cracked on 4 points, one on bottom left, one on bottom right, another on top right and another one on the very right edge of the screen.
So, I sent it to warranty and they said they would give me a brand new one. Once I received it (within 15 days of delay, gotta say), I checked if it didn´t have the problem, and apparently it didn´t. Yesterday I noticed that the small cracks was there, in the EXACT same locations. Maybe it wasn´t appearing because it´s white, so maybe the cracks appeared whith some dust inside them.
So, maybe they are cheating on me, and just hidden the cracks with some kind of white paint or something, don´t know.
Or, maybe the built quality is so bad that it breaks on it´s own. I´m really hopping this is not the case, because I really LOVE this phone! I don´t wan´t to switch to GSII or alikes.
Wow, huge post, sry! Thx for your help!
Could anyone help please? I need to know if this problem is normal, if it happened to someone else. If it´s a common problem, I will need to ask for a refund and buy some other smartphone. Thx!

Hm, really a shame that sony did such a poor job on built quality... Guess I will have to choose another mobile =/
Good day dear xda-developers community,
I have a very strange problem, searching the net did not bring any results so I thought I'd ask the guys here, perhaps somebody has had a similar problem as well.
A couple of months ago my video card broke, I could start up my phone but had a lot of artefacts so I brought it to the store I bought it at and they sent it out for repairs under warranty conditions. I got the phone back and I had no artefacts anymore so I was more than happy.
A couple of days after that I noticed a scratch on the screen, a small one but still quiet noticeable. The phone was never dropped and always carried in the pocket, so I thought to my self "ohh well, I guess this could happen".
Now though, a couple of weeks using the phone I have a strange feeling that the screen that was put on my phone after replacement isn't Gorilla Glass at all, it feels weird when you touch it, not as smooth and there is A LOT of grease that stays on the phone, never really noticed any in a whole year using the phone before, plus the proximity sensor doesn't always work, when I bring the phone to my ear I have to do it a couple of times before it goes out.
Now here's what I am wondering, is there any way to check whether the screen is Gorilla Glass or not, and that the company hasn't just put some cheap replacement glass on my phone to save up money?
Anybody got any idea what's up?
well the easiest thing to do it putting two HOX side by side and compare the two screens i guess
Go back to the shop and demand a detailed repair overview. Your entitled to one since its your phone !
Or let them take it in for another repair/research. Just dont take no for an answer.

I guess we were both duped and had some clone screen put into our phone instead of the original HOX screen, which really sucks, cause I don't even know how to prove that, also I noticed that I have 2 yellow spots on the left-top side of the screen, they are very well visible on the white background and they get even Yellower as the phone gets hotter.

Wauw thats what I had when I just got mine brand new..its a known issue with the One X
It has to do something with the glue..better get it replaced and ask for the old screen so you can check if its a clone.
Hope it will work out well for you bro, I took my loss as they will not give me a refund..

They won't give you a refund, but did you try getting it fixed? is it covered by the warranty? The problem is that I bought it in the netherlands and I was just there a couple of weeks ago, had the phone done and went back to Belarus, where we don't the HTC service centres. I will have to wait till I go to the netherlands again to give the phone back into repairs.

I am trying to find a replacement screen with digitizer
Hi guys,
I have just damaged the screen on my HTC One V, the phone was find and dandy for its day, and I would still be running around with it, if I wasn't concerned that at any point it would implode with a total screen failure. I am currently thinking of getting this phone, and was wondering since you all own it, whether your happy with it, or if you think you should have gotten a different phone?
I;m pretty rough with phones so my main concern is will it stand up to me being a ruffian?
regards to you all

Thanks man, one thing that worries me is the glass front and back, I've seen a lot of iphones with this all smashed, I guess a case is a must. Also I hear a lot of water proof horror stories, but I've read the threads here so am aware. One think I would like to know is how active the development scene is? Are there a lot of developers on board here, and is the community still buzzing? HOV community is gone :'(

this phone has only a few months .. not yet to much developing but it has same specifications like z1 so basicaly almost anything works on z1 compact ..( z1 has active developers)
I don`t have any issue with waterproffing.., i buyed this phone to make pics under water (like pool for exemple) and works great..
and yeah , a good case it`s recomended for this phone, but the aluminium frame it`s very resistant
pewrsonaly i recomended this device for you if you wan a 4.3 inch display.. and it`s not small for you
Sony builds very good quality, durable phones. Aside from the flash bleed I had because of the plastic back (I replaced it with the glass one), it's been a great device thus far. There are some good case options... and those people with shattered I-phones, I would suspect, didn't protect the damn thing.
Mine died of hardware failure, had to be sent for repair 1 month after I bought it.
It's a nice device, but just hope it will never break as Sony's post-sale support is nothing short of appalling. They do not operate the repairs, but rely on a 3rd party in the UK and tracking for mine shows it as pending because the repair centre did not have motherboards in stock so it had to be sourced from abroad. Been in this state for 2 weeks now, and nothing but silence from Sony. Would have appreciated a replacement, like Apple does, but no.. so this is likely the last time I ever buy a Sony.
I've had mine for 3 months and am generally very happy with it. As has been said, it does scratch easily but I did drop it on a tiled floor and a few scratches were the worst of it. It's fast, has an excellent screen, good camera (average in 'Auto' mode) and the waterproofness has been tested successfully !
Battery life was superb but isn't as good with 4.4.2 IMHO - still not bad though. Can get a full day's use and still have 30% left

This was obviously the phone that I really wanted and I totally love it
The perfect "phone" cause I don't consider anything over 4.5" a phone too big for me
You'd better by some screen guard for both front and back, also you could replace the plastic back with a glass one
And waterproof it sure is, as long as it is fresh water and the flaps are properly closed, if used in sea or pool, better wash with clean water later on
Overall a really good phone

The phone performs well but there are some issues, u should be aware of before buying..
Buying sony phones like almost getting lottery.. None knows whatvu will get inside..
1. Some devices are having flash bleed issue
2. There are two dusplay panels, AUO and JDI.. AUO is not as good as JDI
3. Many users are getting touch issues after some days of buying
4. Some members reported water leakage on their device..
But only point 2 and 3 is mostly annoying.. So if these two issues dont bother u, u can buy this phone.. The battery life is really awesome and performance is alsi awesome.. I am happy with this phone.. Just that touch problem making me worried..

See my thread about the touchscreen issues, one of the links in there links to a YouTube video showing the issue:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2770293
Particularly annoying if you use swipe to unlock or swype text as sometimes it can take a few attempts for it to work. If I'd have known about this issue, I'd have waited until it was fixed before buying. Other than that it seems like a good phone, although only had it a week.

Are you sure? Talk online is that a firmware update could fix it. Anyway, the place where I got it from is willing to replace it so hopefully I wont have this issue with the next one. Not holding my breath though as I imagine the replacement will be from the same batch since it's from the same place.

Who is confirming about software update? I must say he does not have enough experience in this regard.. And as I told none knows why this problem happens, this problem can happen again after replacing touch screen.. In my previous micromax, the problem started when I used to plug in and after some days it got worse and the problem started after unplugging too.. Btw I got same problem in my z1c just once when it was plugged in charger..

none, they will repolish your lense out of scratches...
The second thing... that lense scratching is only your fault, not HTC's... it like hitting a car in front of you and blaming your car maker about your driving style...

I agree with you partially. When you pay a huge deal for a premium car, and the manufacturer uses flimsy carbon fiber body, what do you do ? Go back and report. If you were to crash the car made out of a metal, there would be subtle damage. The same doesn't happen with a carbon fiber body. In this case, the manufacturer has to be blamed. Its their fault.
And polishing the lens would further cause additional scratches on it. :good:

Only the lens would be replaced.
Does yours have scratches on the display ?
No lenses won't be replaced. The seconds the material does not matter, you can scratch almost anything, it is cheaper to learn some manners or pick up some protecting cover. Car warranty also is broken on ANY car if you forgot to change oil after certain milage.

I also want to know if HTC acknowledge this lens coating issue and replaces the lens for free (I assume with upgraded version of the coating)
I am wandering if this is general problem with all M8s? I am aware that not all owners are reporting the issue. I think if this is related to heavy usage, ie heavy gaming and thus overheating. Some users are not a gamers and do not use their phones to the extent they start heating so much- hence the coating stays undamaged.
So my question is: are you a heavy user and is your lens scratched?

I'm not a heavy user. I don't game on these huge 4k screens. Well, mine had scratches long ago. I tried my luck out polishing them, but in vain. It further damaged it. The only solution was to get it replaced for no charge. As I've seen, many(most) M8's suffer from the same issue. Many people are ignorant about this issue and might have to visit the service sooner or later. A trip to the service is a must though. Why else get it replaced straight away, instead of HTC back firing you that it was your fault. Just get it replaced before its too late.
By the way, does yours have scratches on the display ? That seems to be a common issue too. :good:
Actually I am still using my One X. But I am seriously considering buying the M8.
Do you know if this problem is applicable to newer batches or it has random occurrence? I could not find anywhere information about HTC addressing this issue.

Even though you get an M8 from the newer batch, it takes me to explain you the fact that these are not made up of diamond. Lets be very clear with that point. I'm using my S3 till date. I know its got blemishes all over, and the camera lens has many tiny scratches; it doesn't bother me since anyways those scratches are small, and they wouldn't be in focus. Never expect the device to stay in mint condition. Once it leaves the factory, things wont be the same. Lol, some have defects when manufactured ! Just enjoy the device ! :good:
M8 lense ? Parts? Same or different for each carrier
I am curious are all lenses the same size for each carrier on the m8 model. I'm finding a sprint one but no at&t.
I asume it shouldn't be a difference

:/ yes me too i think so..cause there is a gap between the metal frame and the screen and thats where dusts is getting in.. thanks bro
Isn't the digitiser fused to the screen to prevnt dust getting underneath? Wouldn't want to go back in time and get dust inside like the Desire and Sensation I had! Certainly never a spec got under my M7.
