How to stop updates - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My Verizon LG G3 is rooted and has unlocked bootloader without a custom rom and recently got a update for a camera button I belive. Can I stop this update? And if not will it break my root if I goes through and I can't stop it. I know that of it does there's a strong possibility that I won't be able to root anymore.

Sent from my Stump'd & Bump'd Sprint LG G3

What I use on my vzw g3 is titanium backup, and froze the thing called "System updates 1_13_10_0". Best I can tell that completely stops getting any ota pushed to the phone.

[Q] Sprint update ZV7_to_ZV8_EMR1_inc

Hi folks. Just got the Optimus G for my Sprint plan. I immediately rooted the phone, and within 24 hours of getting it it now wants to apply an update ZV7_to_ZV8_EMR1_inc. I'm afraid to do so because I don't want to end up with the phone unrooted and locked down (I will never again buy an unrootable phone). Has anyone else done this update, and if so did it affect your root status or ability to re-root afterwards? Thanks!

You should be fine. Its just bug fixes. If not, I can tell you how to roll back.

I installed the update and then rooted my phone without issues.
I was curious too. Here's the response from other members

Update applied & unrooted, re-rooted ok
Thanks all for the replies and sorry for the duplicate thread, I promise I did look first before posting and didn't see it. Anyway as the other thread stated, the update removed root access but I was able to re-root fine.

Help

Hi ! I have a rooted LG G3 and I just got notifcation that I got a software update. What will happen if I update my software? Will it break my root?
It will. In my experience, I had to uninstall xposed framework first (within the app). Then it went smoothly throughout the update process. After the update, just need to root it again. Some app may not work well after this such as adfree. Then just need to run the app and redo the settings.

Unroot using super su in order to get lollipop OTA

Hi there,
I was wondering if i can simply use the super su apps "full unroot" option in the settings to unroot my D850 so I can receive the OTA lollipop update? I have been stock this whole time, and just rooted in order to remove some apps and to use greenify. I have never flashed a rom or flashed a recovery. I did a few tweaks such as volume mods and added xcam for the lg g3. Please let me know if this is an option, i believe i rooted using purpledrake one click method a long time ago.

Hi! I'm in South Korea and I didn't receive the Lollipop update OTA.... I connected my phone to LG PC Suite and the phone updated from there.. and I didn't have to unroot. Have you tried connecting your phone to LG PC Suite and update from there? Good luck
When on KitKat .. OTA updates always gave me that message of rooting suspected even though I used SU to fully un-root..
IMO.. Lollipop sucks.. I was on Lollipop for a few days and went back to KK after a few days..LOL.. I'd suggest wait for root on Lollipop and then update...There's no root yet for Lollipop..

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately I am using Mac and I think the pc suite is different from the windows version. Guess I will have to wait and borrow someone's pc and try updating through that. Thanks!

The only option is reverting to Lollipop. Yes, it sucks and LG have lost me as a customer after this phone.
Your only other option is to buy another phone and sell that one off. I've contacted LG just recently (few days ago actually) and they informed there was no plans to allow for bootloader unlocks of any other variants of the G4 in the distant future.
I explained carefully to them how much they thoroughly pissed me off, and how detrimental that would be for their company in the long run.
Samsung or Nexus will be my next phone, waiting to see what the next Nexus will be
Thx for the reply.. If I revert back to lollipop and root.. Will I be able to flash a custom Rom with the flashify app?

I think at one point there was ramblings about being able to do this, but the chances of it screwing up were very high.
I wouldn't, personally. I'd just stick with flashing a rooted system partition and debloat the stock LG crap away.
Honestly, I'd be using my Oneplus One as my daily if the camera was anywhere near as good as the G4.. So over OEM's
Personally I'm not even bothering with rooting. On stock Marshmallow. Just debloated using this

LG G3 D850 Resurrection

My Samsung GN 4 died and I resurrected my LG G3. I did a hard rest and it update to 6.0. I am on ATT. I was contemplating putting on Fulmics rom but am having a difficult time rooting. I used Quick Root and there was no root available for my device. I downloaded Kingroot which seemed to work until I rebooted. I tried to find Autorec for MM d850 and couldn't seem to. I guess I'm asking is this device not rootable? I tried an adb flash and couldn't complete the root process. I have rooted for years. Samsung's is locked down and you can't root on the GN 4. I wondered if this was the same deal?

You need to downgrade to KitKat first by flashing the tot image for it. Afterwards, you should be and to root and install TWRP.
Thank you. I was wondering about that. Not a lot of activity in this phone anymore from users. People seem to have moved on.

No problem. A lot of the g3 discussion, including d850 has moved to the main g3 section. You might check over there.
