Hello all moto 360 users
I am sure this is somewhere on the forums but a normal search did not show it ( and I am happy to take links).
I want to know if there are any efforts to make an App that can act as a bridge for Moto360 on iOS.
Basic functionality would do (like just acting as a bridge for internet).
Side-loading should be an option too
Thanks!!
Why would Google want any integration with iOS? There are already more Android devices out there than iOS so its not like they need iPhone users buying their watches, especially as Apple have their own watch coming out. Even if such an app existed I don't think Apple would allow it onto the Apple Store.
I might be completely wrong, in which case I apologise, but I think you'll find this is a no go. Just get yourself an Android phone, you can get one cheap nowadays

I don't think he was looking for an official app, just a work-around...
I'm pretty sure they got the Gear working to some extent with iPhone, but I haven't seen anything for Android Wear...
He's right, though - you should get an Android phone [emoji106]
Much more fun [emoji12]
Thanks for the reply.
With Microsoft going multi-platform, it would make sense that others may want to steal some market-share way too.
Again, looking for more of a bridge than a tight integration and with Google promoting openness and all, I thought it should be possible to get the Stack and drivers for wear and port it to iOS.
Anyways, I will keep looking.
Take inbox, google now, google maps, they are all over iOS.
Google is ready to make android wear compatible with ios. ..but apple wouldn't let that happen

Simple solution. Throw away that iOS device and pick a real smartphone (i.e., HTC one M8 GPE)

Thanks for all the tips that I didn't ask for
I know I can get a moto, htc, nexus etc and it will work, this I hope is a no-brainer.
What I wanted to see if there are some skilled Android developers out there wanting to hack it to work (again side-load, or jailbreak).
I am well aware that I can just get a google phone to work with the google watches, similar to that Samsung did with with their first Gear and similar to what Apple will do with the watch.
I have some suspicion that the Apple Watch will be made to work with Google android one way or the other so there is little difference (if you consider side-loading).
Thanks.
Android devs are skilled. .no doubt. .but will not waste their time in something which apple will not approve and then file cases against them..

Those of you suggesting to get an android phone are not thinking this through. There are millions of people who use iPhones, and the app marketplace is thriving. Why wouldn't iPhone users want to use Android Wear watches? Using an android tablet for configuration of the watch is inconvenient, but for many would not be a deal breaker. But don't expect iPhone users to carry around an extra phone just so their watch will display notifications.
Google and Microsoft are both spending significant resources to support iPhone users. Displaying iPhone notifications on Android Wear devices seems like a really useful thing to me.
These iOS users will just buy the iWatch !

Then why do you think Android Wear doesn't support iOS?
You're right of course, it would be great for people with iphones who want more choice... I have an iPhone for work, so I wish I could pair both with the 360...
Its possible to pair two devices to the Moto 360.
I have two phones and I successfully connected my Moto 360 with Notifications on my iPhone.

Honestly, that sucks ****. One of the best and outstanding apps for Windows Phone is gonna be pulled from the marketplace. Let me get this straight.. I don't blame the developers (LazywormApps), since they decided to follow the terms of service that apply to Youtube.com. I blame Google for not providing the appropriate API or at least allow the use of workarounds.
It think this is a pretty good reason to show our support, even though I'm currently now sure about how exactly. Maybe turn to Google support, or Microsoft? Or whatever. I'm sure if enough users help, things could change.
Pretty ****ed up :/
I wonder if google will ever release more APIs...
its a real shame

What a lame argument, you can't get the experience you get from MetroTube without an app. Apps are important, those saying otherwise are just lunatics.

Google are the reason they are pulling it:
“Unfortunately, Google has refused to allow Microsoft’s new Windows Phones to access this YouTube metadata in the same way that Android phones and iPhones do. As a result, Microsoft’s YouTube “app” on Windows Phones is basically just a browser displaying YouTube’s mobile Web site, without the rich functionality offered on competing phones. Microsoft is ready to release a high quality YouTube app for Windows Phone. We just need permission to access YouTube in the way that other phones already do, permission Google has refused to provide.”

It's in no a way an argument! However the fact that absence of an app made it so unappealing should definitely be classified as app-centric user who knowing that the OS lacks apps should have bought an android in first place!

If my memory serve me right, they used some undocumented api and some TOC violation to make HD video available to WP7, I didn't keep the source link, maybe someone here can help?

What makes me wonder is the fact that there's a very well working YouTube app for XBox 360. So why is the API officially available for THIS specific Microsoft platform, but not for Windows Phone?
It could just come down to not wanting the competition to have a feature that you use as a major selling point. The Xbox platform doesn't compete with Android, but WP7 does.
With iOS, the contract between YouTube and Apple was established before there was an Android platform (and, I suspect, before the Google acquisition of YouTube was completed). But, since the contract is already in place, I suspect that Google's hands are tied on that front (at least until the terms of the contract expire, if ever).

I have a samsung focus and an HTC flyer. I am amazed to see heavenly lag free browsing, no force closes, tightest social integration, apps managemnt with games going to Xbox category, all photos in one place, office, skydrive, etc etc on my focus. Mango is plain awesome. As for phone, I don't need an android phone after seeing the performance of my flyer vis a vis my focus. Though flyer is not bad in performance, I just wish there were mango tablets available in market. I will definitely go for a mango or tango tablet once it is available in market.
That's why Google is afraid of this new age os.

can anybody try to capture the application? i think that could be the best thing. So in the future we could just deploy this app with a xap deployer.
I have never put much weight behind peoples comments about the Android fragmentation but the Nexus just frustrates me. I have owned everything from an Iphone, WP7 and Android phones and while all have their good and bad points I am starting to see many more bad for Android. I have moved from a GSII to the Nexus mainly because of the new OS and because my provider offered it to me for free on my plan. The three main apps I used on my GSII do not work with the Nexus. One doesnt even show up in the Market and if sideloaded just crashes the other two while they install from the Market they just crash constantly. The removal of features like facebook integration all just make me wonder what Google is thinking. This is just the OS not to mention other flaws with the phone like the volume being so low you have to install an app to hear it ring and the battery life being poor.
I know there will be a lot of people who say that I should root or mod or install this or that but it just proves my point. Apple and Wp7 just wor fork the most part and despite their limitations usually work well. The Lumia series of WP7 handsets get released in a few weeks in Australia and I think I will be going back to WP7 the three apps I use daily are now available for it, it has awesome facebook integration and it looks sexy too. Everything I need or want in a phone right now.
Sorry Google but you have lost me for the time being. I may be back but for the time being I think I will be happier elsewhere.
The Nexus-series devices are geared towards developers, hackers, and other enthusiasts who not only don't mind mucking about with adb but actually prefer it. Not wanting to "root or mod or install this or that" doesn't prove your point - it proves that you bought the wrong device.
The GSII is marketed towards normal consumers. Google stripped out Facebook sync on the Nexus device - that's because of a beef between Google and Facebook. Samsung (I believe) leaves it in on the GSII. Because they are less concerned about being "pure Android" and more concerned with selling a solid product that consumers will like to use.
It's not Android's fault that some developers haven't updated their apps to be compatible with the latest version of Android and the latest hardware specs. Contact the developers of those apps that you can't live without and see what it would take for them to make the app compatible. If they don't know there's a demand for it, they may not bother updating it.
If that's not good enough, I'm sorry. Maybe Android isn't the right fit for you. *shrug* It sure is for me.

It really sounds like the OP bought the wrong phone for themselves. See if you can return it.

The Nexus I got from my phone provider to be used as my primary phone. It wasnt sold as a developers device or for hacking. Its a consumer device sold to the consumer market. You may buy it for the sole purpose of modding or hacking it but that not what Google sells or markets it as.
Why do I have to have a pretty common feature removed because of a beef between two companies. This was googles descision (probably to boost their google+ service) and it only hurts the end user. Your right no other phones have had it removed.
And your last comment is exacty what I was saying. People who bought an app on an Iphone 3 can still use the app on a 4S and so far the same with WP7. Its a pain that every time an update comes out for Android that it may "break" an app I use.
I absolutely love my Galaxy Nexus. I just loaded on AOSP Kang Milestone 3 and it has literally every feature I had wanted since I bought the phone. I get great battery life, and the UI is so efficient. I wish there was a better camera, and I could go for a 3300mAh battery like the Droid Maxx, but it's still ****ing AMAZING the way it is.

So, you think that when Apple releases updates for iOS that it doesn't break stuff? The only difference is that developers sometimes get a longer period with the SDK for the new OS to try and fix issues compared to Android, but you really are naive if you think iOS or WP7 won't have broken apps when a new version is released.
Never have I had an app not work after an update with IOS. If thats due to the SDK being out longer then Apple is doing something right that Android isnt. I am not saying that Android isnt without merrit or that it isnt good for everyone but you must adit to the flaws. Look at the number of posts about app compatibility.

And who is to blame for app incompatibility? Is Google supposed to stop developing the operating system why every **** and Jane with an application updates their apps to work? It's not Google's fault that developers and companies don't update their applications. You are also looking at probably one of the biggest changes in the Android OS since it started with Honeycomb/ICS, so some things have to be completely re-written which takes time.
There may be flaws with the platform, but there are flaws with everthing. At least with Android, then end user can fix them if they want to, good luck doing that on BB, WP7, or iOS. Also, just because you haven't had an issue with iOS doesn't mean there aren't problems with apps. Then again, I guess it doesn't take much to get your phone to play a fart sound...

1. The Nexus is a developer tool.
2.Why would Google not want to boost their own products such as Google+? I'm sure if I had a beef with a certain person or company I wouldn't support their product either. Would you?
3. You're right about the iPhone apps. As long as the developer updates to optimize performance with the new iOS. That's a lot of the problems with the apps I used on my Captivate vs. using on my GNex.
If I recall correctly, the reasons Google gave for dropping Facebook support were more about Google's fundamental philosophy regarding the open and free exchange of information. Google lets your bring your information to their service, and you can then take your information away and put it elsewhere. Google was fine with you sharing information from your Google account to your Facebook account. Facebook is more one way - you can bring your information and contacts in, but you can't take that information anywhere else. You could import your information from Google into Facebook, but Facebook will not allow you to export Facebook information to Google. This is the reason Google stopped supporting facebook sync.
its amazing how defensive people get when you give opinion or coment about fault with something they own.
Fact remains (no matter what the reason) Google removed the facebook feature which only hurts the end user. If Apple or anyone else did this you would be all up in arms saying how much better Android is for being so open. HAHA
No matter how you look at it there is compatiblity issues between versions of Android which there arent any (apparently) to IOS or WP7 users. Example... Plants Vs Zombies. I have owned it on al three platforms and on IOS or WP7 I have never had an issue with it working as it should. On my Android phones its breaks between versions. On my Incredible S the zombies would walk off the screen on centain versions. It doesnt run at all on my Galaxy Nexus.
I accept that the average XDA user can fix his or her own issues with ANdroid but the users here are a VERY VERY small percentage of users and for the average user Android isnt as user friendly or stable as the other two.
Since you chose the ignore the same thing on iOS, and also the fact wp7 hasnt seen a major version update.
Go back to those devices, bye
Erm... thanks for your opinion, we're all entitled to one. Stick with your iPhone or WP7 device then mate.
Morale of the story here is that providers will try to sell you what they 'think' you need without asking you.
They don't always listen when they do ask and they certainly don't get it right 100% of the time.
Xda Premium on GSM Galaxy Nexus
I agree with pretty much all the comments made here about android.
This is the biggest change android has made to its OS since its birth so certain 3rd party apps will be broken until the developer of the app pulls his finger out and makes it comaptible again. This isnt googles fault.
I dont agree with the statement of the nexus being a developer phone however.
If it was a developer phone and google wanted you to root it and flash custom roms it wouldnt break your warrenty would it.
I had a galaxy s before my galaxy nexus and i flashed literally hundreds of roms onto that phone and OC it and all the rest... Thats not because thats what samsung wanted me to do.
Google have reinvented android and tried to make it consumer friendly.
There isnt a label on the galaxy nexus for the average user that says dont buy this phone unless you plan on flashing custom kernels and roms onto it.
The galaxy nexus is an amazing phone and i personally plan on leaving it stock as long as i can because i really dont think theres too much that needs doing to it that warrants voiding my warranty and risking bricks etc.
Back to the point... Yes if you dont like the phone then dont cry about it, just sell it and buy a windows phone. Why come here complaining? What do you hope to gain?
Maybe you should have tested the phone and done some research before you upgraded.
The Facebook problem is entirely Facebook's fault.
Android provides an API to synchronize contacts. 3rd party apps can add metadata to those contacts (picture, phone number, email, status updates, etc...). These metadata are then available on your phone.
But Facebook thinks they own your data so instead of using the proper API, they do it in a way to prevent you from exporting that data. For example they don't want you to be able to have a list of your friend's emails or phone numbers through Facebook.
Remember the first time you used Facebook? There were options to find friends using a contact list (CSV, email provider, MSN, GMail contacts, etc...). This is exactly what Facebook wants to block from the competition and one of that platform is Android.
There's a reason the Facebook app on the market has 3.5 stars only. It's rarely updated, slow and full of bugs. And they don't seem to listen to users. All they do is copy others because they are paranoid about ending up like MySpace. Their latest copycat is "Facebook Messenger" which puts an icon right next to Google+ messenger with the name "Messenger" as well.
So instead of blaming Google who removed the "backdoor" Facebook used (adding fields to the contacts database directly and causing a mess if you removed the Facebook app then) write a complaint to Facebook. They'll happily ignore you because they don't care about what their users wants.

Google shouldn't be responsible for your screw ups regardless. If they did warranty hard bricks and other software errors, they'd be out of a lot of money. As you still see today, there are several people on here that brick their phone(or at least think they did) because they can't read ahead of time. Now why should Google be liable for that?

Hi all.
My wife updated her piece of fruit and it rocked her world....
I think or guess that google/samsung/sony are gonna sue apple!
Proudly my wife showed me the gallerie app....welll i said whats that, that looks familiar :s .
Its a knock off of the new xperia phones! Even the location based maps thingy is the same as android and xperia.
So my wife was bummed that i said i had that over 2years ago! She wanna sow it of to me
Taskmanager......
That really pisses me off apple is suiing samsung like a drunken monkey trying to impregnate a giraffe that some sh*t looks the same and its apples idea, well i popped the taskmanager open and voilla, another android nock off.
Camera......
Like xperia phones there is a option to enable filters like negative and sepia ect ect where you can see all the filters in realtime all at once next to eachoter.....aaaanndd guess what?!? BAM! The same!
I didnt look any further but i think there is much more that is to close to self develop and just copied
I think if google/sony/samsung are going to do a joint venture against apple i think they really have a case
So what you guys think of it if you have seen it?

And they've been comparing it to Android showing it'd a complete knock off. Then again this is cooks way of using Jobs version of 'We're very proud about stealing ideas' but what makes me want to burn the company to the ground is when their moron of a spokesperson goes and says in the first minute with a bloody white background 'Apple had been trying to innovative,_______ the first of its kind.' The task manager is more of a rip off of webOS than android. I remember when iOS got the notification drawer. I thought that was very Android-like. I've never liked Apple or their products. I hate that Apple seems to be pushing the 5C more than the 5S right now. The 5C is the only commercial I have seen on TV so far. Thats messed up for people who dont follow this stuff. Most people are probably thinking that thats the new upgrade to their iPhone 5 which, in reality, is the same exact phone with a cheaper casing. I dont even know why Apple is advertising that thing. iOS 7 is nothing special. Just a redesigned OS that does the same stuff. But I guess you cant really do all that much when your OS is nothing but icons on a background. But whatever, I will never own an Apple product. Rant over. lol
Android is open source, ios 7 is not,
from my point, i prefer android, it will be cheap if you get a android tablet.
IOS7 is really nice. That saying, Android has copied many things from iOS whether you believe it or not. It is now going the other way around. Apple has really integrated and optimized everything though.

thats true, but iOS is still a limited os in every aspect..android with the nexus google experience, and not the crap samsung series, it's only getting better and better over years
Let Apple copy everything, it won't make much difference if they don't have comparable hardware and get rid of iTunes crapware.
Also having Apple around is better for Android since that means we'll just benefitting by getting better/sooner updates/improvements.
They're advertising the 5c because higher profit margins. Its the phone that will go head to head with android in developing countries markets I.e. India and China.

They're advertising the 5c because higher profit margins. Its the phone that will go head to head with android in developing countries markets I.e. India and China.

The iPhone 5c is still $749 in Australia yet only $99 in the US, I don't see why they call it a budget iPhone lol.

You may as well get the iPhone 5s if crapple are only offering the iPhone 5c cheap to US customers, anyway I have iOS 7 on my iPad Mini an its garbage, android looks like its been brought back from 10 years ahead into the future an created by a super intellegent alien race when compared to boring old iOS 7 of today made by a bunch of primate's.
Also the new iTunes radio feature is only available to US users of crapple, when apple says iOS 7 brings over 200 new features you know they mean 200 more bugfixes an jailbreak proof.
The only apps worth having an that I use on my iPad Mini are actually made by google an I would gladly trade my iPad for a Samsung galaxy tab any day of the week .
iOS is gay. And this is coming from a dude who likes dudes.
I really do hope ios7+ improves the iPhone. This will push Android and other mobile OS's to improve. Notice how Android devices improved drastically since the iPhone 4. Not that Android is getting stale. No matter android or iOS is not going anywhere anytime soon.
On a side note it is frustrating to an extent how much Apple borrowed from android but what ever it's about time they did something. God forbid they they invest money in improving their product rather than sue competition. Which definitely considering Samsung's success.
I know I am not the only one who wants iOS notifications on the Moto360. Notifications were made capable with jailbroken iPhones onto the Galaxy Gear via "CloudNotifier" so with reasonable effort, a port to Android Wear platform should absolutely be possible.
The Moto360 is an incredibly sexy piece of hardware. I would absolutely pay for a jailbreak tweak that enabled this functionality. I'm surprised that this hasn't happened yet for the first two AW watches.
Anybody know anything about development of this?

Actually, you can already set some recipes involving iOS and Android Wear using IFTTT (dot com, dashboard, and then you explore the channels available)

Hi,
I always had android phones (galaxy's, notes & nexuses) but it always seemed like the iOS ecosystem was better, software wise.
From the outside it seems that they are getting better apps, faster updates (even to big apps) and of course they have the iMessage that all of my friends from the US uses and is a huge part of why I want to swich. (I'm from europe).
What do you guys think? Should I jump ship once and see how it is?
If thats what you want

I actually like many people used iPhones but here I am.
Do you really think on a board like XDA, in the Pixel XL forum you are going to get everybody telling you how great iPhone is?

Truly. This is an android enthusiast forum. If you want an iphone, go get one. Don't expect that recommendation from anyone here, though.
I think that there could be good points for both sides. it's no different then pixel vs any other flagship.
Yeah, no, it's very different. IOS vs Android, not Android vs Android. This being an android specific forum, you're not likely to find much in the way of love for the iphone 7 here.
I think it is always weird to have iOS vs android discussions in a specific phone's forum. That seems like a more general topic better discussed elsewhere.
This forum us for talking about this phone...

Lack of a back button is reason alone to stay on Android!
I know and understand your frustrations with Android. I've been an avid android fan since the OG Droid came out. What a phone and I loved it. Pure simple and open Motorola did a great job with that phone. Fragmentation ruined that phone and most every android phone since. The thing I hated apple for was the reason andtroid was so frustrating. To this day I get sick of looking at my wifes Iphone, it looks almost exactly the same as the original Iphone, if she puts wallpaper or a photo on her phone its just covered up by the icons that apple stick there and thats annoying to me anyway. Customizing your Iphone without jailbreaking lol... even the name lets you know how they feel about messing with their phone. Let's see Android is rooting Apple is jailbreaking even in a simple adjective they let you know don't touch fall in line with everyone and like it! I really domn't like the concept of Apple sorry, it's my phone I paid for it I should be able to do whatever I want as long as I'm not intruding on the rights of others and I'm sorry I do't see how customizing my phone would bother anyone. What they did and still do have right is they control the quality of the products in their app store and Andropid has dropped the ball on that one since the beginning. looking back they were trying for numbers not quality to compete and it has cost them. The quality of apps on the iphone is better and in saying that Android is catching up. These are basically the same apps written for different platforms. Ive seen it with my wifes phone for years I get so many more force closings amnd associated other problems than she does and I can hear her frustrations when using my phone. Like I said Android has been getting better and it's a heck of alot easier writing programs for one platform and one manufacturer. This is Androids problem each manufacturer has made alterations to Android AKA skins along with constant updates its tough on developers. The whole reason for Nexus was to give the developers a heads up and a chance to work with a pure version of android. I always loved the Nexus program and found that I personally had much fewer problems than my friends that had HTC, Samsung LG etc..... These manufacturers were never held accountable for upgrading on a timely fashion and neither were the providers aka verizon AT&T etc... this is why we are in the mess we are. I think and hope google has finally said enough! They have designed and engineered a top of the line flagship, one that is not outdated before the first box arrives. This phone is one people should be proud of it's fast and smooth its as close to pure android as possible oh I know Verizon put a few apps on it but they can be removed and give mne a break that's no big deal. It's a top quality phone that can stand up to the Iphone. Believe me if you know anyone that has drank the KoolAide and my wife has it certainly isn't going to change their minds and expecting that is not realistic. Google has given the developers a phone and a platform to work with and lets see how much of a difference this makes. I for one am hoping it makes as big a difference as Google thinks it will. I think incorporating with VR and home is swinging for the fences and I hope it's a home run.

I used an iPhone a number of years ago, jail broke it used Cydia the whole nine yards, once I started using Android devices I have NEVER looked back. In my position I get to try out different phones and some of the people at my company use iPhones. I have taken them home for weekend test drives just to see if I'm missing anything and after a day or so I find myself putting the SIM back in my current android device. I can't speak for you or what may be most important to you but for me I would not go back to ios.
yeah apple do a good job with software/hardware integration, but then it's to be expected with a heavily locked down device, it's the same reason they get updates first they are simpler to make stuff for.
but for me I've just always found Android way more flexible and I would rather have that flexibility. end of the day it all comes down to personal choice.
